MySQL Version Question

Up till now I have been on a server using version 4.1 but I
have now
purchased my own little bit of the internet and I have the
option of
installing version 5, are there any major advantages to me in
doing this in
relation to the shopping cart software I am using i.e. WA
eCart and
Cartweaver ? or are the new features not relevant to these
types of
applications until I start rolling my own so to speak.
Thanks

If you have the option of version 5, take it. It will make
upgrading to
subsequent versions a lot easier. MySQL 5 offers improved
features such
as stored procedures and views. Although they're not
supported by
Dreamweaver, you may find them useful, particularly once you
decide to
start developing things on your own.
AFAIK, MySQL 5.2 is likely to be the important upgrade
(probably at
least a year away), as it's planned to introduce support for
foreign key
restraints in the default MyISAM table. At the moment, only
InnoDB
tables have support for foreign key restraints, but most
hosting
companies don't provide support for InnoDB.

    hello,
I have a problem with installation of mysql. I doesn't work.   Which mysql version is for Mac OS X 10.6.7 .
    thanks alot in advance.

Hi, thanks for your reply. My Problem: I have to install the MySQL in order to do some Exercise with mySQL. so I installed MySQL 5.5 and it didn't work, because I have the Intel (10.06.8). so I decided to remove mySQL, and I used the following commands:
    sudo rm /usr/local/mysql
    sudo rm -rf /usr/local/mysql*
    sudo rm -rf /Library/StartupItems/MySQLCOM
    sudo rm -rf /Library/PreferencePanes/My*
    sudo rm -rf /Library/Receipts/mysql*
    sudo rm -rf /Library/Receipts/MySQL*
    sudo rm /etc/my.cnf
    sudo rm /var/db/dslocal/nodes/Default/groups/_mysql.plist

    sudo rm /var/db/receipts/com.mysql.mysql.bom
    sudo rm /var/db/receipts/com.mysql.mysql..plist
Yes,  I thought I removed the Mysql.  then I tried to install MySQL  version 5.1.58 ,  and at the end of installation, I received an Error  message: System Error.
    my Questions:
    1. How can I rollback my System  to previous state?

  • Stop MySQL 4; Remove it; Install MySQL 5+ version Questions

I just got a Mac Pro Quad-Core Intel Xeon (64-bit) at my workplace (woohoo!).
The IT dept. at my work migrated my earlier Mac contents over to it, including the version of MySQL 4.? on the older Mac. I want to remove that older version of MySQL and install version 5.0.8.1 (or whatever is the stable version that should have come with my new computer). I don't have any tables or data on the old version as I am just learning how to do all this, so I am not worried about losing data.
My plan is to stop the MySQL 4. Remove it from the computer using terminal commands and then download MacPorts and use it to install MySQL 5.
I ran the command and got the response as follows:
    "sudo /Library/StartupItems/MySQLCOM/MySQLCOM stop
    Password:
    Stopping MySQL database server"
    My questions are:
    1. How do I know if it really is stopped? Shouldn't it say "MySQL stopped" or something?
    2. Does it matter if it isn't stop when I remove it?
    3. Is using MacPorts a good way to go to accomplish the new install?
Thanks for any help you can give me with this.
    Best,
    Shelley

Thanks baltwo. I actually tried doing that but I still came up with the version 4 of MySQL. I have two hard drives and I partitioned one of them into a Time Machine area and a second system area. When I installed from the CD's into the second system partition, it did not install any version of MySQL.
So I renamed my version 4 MySQL directory to mysql_backup and removed the version 4. Then I downloaded mysql-5.1.47-osx10.6-x86_64.dmg and installed it. It is now running and I will start the process of assigning passwords and securing it. I did this with the help of Charlie Minow in the Technologies section for Unix.
My thanks to both of you for your help!

  • Tiger Server Upgrade - Will it upgrade MySQL version automatically?

