N8 Transmit widget "Removed"

Hello,
one more symptom for the N8: by this evening I was trying to switch to screen two on my N8 and I got an error message: "WIdget removed".
First I did not know what to do with this, but when I saw that the Transmit widget is not there and tried to re-add, I got an error message: "Widget removed".
How can it be removed by simply using the device?
(current N8 issues: Ovi store removed, AGPS connects via incorrect access point, widget removed, contacts disappear from Exchange account)

Hi,
You can try reinstall back from here http://nmota.messaging.nokia.com/clients/Social_1_2_update.sisx . I did mine (also N8) & now able to connect to social (FB). Give it a try.
Cheers

  • Accordian widget inconsistent when pushing elements below

I am facing several annoying issues with the accordians on this page: Leather Interior Kits
I have searched the forums and in all related posts, no working solution has been offered.
In the top Accordian, clicking Leather content - it correctly pushes down the the Seat color section (text and a box) and the Seam style accordian, but does not push down the Add to cart and Back to products or any elements below it.
On the 2nd tab Seat style it behaves similar to the first tab but also pushes the description to the left down a little (which shouldn't be affected) and the divider and the below content (which should be affected but a lot more).
3th tab behaves the same as no. 1.
The is a hidden tool tip overlaying the Seat color tab (can only be activated by clicking the right part of the box. This element doesn't get pushed down either.
The 2nd accordian does not push anything down what so ever.
    Additional Info:
No scroll motion effects set on any of the relevant elements.
No elements overlapping (apart from the tool tip widget)
Removing the tooltip widget does not make a difference
No elements that are supposed to be pushed down are grouped (often a cause for problems)
Overlap items below is unchecked on both
There is an additinal tooltip widget overlapping the 2nd accordian (actually only in expanded state), that can be activated when Seam style is expanded (cliking Contrast dbl. stictching or piping) but removing this doesnt make any difference either.
Accordians and content are all placed on the same layer - the tooltips are placed on a higher layer.
This is design in progress, but i have wasted a lot of time trying to get these elements to behave correctly.
    Best regards
    Martin

    Hi Sanjit
Here is a much simplified version of the page showing the issue clearly.
    http://pushdownissue.businesscatalyst.com/leather-interior-kits.html
The accordian is the red framed elemenent - and when expanding ii does
not push down the Add to cart section, but the content below.

  • Captivate 7 Widget Copy/Pasting Text Creates Double Text

I'm using Captivate 7 on a Mac OS X.9 machine and every time we use a Insert>Interaction and have to paste text from either a Word doc or plain text document the text double pastes into the Interaction Widget. This causes issues because its difficult to edit text in the small widget area. Also, once pasted the Widget removes all the paragraph spacing.

We understand not to copy text from Word which is why we copy it from Word, paste it into a plain text document to remove all formatting, then paste it into the Interaction. It still pastes in double. This has happened in the following types and it is only a MAC issue. We can replicate it on two Macs in the office but not on any Windows machines.
We do use Full Screen but its still small and I have a very large screen.
Accordian, Tabs, Process Circle, Timeline, Circle Matrix, Pyramid (both), Glossary. These are the ones we have used/tested.

  • Can't Unlock FileVault

I logged in to turn off FileVault for the time being. When I typed in my password, the process started but then after 2 to 3 minutes I got the following error message.......An error occurred duing decryption.("An error occured during copying").FileVault will be turned on for the home folder and the home folder will still be encrypted......... After I acknowledge the message, the login screen comes up again. My password must still work since it accepts it and starts to unencrypt the data. Any ideas ?
    Apple Brudduh

