N93 - A truly abandoned product & an expensive mis...

I am well and truly appalled by how Nokia is treating me as a customer.
I bought an N93 back in November 2006. The phone cost me the equivalent of the price of a cheap laptop computer.
While the phone does generally what it says on the box, it is plagued by a number of bugs that I'm certain can be fixed.
For starters, the phone crashes extremely frequently.
Then, Nokia released a firmware update that forces the phone to go Black and White when filming videos in low-light conditions.
Nokia called this a "feature". It's far worse than the quality of video recording PRIOR to this update so I call it a bug.
The phone's picture-taking abilities are below par and certainly nowhere close to those of cheaper models with theoretically inferior optical systems such as the N73.
During the 6 months that I have had this phone for, Nokia released only ONE software update for it which worsened the stability of the phone (it's been crashing much more since then) and forced black and white recording in night-shot mode, so in actual fact, made the phone worse than it was when I first bought it.
To make matters worse, the phone has been gradually becoming slower and slower in its responses to button presses and menu navigations despite the fact that my Contacts list hasn't grown, ALL text messages are frequently emptied from the Inbox, there are no e-mails downloaded and no heavy files (such as pics, videos, games, apps etc.) are stored on the phone's memory itself.
All this would have been fine had I known that Nokia is doing something to fix the issues.
In all this time however, Nokia has kept its mouth shut in these discussion forums with regards to anything related to the N93 and has shown further ignorance towards that particular model by continuing to release and upgrade features on other models such as the N73 and N80 (added VoIP etc.) while owners of the more expensive and more buggy N93 have been left well and truly abandoned.
I honestly do not understand why more people haven't complained about this but I feel like Nokia has lost interest in this promising phone model and has decided to concentrate all its firmware development efforts on newer and more lucrative devices such as the N95.
All of this would have been reasonable had my phone been an old model. It's not even a year old though and the bugs it carries would in most cases only be found in pre-release bricks...
Speechless really...
What a neglect. I hope someone at Nokia reads this as I feel extremely disappointed and neglected as a customer.Message Edited by mantrac on 07-May-200710:47 AM

Well, i was very satisfied with my N93, and everything was fine, until i happen to install too many software and Java and flooded the Gallery, so it all starts to lag.
Then i decide to free it all up at one time, but also i thought, maybe it would be better to upgrade my firmware at one time, too.
So i erased everything, updated my firmware from 10.0.0.25 to 20.x.x.x, and what do i see?
Terrible, my lovely N93 has become worse, and many worse!
These are things that i mentioned ( which means they aren't all possible "features" ):
- in 10.x when you hold your multimedia key, you get a music player; that's awesome; but in 20.x it's replaced by some ugly "Download!" program, and cannot be changed;
- in 20.x when you turn your phone on, after loading it plays closing fold animation and sound, like i loaded it and then closed, very annoying;
- in 10.x, i could just open my second camera with one move of a finger: move a display to the right and then straight back; in 20.x the camera closes, well, maybe it's a good thing for someone who doesn't like to close the "big" camera after finishing shooting;
- the pre-installed Zip program doesn't ask you whether you want to open a file you downloaded, or you want to save it, it opens it instantly; and it can't be replaced by "normal" external Zip; very annoying;
- "data transfer" is replaced with "mass storage"; i don't see a sense.
All this makes me really feel ashamed for using an Nseries phone.
Those of you who have 10.0.0.25 - do not repeat my mistake!
NEVER update your firmware!
(more then 1300 photos? well, i've just checked, and i have 1817 photos made by my N93, and more then 90 videos)Message Edited by night on 01-Jun-200709:43 PM

I wrote all my posts from 2005-2011 as an "Admin" for this community. I still work for Nokia as an external consultant, so my rank in all posts is now "Employee".

just finnished now, seems ok now! may just be me but camera and everything seems to work , hope it's the same for everyone else.
    Well done nokia!
p.s. so would recommend everyone with the 20.0.058 version, to use the software updater and choose the "re-install" option!Message Edited by llaadd on 06-Feb-2007

  • Period end closing for production orders

    Dear all,
    what is period end closing???
Pl. enlist all period end activities for product costing by order scenario.
    what inventory adjustments are necessory.
what FI entries required to post??

