N9 looks great - Why did Nokia go with Symbian 3 a...

I've had the N8 for a year now and I'm pretty tired of certain aspects of it while I really like some. my biggest gripe is the general slow and laggy performance of the device while I love the design and Nokia's great support for non major languages T9 support.
I would have bought the N9 if it had T9 support for Icelandic, the device looks and feels great and even though I like apps most of the are way overrated and don't improve your productivity so I could live with the limited offer on the N9.
What surprised me most is the great look, feel and smoothness of the MeeGo platform vs. Symbian 3 which looks like a badly suffering arthritis old man compared to to the fresh N9 look and feel.
Why on earth did Nokia push for the Symbian 3 and not MeeGo with Intel 2 years back?
So far google didn't turn out anything that seems have made that decision seem logical at the time.
Well I'm happy for those who have the N9, it's the best looking phone out there today and the best touch phone from Nokia so far and for sure more exciting then W7Phone.

What do you mean? Nokia has never pushed for Symbian with Intel (Symbian has been pure ARM, and not Intel, all along, as far as commercially available mobile phones are in question). The Intel cooperation was about Linux (maemo -> MeeGo) from the beginning.

Nokia N8 with Symbian Anna cannot add new maps

Hi,
Monday October 24, 2011, I received the new Symbian Anna software update for the NAM version. All my installs went correctly except when I try to download in Ovi Map to "Add New Maps".
I can't "Add New Maps" with the update from my device or throught Nokia Ovi suite.
The error message in Ovi Map from my device is: "Could not download list!"
The error message in Nokia Ovi Suite is: "Couldn't connect to the service"
" There seems to be a problem with connecting to the online map service."
"If the problem doesn't go away, please try again later."
Now it seems the problem to be not solve since because I still have the same message when I try again.
I would like to know what happen? Why I can't download new maps for the Ovi Map?

It happens, even with the new Nokia Suite from Beta Labs, atleast the Software Updater issue has been resolved, please see images attached for the error on both the Old Ovi Suite and the New Nokia Suite......

Why did nokia remove the 3d chip and IM messenger ...

hey when i use my nokia n96 and play 3d games it does not work which makes the n96 **bleep** and because of that when i play animations it lags to much and for what reason did they remove the graphics card for. one more thing is that they removed IM chip and VOIP chip which means i cant use windows live messenger or yahoo messenger or skype on it why did they do that for i thought when new phones come out they have more and better stuff but nokia are removing them things that actually need you to keep going on life. WHY DID THEY DO THAT FOR REMOVING THE CHIPS.

There's no IM or VoIP chips removed; IM and VoIP are software.

The 3D hardware graphics accellerator was not removed from the N96; rather the N96 is based on hardware that never had it in the first place.

Why did Nokia dumb down Nokia Maps with each new v...

I recently did a YouTube video comparing Nokia Maps to the GPS apps available on the iPhone AND Nokia Maps on Nokia N86 8MP.
The interesting part is that how many more functions does N86's old Nokia Maps have over the new Nokia Maps on the N8.
Lots of functionality has been lost, while all the other GPS apps got new functionality, Nokia Maps is instead dropping functionality left and right.
Why Nokia?

Oh, for sure I agree noone is pushing me, but the problem is... there's not a new-technology minimalist phone out there, as far as I know.
I want a C2-01.5 like I have now, but with a faster processor and more memory. Same size, a bigger (less edge margin) screen'd be nice, but whatever. A bigger battery and perhaps an even skinnier/smaller form factor. I want the OS to be super configurable and have options on top of options on top of options (and if it let me disable/hide the things I don't use - to reduce the clutter of the menus, I'd be in frickin' heaven!). Finally, I want them to put WiFi into this simple small stick. And the simplicity of the basic Nokia keyboard layout (with slightly raised keys {great job on the C2-01.5} that I can feel with my fingers) would be awesome too. If anyone can think of something like this described dream-phone, please do let me know. I'll build you a small temple and pray at it weekly. As far as it goes with this experiment, I'm sending the N301 back. And I had such high hopes!

Then there came a moment i did switch to another phone for a year, and later i did want to download some music from the music store, and moments later i saw that all my credits were gone
But somewhere in that meantime nokia has already Cashed my credit, because everything was from my credit disappeared

Why did my sync with my new phone bring in such old data from my apps

I recently upgraded from a 3GS to a 5S. Before activating the 5S, I synced my 3GS in iTunes. When I activated the phone and did my first sync with it, the data in all of my apps that store data was very, very old. I use Calengoo, for instance. The calendar that was imported to my new phone looked as if I'd last updated it in September 2013, despite the fact that I back up and sync that calendar regularly. My online google calendar was up to date, so I could rectify that situation without much effort.
I also use a reminder program called Due. The reminders that were imported were similarly the ones I'd had in the phone last fall.
I use Balance Pro to keep track of my bank balances. The accounts and information in that app are also very old.
I still have the apps and current info stored on my old 3GS. Is there any way for me to import them to my new phone so that I don't have to manually re-enter all that data?
As a side note, some of the apps on my old phone were not transferred to my new phone at all. Google maps and IMDb are the two that I recall off the top of my head.

