N80 3.0617.0.6 Firmware

Hi all, hi Karim,
I know you locked the previous thread about N80 firmware, it was also a bit broad and started getting off topic (sorry for falling in that trap sometimes too).
As I had reported, I was going to get my N80 updated today to latest firmware and the service center did it in a few minutes. Of course I backed up everything onto my memory card, but I was pleasantly surprised to see that after the update, everything was still intact. Just a few settings had been reverted, but otherwise, all good.
The update (I had the original 3.0614.0.3 before) seems to have done some good. I've only had the update since midday but I havent gotten "Out of Memory" errors yet (despite trying), I havent tried using WiFi and the Browser so cant say if those errors are corrected.
Nonetheless, I feel its very very very slightly more sluggish than before. Maybe just an impression and a stressful day.
I'd like for this thread to remain active if possible for people to discuss about THIS VERSION of the firmware only and potential problems they are having with it.
Also worth mentioning, I don't have an Orange N80, its a provider-free phone.

This latest firmware RESOLVES THE PROBLEM OF NOT BEING ABLE TO SEND LARGE FILES TO YOUR MAC VIA BLUETOOTH!!!
Sorry for the caps.. but its been a plague of a problem
I just took a picture (1.1MB) and I sent it to my G5 via bluetooth and it DID NOT STOP at 263kb as it always usually did!
Hurrah!
As stated before: Please only indicate things that are resolved or dont work with this latest firmware!

  • N80 4.0632.0.38 firmware bugs.

Just recently updated my nokia n80 to firmware version 4.0632.0.38 (latest version) (optus - melbourne) and now im having problems with my phone.
One of the following 2 things happen but not at the same time.
Cannot make outgoing calls at all to any type of number.
Can make outgoing calls but cannot put the call on loudspeaker.
I have to turn the phone off take the battery out then turn it back on again and then it lasts about 5min then stuffs up again.
Spoke to nokia support and they said i have to take it to a nokia service centre to get it looked at, which im going to do but as he told me they can't roll firmware back to a previous version i dont know how they're going to fix it.
I've tried everything from setting phone to factory defaults, reinstalling firmware and removing memory card in case there is a conflicting file/app on it.
The operator on the phone said there is a possibility it is a hardware failure but i dont think so as it was working fine previously.
I'm sure it's software related because it has never done this until i updated the firmware.
Just annoying how i upgrade to the latest version to fix bugs and now ive got one of the biggest disadvantages of not being able to make calls at all.
Just wondering if anyone has had the same problem??
Just hope that if this turns out to be a software problem that it can be fixed asap and a new firmware update can be released.

i still believe the software on mine has got to be the problem because nokia have replaced my phone with another N80 and it still does the same thing!!!
i'm trying to tell them to look into it with software developers etc.. but im getting nowhere.
    This is a joke.

  • N80 Can't update the firmware

    Hi,
When I try to update my N80, NSU show 4.0632.0.38 as the latest update si it says that my phone is already up to date.
I got my phone in same time with two friends and they can update theirs (we are in france and we all have Orange operator).
How to update my phone please ?
Thank you in advance for your help.

Do you have the IE edition? I have the same thing and NSU says that I already have the latest one.

  • N80 new firmware release date and wishlist

It has been no update on firmware since the latest release V.5.0719.0.2 for N80 since 24 May 2007. With so many models rolling out and firmware revision released for other new and old models, one might wonder if N80 is being forgotten and the firmware revision is put on-hold forever in cold storage?!
There has been so much discussion on the expectation for last firmware release but what we get is only product stability without signficant boost of functionality and performance. I believe this has made many proud owner of N80 phone waiting with a long neck.
After reading through the forum, I have summarised some of the common expectation on the next release (hopefully) in a wishlist below. All is welcome to provide input on the improvement they expect in next firmware release. It is also hope that any status of firmware upgrade for N80 news to be shared here.
    The N80 new firmware wishlist
    i) AD2P bluetooth profile support
ii) Nokia Maps application support (currently, N80 is not support model for Nokia Maps application)
iii)Enhanced digital music player (similar with N73 ME with album art browsing)
iv) Music file IDD tag editing (change artist, song title, genre information)
    v) Video ringtone
    vi) Skype VOIP support
vii)Mymobilesite.net intergration for seamless moblogging interface
viii)Auto birthday reminder storing from Contact entry
Thats all I can think of for now.