With respect to PP- Period end closing is the procedure to close all the production orders and see that cost is flowing from production order to material
During period end - we TECO all the orders and see that production is complete from PP angle. Then costing will calculate over head/variance and settle the difference to production material or price difference a/c depending on the production material price control.
Just see below the example of a production and costing entries. Thi8s may be helpful to understand the concept.
    Planned price
    Planned Material cost = 115.15USD
Planned Activity cost = 6 USD
    Planned Over head = 25% of material cost+ 250% of activity cost = 28.79+15=43.79
    Total cost = 164.94
Product cost as per “S” price = 1 USD (example)
    After GR and confirmation
Actual Material cost = 7456.55 USD
    Actual Activity cost = 2USD
    Total cost = 7458.55
    Actual O/H  = 0
    Production variance = 7293.61 USD
    After o/h calculation
Actual Material cost = 7456.55 USD
    Actual Activity cost = 2USD
    Actual O/H = 25% of material cost+ 250% of activity cost = 1869.138
    Total cost = 9327.69
    Production variance = 9162.75
    After settlement
Actual Material cost = 7456.55 USD
    Actual Activity cost = 2USD
    Actual O/H = 25% of material cost+ 250% of activity cost = 1869.138
    Total cost = 9327.69
    Production variance = 0
Variance will be settled to Price difference a/c.
When we do the GR the FI a/c will hit as below
    Production order expense a/c -
    stock a/c +
When we GI the following a/c will hit
    Raw material a/c -
    Production order expense a/c +
    When we settle
Production order expense a/c + or -ve
    variance a/c = + or -ve
I hope this will help you.

  • PlayBook going forward from "formerly proud" owner of 3 PlayBooks

Like I am sure many current owners of the PlayBook, the announcement that the device was not going to receive BB10, nor any "significant" updates going forward was a major letdown. From the time I bought my first PlayBook in late 2011, I thought that this tablet had a bright future, with its awesome hardware, and despite at the time flaky software.
How wrong was I, and now I am left at a crossroads: Stick with the mediocre software selection in the BlackBerry store, the increasingly outdated browser, and the knowledge that my BlackBerry bridge will no longer work with BB10 devices, or bail on this product altogether?
I think if BlackBerry has truly abandoned this product line, they owe it to current owners to be able to breathe new life into the machine, and considering there will be no more development on the software side, free the device up to port another OS (i.e. Android).  HP did this with their failed Touch Pad, why can`t BlackBerry?
I still think that the tablet's hardware is very decent by current standards, it is just the software that makes it a mediocre machine.
    Do the right thing BlackBerry!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Agreed - Time to move on and go with a company that is serious about it's clientele. I kept two tablets for videos for my 2-year old twin boys, with one doubling up as an expensive alarm clock. The third tablet was gifted to my in-laws, who don't know much about tech anyway. Perhaps in a year's time, when Blackberry is history, I can keep them as collector's items...

  • A tale of two (or rather four) cities/perspectives.