Did this work? I had the same problem, and you are right - need to quit as many processes as possible.
I found that I had to have at least double the disk space already used as free disk. Shut down the computer and restart in Safe Mode (start mac while holding shift key). Now go into System Preferences and turn off filevault. If you get an error, go to the Console and select secure.log. Look for the most recent entry and go back to find the entry above the 'BOMCopierCopyWithOptions failed' message. This will tell you the file that caused the Filevault decryption to fail.
I found that by removing the application/file/whatever caused the failure, and re-running Turn off Filevault, I could get further into the decryption before it crashed.
Eventually I was able to unlock the filevault cleanly. Some of the things that were causing problems in my case were:
    Transmit Application (un-installed using CleanApp)
Document alias in Favourites folder (deleted the alias)
Other files (Removed files in user/Library/Framework)
Dashboard Widgets (removed all widgets from dasboard but did not delete the widgets)
iChat file (removed user/pictures/iChat icons alias)
I am not saying that you should do this as this related to my system. However the above are examples of the files causing failvault unlock failure. For your setup just note all files causing failure, save them with their location, and resore after filevault has been unlocked. Worked for me.
Restart system normally and test the applications/files affected.
    Hope this helps.

  • MacMini Duo Lockups

I just bought a new Intel Duo 1.6GHz Core Mac Mini with 120G hard drive and 2GB Dram all installed by the Apple Factory so there is no weird memory, etc. I also connected a 250GB LaCie drive underneath and bought a Apple monitor 23" Cinema. So this conversation is legally Mac, I think.
The system is locking up at many unexpected times. Going to set the Screen display locked up the computer, and going to different areas, like the Apple Drive Utility for reformating USB memory locks it up.
I am aware and understand you can't sleep a Mac with USB devices connected and you have to remove them save the keyboard and mouse to avoid the dead sleep but can somebody tell me if I should keep this machine or if I should abandon ship. I have 2 G4 Towers that are the noisiest critters in the world but they never lock up as I'm cruising the AppleSoftware.
On this Mac Mini I have MS Office Suite (Apple Version) and iLife and really nothing more.
Any ideas on stability and warranty. I did buy the extended warranty for the system but living with about 3 reboots a week due to lock ups is really not fun.
    Apple Challenged.

I have the same problem and its realy anoying me!
I tried almost anything (except that I was'nt aware that I should remove USB-devices and I have a USB wireless MS-mouse. I'll try it tonight, but I don't think it wil help.
I also haven't tried reseting the PMU, because I'm in the middle of a job and will test it as soon as i'm done)
This is what I have tested:
    Reset NVRAM
    deleted prefs in library
    rebuild permissions
    upgrade firmware
    upgrade Airport firmware
upgrade to all the lastest software from apple (thurs. 18)
    disabed Airport
disabled all sleepers in pref-pane (except screensaver)
    deleted startup-items and widgets
    remove Version-cue
tested to see if it was a temprature-fault (looked OK.)
Nothing works. I really feel that all I have left to do is test the PMU and if that doesn't work I'll return the machine to Apple...

  • How do I stop Dashboard from eating my processor?

Lately my fan has been running way more than usual, and independently of how much work I'm making it do. When this is happening, and I take a peek at the activity monitor, its always one of three "Dashboard Client" processes that is going crazy, not responding, and using up 99% of the CPU power. Is there any way to prevent this without having to kill the process manually each time? It happens a couple of times per hour, so it's really annoying. Also, does there really need to be 3 "dashboard client" processes running at all times?

The "Dashboard Client" processes are the dashboard widgets. Some run only when you open the Dashboard, some run in the background as well. It's a minor annoyance that under Leopard they all just show as "Dashboard Client" (under Tiger, the widget name showed in the process). However, you can select the process that's hogging the CPU, click Inspect, then click the Open Files and Ports tab, and the text there, you'll see the path/name of the widget (e.g. /Library/Widgets/Dictionary.wdgt/Dictionary.widgetplugin). Once you've identified the offending widgets, remove them with the Widget Manager in Dashboard, or see if there are updated versions that may run properly.
As a side note, also check the Kind column in Activity Monitor - I see this more commonly with PPC widgets. AirTrafficControl comes to mind as a widget that had this issue.
One more tip - rather than wait for the fans to spin up to tell you that your CPU is running full out, or leaving Activity Monitor open all the time, you might consider iStat Menus, a preference pane which places a CPU activity monitor (and other monitors as well, if you like) up in the menu bar.

