My USB connected iP7200 printer repeatedly disappears from networked computers.

If relevant, the printer is installed on a Win7 32-bit, and the networked computers are Win7, (one is 32-bit, the other 64-bit). The driver on these networked computers are picked up from the computer with the printer attached by USB, and I have to refind the drivers almost daily. Any suggestions please?
Matt

When you set up the print on the XP computer did you do the following?
1) Add a printer
2) Add a local printer
3) Create a NEW Port in the add printer wizard from the control panel
4) select LOCAL port
5) enter the network name (Win7 computer ie. \\win7computername\printerid)

reboot the router (and the printer).
If still happening, check your router settings.  Is it set so that the lease on the printer IP expires?
The pad has to see the printer as active, and on the same wifi network as the pad.
You might also want to see if there is a firmware update for the printer available.

  • Forefront disappearing from Lab computers

I'm an administrator for Gonzaga University School of Business computer labs. We have had Microsoft Forefront installed on our Windows 7 Enterprise lab machines for several years. We have just noticed that Forefront is disappearing from random
computers. Not just one or two but upwards of 100 computers.
    The symptoms are:
The Forefront icon is missing from the systray.
The program icons are missing from the Program menu.
If I do a search from the Start button, I find an unresolved icon for Forefront. Clicking on it tells me there is no program associated with it.
In the Programs And Features program list, there is an unresolved icon.  Clicking on it to do an uninstall produces a message to the effect that the program has already been uninstalled, and do I want to remove the icon from the list.
I'm wondering if you know of any legitimate events that could cause this to happen.
    Thanks,
    Rob Joyce

That kind of sounds like the behavior of a malware infection that is preventing Endpoint Protection from running...
    Check HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run in the registry
Has the MSC property been altered? It should be
    "c:\Program Files\Microsoft Security Client\msseces.exe" -hide -runkey
I've seen cases before where this is altered to something like mssecesx.exe so the EP interface can't launch.
I may be off track in this case, but I've seen this before on systems infected with the Sirefef/ZeroAccess malware. It's worth checking anyway.

  • How to Connect a USB-to-Wireless printer to a Wireless Network without a PC

Some printers from HP do not have a Wireless Setup Wizard built into the front panel for connecting to a network.  These models install to a computer through a USB connection and the software then sends the wireless information across the USB cable to the printer.  However, you may not always have a computer present and still need to connect these printers to a wireless network.  You can use a wireless device, such as an iPad, to do this.  For the example below I have used an iPad and a Deskjet 3510 series printer.
The first step is to make sure your printer is broadcasting a network (Ad-Hoc).  To do this, turn the printer on and press the wireless button or turn wireless off, then on in the Setup menu. Connect the iPad (or other wireless device) to the wireless signal being broadcast by the printer.
Once the iPad is connected to the printer as a network connection, open the Web Browser on the iPad.  Type 192.168.223.1 in the address bar and go to that site.  The printer's status page should load and look similar to the image below.
Click on the Network tab at the top of the Status page.  You may get a prompt warning about being redirected to an HTTPS site.  Click Ok on the message box to continue.  When you click OK, you may get a warning regarding the certificate or server identity.  Select the option that lets you continue.  The wording will vary from browser to browser, but there should be an option to continue anyway.
Network status page should now be loaded at this point.  Select Wireless Setup Wizard to start the wireless network setup and click Next.
When next is selected, it should list the available wireless networks.  Select your network from this list and select next.  When the network is selected, it should be highlighted.
Enter the network’s password, if any, and select next.
A message should be received indicating the name and if security is enabled.  The message below that should indicate the settings were saved successfully.  If it says the settings were saved successfully with an error, the network setup is more than likely functioning.  Select Ok at the bottom.
After selecting OK, select Status to verify the printer is connected successfully.  It may take a few minutes for the wireless light on the printer to stop flashing.  Once it is a solid blue, the printer should be on the network and functioning.
Once this is completed, then you will be able to reconnect to your normal wireless signal (Wireless Router) for internet access.  Now both the iPad and printer are on the same Home Network.

  • Printer keeps disappearing from Bonjour 1.0.4 Wizard

I have installed Bonjour 1.0.4 on Windows XP running under Parallels 2.x. If I click on the Bonjour Print Wizard, it will ‘see’ my HP 2550n Color LaserJet which is attached to the USB port of my AirPort Extreme Base Station, but the printer will disappear within about 13 seconds.
I have spent more than 6 hours today trying to somehow print from Windows XP through this printer. I have verified that UDP port 5353 is open in Windows XP. I have been on the phone with Apple tech support, read numerous articles on the Internet, and even read through Take Control of Your 802.11n AirPort Extreme Network. I followed the instructions in the article Printing to an AirPort Extreme Base Station from Windows XP, and in particular the instructions:
    5. In the "Select the Printer Port" screen, click "Create a new port."