Version 22 is too huge why did they mess with my settings when everything was PERFECT. Now I can't get FF back to normal.

Upon updating to version 22 the window stretched out and everything became HUGE.
Why on earth would you mess around with the size of the window and everything with in that window and make it look like it's for a person with a visual impairment?
Even going to about:config and changing layout.css.devPixelsPerPx didn't fix the size of the Menu Bar (which is too tiny). Yet everything in the window is HUGE.
Everything on this page is huge and can't even fix on my window.

It was totally unnecessary to do this. Everything was perfect, until this change came along. I petition to have this change reverted back to how it was in the previous versions.

Where is the refresh button and where is the bar at the bottom of the page that gives the loading status of the page? Why did you mess with something that was perfectly fine??

I updated to firefox 4 and it's not as good as the former version. There is no refresh button, and I use that a lot. There is no loading status bar at the bottom of the page and I liked the tabs BELOW the page address.

In Firefox 4 by default the Stop, Go and Reload (Refresh) buttons are combined and attached to the right hand edge of the location bar.
When you are typing in the location bar it will show the Go button. When a site is loading it shows the Stop button. At other times it shows the Reload button.
If you want separate buttons, right-click on a toolbar and choose Customize, you can then drag and drop the stop or reload buttons and place them elsewhere. If you place them in the order "Reload-Stop" on the right hand edge of the location bar they will be combined again. Why did updating software with PC Companion wipe all my settings and newly bought apps?

I have just connected my new ExperiaX10 mini to the computer and I dutifully tried to install the new software available following all the instructions. The final step (as far as I got anyway) was to disconnect it from the computer and switch it off and on again, but when I switched it on it only got as far as the Sony Ericcson start up screen. Not knowing if this was supposed to happen I reconnected it to the computer as instructed, but nothing happened. I had to force a couple of restarts to get anything else to happen and when it did eventually come back on it had went back to factory settings and I lost the applicaions that I bought a week ago. Is the update faulty and is there any way that I can get back my apps without having to pay again? I have no intention in trying to update it again. It was an expensive waste of a couple of hours.

On the apps, I think you should be able to go to the Android Market on your phone, go to downloads, and click on each one. You should get them back for no extra charge.
Not sure about anything you downloaded from elsewhere though...

Why does Nokia stick to Symbian ?

A year ago Nokia announced that the high-end smartphones ( N adn E series) would run Meego and the lower end (C series) Symbian.
But the N8 runs Symbian again and the probably as well as the screen size is 640x360. Meego or Android uses 800x480.
But the application support for Symbian is shrinking. Most smartphone apps cater to iOS and Android. I think when Nokis stiks to Symbian they'll lose a big share in the smartphone market.
Windows Mobile is also losing market share.
Why not Android ?

Why does NOKIA offers so unfinished product?

MY phone originally had a lot of nice ringtones, had no problems with anything i used, had an option of silent camera shutter and many more. Why did Nokia offered me something as bad as Belle?
Yes, it has some interesting features but has nothing I really need! I don't need that huge menu list with a lot of things I don't use and don't know how to uninstall if it's possible. I don't really need those six homescreens and icons I'm able to move! I wanted to TRY this softwared but didn't want no way back!

There is a camera shutter sound "off" option on my N8 Belle - but I need to scroll the list of sounds to make it visible.
For the rest of your comments I can assure you it feels just as awkward going from Belle to Anna, and it is way better for my blood pressure to commit myself to Belle, learning the changes and working around the troubles with the help of this forum while waiting for the fixes that will come - i.e. the small Qt stability update apparently sorted out the trouble with Sleeping Screen and so I can again impress the Android and iPhone users at the pub.

I used the phone for about a month with no problems at all, even had my apple ID in the icloud and everything... well ios 7.0.6 came out and I used my computer to restore the phone, because I feel that the cord and computer gives it a better restore, it did great no problems, and when it went to the part where I went to activate the phone, I get a enter your apple id and password to complete activation... Wait... why is this up i thought, I thought I did everything like I suppose to to succesfully switch it to me, the new owner... but now its asking for some C******@yahoo.com.... I only have @gmail.com emails and none start with a C... The guy sold me the phone because he was switching to Verizon, and I tried to call him, and now the number is disconnected... I guess he switched to Verizon with a new number... Now im stuck with a paperweight that costed me $200.00... What can I do at this point... Please help me...