I am researching, testing and planning a Tiger upgrade to minimize downtime on a critical mail/web server and I need to know if the MySQL v3.23 databases will survive intact or will they be upgraded to the default version that comes with Tiger? Seems like a simple and common question, but I have yet to find a simple answer. I have read problems with PHP and MySQL not talking after the upgrade relating to the php.ini file, but nothing about MySQL in particular.

  • Multiple Software Versions Question

Rookie question here.  My organization recently purchased a new copy of InDesign CS6 for me and one other employee.  We did NOT purchase Creative Cloud subscriptions, but hard copy licenses.  The software is working great and we love your product.  The problem we are having is in regards to other people in our organization trying to open our newly created InDesign Documents (CS6) with their older version of the software (CS5).  We do NOT have the option to upgrade the CS5 software licenses, so what are our options for those employees with CS5 to be able to view and edit documents created in CS6?  I'm assuming there is a way to save the CS6 documents as older versions, correct?  We all operate Windows PC's.  I greatly appreciate your help.

@Todd – the only way saving back is exporting to IDML from CS6 and open the IDML in CS5.
If this is a reliable workflow is questionable. You have to proofread the opened IDML in CS5. I recommend to export to PDF from CS6 as well and compare the PDF with the opend IDML in CS5.

  • MySQL /JDBC Question

I began playing with JDBC a few days ago. I set up a database using mySQL and wrote a simple java program that will connect to it. Works good from the computer that holds the database.
I try and run the same program from my secondary computer which does not have mySQL or ODBC mySQL drivers, I get com.mysql.jdbc.Driver for an error message. (Trying to access the database on my main computer via ip/databasename)
My Question is, do you HAVE to have mySQL or Connector/ODBC installed on a computer if you wish to connect to a database on other computer??
Here's where it prints the error message...
    try
    Class.forName("com.mysql.jdbc.Driver");
    catch (Exception e)
    JOptionPane.showMessageDialog(null, "ERROR = " + e.getMessage());
I use this as my url..
    private final String url = "jdbc:mysql://122.122.122.122:3306/test123";

Say I want to make a simple web applet that will
access a database on my computer. The only way my
vistors to my website will be able to access the
database via the web applet is by having mySQL JDBC
    driver installed on their computers?yes.
    however.
you can package up the JDBC driver as part of your jar with your applet so it doesn't require the user to "install" anything. it's just part of your applet.

  • Quick MySQL Indexing question

    Hi all,
I know this is not strcitly a JDBC problem, but i was wodering if you have any ideas anyhow...
I've implemented an Index on two of my columns in a table in my MySQL db. My question is, when i insert new rows into the database, is the index automatically updated? If not, how do I go about updating the Index?
    Many thanks,
    BBB

I thought the database would manage that for you. AFAIK, you don't have to do anything. That's the way it is in Oracle. I thought that was true for all RDBMS. - MOD

  • Acrobat.exe product version question

    Hi
Does anyone know of a link in Adobe where it shows every product version number for all acrobat.exe they have produced?
Basically i just want to be able to see which version of the file is a professional and standard version. (Based on the file product number).
eg. Acrobat.exe product number 8.1.0.2007051100 is a professional version.
    Thanks
    DM

I think there is a list, but the problem is it may vary based on the source and version as I recall a comment before. Anyway, the fastest way of getting the information is still probably to run the program, using one with Pro and one with Std. Sorry that I can't be more helpful, but the last time I saw a question about these numbers the answer was rather mixed and indicated it varied with the source of the product and several other factors. I don't really know more.