  • How to improve client handover and roaming between AP's

Improving client Handover and roaming between APs
There are a few standards and methodologies available to use to improve handover of clients between APs. Most are focused on VOIP technologies, but it must always be remembered that we cannot control the client Handover (especially with legacy clients) we can only encourage them. Some Standards and methods work well for some environments and some do not - test the recommendations extensively before implementing in a live Production environment. It must also be noted that all settings take effect immediately once applied, however from a client perspective it might need to re-associate for the changes to take effect client side.
As with everything else in IT, if a perfect method/solution existed there would only be one - try them all and keep the best.
    The Standards and Definitions
    802.11k
IEEE 802.11k allows a device to quickly identify nearby APs that are available for roaming. When the signal strength of the current AP weakens and the device needs to roam to a new AP, it will already know the best candidate AP with which to connect to.
    802.11r
IEEE 802.11r specifies fast Basic Service Set (BSS) transitions between access points by redefining the security key negotiation protocol, allowing both the negotiation and requests for wireless resources to occur in parallel.
When a device roams from one AP to another on the same network, 802.11r streamlines the authentication process. BSS allows a devices to associate with APs more quickly. Coupled with 802.11k's ability to quickly identify the target AP, BSS's faster association method may enhance application performance.
    Handoff Assist
The AP monitors the RSSI for every associated client. If the RSSI for a specific client falls below "low-rssi-threshold" and continues to fall for the "rssi-falloff-wait-time", then the AP will send a de-auth to the client.
The de-auth is meant to kick the client away from the current AP and get it to re-authenticate to a nearby AP. This will have the effect of helping a client handover between 2 APs.
BUT (Big But), if the client gets de-authed and takes a while to re-authenticate (if it even does re-authenticate automatically after a de-auth), then this will have the effect of destroying communication instead of helping it -- mostly found with legacy clients.
    Remove Lower Transmit Rates
Removing lower transmit rates is a way to promote better roaming, BUT not all clients respond well, or even respond to it.
The practice is that the basic rates are a subset of the transmit rates. If you only want to allow speeds 9 and up, you would select only the transmit rates of 9 and up, and the basic rates of 9 and 11. If a legacy client expects the rates of 1 and 2 it will not connect.
    Local Probe Threshold
Local probe Threshold prevents a client from connecting to an AP with a too low a signal - helps more with initial connection than roaming.
The local probe threshold parameter is not supposed to force clients to roam as soon as they pass near an access point with a good signal, but rather to NOT hold on to an access point with a weak signal (avoiding sticky clients).
    PMK Caching
Defined by 802.11i and is a technique available for authentication between a single AP and a station. If a station has authenticated to an AP, roams away from that AP, and comes back, it does not need to perform a full authentication exchange. Only the 802.11i 4-way handshake is performed to establish transient encryption keys.
    Opportunistic Key Caching (OKC)
Is a similar technique to PMK, but not defined by 802.11i, for authentication between multiple APs in a network where those APs are under common administrative control. An Aruba deployment with multiple APs under the control of a single controller is one such example. Using OKC, a station roaming to any AP in the network will not have to complete a full authentication exchange, but will instead just perform the 4-way handshake to establish transient encryption keys
    Implementation and Configuration
    802.11k
802.11k is configured in your VAP profile. Tick the option to “Advertise 802.11k”. There after set the Handover Trigger Feature Settings.
Tick the “Enable Handover Trigger feature” and then set RSSI threshold by specifying the -dBm level at what the hand over trigger should be sent to the client
    802.11r
802.11r is configured under SSID of your VAP profile. Tick the option to “Advertise 802.11r”
    HandofF Assist
Station Handoff Assist is enabled in RF Optimization under the RF Management section of AP configuration.
Tick the “Station Handoff Assist” option to enable it, next set the Low RSSI Threshold – the threshold determines above what level no deauth gets sent
    Lower Transmit Rates
Transmit rates can be adjusted in the Advanced tab of SSID under your VAP profile.
Remember that the basic rates are a subset of the transmit rates. If you only want to allow speeds 9 and up, you would select only the transmit rates of 9 and up, and the basic rates of 9 and 11
    Local Probe threshold
Local Probe threshold can be adjusted in the advanced tab of SSID under your VAP profile.
Depending on the density of your APs consider values between 20 and 40 -- 40 being aggressive in an AP dense area.
    Deny Broadcast Probes
Denying Broadcast Probes can cause problems with Roaming especially if the SSID is hidden – leave option disabled.