    6. Select Standard TCP/IP Port from the pop-up menu.
    7. Click Next, and follow the onscreen instructions for the Add Standard TCP/IP Printer Port Wizard.
    8. In the Printer Name or IP Address field, enter 10.0.1.1. "IP_10.0.1.1" is generated as the port name.
I was able to print through this printer when it was attached to my my Linksys WRT54G, but cannot make it work with my two day old AirPort Extreme Base Station. I feel that I am very close to making this work, but cannot not figure out what is causing the printer to disappear in about 13 seconds from the Bonjour Printer Wizard. I would truly appreciate any help with this problem.

I had this same problem and I blogged about the solution.

  • My printer has disappeared from my devices and fails to reappear

    Hi all,
    Please can anyone help?
I have a Mac running os X 10.6.8. I have A C8180 printer. All linked through my wifi.
All was running fine until last night when my printer disappeared from the computer. Nothing had been changed or updated. My last print job ran fine and completed fully.
Now I have tried to find my printer and no luck.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled - nothing.
I have downloaded the latest driver from the hp website - nothing.
I have restore the factory settings on my printer then linked it back to the wifi. It log on but isnt seen by the computer.
    What has happened?
    Thanks in advance

Hello Charlie1974uk. I understand you are experiencing issues with your printer on Mac 10.6.8. I would like you to verify and repair disk permissions. Here are instructions on how to perform this task:
    a) Double-click the Macintosh hard drive icon on the desktop.
    b) Click Applications, then Utilities, and then double-click Disk Utility .
    c) Select the Macintosh HD directory on the left side. The directory is indented and is usually the second entry in the list (or very close).
    d) Click Repair Disk Permissions. It will take a few minutes to complete.
    e) Once it completes, close it.
When these steps are completed, restart the computer and then empty the trash bin.
Restart the computer again, try uninstalling and reinstalling the printer software. If this task cannot be performed, attempt the same steps on a different user account.
If at the end of these steps you realize the issue is not resolved, you will need to contact Apple support for further troubleshooting.
Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns.

  • Time Capsule disappears from network, but still routes. Forced to reboot.

My Time Capsule (approx 3 months old) operating properly for about 2 months, routing and Time Machine for 2 Macs.
Recently it has started disappearing from the network, Airport Util and Time Machine. After a reboot, everything will appear fine, but after a 5-15 days or so, it will just vanish again. It will still route network traffic just fine, but is not accessible.
    7.5.1
    WPA2 Personal
    1 USB printer attached
Internet is standard sharing, no DHCP issues
TC disk is available and working
    Only odd things:
I did play around with the workgroup on the TC a few times, as Windows comps were having major problems talking to eachother. No longer an issue (winpc's off network) and should not be related.
In the DHCP clients list, there are 2 IPs assigned to clients with the name of the Time Capsule. They both have MAC addresses too (huh?). All other machines connected to the network are accounted for already. I'm assuming this is some function of the TM backup process, as the TC is backing up 2 machines on that network.
I have not tried a hard reset yet, but if this happens again (4 times now, I'm sure it will happen again) I will hard reset and see what happens. I just don't see any reason it should vanish after a week.

you could be suffering from wireless interference.
perhaps one of your neighbor's wireless networks is interfering with yours. download iStumbler and note the channels other networks in the vicinity are broadcasting on.
change the channel your network is using as far away as possible from those.

  • IBook disappears from network when using Airport

Hi there. Until recently my wife and her iBook have happily shared files back and forth with my Mini, and she has been able to use my shared printer. Now, when she's connected to the internet through our Airport Graphite, our computers no longer show up on each other's network, and she can't find my shared printer.
I'm not sure if I have a software or hardware problem, but I can't figure it out on my own.
We have two desktops (a Mini and an eMac) connected to a cable modem through an ethernet hub. The Airport Graphite is also connected to the hub. The Airport is configured to distribute IP addresses, and ethernet client computers also share a single IP address (using NAT).
If we unplug the ethernet cable from our eMac and plug it into my wife's iBook, the iBook and Mini can once again "see" each other, and my wife can access my shared printer. When we unplug the ethernet from the iBook and go back to using the Airport, the iBook can still access the Internet, but it disappears from the local network.
I'm hoping there's a simple explanation that I'm missing. I'd be grateful for some help!
Mac Mini 1.2 GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Thanks so much for responding, Tesserax.
My hub is a "Linksys 5-Port Workgroup Hub," model EW5HUB.
The cable modem is plugged into the port called "Uplink." The Mini is plugged into port 1, the eMac into port 2, and the Airport into port 3.
The network has functioned properly in the past (the iBook used the printer plugged into the Mini, and we shared files back and forth). Recently, I had to reset the Airport, but I thought I had reconfigured it correctly. In short, Airport configuration would be my main suspect here.
I'm afraid I don't know what (if anything) is supplying NAT service. I assumed it was something the Airport does -- allowing it to sort out the flow of data to the various computers. The question is beyond my expertise level because I don't really understand what NAT service is. Is the problem in my Airport's Network configuration?
My ISP assigns IP addresses dynamically, so my Airport doesn't have a static IP address. However, my ISP allows for only two IP addresses, so I need my ethernet computers to also share the Airport's address.
I hope that, somewhere during my ramblings, a light has gone off in your more enlightened mind. Thanks again for your help!

