Myst-End of Ages mouse movement & screen choppy and erratic

Ubisoft says its an Apple problem - Apple says its a Ubisolf problem. The problem started half way
through the game and I would like to finish it, but I can't the way it is. Can this be fixed???

Which "model" & "generation" G5 iMac do you have?

  • IMAC and external screen--screen flickering and erratic mouse behavior

I have purchased a screen Medion 25.5 inch to connect it to my IMAC 27 inch.
I have noticed two unexpected behaviours:
    - from time to time, after the IMAC comes out of the SLEEP mode, the external screen is flickering, I need to put the IMAC to sleep one or several times before the display of the external screen becomes stable.
    - since I connected the external screen, the behavior of the mouse is highly erratic, eg when I move the mouse by a fraction of a millimeter, the display of the mouse pointer moves by half a screen, or even disappears completely. I have performed many tests, with several apple mice, a Dell mouse and a Microsoft mouse. As soon as I completely disconnect the screen (not only power the screen down) the mouse works normally again. I have now decided to stop using the external screen until a software update resolves the situation.
    Any advice?
    Patrick

When my 2008 24" iMac started to die from overheating, two of the symptoms I would see would be white flickering from the bottom going about half way up, like it was going blank and repainting the screen over and over. Also, the mouse pointer would jump erratically to all the edges and corners of the screen. After a few seconds, it might recover or it might freeze. I would use a program like iStat Pro to see what your temps are when you attach that screen. I suspect it may be excess heat due to the GPU now pushing two screens instead of 1?
Also try diags, and all those reset thingies people keep mentioning over and over.

  • Mouse moves both cursor AND screen

This is something new, and it just started a few minutes ago for no reason that I can see. It's simply that when I move my mouse, the whole screen moves. The cursor moves as it should, but the screen moves in the opposite direction from the cursor. I can still manage to operate the computer, but it is much more difficult to do so.

    That did it. Thanks.

  • Mouse moves screen image back and forth (baby changed some setting)

My son was banging on the keyboard and must have hit a combination of keys that changed something. Now the desktop image moves around in the display as I move the mouse (makes me a bit dizzy). Any idea what this setting is and how I can restore it to the old setting?
    Thanks in advance.

Hello and Welcome to Apple Discussions.
As well as the ctrl key and mouse scroll as jlindh suggests, you can toggle OS X's zoom in  menu > System Preferences... > Universal Access > Seeing and turn Zoom off.

  • Trackpad is working very well but my usb mouse acts too slow and erratically?

I tried all the usb plugs and different types of mouses but it acts erratically and slow specially when i use couple softwares at the same time. Trackpad works perfectly even though i use couple softwares. Can someone help pls?

Your mouse must be the Mighty mouse and in that case the likely problem is the scroll wheel.  This tends to get clogged up with all manner of detritus picked up from a desk.  Here is a link showing how to approach cleaning it.

  • Why have my Logitech wireless keyboard and mouse suddenly become poky and erratic?

Hi, I'm running a new mac mini (Dec 2014) with 10.10.2 on it.  Out of the blue today my Logitech wireless accessories (with unifying receiver) became very sluggish with overall slow response times and at times the mouse is completely unresponsive.  It really was working just fine until today.  I went out and bought a new mouse to see if that would rectify it - and I still have the same kind of odd mouse behavior.
What's different between today and yesterday?  I installed Dropbox and the new Microsoft '16 suite.  I can't imagine that those two suites would impact a keyboard and mouse.  I even did a refresh of the O.S.  Any suggestions?

Thank you for trying to assist me Bob.  Here's my EtreCheck output.

  • Firefox 4 screen freezes and mouse does not click after it opens and clicks fine once or twice

I downloaded Firefox 4 for Mac yesterday. It worked fine all day. Today it opened fine. After one or two clicks of my mouse the screen froze and did not respond to any clicks or mouse movement. I have tried closing and reopening and also downloading Firefox 4 again. No luck. It continues to open fine, work for the first couple of clicks and then freeze. No other part of my laptop is affected. Safari works fine too. So I am guessing it is a problem with Firefox.

My McCaffee was a trial thing, I think. I clicked on it to see if it was updated, and it said it was expired. So I'm just going to uninstall it completely and install AdAware, which is all I've ever used for years and never had a problem.
It occurs to me -- this must (?) have something to do with my new computer... it was slow right out of the box, and I called ASUS tech support the second day I had the puter up and running, and the tech asked me to do a System File Check (SFC), but discovered that the normal pathways through which one would do a SFC (according to him) did not work - the machine would not either recognize them or it would simply swallow the command and then just do nothing... he put me on hold for a few minutes. He came back with a workaround (don't remember it exactly, but it involved a DOS prompt), and I was able to finally run a SFC, which revealed "corrupted files" that had to be "repaired."
In a brand new computer? That can't be a good thing... Maybe the system software factory install was just a bad install? Because I had some slow Firefox issues on my old machine (Acer, dual core, 4gRAM, 2009 machine), but NOTHING like this. This is getting very frustrating. I'm used to just sitting down to my computer and using it, not sitting down and fighting with it for 2 or 3 minutes or more before i can do anything.

  • Display Jitters with Mouse movement.   Any ideas?