The amount of conversation that has happened on these boards the last week has been nothing short of amazing. The passion, persistence and sheer love of what people do made it fun to read and watch, even when things would get slightly out of hand. It is why most professionals love what they do -- passion. When people love something, they take ownership of it, even if they had little hand in creating it. A company like Apple engenders a lot of this, because for the most part, it is the way they do business that makes the the perfect choice to use as tools to run our businesses and causes.
I have watched as diverse opinions, which in many cases came at odds centered around a product that most likely had never seen an ounce of the code, nor know any of the developers that made it come to fruition. Four distinctly different sides (in no particular order): the consumer, prosumer, professional and the apple fan. Each had almost an entirely different point of view, yet each one had their reasons and rights to weigh in on a brand new product.
Here is the coolest thing about all of this... Most companies would KILL for what has happened here this last week. How many companies truly have products that inspire so much territorial-like protection and social marketing? If this were a product from most other companies, little would be said. But, these are people that live to push their own limits, daring to dream and then pulling out the stops to make it a reality. I have to believe that this is exactly why no matter which side of the FInal Cut Studio argument they are on, each holds a reverence for both the former and the new product. They have let it become part of their lives, either professionally or personally, because it made a difference where other programs have not. This is a testament to just how good Apple can and does building solutions (when it wants to). When Apple does not live up to the level it has gotten us accustomed to, people feel like they lost out on what could have been.
That all said, here is what I have taken from the last week.
I was very, very much looking forward to a new pro-offering in the video market. Having seen them slowly let other pro-level programs and solutions fade over the years, I had hoped that this was so that things that Apple has historically been brilliant at come back to their full brilliance. Secretly, I had hopes that Apple was taking everything they had in Final Cut Studio, Shake, Logic and every other Apple talent and wrap it up into something mind-blowingly brilliant.
As a backup in my mind, I knew that we already had FCS and had hoped that if it did not deliver, at least we would get an upgraded FCS that actually for once took advantage of the hardware Steve and Phil have been telling us we needed as professionals for years. Can you imagine that something like FCS was still unable to utilize the resources of machines released in 2006? So, the idea of at least getting to see workstations utilized was a dream come true. Even if no new features came to the table, we would have a suite we could rely on and really start to flex the muscle of the resources we had invested so much in over the years. Most people think that to be a professional, it just takes buying FCS. In reality, it is thousands of dollars beyond that to get a complete solution, and in most cases, years to integrate and finesse everything to work to the level that when you see a feature film, television show, documentary or commercial, they look the very best they can.
What may seem like a bunch of whiners is only because we want to deliver our very best and when the toolset that is used is thrown away and the roadmap is blurry, at best, it lease us wondering what to tell our clientele, or how we are going to replace what we have to continue to be competitive in an ever changing environment. Now, imagine you have an entire facility built around that solution, with hundreds of thousands of dollars that was centered around a solution that just was "end-of-lifed." Imagine knowing that you will have to either add to or replace systems and now, you cannot even get the current version of the suite you were sold on as a long-term solution from Apple. Now, try to factor in how you are going to have to slowly find a more long-term solution and know that it cuts money out of the budget for raises, benefits or even outright salaries, just to keep a solution that the business needs for stability.
I think if you ask the professional on this list, it is not as much about Final Cut Pro X, as much as it is about the way Apple handled it. The complete disregard for selling on an enterprise-level solution, all while knowing that they were going to get out of the professional market altogether. It is a respect and trust issue at stake and not a software, nor even solution-based issue. If this is a move Apple needs to make, be open and honest, so that we have a chance to make smart business decisions that can be long term.
On the other side of the argument, I think that the prosumer market just got a heck of a nice tool for doing much of what we have built entire solutions to accomplish. They are slowly getting tools to make even the most mundane video project extraordinary. They really are the beneficiaries of the new software, and I look forward to how it inspires our next generations of videographers, motion graphic artists, editors, directors, producers. This definitely will be a tool that will help them.
Having said that, the way Apple handled the professional market was extremely unprofessional, at best. As a company with such an immense talent pool, resource and technical capabilities, and a marketing arm that rivals almost any company on the planet, I expected them to handle this much, much more appropriately. As professionals, we could not survive if we treated our clientele in this manner, so I am no about to continue to reward them with continued sales for solutions they clearly have little interest in producing. I am also going to remain a little more apprehensive when they come to me showing new large-scale solutions. While companies like Avid and Adobe have their faults, they generally do listen to professionals, and as a reward engender great customers. We also are not afraid to pay for solutions. They respect this (for the most part), whereas Apple thinks that only its opinion need matter. Final Cut was an amazing suite, in many ways because Apple collaborated with some of the best in the industry to make it do what was not just needed, but wanted and dreams about. That is where magic begins.
Steve, Phil, Randy... You let a lot of us down. You could have had FCS, FCPX and looked brilliant. You did not have to burn the bridges down. Or, if you wanted us to go elsewhere, at least had the respect to give us a head's up and some solutions to ease the transition. Instead, you simply didn't care, and still don't seem to care. Is this how you would like us to look at future Apple solutions? If you are going to abandon those that spend a good portion of income on end-to-end Apple solutions and watch you throw them away, what next is on the chopping block? If you want the respect of businesses, then you need to show businesses respect.

