My webpage is massive in Safari and Firefox but fine in Chrome...

Hi,
I've been working in Dreamweaver CS5, my pages are all working fine across all browsers it's just the size which is different and I can't figure out why.
The sites not live yet but here's the code:

I've found that if I make it smaller either by changing the wrapper or exporting a smaller size from photoshop, the size is fine on Safari and Firefox but really small on Chrome. Prefer bigger rather than smaller but would be so great if there was something I could do to get them all the same...
Help. Thanks

Since we can't see your images without a link to your work in progress, my guess would be your zoom settings in those browsers are set to something other than 100%.
You are also shooting yourself in the foot in a major way with all that absolute positioning. APDivs have been removed from DW in newer versions because Adobe finally came to their senses and stopped allowing the marketing department to dictate how design should be done.

  • IWeb-generated site OK in Safari and Firefox, but no NavBar in IE

I created a site in iWeb and it displays fine in Safari and Firefox. However, the entire NavBar section is not displaying in Internet Explorer, despite loose permissions for running code in IE.
The script section from one of the pages appears below, and any help or suggestions are much appreciated. I need to get this site up, and really need it to be accessible for IE users.
    Thanks.

Are you using the navigation menu that comes with the page template? If so, it will not display on a PC with Internet Explorer unless javascript is turned on in the preferences. The template nav bars in iWeb use java and if this is not enabled on some computers, then it cannot be seen.
What you can do so that it will show up in IE, is to create your own text based navigation bar instead - to do this, just open the Inspector and then go to Page - second choice in and click on the boxes which say hide navigation menu and then just create your own by using a text box, shape or whatever. Don't forget to hyperlink to your pages though.

  • PDF Documents with Functional Buttons - Works for IE and FireFox but not for Chrome and Safari

    To all,
Good morning.  Our institution developed a PDF document with functional buttons for printing and e-mailing.  When the document is viewed via Internet Explorer and Firefox, the functional buttons work as expected.  However if the document is viewed via Chrome and Safari, the functional buttons do not work.  The workaround for those who are using Chrome and Safari, the PDF document needs to be saved to their local drive before the functional buttons work.
Has anyone experienced this issue before?  If yes, what was your solution other than the workaround.
    Thanks.

  • Flash Player 10 works in Safari and Firefox, but not IE 8?

Most times (not all) I load a page with Flash in IE, when I close, I get an error saying "IE has stopped responding" and then says it's something to do with Adobe Flash player. Since IE is the only browser that seems to freeze and stop responding due to Flash Player, could it be a problem with IE and not Flash Player?  If so, how do I fix the problem?  Please help.  I'm getting desperate.  I've been installing and uninstalling for at least two days now with no successs.

The error is "Internet Explorer has stopped working.  A problem caused the program to stop working correctly.  Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available". Then when I click on the Windows solutions icon, it says:
Adobe Flash Player has stopped working properly.
To troubleshoot this problem, follow these steps:
Click to go online and run the Flash Player  uninstaller
In the File Download dialog box, click Run, and then follow the  instructions to uninstall flash player. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the  password or provide confirmation.
Click to go online and install the Flash Player update
I've done both these things for 2-3 days now.  Nothing works.

  • Cannot install Flasy Player because the installation requires closing Safari and FireFox, but I've done that -- several times. What now?

I have typed in my message several times, am told I cannot post a blank message.  It is not blank.  What now?

  • How can I correct the problems I've been experiencing lately  with drop-down menus in general as well as and leading of text. It 's occurring  on both Safari and Firefox browsers.