Cinema 23 HD Display jitters with mouse movement.
This just started happening. I don't know what's causing it, but my display jitters back and forth with mouse movement. Left and right. As I move the mouse the screen moves two pixels to the right or left when I move the mouse. After 2 pixels it stops.
    Very irritating.
I don't have any extra displays to determine if its the card or the display.
Thanks in advance for any insight.

    Hi-
Sounds like you may have accidentally turned on "Zoom".
Open System Preferences/Universal Access. Turn off "Zoom", and things should be normal again.

  • On my Cinema Display the screen is blurry and shifts with mouse movement.

I have had this screen for a year and a half and only use it once a week in my remote office. This morning I noticed blurring on the screen and the whole screen shifts up/down, left/right with mouse movement. Please help. I am getting a headache.
    Thanks In Advance,
    Rob

    Press Command-Option-8 once or twice.
You have Zoom on. It is controlled in "Seeing" in "Universal Access" system preference, and by Control-Scrollwheel.

  • When safari is in full screen mode and I move the mouse to the top of the screen to bring up the menu bar and the bookmark bar, it does nothing.  Is anyone else having this issue?

    Thanks

I just tested that since I hardly ever use full screen mode, this was the first time since I upgraded to Mountain Lion, and it worked fine for me.
Try shutting Safari down and see if that changes anything.
If that doesn't change anything, try shutting down and then rebooting.

  • Capture border, mouse movements and screen area showing incorrectly

I'm using Captivate4 on Win7 Pro 32bit to record a web demonstration on IE8. Setting the capture area only records a portion of the selected area, and portions outside (and including) the red boundary line. Mouse movements and clicks are also off. I've disabled hardware acceleration and tried a few different screen resolutions.
This occurs in every recording mode and in every capture arrangement - application, predefined, or custom size. Full screen recording captures the correct area, but the slides are very large and cursor actions are still off. The border disappears when Hide is checked, but the area captured is still completely different from the area selected.
I've included screenshots of both the capture area selected and the actual area recorded.
If anyone can help, I'd really appreciate it - thanks in advance!
    Area selected for recording:
Area captured during recording - cursor out of place, overlap on the left, missing area on right and bottom:

Change your computer screen resolution to match what you set in Captivate, and you will capture everything.
I had to change mine from 1920x1080 (on a 13" laptop) to 1280x720 which is the maximum in Captivate. As soon as I did that, the entire screen was captured as intended.

  • The mouse moves on its own and the screen freezes and zooms in and out.

About 2 months ago I bought a new macbook pro and over the last couple of days it has produced all these problems!
The screen jolts and freezes and only has gradual movement and zooms in and out on a page and the mouse also freezes and moves on its own.  This usually happens when I am on the internet.
Its happened twice now where it works perfectly fine and then all of a sudden it happens.
Has anyone else had this before? Is it a virus?
Any thoughts or suggestions would be much appreciated!

My Mac air book screen automatic change and automatic open different programs during my working it's move its self and I lost my work and mouse pointer automatic dance. Help me to solve
    Any one can help me

Thank you for your response - I'll give it a go.
Also, just to update, my iMac cursor seems to glitch a little bit less now. It seems that at least ONE of my problems may have been caused by sitting my iPhone upon my WACOM tablet. The tablet must receive some sort of disruption from having my phone on it - and removing it seems to remedy a fraction of my mouse-jumping problems - if only for a meanwhile.
The mouse cursor still does jump around on its own occasionally, and the other mouse problems do persist - so this must not be the only culprit for my array of problems.

  • Myst V End of Ages

How do I make a disc image from Myst V End of Ages so I can prevent wearing out my CD/DVD optical drive and preserve the original game disc?
Myst V End of Ages has a copy protection installed. This protection is "very" robust and simply will not allow the legal owner of the disc run the software program from a disc image through the use of standard normal means of disc imaging.
This places the original disc at risk of being worn out and places unnecessary wear on the optical drive.
All previous versions of Myst allowed disc imaging.
By copyright law the legal owner of copyrighted material has the right to produce one working archive copy of intellectual property for personal private use and or library. Problem is, so many have abused this right that theft became a major problem for UbiSoft so copy protection was employed.
Without purchasing or utilizing some form of illegal piracy software or method, Myst V simply will not allow itself to be copied and always demands that the program be booted with the original disc in the optical drive.
Since the software is out of production, the legal owner needs a means to preserve the original disc.
After numerous attempts and numerous failures I figured out how to make the program run from a disc image without the need for anything but Apple system software. All perfectly legal.
It is so simple it almost hurts to define it.
    1. Make a disc image from the original disc.
    2. Mount the disc image.
    3. Put the original disc in the optical drive while the disc image is still mounted. (two Myst V images will be on the desktop)
    4. Launch Myst V.
    5. Eject the original disc from the optical drive.
    That's It!
Myst V will NOT launch with the disc image. It will only launch with the original disc in the optical drive.
Myst will continue to run with only the disc image mounted even if the optical disc is ejected.
You CANNOT use the disc image to make a working copy by any legal means that I am aware of but you can now preserve your original disc with minimal use and avoid wear and tear on your optical drive.
The game only requires that the program be launched with the original disc in the optical drive. It does not require that the original disc remain in the optical drive during use.

    Good info.
I have a complex flight sim, X-Plane, that does it a little easier. Launch, wait until everything loads, then eject the DVD. Like the Myst series, it helps to have a big hard drive. The folder contain X-Plane, its aircraft, airport and navaid databases, plus the geography of the entire world, needs nearly 7GB of hard drive real estate.