I haven't tried to find out the cause of this stir, only days after I purchased my home-use FCS/hardware package. If companies are trying to restrict the access to the technology it could only be to give interests like yours time to adjust. I suggest you do so quickly, since people like me now know the capabilities and pricing requirements of the technology, and we don't stand for bogus monopoly in the land of individual liberty.
However, I suspect Apple feels and acts with the same premises, and I know that's true for all the best companies, so I am looking forward only to the continuation of more and better solutions in the future.

  • Note to Adobe: Noticing much more problems?

I wanted to post an honest discussion with someone from the
Adobe Flash team just so we can guide the future of Flash for
version 10. I know it's still early and a long way from that as
most of us battle with our AS3 migration, but I wanted to add my
two cents for an honest discussion. I am hoping some honest Adobe
Flash team members can engage us in this as well.
First of all, I have been a Flash designer / animator /
programmer / teacher since Flash 2. Macromedia bought FutureSplash
and released Flash 2. I have been with it all the way and love it.
It has always been the best tool for me as a visual person who
loves to put things together. It allowed me to be both designer and
programmer. I have always loved it even with the difficulties of
some of the progression of ActionScript such as the move to AS2.
But I have to say the AS3 migration from those who have been
in the Flash camp for along time leaves me baffled. I understand
why AS3 is completely new. It has to leverage Flex and had to be
built around a whole new Virtual Machine in the player. I am amazed
with what the team has been able to accomplish; however, the
differences between AS2 and AS3 are too different and haven't
properly been structured and documented from the designer's
perspective. Designers pushing the boundaries of what Flash could
do is what made Flash a popular player in the browser. Each step of
the way designers have had to make way to programmers coming over
from other languages. I have no problem with that, but each step
takes things away from designers and animators in order to give
programmers their way of understanding. This is a slap in the face
to those who have helped make Flash a truly universal product. I
don't think any designers have a problem with programmers jumping
on board, but things shouldn't have been taken away along the way
for those who were very comfortable with the Object Orientation of
Flash as it was. Flash has always been Object Oriented. Remember
when Macromedia took away "Normal" vs "Expert" scripting mode and
how pissed some people were? The change to AS3 makes that look
    juvenile.
The reason I start this thread is not to attack Adobe. I just
would like to start a good discussion to see if we designers can
add something to the next round since things have been taken away
from us. I give you this example. The foundation of good Flash
projects (not gaudy long intros....I mean honest, well-thought out
projects that preloaded some parts and got ready to play with
enough data) was usually built around loadMovieNum. The analogy of
levels and layers was the foundation of every good solid project.
    That has since been replaced with the DisplayObject.addChild();
functionality which is fine. I am not questioning the usefulness of
that. However, the exact foundation of all versions of Flash up to
version 9 has now been taken away. Can someone from Adobe answer
why things were taken away? Also, can a similar analogy be
implemented into Flash v10? If not, why not?
Any other examples anyone else wants to list? Go ahead, there
    are plenty.
Once again I will state that I have no problem with AS3 and
willing to learn it. Most of my projects are being converted and
new projects are built around it. I just find it silly that I can't
    simply build a class that tells the main timeline to simply play();
using root or parent as a timeline itself. What Adobe has forced
the long-time users to do is move backward and learn their product
all over again from scratch by taking things away thereby canceling
the years of experience that we all gained since 1997.
Have there been any discussions at Adobe about how to help
bring designers back into the discussion of Flash and how best to
ensure the Flash IDE maintains its visual approach for those who
    choose to work that way?
There are many more points I can discuss but I don't want
this to be any longer than it needs to be. And I know there will be
many programmer types who don't understand and try to flame me. I
just hope there is an honest discussion of how to ensure the
knowledge built over the years does not have to be fully
    abandoned.

