MySQL broken - any ideas?

Hi,
I run the apache webserver with PHP and a MySQL server to test websites that I build. At some point, the MySQL server appears to have broken. I get the following message:
"Warning: mysql_connect(): Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/mysql/mysql.sock' (2) in /Volumes/work/websites/bikinmotion_osc/includes/functions/database.php on line 19
Unable to connect to database server!"
I have the lastest updates for OSX, and I've tried reinstalling the MySQL server, which is the official one from the MySQL site..... any other bright ideas?

Are you sure it's MySQL that's causing the problems? I have a similar setup on my Powerbook: Apache 2.0.54, MySQL 5 and PHP 5.0.4, all compiled manually. I use it to design & prototype Drupal sites. Everything worked without a hitch until this past weekend. Code failed repeatedly. I re-installed Drupal and MySQL, but to no avail. I started looking at the logs and realized that Apache was throwing a ton of thread errors when certain PHP-based modules were used.
I double-checked my update logs and noticed a correlation between my updating the laptop to 10.4.5 and the appearance of the thread errors in the logs.
Looks like one of the changes in the upgrade had an impact on PHP or on Apache. I'm going to try recompiling them to see if that fixes it.

  • Exposé is broken - any ideas how to fix it?

    Hello, I have a MacPro 2x 2.8GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon with 6GB RAM and running 10.6.8
I installed the latest Software Update to fix a Security Issue tonight and since then my Exposé is not working. I checked my Prefs files and my Mighty Mouse, it shows the correct set up in the panes but it just doesn't work anymore. Any ideas how to fix it?
Is it related to me installing Diablo 2 today by any chance?
    Thanks

ok, it seems someone else had this issue too as this post has just appeared - with a cure for the problem I may add. Tried this and it worked like a dream!
I'm having huge problems with my MBP (2010). Exposé just stopped working, both the key on the keyboard and the multitouch gesture stopped working. Does anyone have any idea why, or how to solve it?

  • Any ideas on how to track a stolen or lost ipod

any body have any ideas how to find a stolen or lost ipod   it's been gone for a couple of weeks and I am heart broken
    any ideas would help thanks

There is really nothing special you can do not. The battery would be dead by no so you could not find it via iCloud.
Change the passwords for all accounts used on the iPod and report to police.
    Apple will not do anything.

  • I cant get itunes on my new laptop.  My laptop says I have to remove itunes from another computer as I can only have it on 5.  Problem is that apart from my ipad, I no longer have the others as they were either broken beyond repair or lost.  Any ideas?

I am not good with computers.  I am trying to get my iTunes onto this new laptop but it says I am only allowed to have it on 5 computers and I must take it off one to ut it on this new laptop.  Problem is, apart from my iPad, I have lost one laptop and two have been broken beyond repair so I am unable to take it off!  Anyone any ideas?  I have tried to get iTunes support but cant get past the "date of purchase" as I can only guess when I bought my ipod (2009)

    Hang on...
You can only authorise the songs you purchase from the iTunes Store to play on five computers.
You can download and install iTunes (the iTunes programme) onto as many computers as you wish.
    Two different things.
Assuming therefore, that your problem is that you have authorised five computers, but now no longer have some of them, you need to de-authorise all your computers and then re-authorise the computers you still have.
To de-authorise your computers, go to your account in the iTunes Store and look for the Deauthorise All button.

That happened to my brother earlier. He went into Facebooand then into another app and the same thing happened. he ended up having to restore it. Mine stayed with the Apple logo for a bit but its back to normal after pressing the buttons a million times. I hope you get your problem sorted. Goodluck!

I need to fix a broken screen. iPhone 5 any ideas?

Contact Apple support at the appropriate number from: http://support.apple.com/kb/HE57 and ask about possible screen replacement being offered in the UK for the iPhone 5...in the US that is only done on the iPhone 5, and not at all Apple stores at this time.  Only certain ones are doing so.
If that is not an option, an out-of-warranty replacement for the iPhone 5 is $229 in the US, convert to Pounds Sterling.

  • Help with broken screen on new ipad plee I have brand new iPad when the smart cover slipped.  Any ideas on cost to replace screen as it has shattered. Thanks in advance.