  • Mac Mini keeps disappearing from network

I have a 2009 Mac Mini running 10.9.1 that is serving as a media center computer. Plex Media Server is on this machine along with my collection of movies and TV shows. I frequently access this machine using Plex clients, both on Mac and Roku, and also via file sharing and screen sharing on other macs. I almost always manage this machine through screen sharing, which makes this problem extremely frustrating.
Basically this mac keeps disappearing from my network. I can see it under "Shared" in finder on another computer, but when I click on it it hangs on "connecting" for a while and then just disappears. Same thing when trying to access via the Plex client on Roku. Sometimes I try to play something and it tells me to make sure my server is connected and running, and sometimes it doesn't even see my Plex media server at all.
I have screen sharing and file sharing enabled, and the firewall is set up to allow incoming connections for screen sharing, file sharing, and also Plex and all its helper programs. I don't think any of these should be the issue because I can access the mini with no problems SOME of the time just not all the time. Seems like if I haven't connected for some unknown amount of time this problem crops up. When it doesn't work I have to trot down to the basement, turn on the monitor (100" projection screen, so kind of annoying) and restart the computer. I have tried toggling "Put hard disks to sleep when possible," and that didn't seem to have any effect. I also have the energy saver set to wake for network access.
I do not recall having this problem as often, if ever, before I upgraded to Mavericks. Not sure if that could be part of the issue. One other quirk since upgrading to Mavericks is that upon every restart I am asked if I want to allow incoming connections for Plex and Connect 360, both of which are listed in the firewall preferences ad allowed programs.
    Can anybody help?

See if it's related to this...
It also seems to be related to later OSX versions, like 10.8.x & 10.9.x
The 2012 macs (and later apparently) (also later OSX versions on earlier Macs can do it also), not waking normally from sleep after hours being in sleep. (noted here ...

  • AXs keep disappearing from network

I have an Airport Extreme Base Station and two Airport Express units upstairs for Airtunes. All of the units have the latest firware upgrades. The network uses WPA2 Personal and WPS.
On multiple occassions, both of the AX units will stop streaming music. What I mean by that is the units will appear in the Airport Admin table and the lights on the units are green, but they will not stream the music. I usually have to reset the units in Airport Set Up Utility and let them restart in order to get them working again.
For awhile I had only 1 AX unit in my livingroom and don't think I had this problem. It seemed to develop shortly after I added a second AE unit on the porch. That unit was a demo model from my local Apple store but they said it was in perfect working order.
If I don't stream music for several days I usually find that the AXs don't respond and have to be reset. If I stream music for several hours, most of the time they will drop off in the middle of playing. They both seem to go off line together (it's all or nothing for music streaming.)
I have tried changing the channel (from 11 to 5) thinking it could be an interference problem but that hasn't helped.
Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    David

I too, started having problems when I added a second AX to my network. They both worked for about 36 hours and then one "disappeared" from my network.
Haven't tried resetting or configuring via ethernet connection. Just noticed this a.m. b/4 leaving for work.
I've been struggling for the better part of a week trying to get my home wireless setup and thought that I had only to encounter this new setback this morning.
I'll reply again if I'm successsful.

  • Hp deskjet 6100 disappears from network and ipad?

I connected and printed several times one day, but a few days later tried to print again and not only could I not print, the printer was gone from my settings.
    Any ideas why? Any remedies?

    Thank you for your feedback.
As for the router, try changing the following:
    1. Try channel 1, 6 or 11
    2. Try change the wireless security e.g. WEP, WPA OR WPA2

  • Imac disappears from network

I have submitted this question on the Airport Time capsule forum but was asked to do it here.
In short: My imac disappears from the network (it stops showing on the "devices/shared" area on Finder and then I am unable to put it back in. I suspect this happens when it goes to sleep, not sure.
Longer explanation: This started with multiple names of the imac appearing in the "shared" window. I am aware this is an unsolved issue. I did the recommended temporary fix and then had to restart all of my network to get it to work. it did, but later in the day the imac disappeared from it.
    I am running 10.10.1
    Thx

This is the only thing that will force a connection:
"If the computer is not on your local network or subnetwork, you can still connect to it by choosing Go > “Connect to Server” and typing its address in the “Connect to Server” dialog."
However this will not allow you to screen share and since my mac mini is headless it will not help me.
    Same here, firewall is OFF.