  • Process and Form version question

a few questions related to the versions of Forms and Processes:
    1) in WorkSpace, launch a process, then put the form in "Draft".
then modify its XDP, the form gets a new version in the repository.
what's going to happen to my Draft?
when I launch the Draft again, will it use the new version or old version of the XDP?
    2) launch a process, starts the workflow,
    before the workflow completes,
(say, it has 5 user tasks, only 3 users have processed it)
I update the process map and/or the forms.
will that unfinished process instance follow the new workflow map? or the old?
    3) when there are unfinished 'running' process instances in the system,
    I deactivate the process.
what's going to happen to those unfinished instances?
will they still be able to complete?
    4) when there are unfinished process instances in the system,
but I don't want anybody to launch any new instances from WorkSpace,
    how do I do that?
do I remove its "TaskManager" endpoint? or?
    thanks
    James

1)Itll re-render the form so it will take the latest version from the repository.
2)It will follow the original process. Only initiating new processes will follow new process map. As for the forms, the new version will take effect immediately.
3a)what's going to happen to those unfinished instances?
Theyll stay in a running state in the database
3b)will they still be able to complete?
Not until you re-activate the process.
4)Yes you can remove/disable the endpoint.

  • Version question - v1.4.1_02-b06

    Hi all,
Quick question - could someone confirm if the above runtime environment is a beta version, or full release?

That's not a beta version. The 'b' stands for build, not beta.

  • IMovie Version Questions

I've read with interest the issues regarding iMovie8 and regret just having purchsed a new iMac, primarily to upgrade from an old iMovie4 version. The inability to export back to tape (that was Apple tech advice for best means of storage!). Based on reading posts, iMovie6 addresses some issues, but I have two questions for those of you knowledgeable about this situation:
1-I read somewhere in the many chains that any version of iMovie past 4 (that I have) will no longer "pass through" analog signals from a camera (in my case Sony) and convert to digital: that is exactly what I've been doing over the last several years with older analog tapes (Hi8) of our kids. So, does this mean if I go even to iMovie6 I'll be unable to digitize video from those old tape? If so, I'm completely boxed in.
2-With older iMovie versions, the transfer back to tape has worked perfectly. But, with iMovie4, I find that as it goes back to tape on the camera, there are occasional "freezes"--the image stops for a fraction of a second or a second or two. And that freeze is on the tape version (even though the movie itself on the computer is fine. Has anyone had this issue with any version of iMovie that still allows transfer back to tape.
I'm feeling very abused...potentially unable to use old analog tapes with iMovie6, unable to transfer back with iMovie8, and the transfers are not working well with iMovie4. Any advice appreciated.

Thanks for your several responses. Based on your comments, iMovie6 should be ok for both analog pass through my Sony directly into iMovie, and to transfer back to tape. Others had indicated that the analog pass through was not operative after 4, but you're doing exactly what I'm asking about. Based on all comments I've read, neither analog pass through nor transfer back to tape will work in iMovie 8. I guess I'll proceed, and download iMovie6 as others seem to have done...although I've seen some issues with running 6 when 8 is on the computer. Thanks again.

  • PHP/MySQL versions needed?

Sorry, I haven't tested anything on an Intel Mac yet. Testing
    everything
on Vista for my new Dreamweaver book has given me enough of a
    headache.
However, I'm pretty sure that my editor has an Intel Mac, and
    he
followed the instructions in "PHP Solutions" without any
    major hiccups.
(They're pretty much the same as in the Flash book.)
Isn't there a MySQL.prefPane icon in the MySQL installation
    package? I
have found that MySQL won't start automatically on 10.4 (it
    did on
10.3), but as long as you install the prefPane, you should be
    able to go
    in and start it manually.

  • Mysql database question

Let's say that I am making a java program that connects to a Mysql database and uses the database "MyDatabase".
Forgive me, but I am relating this to a Microsoft Access database.
The database is not on a network, but is (or will be installed) on the user's machine. In otherwords, the database will be on the user's machine and the changes to the database will only affect that user.
If I am to let a user use this program, will they have to also have Mysql installed for the program to access the database and pull information from it?

(if you are asking if the code could directly
    access/manipulate MySQL datafiles without going
through the MySQL program, I suppose in theory you
could, but I seriously doubt you really want to)The reason being is that it would be a client database for their own use, as oppose to sharing the database with others.
    In any case, Thanks!
Next question: is there any place where I could go to find code that would treat the Mysql database as a client database (so far, the code that I found requires Mysql to be installed and running in the background on the user's machine)?
