My track pad acts as if it is permanently being clicked.

My track pad on the left side is acting as if it is being clicked. It wasn't pressed down on or anything and you can't see a depression where it's being pressed down.

.... This question is not answered. "Helpful" answers available: 2 . "Solved" answers available: 1 .
How do I find these 'Helpful' or 'Solved' answers? It says there are no replies to this topic and Search doesn't turn them up (or turns up too many topics to sift through!).
This is the easy bit. When looking at the questions you've posted you'll find buttons above each response, one reads something like *Mark as Helpful* & one *Marked as Solution*. If you think a response is helpful to you you can mark it as helpful. If it provides the solution mark it as such. With each question you can mark just one response as the solution and up to two as helpful. When you look at a question that says *This question is not answered. "Helpful" answers available: 2 . "Solved" answers available: 1.* it means that nobody has so far offered any helpful advice to the original poster and, for those who care about such things, that points are still availible for helping out.
Nothing obvious comes to mind regarding the main problem. Do you shut down Windows when iTunes is still open? You might be interuppting the housekeeping it does when it shuts down.

To be specific. I have the imac late 2013 model, and i just bought the trackpad this October 2014. I have been using magic mouse without any problem. I just want to have a new experience with the trackpad.  Any time i on my imac, i will have a normal screen with my picture and a guest column at the center. I need to click either my picture or the guest in order to have the space where i can key in my password with the keyboard. But unfortunately, my trackpad will show that it is connected and the cursor will be moving in front of the screen if i touch the trackpad, but if i try to click, i will get no response. I have to put back batteries inside my magic mouse and then click on my picture if i want to log in with my id or i click on the guest image if i want to log in as a guest. it is only after this that my trackpad will start responding.
i want to use only trackpad for now so as to be more efficient with it. I don't want to be putting back batteries inside the magic mouse only to on my imac. I need a solution please.
    Thanks.

It sounds like you have assigned the primary click on the trackpad to something else, perhaps a gesture.
Use your mouse, login and then open the Trackpad preference pane and see how you have the interface configured.
Oh and you can have both the Magic Mouse and Magic Trackpad powered up and working at the same time. No need to keep moving batteries around.

    khryzpher,
your model MacBook Pro’s Apple Hardware Test comes on one of those two grey installation DVDs; it’s an essential tool for troubleshooting. You’re going to need to contact Apple directly to purchase a replacement pair for your MacBook Pro; be sure to have its serial number handy.
Your model MacBook Pro didn’t originally come with Snow Leopard installed at the factory. If you don’t have the white retail Snow Leopard DVD, then I’d also recommend that you purchase that, in case your hard drive fails and you’d like to install Snow Leopard onto its replacement.

  • After Yosemite Track pad moves the cursor but will NOT allow Click

Track pad moves the cursor but will NOT allow click after a period of usage. After Forced reboot track pad works fine for a few hours. This started within hours of installing Yosemite. Help, I am afraid I will lose a document during reboot. So far I have been lucky and have not lost data.
MacBook Pro (17-inch, Early 2011)  SSD

Could be many things, we should start with this...
    If 10.7.0 or later...
Bootup holding CMD+r, or the Option/alt key to boot from the Restore partition & use Disk Utility from there to Repair the Disk, then Repair Permissions.
    Any change on reboot?

    Greetings ascnephew8,
It seems your trackpad isn't working as you expect it to. Have you reviewed the trackpad settings in System Preferences? The following article provides trackpad setting details which may help:

  • Track pad extremely sensitive in drag and drop and clicking

Please help with a pad that's driving me nutz! Over sensitive in underlining, drag and drop and clicking. Is there any way to control sensitivity or do I have to take it to the Apple Store?

  • Help:  My track pad sometimes doesn't work.

I was on a plane, and a diet soda exploded on me.  A little bit got on my MBP.  Nothing got on the keyboard at all, but some did get on the trackpad.  I wiped it up as soon as I could, but after that the track pad acted real funky.  I shut it down, and booted it up about 3 hours later, and sometimes the track pad would work just fine, and then other times it would go crazy, not be responsive, and navigate all kinds of places whenever I touched it a little bit.
I shut the laptop down for a day, and came back to it, and it is still incredibly inconsistent.  Help.

