My USB mouse doesn't always start at boot.

After updating from Arch 0.7.1 to 0.8, one of the big pile of bugs I had was that my USB mouse doesn't always start at boot. In fact, when I start the computer, the red LED in the mouse lights up but sometimes it switches off after the menu where I can choose to use Arch linux or .. Arch linux.
So, the mouse switches off before I startx one time on two. When it happens I just deplug and replug it but I hate to do that.
Need some help.

dmesg when the mouse isn't working :

  • [SOLVED] External USB mouse doesn't work

I've installed Arch on my laptop and today faced with a problem. When I boot with AC off my external USB mouse doesn't work. Also it looks like USB ports don't work. If I detached AC when working mouse works fine.
I can suppose there is some problem with laptop mode. May be it turns off usb ports to save energy. Anyway quick search doesn't brings any results. If someone give me a hint how to solve this problem I'll be very grateful.

Well, after diving into configs solution has been founded. The point was to disable auto suspend feature in laptop-mode-tools config by setting BATT_SUSPEND_USB variable to 0 in /etc/laptop-mode/conf.d/usb-autosuspend.conf
Hope this information will be helpful for users who probably faced with the same problem. Thank you!

  • PB doesn't always start up/won't run on charged battery

I have a 15" aluminum PowerBook that I've slowly been bringing back to life after it had a full mug of coffee dumped into it. I cleaned everything out and it's working again, for the most part. However, there are a couple of unresolved problems. The biggest is the computer doesn't always start up. I've also noticed that it won't run on the battery alone, even though the battery is fully charged. When unplugging the computer, the screen goes dark but the computer is still making noise -- it's running to some extent. Any pointers on how to get things running again properly would be greatly appreciated.

If you're able to charge the battery while it's in the computer, and pushing the button on the back of the battery shows all the LEDs lighting up, that suggests that you have a logic board problem. There are only 4 components to the charging circuit: power adapter, DC-in card, battery, and logic board. If what you described is that you can hook the power adapter up and charge the battery completely in the computer, the only component left is the logic board.
While there aren't any tests I've found to test the charging circuit, have you run the Apple hardware test or either of the TechTool programs to test the system? Insert your original OS X disk that says 'AHT Version x.x' in small print on the label. Reboot holding the option key down, choose the Apple hardware test, and when prompted choose the extended test. Does that give you any errors?

  • Flash Builder 4.0.1 profiler doesn't always start correctly

    Hi,
I'm using Flash Builder 4.0.1 Premium to profile my application but the profiler doesn't always start (hook) correctly. Sometimes it works at first try, sometimes I have to restart the profiler up to 10 times before it finally hooks.
It's very annoying and waste of time. Do you have any solution for this?
    Thanks!
    Matetnic

Everything is set up correctly with the path folder - as this error occurs with an empty, blank, default AIR app built via "new".
I believe this is an error with 4.0.1 - as when I installed 4.5 demo (on OS X); this problem doesn't exist and I had no problems building an AIR app.
So either there's a problem with my version/copy/install of Flash Builder or it has something to do with the AIR/FB/and VMWare/Win7.

  • Poject doesn't always start on slide #1?

I have created a project using Captivate 4. I published as a swf file.  When I open the swf file the first time, it starts at the beginning on the 1st slide.  If I then close the swf file in the middle of another screen and then re-open it, it starts again on the screen where I closed it.  Is there a preference or something I can set so it always starts on the 1st screen, at the beginning?
    TIA,
    Adriana

Hi Adriana.  I think what you are seeing is the Self Paced Learning feature of the Table of Contents.  Open up your TOC (Project >> Table of Contents), then be sure you're on the TOC tab, then click the Settings button.  See if the Self Paced Learning check box is selected.  Un-check it if it is.
    Hope this help.

  • Usb mouse doesnøt work on snow leopard 10.6.8

Since upgrading to Snow Leopard 10.6.8 on a MacBook, my USB Mac mouse became erratic then stopped working entirely. I tried a wireless USB mouse. That also worked for a while, but it too then stopped. Please help. I'm not a Mac geek, so need to be held by the hand a little. Thanks for your help.