    Hi Jacob,
Thanks for your quick response but if you go to the download section of Nokia Maps, N80 is not listed for selection on Nokia Maps setup file download. It is obvious that the compability page does show N80 is supported but which setup version to choose? I myself have Nokia Maps installed previously. But I believe there are new feature and interface in the latest version of Nokia Maps.
Yes, mymobilesite.net is available for N80, but perhaps the new firmware can include it in the new firmware release to save other the hassle to install
    something to add:
ix) HSDPA mobile internet surfing speed (3.5G?)

  • Possible bug on n80 v4 firmware?

Has anyone else noticed that if change the time settings in the clock from operator to manual or vice/versa it disconnects you from the network - only way to get it back onto network is to switch phone off and on again.

This bug does not occur for me. My operatore is T-Mobile in the UK. UK unbranded N80 on standard generic V4 firmware.

  • N80 Firmware changelog?

Is there a Nokia certified website or source where I can find a history of N80 firmwares and what changes took place in each one?
A changelog would be absolutely fantastic to help verify that new firmewares really fix observed problems.
Also, it could be used to check if I have the latest firmware (I know I could just hook my phone up and sync it, but I'd rather have a simpler method since I've seen the Nokia Software Updater program fail on me a lot hence I don't trust it).
Currently I have an N80 running 4.0707.0.7, updated just yesterday from the previous version.

Being a computer program and well familiar with embedded systems myself I was afraid the case would be that Nokia doesn't release the details of each firmware update. Honestly, I think that is a form of sort of "corporate programmer cowardice."
Regardless, you bring up another good point: N80 users certainly should NOT load the new 4.0707.0.7 firmware as it has some severe problems.
Just to help future searchers get this:
Nokia N80 4.0707.0.7 firmware is broken and bad, do not upgrade or load this firmware.

  • Nokia N80 move messages question

I was toying with my message settings a bit, and I found the option to change the location where messages are stored. I changed it to my memory card, but as I was doing that, I decided it might be best not to do that in case I switch memory cards or whatever. At that very moment I was presented with the question 'Do you want to move your messages to the memory card?' or something like that. As I wanted to restore the settings, I selected 'no'. However, I remembered one thing: all bluetooth messages were stored in the phone memory (iirc), which means I cannot receive big files on my 2GB card. As I'd probably not change memorycards anyway, it suddenly seemed a good idea to have my messages stored on the memorycard. However, when I select my memorycard now, I am not presented with that question anymore :/ The only thing it does is set the message storing folder to my sd-card, but not only that, it also only reads from that location. I cannot read any messages from my phone memory, and after switching back to the phone memory, I figured out I could not manually move them either. Does anyone know a solution to this problem? I'm using the 3.0617.0.6 firmware.

I think you'll only get this option once.
One way is, change the mem to SD card then connect the phone to your PC and it *should* move everything over for you.
Does for me when the phone crashes, forgets the mem card and I have messages in both locations!

  • The N80, T9 and a new message hint...