    RDcollege,
I'd like to echo bnailWedge's encouragement to keep your
    chin up. I
don't think your post sounds like an attack, which (to my
    thinking) is a
great way to invite constructive input and useful discussion,
    so let's see
who else weighs in on this thread. :)
We all come from different backgrounds, so it's hard to give
    assurances
to everyone. Personally, I came to Flash with an English
    degree, a love for
multimedia, and enough natural artistic talent that the
    notion of a Flash
career wasn't patently out of the question. ActionScript was
    difficult for
me at first, but I wanted so badly to make things bounce
    around -- without
the constraints of the timeline -- that I was bewitched into
    trying again
and again (and again and again) until, after years, concepts
    started falling
    into place for me.
I'm enough of a nerd (ask my wife!) that, somehow, I've
    managed to teach
myself programming to a degree that I now consult and develop
    full time. As
    a kid, I wouldn't have thought I'd be a programmer one day,
    but I'm glad
things have turned out as they have, because programming
    helps me accomplish
what I want from a design standpoint. I remember what it was
    like to learn
this stuff -- as Macromedia kept rolling it out! -- and that
    helps me
empathize with your post. I'm not a computer science
    graduate. I don't
have any background with Java or C, which means I'm not the
    sort of person
at which Flex is aimed. I like Flex Builder well enough, I'm
    still firmly a
Flash dude, and I don't see myself changing.
I remember when Flash MX 2004 dropped Normal Mode, and I
    remember the
outcry. I also saw that feature resurrected (in somewhat
    different form) as
Script Assist in Flash 8. It's still present in Flash CS3,
    just not as
useful (my opinion) when used with ActionScript 3.0. But
    frankly, how many
people truly put together a complex project -- like you were
    saying,
"honest, well-thought out projects that preloaded some parts
    and got ready
to play with enough data" -- in Normal Mode? Complex projects
    get easier, I
think, when you can type the code in yourself.
    > I just find it silly that I can't simply build a class
    that tells the main
    > timeline to simply play(); using root or parent as a
    timeline itself.
This part piques my interest, because the main timeline in
    an
ActionScript 3.0 document is, by default, a subclass of the
    MovieClip class.
You can optionally write your own document class to extend
    Sprite instead,
but as a MovieClip instance, the main timeline indeed
    responds to movie clip
methods such as play(). Can you provide more detail?
One of the examples I generally discuss when talking about
    AS3 is the
way event handling has been simplified. Prior to AS3, there
    were a boatload
of ways to handle events, everything from on() and
    onClipEvent() to their
dot notation replacements (onRelease = funtion():Void {}), to
    addListener()
    (Stage, MovieClipLoader, Mouse) to addEventListener
    (components). To
someone growing up on Macromedia, each new approach was a
    relatively small
tool/burden to add to the arsenal -- but to new a newcomer
    ... good heavens!
Why should there be so many? Which approach to use where? In
    AS3, almost
eveything (with very few exceptions!) is addEventListener().
Colin Moock wrote an article recently that speaks to this
    topic and made
a lot of sense to me. I think it may give you some
    encouragement.
    http://www.insideria.com/2008/01/actionscript-30-is-it-hard-or.html
For what it's worth, I'm working on a new title for O'Reilly
    that's also
aimed at this topic. I wouldn't be surprised at all if other
    publishers do
the same. As kglad mentioned, you can always submit to the
    official feature
    request form.
    > Any other examples anyone else wants to list? Go ahead,
    there
    > are plenty.
When you mentioned this, you were referring to levels and
    layers, hoping
a similar analogy would be implemented into Flash CS4. Levels
    are gone in
AS3, true, but even during the loadMovieNum() days,
    loadMovie() allowed for
content to be loaded into a movie clip instead. To me, that
    puts the idea
of movie clips and levels into the same category (and in a
    sense, they were
the same thing). Is that really so different from the current
    display list
metaphor? The display list is still hierarchical. Layers, of
    course, are
still present in the Timeline panel, so those haven't
    changed.
If you list other specifics, I'll be happy to discuss them.
    Not sure if
I can make them seem useful, but I'll try. :)