    Mkeschinger,
I was using it with 10.6.8 for a long time till now.
Actually here is how you configure with snow leopard, by apple:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5330
But is not working for me.
I gave up already. I will probably use the forward email function in the icloud, and slowly move to gmail.

  • USB Mouse doesn't work on my mbp

Ever since I got this new mbp, my USB mouse just won't work with it. I tested it in SL 10.6.4 to 10.6.6. It powers up, coz I can see the LED light coming up, is also shown in system profiler, but it just won't work. Here is the product and vendor ID.
    Product ID: 0x0a4c
    Vendor ID: 0x15d9
I have tested the mouse on another non mac machine, and it works perfectly. Also my usb ports work too coz I can make other peripherals work perfectly on it.
Any ideas? Did apple do something non standard in their recent SL versions to the USB stack?
    Any help/advice highly appreciated.
    Thanks

I was able to install both USB Overdrive and Steer Mouse. While USB Overdrive was able to detect my mouse, it still didn't make it work. Steer Mouse makes it work though. So hurray! And thanks for the help.
I wonder though, does this indicate anything? I would like to investigate what is it that Apple's USB stack is missing, and Steer Mouse driver has, that is causing this issue? Any hints/references that might lead me to the desired information would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

  • Mouse doesn't work with Option boot

I have a Logitech MX-310 USB mouse and it doesn't seem to be recognized for Option-booting.
If I click on a drive icon, it does not get selected. I have tried resetting the PRAM and doing an Open firmware reset, also plugging the mouse directly into one of the built-in USB ports. No good.
The closest I can get to selecting a startup drive is to press the wheel button, which selects two drives at once...
The mouse works normally otherwise, except for one strange thing. If I set the Energy Saver prefpane to sleep the monitor after a length of time, it goes to sleep then even when I am actively using the mouse (but not the keyboard).

    Hi, Dave -
Since no OS has yet been loaded when Startup Manager is open, it would appear that the source of the problem would be hardware, not software.
FWIW, did a bit of testing - although the Enter key will activate the 'do it' arrow (the right-hand, straight arrow), I could not find any key that would shift the selection of icon from one to the next.
If you have but two choices in Startup Manager, then you can switch boot volumes using a startup command other than Startup Manager - Command-Option-Shift-Delete. This instruction tells the Mac to skip the boot volume preset in PRAM (which is also the one preselected in Startup Manager), and to boot to the next bootable volume it finds. It is a one-time instruction, meaning it does not alter the boot volume setting in PRAM.

  • USB Mouse freezes as GNOME starts

    Hello,
I have just bought a new mouse to replace my old Wireless USB Logitech mouse which was perfectly supported by my system but I have a problem with my new one, a Roccat Kova (USB and driverless).
With GDM, my mouse works. Then I type my password and log in. GNOME is starting and my mouse is still working. But at the time the menu and task bars appear (GNOME is loaded), the cursor isn't movable anymore and others buttons don't work as well.
My mouse, which is driverless, should for example change LED colors when I press simultaneously two of its buttons. It doesn't in this situation. It is a complete freeze.
However, my USB keyboard still works and I can open up a console. Then I use a small script I've found on a blog (initially designed to make the MP3 player Sansa Fuze work with Linux) :
    sudo rmmod ehci-hcd
    sleep 1s
    sudo modprobe ehci-hcd
Then every connected via USB is stopped and 10 seconds later, everything works, even my mouse.
    That's it!
Here is an Xorg log : http://pastebin.com/3byrHv79
and the mouse section in /etc/X11/xorg.conf
    Section "InputDevice"
        Identifier     "Mouse0"
        Driver         "mouse"
        Option         "Protocol" "usb"
        Option         "Device" "/dev/input/mice"
        Option         "ZAxisMapping" "4 5 6 7"

Another detail : Once the script has rebooted USB support, you have to scroll with the wheel of the mouse to reactivate it.