Good afternoon, and as usual, sorry if this question has already been addressed, but I cannot find much about it on the forum.
Basically, i'm currently on my first Orange N80 (3.0617.0.6)and to be honest, it's a love/hate relationship.
When the phone works well, it's simply the best piece of kit on the market as far as i'm concerned. However, the inability to answer calls sometimes, creates pure frustration (Phone just freezes with the phone symbol ringing, while my customers have been diverted to voicemail. Phone then requires a reboot).
I am also experiencing bizarre bugs which i've not seen mentioned before, eg: when receiving a text message whilst on a call, the loudspeaker is activated automatically and a 'beep beep' almost deafens me. Also, anyone around me can hear my conversation between the beeps!
Anyway, back to my original point. T9, and it's assumption of words you may use. I actually don't usually add words to the dictionary, as unlike my previous SE K750i, you can't review what's been added and remove the unecessary. My major gripe, is that INX comes before HOW, and has done pretty much since I got the phone. Is there anyway you guys know of, to ensure HOW is the first word that comes up? I've tried adding HOW again, but to no avail. There are some other words that do this, but they've currently escaped my memory... Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Finally, I just wanted to say that if some of you are still struggling to read the tiny writing font for messages, i've started using notepad to create and then send as normal. No big breakthrough, but it is an alternative!
    Cheers,
    Ed

One really annoying problem I've found just lately with my N80 is when answering an incoming call, the phone will not activate the loudspeaker during a received call - wierd. Btw, I'm on Orange with 3.0617.0.6 variant firmware. Can anyone (mod's included) give me a good reason why I cannot have the Nokia generic firmware flashed onto my phone, it shouldn't invalidate the manufacturers warranty and if Orange say their warranty is invalidated so what? We still have basic manufacturers warranty for 12 or 18 months or whatever it is. I've never particularly liked the Orange software anyway but I get superb reception evrywhere when at work where as o2 and Vodafone etc struggle for reception so that's why I stick with 'em.

  • Issues with N80. Need help badly!!

I got my N80 as a gift a week ago. It was purchased in dubai ( which is in the middle east). 2 days ago i transferred some files from my phone to the computer and ever since the next morning my phones been acting weird. applications close, its slow, battery life is really bad (like 5 hours), my signal bar and batter life bar disappear for a while and the phone powers off by itself. Today I removed the memory card and tried the phone and it seems to be working fine now and I am not having any issues. I am assuming and hoping that the card got affected when i was uploading the files from my phone and that there is no problem with the phone. I have been advised to send the phone back to the middle east to get it checked and possibly repaired. this is something I dont want to do at the moment because i like the phone and it will be a long time before i get it back. My question is if anyone else has had a similar problem, is it the memory card that is faulty and should I just get a new card or should I actually send the phone back to get it checked totally, in case its the phone that is faulty? also I have read that a new firmware is out. Can i get that off the net or it has to be uploaded at a local service centre ( which unfortunately is in the middle east again and not in Canada where I am at the moment)? The firmware on my phone is V 3.0617.0.6 and was updated on 03-05-06 RM-92 Nokia N80 (08). Is this firmware ok for now as I will be going to the middle east in december and can get it done then. Or should i just send the phone now and get the firmware updated and also get the memory card problem sorted out?

I have not experienced similar behaviour, but if you connected phone via cable to a PC and used the data transfer mode to move the files to PC, that equals to mass storage mode that shows the memory card as expernal memory in Windows Explorer and it is important to remove the phone then safely using the remove harware option in Windows, di dyou do that ?
If not, the memory card can get corrupted and corrupted memory card can mak the phone behave badly.
I would just go and buy a new memory card and then when connecting to PC always use the safe removal before disconnecing the phone.
Or install PC Suite, the´connection method is different and no safe removal needed.
I did use PC suite while transferring the files which makes it even more weirder. But yes i did not do that safely remove hardware thing. I thought that it wouldnt be needed since im using PC suite. do u have any idea about the firmware? should i get it updated now back in dubai or wait till i go back myself in december?