  • My New Every 2 disappeared from VZW computers when they were correcting upgrade to replacement

I have been a long time Verizon customer who has had New Every 2 ever since I started about 10 years or so ago. I used to have the old Western States calling plan which I switched to Nationwide 450 min plan 2 years ago when I changed to a Smartphone.
I got my $100 New Every 2 discount fine on that phone. Now I hear it went down to $50. But mine has disappeared from Verizon records (except for notes) apparently as part of their mixup when I replaced the defective smartphone (HTC Touch Pro 2). It was approved about 8 mo into my contract, but I was having trouble deciding what to replace it with (plus I was sick for several months so my brain wasn't into thinking about that). Before the year was up, I called the VZW rep who had agreed to the replacement (it was working but the backlight wouldn't always come on--sometimes I had to keep pressing it multiple times, as well as other issues).  I asked specifically if I had to do the replacement prior to the year being up. He said no, it had been agreed to so I didn't have to actually do it before the end of the year.
So I didn't. That led to multiple problems when I finally did replace it. Every step of the way, VZW was treating it as an upgrade rather than a replacement of the defective device.  They kept wanting to start a new 2 yr contract, etc & I kept telling them, no it was a replacement.  Wasted a lot of my time having to go over that each time I talked to a person. & finally, after i had adamantly refused to agree to a new 2 yr contract they said ok, but then I got a new 2 yr contract.  Ok, another call & they backed that out.
But the upgrade date was Dec 2012 instead of 2011 as it should have been. Another call. Finally they fixed that, but in so doing, rather than restore back to the original contract, they had me on mo to mo starting at the time of the replacement. & somehow in all that, the New Every 2 discount disappeared from the contract.
So I am just now upgrading--just got my new iPhone 4S which I trust will actually be a reliable smart phone for a change--but since the New Every 2 wasn't in the computer but just in the notes, I wasn't given the discount on the price, but she did give me a credit for that amount.
OK, now i'm concerned about next time. Is New Every 2 still available for those who have had it long term?
& how can I get it back in my contract, rather than just in the notes, so next time I don't have to go through all this again?
my previous phone had been a basic flip phone which just worked so I kept it for about 5 yrs before upgrading to the smart phone. I intended to keep it for several years, not expecting to have such defective WinMob phones. The replacement was a downgrade with less features & it has freezes & the alarms (which I count on) don't work well. I know smart phones are more complicated, but still. With 2 yr contracts it would be nice to have devices that actually last & work well for 2 years rather than having to have 2 devices, both of which have had issues during the 2 yr contract.
I trust the iPhone 4S will not only be a very useful & fun phone, but also a reliable one for a change, that I will keep for a while. But I am concerned about the status of New Every 2.
& now, soon I'm off to get my new iPhone 4S set up & activated at the Apple store.

    Thank you!
I actually just got off the phone with Verizon and thoroughly confused the Verizon Rep because he has never had that question asked before! He finally "tested" the new phone's activation status to see if the phone has been activated to my account, and he said it had (even though it is not actually associated with my number), and I can do what I want with the phone- store it, use it, let someone else use it, and not worry about the 30 day policy biting me in the b*tt with a huge charge of the phone's retail price!
Phew! I like it when it doesn't take weeks to get an answer (have had MANY hours on the phone with Verizon regarding diff. issues, and am always worried that problems and questions will take way too much time to answer).

  • Time Capsule disappears from network

    Hi,
I'm using a 2Tb Time Capsule (version 7.6.4), both for backing up my Mac mini and the iMac of my wife, as well as to create the LAN/WLAN at home. I never experienced any problems with it, until starting a few days ago the TC disappears from the network every now and then.
The funny thing is that the green LED is still on while the TC is 'gone', as well as internet access works without problems. After a couple of minutes the TC returns as if nothing would have happened. In case a scheduled backup is initiated while the TC is 'absent', I get an error message from the Time Machine, saying that it didn't find the backup disk. I restarted the TC once, but it didn't help.
    Cheers
                     Christopher

I have been having this issue the last few weeks. TimeMachine reports that it is unable to complete hourly backups and Airport Utility reports the prior seen TC cannot be found.
I have reset each device several times.
Tonight I ran Airport Utility and left it on and the Airport TC alternately reports "Device Not Found" (Internet light is green, Airport light is orange) and then a minute or two later "Reading Settings on Airport" (with both lights green). It then reverts to Device not Found.
This TC has been working just fine for the last 8 or 9 months since I bought it.
Is there a utility of some sort that I could run to check the integrity of the hardware?