I have just dropped my brand new iPad when the smart cover slipped.  Any ideas on cost to replace screen as it has shattered. Thanks in advance.

    Flat rate $299.
Actually, they won't replace the screen, they'll replace it.  The following is a C&P from the link that I gave you.
"If you own an iPad that is ineligible for warranty service but is eligible for Out-of-Warranty (OOW) Service, Apple will replace your iPad with an iPad that is new or equivalent to new in both performance and reliability for the Out-of-Warranty Service fee listed below."

  • MySQL broken out of the box - error 2002.

MySQL is broken out of the box - 10.5.2 server. Brand new Xserve, an untouched OS X Server installation, no tinkering was done *at all*.
    Here's what I did:
    1. Opened Server Admin.
    2. Added MySQL service.
    3. Went to Settings.
    4. Changed "Database location" to be on another, faster drive in the Xserve.
    5. Clicked "Start MySQL" button
    6. Opened Terminal, typed in "mysql" and hit Return.
    What do I get?
ERROR 2002 (HY000): Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/mysql/mysql.sock' (2)
There's no mysql.sock file there, nor in /temp. Running lsof while the mysql daemon is "started up" shows there is a mysql.sock file in /var/mysql though. Very odd.
Any ideas? I'd like to avoid rolling my own install of MySQL, and stick with the built-in version.

Might [http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302977|http://docs.info.apple.c om/article.html?artnum=302977] help here? That's for Mac OS X Server Tiger 10.4.4 and not Leopard 10.5 yes, but looks applicable here.
And FWIW, this basic case is fairly standard MySQL socket behavior on various platforms. That the GUI apparently allowed you to shoot yourself in the foot here is another discussion.

    - Have you tried another USB port and cable?
    - Inspect the dock connector for bend or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.

  • Can't boot up after Yosemite, not even in safe mode. Just hangs, or states unable to repair. Any ideas?

When starting up it tried to install Yosemite, got about half way throught then stated it could not repair the disk (it wasn't broken!). Now it doesn't even try to install, it just get half way through a normal boot up and hangs. Have no access to anything so can't even uninstall/delete. The boot disk that came with my Mac doesn't work either. Can anyone think of a way out of this and still save what's on the disk?

Hey there, it looks like you have a serious issue with Windows. However, as far as I can tell, Firefox is unable to cause this to your system. The update is confined to the Firefox program files, at worst it would make Firefox unusable.
Unfortunately I don't have any idea what might have caused the issue in this case, but I'd suggest asking in forums that are specifically for Windows. They might be able to help you with getting back to a functional system.

  • Internet suddenly stopped working on WRT54G for no apparent reason. Any ideas??

I have a WRT54G v2 that has been working fine until a couple days ago the internet stopped responding.  Internet works fine with direct connection from modem so that isn't the problem.  Internet light on front of router is solid green when internet is plugged into it but computers can't access internet wirelessly or through ethernet connected to router.  All other lights seem to be functioning properly too.  I can ping 192.168.1.1 and can still access the web setup page.  I have flashed most recent firmware and done hard reset several times.  I've tried dhcp and tried setting up a static IP; neither makes a difference.
I'm beginning to wonder if this is a hardware issue and the internet port on the router has somehow broken.
Has anyone experienced anything like this?  Any ideas/help is appreciated.

I am having a similar problem with my wrt-54g ver 8 (firmware 8.00.5.002).  i lose internet connection through the router every couple of hours.  direct connections to modem work fine.  i have a switch connected to the router to provide a connection through cat5 in other parts of the house (which are connected to the switch).  the only fix is to unplug the router and restart.  once i do that every computer will work.  i have called tech support at least 8 times.  they sent me a replacement router (same model and firmware) and I'm having the same problems with this one.  they have taken me through numerous resets, reconfigs, including remote access help to address this and the problem continues to occur.  anyone have any suggestions?  my ISP is Cablevision,  Long Island NY.
I have one computer directly to the router.  two others through the switch and a printer through the switch.  all are dell machines using XP except for one which is a Vista machiine.
any suggestions would be helpful. this is incredibly annoying and tech support so far has been unable to isolate the problem or fix it.