Your N80, has probably been "grey imported", and was not meant for the Chinese Market! :-(
Nokia Software Updater looks for the production-code of your N80, and installs/updates the firmware accordingly!

the latest Nokia N73 Firmware is a TRIAL FIRMWARE by NOkia...
    N73 v4.0723.2.0.1 (RM-133)
Becuase the v3.0713.1.0.2 firmware was released on NSU about 2 - 3 weeks ago n Nokia do not make firmware for each handset 1 month later n so on...
for example N95 it did not have firmware coming out straight away aldough N95 has too many bugs...
Also the v4.0723.2.0.1 firmware i can not download like others from my access to the site wer i have purchased the Flashing Box...normally i get all da firmware before dey added to NSU so therefore v4.0723.2.0.1 is TRIAL FIRMWARE u knw BETA from Nokia.
If dat firmware goes well dey gona change firmware for n80 n etc all into one wid all music player n so on features...

    to --> genesis
nokia have got so many complaints regarding to the N80 Firmware V 4.0707.0.7 & that was a BETA firmware so the Nokia Team would have to do less work by launching it to the public n then creating a new firmware fixing da problems.
Also I can back my theory up. for example I have a Flashing Box n access to the latest firmware before it is even released on NSU so therefore wen the N80 4.0707.0.7 firmware was released on NSU i could not get hold of it before it was added to NSU same wid this new N73 firmware...
Coz Nokia dont give Flashing Company access to BETA firmwares...so therefore they can not upload to the website for downloading,,,

  • N91 music player for n80

does any one have n91 music player in sisx file for n80. or will the next firmware of n80 will get a newer music player with stero widening and 8 band equalizer.
At last a nseries phone im truely happy with THE N82

    Hi indra_n80
    Sorry ,it is not possible,
I think it wont have it until nokia makes a serious effort on N91.
rEASON:tHE n91 is made by a special music chipset and the music player of this set is not available.
but you can go to www.lonelycatgames.com and try LCG Jukebox and believe me it has 10 band equaliser and has more functionalities.
And AFAIK if you install it and plug a 3.5 mm standard headphone it would be really awsome.

  • Notes transfer N80 to Outlook

I regularly write long notes (eg Meeting Minutes) in Notes and then transfer using PC Suite to Outlook 2003. This worked fine using my old 6260 but with N80 the notes become corrupt part way through. Anyone experienced this or found a solution?

@mikeclaark after assuming your problem I will suggest you to use Export Notes software (find here- http://www.notestooutlook.exportnotes.com). I’ve suggested it many other users and always I found positive feedback from them. I’m sure it will help you go for it.

  • Will nokia ever think about updating N80

    hi all,
I'm getting more disparate when i look at the updates for other phones in the RSS page.
every thing but the N80, i have the latest firmware but it has many bugs:
1-the multimedia key stops working after a while from restarting 2-the gallery is very slow to open specially in images and videos
3-the ram gets nearly full unless u restart the phone
4-the internet browser crashes big time.
5-the warning tones are so high and annoying.
SO PLEASE IF U R GOING TO DO ANY THING ABOUT IT JUST EITHER DO IT FAST,OR TELL ME TO THROW MY PHONE OFF FROM THE WINDOW.

Don't think there'll be many more updates for the N80 - it's too old already
Not that it would make any difference to me: I'm on Vodafone in the UK who are total pants at releasing firmware updates so I'm still on v4.0623.

To an extent that's a function of how big your card is and how many things you have on it - loading the details of hundreds of images/videos from a 2GB card can take a while.

That sounds like a memory leak - the most likely culprits are 3rd apps.
Try un-installing all of them. Then re-install 1 and try it for a day or so to see if it causes the problem. If it doesn't, install the next one, try for a day or so to see if that causes the problem etc until you find the app causing the problem

    Thanx

right, i had orange, it was mental, the branding is crackers, they should leave there phones be, but they wont and insist filling it full of **bleep** i didnt get it upgraded it was just a nightmare. with some network branded phones nokia wont able phones to be updated as something between nokia and the provider. sim free or unbranded phones have that option to upgrade , this is why some people are seeking to change the product code to unbranded/sim free to enable this fw upgrade... this however is illegal and will ruin any warrenty for the phone. also i did try this with my n70(orange again) but it messed up completely and was unable to upgrade full stop as the software upgrade couldnt find the phone at all. so be warned , if its a pre owned phone you dont know whats been messed about with it .