The above headline pretty much covers the problems.
Access to the drop down menus is erratic.  Sometimes it's problem-free, but at other times it's impossible to see the options on the menu, or if they are visible, it's impossible to effect a change by clicking on one of them.  The times I notice it most is when I am trying to change fonts or font sizes, but  it occurs at other times, as well.
It's also frustrating to have to deal with double spacing (for example, when describing items on eBay).  Sometimes the text flows  normally,  but if I force a  return, the text that follows usually is double-spaced.
Often,  the justification option does not work either.
Occasionally, I can  get around one problem or another by switching back and forth between Safari and  Firefox, but eventually, the original problem resurfaces.
Because it happens on both browsers,  eBay tech support is inclined to think the problem is in my software. (I'm inclined to agree.)
Although they have suggested clearing  the history in FF, that option must have been relocated, because  it'sno longer under the "Tools"  menu, where it was  in the past. I also can't find  the clear  your cache option on OS Safari or 10.8.3.

I don't think it'd help much but clearing history is now in the History menu, and setting FF to clear history on exit is near the bottom of the Privacy tab of FF Preferences.
Also, if you don't have the Develop menu in Safari, open Safari preferences, click Advanced, and select “Show Develop menu in menu bar.” You'll find "Empty Caches" there.

  • HT1338 I am trying to download java onto my macbook pro, but for some reason this function isn't recognizing the internet.  The error message insists that I am not connected but I am.  I have tried this through both safari and firefox

Sorry I didn't realize the above was just a subject line.
I have been trying to download java for my macbook pro, but for some reason the function is not recognizing the internet.  I am on and have checked several times .... I have checked through both safari and firefox but to no avail.  Thanks for any help anyone can give.

Not really a reply just some added info:
This is the error message I get saying the internet is not on, but clearly as I can send this message it has to be:
To open “Java Preferences,” you need to install a Java runtime, but you are not connected to the Internet.
I am connected through Wi-fi if that makes a difference.

  • Both Safari and Firefox will not load webpage

This is an issue in both Safari and Firefox (I use Firefox as my default, but since it's happening in Safari too, I figured I could post the problem here). I frequently visit Crate & Barrel's website and cb2.com, and as of recent I have not been able to load the site. I've tried on both my eMac (Safari and Firefox) and on my new iMac. I was able to load the page on a windows computer in my house. I'm not sure if I ever viewed their website on my iMac since it's new as of last month. On the eMac I visited the site often. Why all of the sudden would I not be able to load the website? Any help is greatly appreciated!

You have to love when Customer Service reps don't actually read your message:
    To Crate & Barrel:
"I recently have not been able to access the Crate&Barrel
website on either my Apple eMac or my new iMac. However, I can access
the site on a Windows computer. I am using Firefox, so it can't be an
issue with the browser. I try to access the site using Safari and that
does not work either. I used to visit the site often on my eMac and
never had any issues loading the page. Any ideas as to what the problem
may be? And why all of the sudden? Any help is appreciated."
    Crate & Barrel's Response:
    "Thank you for your email.
If you are experiencing problems with our website site, feel free to download any of the following recommended browsers:
Firefox (For Mac, Windows and Linux)

If this does not work, we are not sure why you are experiencing difficulties. Please try to visit our website again later."
Are you serious? Did I not mention that I was using both Safari and Firefox?

  • Trouble loading some webpages in both Safari and Firefox

I am relatively new with Mac and have been reading a lot of the forum posts for my issue and can't seem to find the right remedy. I hope there is an answer out there, some where.
Here's is what I am working with, Safari 3.2.1, Firefox 3.0.10.
    Here's what happened/s/ing:
A few days ago my homepage for both safari and firefox, www.google.com wouldn't load. I found I was able to load www.yahoo.com and other pages but some specific pages, wouldn't load. Those pages I can no longer load are employment websites with Taleo software which are redirects from the main employer page. The pages have loaded for me in the recent past.
I spoke with Mac Applecare technicians who ran me through what seems to be common advice in the forum to clear the cache, reset safari, repair permissions, run Onyx, change DNS servers, renamed my harddrive and rebooted, and so on. I have done them all, with limited success. By changing the DNS servers, I got google.com back but that is it. Nothing however has remedied the Taleo related sites.
My suspicion is there is a 3rd party software that is interfering but I feel like i have run the checks and there isn't. Or, something regarding the flashplayer or applets that need to load related to the Taleo software of the sites I am trying to reach that is running in the background without my knowledge.
The only program update that I can recall around the time of this trouble is I believe a Firefox update.
So, anyone have an idea how to fix this? I am in need of a job and need to access these sites. Obviously, I am not looking in the IT field for employment.
Thanks in advance for any constructive advice.