  • SB 24 Live USB External Doesn't always st

    I Have a Dell GX260 and my SB 24 Li've plugged in to a
    front-panel USB port. I am running Windows 2000, SP4.
Usually, when I turn on the system, the blue power-on
lamp on the SB 24 lights up and everything is fine.
The lamp seems to light up about the time the disc's are
    being checked OK.
However, about in 3 reboots, the blue lamp stays off
and the OS doesn't see the SB.
This is annoying but easy to fix: I just unplug the
SB USB cable and plug it back in; the blue lamp
come on and everything is normal.
I'd like the SB to come on EVERY TIME, but I
can't figure out how to do this. I suspect some
service option or secret registry switch might be
involved. Does anyone know how to fix this?
Is it possible this might be an intermittent
    SB hardware problem?

The Li've! 24-bit does not have the common DSP known as EMU0Kx. It is not sure yet what the chip on it really offers, but I believe it is more of a hardwired version. Actually from the names used in the drivers, it appears that the chip is actually a part of the whole EMU0K2 chip, the P7 part which is responsible for the 24-bit processing. And from what I have heard, EAX support it emulated on the host.

  • Evdev Doesn't Work for the USB Mouse

    Hey There,
I'm using xorg.conf because Xorg 7.3 doesn't do several things I need.. (keyboard layouts, nvidia driver, synaptics, etc..)
Any way, my xorg.conf used to work fine until I upgraded to 7.3 today.. I know that nvidia legacy (96xx) driver doesn't work because of the ABI change in this version, so I'm not mentioning about it..
The biggest problem I have right now is that my USB mouse doesn't work now with evdev.. I had to change evdev to mouse and protocol to auto instead which confuses and distracts me..
I think that evdev has some problems recognizing..

  • "mc-stable" doesn't always fire up

Hello Archers. I have my system 100% up to date, have “mc-stable 4.8.1.5-1” installed from AUR, running IceWM. When I start “mc” in urxvt, it doesn't always start. Sometimes after hitting <ENTER> cursor just goes to new line and nothng happens no matter how lond I wait. No CPU load, no error or message, no nothing. Have to hit <Ctrl>+<C> to break, close urxvt, start it back again and try something like “mc . .”, and sometimes it workes. I can't recognize any pattern for when mc cannot start. Where might the problem lie?

FYI, mc-stable is no longer a valid package, as they don't maintain a separate stable branch anymore.

  • Prevent usb mouse starting pc from standby ( k8n Neo2 platinum )

I have a k8n neo2 platinum board and i have 2 mice connected, 1 is ps2 the other usb. What i want to do is stop the usb mouse starting the pc from standby, i looked in the bios but cant seem to find anyway to do this. Its a real pain, if the unit the pc is on is nudged by the chair or if someone pics something up and nudges the mouse the pc starts. Sometimes this happens of a night when ive gone to bed, i come down the next morning and the pc,s running. Its quite a quiet pc so if the tv,s on you dont always hear it start-up.

Ive just tried your suggestion now TheBigMan, i disabled everything and still the pc starts from the usb mouse. I have never known such messing about shutting down and starting up a pc. I really am starting to wish i had bought an asus board instead. Thanks for your input.

  • USB mouse button doesn't work on MacBook Unibody

Since the trackpad was not working, we have to use a USB mouse to navigate. After a few minutes, the mouse left and right button doesn't work. I can move the pointer around the screen and use the keyboard.
    Thoughts

The same problem happens with a Bluetooth apple mouse. You can scroll up, down and use the secondary (the right click) The problem normally developes after the MacBook has been running for a while and gets hot underneath.

sounds more like Bluetooth rather than moue, but w/o knowing w/o posting mac model type/year we... will... not... know... what you have
All computers are personal computers, a PC though is also "non-Apple" in common usage.
Mac also is platform and OS.
Very confused reading what you are trying to tell us.