Hi, thank you for the helpful guidance.  I have a basic question, if the device roam from one AP to another AP with the same SSID.  Is there a need of re-authentication given a) the network uses EAP based authentication; b) the network uses MAC address authentication.   If there is no need of EAP re-authentication, how the 802.11 keys are moved to the new AP.  Thank you very much if you could help me clarify my thought.

  • My imac won't go into sleep mode when set

I have an older iMac and even though I have it setup in the energy ptreference area to go into auto sleep in never does unless I do it manually?

I've checked through my apps, I can't seem to find anything that would cause this. For some apps that have internet access I've turned them off.
I tried going into Activity Monitor and quitting all the running processes, including those for Finder and stuff, most of these system processes starts up again. But even when I have quit everything that I can quit, the computer won't sleep.
I've tried disconnecting the internet, unplugging all my extras and shutting off Time Machine, but still insomnia. I've tried logging into the guest account but still insomnia.
I went to Macintosh HD>Library>Preferences>System Configuration and deleted the com.apple.PowerManagement and the com.apple.AutoWake.plist, rebooting and testing. But still insomnia. I've also deleted the User>Library>Preferences>com.apple.systemuiserver.plist file, and still no succes.
I've removed all the widgets, removed all startup items, and still no success.

  • NOKIA N8 bug: CRITICAL ERROR OCCURED DURING INSTAL...

i purchased my nokia N8 2 weeks ago, I found some annoyin bug on it. The Error message is this: "CRITICAL ERROR OCCURED DURING INSTALLATION. WIDGET REMOVED" Then all my customized homescreen has gone & it changes to the default home screen. It seems like if you have a lot of widgets & some of them are are connected online, the noka n8 is feeling exhausted It crushes when it cannot cope the memory exhaustion or somehow, i don't know. Any one knows about his? It happens to me many times, specially when i scroll sideways to different homescreen. It really makes me sick. I don't know if i have to leave the way the default screen is to get rid of that crush, coz i have done many times of changing. I have been a Nokia fan but this kind of bug is really fraustating.
    Solved!

It may be you have a faulty handset ? You can take it to a Nokia Care Point to have it checked out under the warranty. You could also try doing a reset and re-installing the software using Ovi suite before taking to a Care point.
Try backing up your contacts, calendar and note ONLY, dial *#7370# followed by 12345 and the phone will reset to 'out of the box'. Then use Ovi suite to re-install the latest firmware and then set up your phone and re-install any apps you want. If this doesn't work, you WILL need to visit a Care Point, and although it's a bit of a pain, it won't take as long as waiting for the phone to be repaired/replaced, worth giving it a try ?

  • Dashboard not saving preferences, I think?

So my problem is simple but I have not found a solution. When I open a widget, say Weather. It comes up with Cupertino weather. I put in my zip, it gives me my weather and I close the widget. If I re-open it instead of remembering my weather it gives me Cupertino's again. Its not just Weather. Transmit widget does the same thing. I'll put in my ftp server info, close it and re-open it to find it blank again. I'm sure other widgets that save prefs like that too would do the same thing for me.
This has happened ever since I erased and re-installed Tiger. I really would rather not have to do that again so if anyone has any ideas, please post. Don't be shy, I'll try anything before I have to re-install.