  • Safari and Firefox not loading pages

Safari and Firefox are now selectively not loading certain pages. Sites like penny-arcade.com and staffingnow.com give me a ...
Safari can’t connect to the server.
Safari can’t open the page “http://www.staffingnow.com/” because it could not connect to the server “www.staffingnow.com”.
message. Now I have tried to empty my cookies, my cache, I have cleared all data that can be cleared. I've renewed my DHCP lease, reset my router, restarted my computer, etc and none of it seems to help.
I've tried loading them on my girlfriend's pc and they load up fine.
    Any ideas?

Having the same problem here, only I dont have firefox. Safari refuses to load my webpage www.epicvideo.com.au yet any other computer can access it. I have another site, with the same server, on a similar but cheaper plan, that loads every time.
I have no problems with download speeds, but from reading discussions, some individual sites, hand-picked by Safari, refuse to load. My business website is the only site Safari wont load - I get the error "Bad Request (Invalid Hostname)" - frustrating when running a business!!!!
Ive done it all to, emptied the cache, reset safari, deleted all my book marks (yay), turned off my modem, restarted my server, spoken to tech staff at my STMP and website server... even Mac Heads at Telstra... no answers.
Lastly, im finding discussions not helping too much either, cause im just deleting files and changing settings etc - something that will surely cause me more grief!!

  • Having trouble previewing my website on Safari and Firefox from Dreamweaver CS5

    Hi,
I previously built a website using Dreamweaver version CS3 and it ran well.  Now that I I have upgraded to Dreamweaver CS5, I'm having trouble previewing the menu text on my website and flash picture text.  I'm using  an Apple operating sytem (10.6.8).  While previewing the web page On Safari and Firefox within Dreamweaver, my menus and the flash picture text have not shown up and the main page contained an error that says:
"Adobe Flash Player has stopped a potentially unsafe operation.
The following local application on your computer or network:
    null
is trying to communicate with this Internet-enabled location:
    s.ytimg.com
To let this application communicate with the Internet, click Settings.
You must restart this application after changing your settings."
Can you tell me what I do to correct this?

This is often related to embedded YouTube videos in your webpage.
    See http://forums.adobe.com/thread/499751
"This warning is talking about the Flash Global Security Settings Manager. This is not a virus but rather a very common security step related to allowing Flash to connect to the Internet while testing on your local machine. This only occurs during testing on your local machine and does not come into play when that same Flash object is on the Web page on the server.
The Settings Manger allows you to "approve" connecting to the Internet for a particular Flash object.
    http://www.macromedia.com/support/documentation/en/flashplayer/help/se ttings_manager04.html
So go to the Settings Manager, Click "Edit Locations" or "Add Location" and browse on you computer for the Flash file that you are giving permisssion to connect to the Internet. Each Flash object that attempts to access the Internet will need to be given permission separately.
Kind of a pain... or just upload your Flash to the server and test from there, then it's not an issue."

  • Safari AND firefox slow

I have problems with both Safari and Firefox being ridiculously slow on certain webpages, up to a point where they won't load at all. Good example is Yahoo webmail. I am back to using a stone age dell laptop when I need to check Yahoo mail. Having browsed this forum it appears that quite a few people have similar issues with Safari and a standard remedy is to use Firefox instead. Won't work for me since I have the very same problems with Firefox .... Can someone help me out with this? THANKS!