You need to take it into your local Apple Store and just pay for the repair. Spills are not covered under your warranty and there are liquid contact indicators in your MBP which will let Apple know that you had a spill.
    Sorry,
    Clinton

  • Track pad not sensitive enough

My Macbook alum has been working well for the last year or two. Within the last couple months, the track pad has become increasingly less sensitive...clicking on it does not always invoke a selection as intended even when a clear click sound is heard. I find i need to click much harder than standard use to get it to respond.
I checked the control panel and played around with the settings several times with no improvement.
    Thoughts?
    Thanks in advance!

I had the same problem, clicking with the track pad became unbearably bad, it wasn't sensitive at all.
I found that if you take off the bottom and remove the battery on the track pad there is a screw, its a triangle shape.
Tightening that screw raised the trackpad (slightly, don't over do it) and by tightening that screw the trackpad's clicking came back to normal.
Free fix, worth a shot. Don't strip the screw though...

  • The single tap on our track pads works sporadically

Our track pad arrow works fine. When I single click, the function does not work.  It seems to not to have a pattern. Need help trouble shooting.

Hi we had also a big issue with SSO and domains. Our Portal was in domain <portalservername>.a.b.c and our BW System in <bwservername>.a.b.c
So we thought SSO should work. But the portal had an alias name enterprise.portal.b.c (which was actually used to access the portal via the Internet Explorer)
    And that was the problem.
The Ticket will be created for portal.b.c and the Session Ticket will only be send to Servers in portal.b.c Domains. Our BW System is in a.b.c so the Session Ticket was not sent.
We solved the problem (with help of SAP) by adding a system Alias for the BW System named <bwservername>.portal.b.c
    And now SSO was working.
So not the Domain the system is in is important but the url in your browser window is important.
I dont know if this help you in any way but because i wanted it to share anyway.
    Best regards,
    Kai

  • The button on my track pad keeps acting like it's pressed down.

I just noticed that the button for my track pad on my '08 MacBook Pro is acting like I'm pressing it down when I'm not even touching it.  I've tried to reset the track pad and restart my computer but it's not fixed the problem. I'm not exactly tech savvy so any detailed help would be welcomed.

If the trackpad surface does not move down when pressed, the battery may have swollen and is pressing on the bottom of the trackpad.  The battery may explode or catch fire.   Take it to an Apple store for inspection.

  • Cursor and the track pad are acting erratically.

I have a 13" MacBook Pro (mid 2012).  Currently have Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5 (11G63) install. My cursor and the track pad are acting erratically.  Any suggestions.  Google wasn't a great help.

    Replace your MacBook's battery ASAP.

  • Problems with track pad and osx installation disc on macbok.

Okay so I am having two separate problems with my macbook.
First, the track pad, or the button beneath it, is pretty much completely out of commission. When I try and use it, the computer acts as if I am holding down the button all the time. Example, when I drag it across the desktop, the "click-and-drag" square starts appearing next to the cursor or when move the cursor on an icon, it tries to click and drag that. The only way that I can fix it thus far is to hook up my wireless mouse. Hoping someone else has a better solution so that I can continue to use the notebook on the go without having to bring the mouse. Note: the button does not appear to be depressed in anyway.
Second problem is happening when I attempt to reboot the computer with the OS X Leopard disk in for a re-installation. When the gray start-up screen appears, before the gray apple comes on the middle of the screen, a folder icon with a question mark on it appears for a split second and then turns into the normal apple icon after which my OSX disk is spit out of the drive and the computer boots straight to the desktop. I have attempted holding down the control button, the option button, and starting the process while the computer is still turned on and then just restarting it, the disc is ejected upon restart every time. I have reinstalled the OS with this disk once before and it has worked fine and other disks seem to be working fine in the drive, so I am at a lost here.
I know that was a lot of info but if anyone out there can help me out with either one of these problems it would be much appreciated.
    Thanks.

exactly the same issu with the track pad here.
I v tried to use it without the battery but the problem persist.
If I use an USB mouse i can move it arnd but wen I click or double click nothing happen...so is useless.Same problem with the Blur Tooth wireless mouse.
The issue appear several months ago...after a couple of weeks went away, and now is back again. I try the routine manteinance but nothing solved the issue.
Any suggestion? I have some urgent work to do ...I will try tomorrow to bring it in an apple store but I can't leave it with them ..
    Thanx in advance