From what it sounds like, closing the widget is the source of your troubles..
The Weather widgets default to the location set for Time Zone in Date&Time System Preference (my default is New York, but I was able to change it to Dallas by changing the TimeZone)
It's not necessary to close the widget and really defeats the purpose of having them. When you open the widget, set it up with whatever settings you want, leave it. Everytime you pull a widget out of the Dashboard bar onto the screen, you are bringing up a new instance with whatever default settings the developer decided to give it.
If you leave the widget running and leave Dashboard set the way you want it, it should retain those settings even after logging out or restarting, but if you close the widget, you are reverting to defaults.
If the problem you are having is instead when simply hiding Dashboard, you could try trashing the preference files for the affected widgets from <username>/Library/Preferences/ Most of the widget pref files will be widget-com.<dev>.widget.<widgetname>

  • My iPhone won't go into sleep mode after bluetooth pairing

I've recently acquired a Parrot MiniKit Neo (a bluetooth remote dialer) and after I paired it with my iPhone 4S / iOS 6, this one does not enter in sleep mode anymore (the brightness of the screen down after 50 seconds and after 10 seconds more, it wakes up automatically instead to go into sleep mode).

  • E7 Resetting/rebooting itself

I have the random reboot problem with an added twist. Occasionally when it reboots the touch screen doesn't work and I have to manually reboot it.
Other interesting twist! Every now and then it brings up a message something on the lines of "error installing, widget removed" and then it looses all my home screen settings and messages. This doesn't appear to coincide with an actual reboot.
Due to the posts I have read on here I am loathe to do a format and reinstall. This started after trying to install the "Mobile Docs by Visiarc" - which didn't install and was the first time I got the above error.
Is there any news on a FW fix for the hard reset broken ROM thing?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

What you could try is the delete and restore function on your E7. This feature should not do the same critical thing as a hard reset. Be sure to back up your contacts, messages etc with ovi store first. Hopefully your device will stay on long enough.
Although, If it does not work out you should take it to a Nokia care point. Luckily I had one nearby and they used 1 day to reflash the device.
It could also be that your device suffers from a hardware failure which occured at the same time you installed the app.
I had to do the hard reset after my E7 refused to boot.
For the error message about widgets. I got that as the hard reset deleted much of the preinstalled content on my phone and some of the widgets which were in use. So when I started the device and the widget was still on, the phone would display an error message due to the fact that it could not find the widget which were supposed to be shown on the homescreen. Removing that widget/empty widget, made the error message go away. However, it does not sound like it's the same issue as the widgets should be there unless you have deleted those.
So, I guess we are talking about a hardware failure or the failed install of the app you've mentioned caused a severe corruption causing all this.
If the reset which you find in menu-settings-phone-phone management-factory settings does not work, I believe you will have to take it to a Nokia care point. As the fix for Ovi store is not yet released, I would not bother doing the hard reset as it isn't really a user approved action, and may result in that you will have to pay for the reflash.
I got it free as the was the only thing I could do after it refused to boot. - Which was an error within warranty.

  • Trouble with a ticket.

Here is my ticket dilemma and I am not sure what to do to fix.
    Preview book asset
IncompleteAll books must contain the full and complete text and must not be missing chapters, referenced indices, footnotes, or other content. iBooks Textbooks submitted in complete sets of individual chapters are acceptable.
The book that I have submitted for iTunes format is a children's picture book.  It doesn't have chapters, there is no need for footnotes, or in my option referenced indices...and I am not sure what other content means?  The book is intended for 3-5 year old children.  This is the only problem that reminds, the other problems seemed to have been acceptably fixed.  Not sure what to do or if there is a format that I need to use for a children's picture book that I am not seeing or unaware of...
Is there something that I just don't know that needs to be done?  The statement above for the preview book asset seems vague to me.
Any and all help in the right direction would be appreciated.
    Aaron.

    Hello Aron,
Thank you for your kind note.
I have discovered a myriad of unused, empty text box and shapes in my book. So I have been busy removing all of them. I don't know whether Apple are very strict on not accepting a book with one single empty text box / shape in it. But I am not going to take the chance.
Something else I found is that the title of the book on the cover page of my book is no longer linked to the book cover icon on the book pane on the right handside of the iBook author tool. I must have delete that text box and I can't seem to be able to re-create it. If you change the title of the book, you will see that the title of the book also change next to the book cover icon on the book pane....
Now the most frustrating is that since there were hyperlinks and widgets in my book initial submission, Apple wants me to correct them, and does not accept a new submission with all hyperlink and widgets removed. Basically they want the hyperlinks and widgets to work or else a book without the hyperlinks and widgets won't be published....go figure !