No, the 4.2.2.1 and 4.2.2.2 servers belong to Verizon; they have nothing to do with OpenDNS, which are for any location worldwide; they are not for or limited to non-US locations.
Are the sites you're having problems with bookmarked, or do you type them in each time? Did you try creating a new user account for testing to see if the problem exists there, too? If it does, that would indicate a system-wide problem. Also, do you have any Input Managers or Application Support items for things that work with Safari that might be causing the problem?
Compare your TCP/IP settings for your Ethernet connection to those for your Airport Extreme connection and reply with what you have for each one.
    You should also try this:
    1. Quit Safari if it's running.
    2. Go to ~/Library/Caches/Safari and delete the entire contents of that folder.
    3. Go to ~/Library/Safari and remove any of these items that exist there:
    Form Values
    Downloads.plist
    History.plist
    LastSession.plist
    WebpageIcons.db
    4. Restart Safari and test it on those sites and a variety of others to see if the problem is resolved.

    1. From the Safari menu bar, select
              Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Extensions
Turn all extensions OFF and test. If the problem is resolved, turn extensions back ON and then disable them one or a few at a time until you find the culprit.
    2. Select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Privacy ▹ Remove All Website Data...
    and confirm. Test.
    3. If the above steps don't resolve the problem, please describe it in more detail.

  • Problems with Safari and Firefox (HTTP?)

Problems with Safari and Firefox (HTTP?)
    On a laptop G4, 10.5.8 and Safari 5.02 I experience the following:
On the account of my oldest daughter everything works fine, i.e. wireless internet works and no problems with mail or safari.
On the same laptop, on the account of my other daughter, the wireless is OK, she can mail etc. But safari nor firefox works. It says: can’t find server (whatever site) and in the activity window it looks if safari tries to open files (in the safari preferences-folder) in stead of http. Same applies to Firefox, so maybe it has more to do with HTTP in general?
What goes wrong? What to do? I tried the following on the host terminal (tips from Apple)
defaults write com.apple.safari WebKitDNSPrefetchingEnabled -boolean false
    and
    defaults delete com.apple.safari WebKitDNSPrefetchingEnabled
    but that did not help,
    Nanne

I'm still wondering why it happens now at this moment in time...
PC does seem to be a bit odd & inconsistent, the few times I've tested with it, at least so far as we content filtering goes; and if I remember rightly, you're not the first to report previously ok settings suddenly preventing some or all internet until pc is switched off altogether.
    It may work when re-enabled

Safari and firefox stop working after a few minutes of browsing, regardless of what site I'm on. I have to restart my computer to get internet access again but it only works for a few more minutes, then I have to restart again. I don't get a spinning ball, it just stops working at whatever page it's on. I can close the program just fine but when I re-open it, either safari or firefox, it freezes trying to load the hompage. This started a few days ago after trying to stream a movie on my computer. I'm on a Mac Air OS X Version 10.6.8 and have downloaded all updates. When I go into finder, it says I have over 80 gigs available. Is there some other memory cache that I need to check? Thanks so much for your help.

It's not a router problem as I explained in my post. If it was a router problem then I wouldn't have the problem everywhere I go. It is an issue with the software.
Then I guess the millions of people running 10.5.7 with no issues are just hallucinating that their machines are working fine?
I'm not trying to belittle your issues; you're certainly having them and I know first hand how annoying an intermittent AirPort issue can be. (In fact, mine was due to an AirPort driver bug that no one else seemed to suffer from.)
The single best diagnostic you could do is take your system running 10.5.7 to an Apple Store, and try using their in-store network.
If your machine performs flawlessly, it may be a router issue.
If your machine has connectivity issues there, it may be a hardware problem with your machine.
There have been numerous people in multiple threads over the years who swore that an update was buggy because things used to work, but returned later to sheepishly admit that they took their machine in, a problem was found and fixed, and now their Mac works flawlessly with the newer software.
But simply reinstalling 10.5.5 in no way means the explanation of how firmware bugs may be at play here is incorrect.
In the context of that explanation, all you've done is possibly reinstall software that asks to add "2 + 3."