  • Mess caused by upgrading to Photoshop Elements 13

I have just upgraded from Photoshop Elements 12 to Photoshop Elements 13 via download.  I am not impressed.  First I had to or was directed to use a download manager of Japanese name!  With 50Mb cable broadband I don't need this, but the alternative seemed to have 2 files.  So I went with the provided download manager.  But this has put a folder on the Desktop - bit messy in my opinion.  Fortunately after download it is not needed to run 13.  (But why didn't the installation delete or make it clearer that you could put it else where??).  I now have Photoshop Elements 13 installed and it runs fine.  BUT I also have Photoshop Elements 12 which also runs.  There is not point in having 2 versions on this PC.  But when I look in the Control Panel un-install route I can only see Elements 13.  I can't find or see Photoshop Elements 12 listed, but this older version is present and I can find all its folders on the C directory program files area!! So how can I easily and cleanly remove Photoshop Elements 13?

Thanks Angryuk.  I have sent an Email to the CEO.  Here is what I sent.  It might encourage other Adobe users to push for better and more professional support even if the app PSE12 is only one behind!!!
    Dear Sir
I was a regular home user of Photoshop Elements 12(PSE12) having purchased it by upgrade on
7 Oct 2013 (S/No: 1057-1302-7331-8029-4210-6039).  Then when I was powering up this application it said that Photoshop Elements 13 (PSE13) was available for upgrade on special offer by download.  So I purchased PSE13 on 13 Oct, 2014 (S/No: 1057-1314-3452-2773-6251-9919)
I realise that most software suppliers will not support old versions so on important packages such as PSE I always upgrade so that I am on the latest version.  (Also means I am a faithful customer of Adobe).  Most software companies will support the last issued version even though they have just upgraded.  They will eventually pull the plug but not for a short period following an upgrade/re-issue of software! (But Adobe doesn’t appear to follow this convention from my Help Web CHAT calls as you will see).
When I installed PSE13, I finished up with both PSE12 & PSE13 on my PC, both fully working.  However I couldn’t see the point in having both on my PC.  After if you only support PSE13 better to be on that. If there are any bugs in the new software, I will trust that a company of Adobe reputation will issue fixes in due course.
So I went to un-install PSE12 via the correct Windows Control Panel and un-install provided to un-install software cleanly.  But only PSE13 appeared but no PSE12, even though it is a fully running application.  So I used your Adobe Web Chat connection as I do have an Adobe account.  The first Chat was as follows:  (Your case number: 0185994907);Chat start time: Oct 13, 2014 7:55:56 AM; EST; Chat end time: Oct 13, 2014 8:46:33 AM EST; Duration (actual chatting time): 00:50:37; Operator: Rashmi. Brief details of the call: Rashmi: In that case we need to uninstall it manually ,
Graham Marriott: Do you not have a manual un-install program that I can download. Many  software companies have a program you can run to remove and clean off their programs!!
Rashmi: No we do not have any program Rashmi: http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop-elements/kb/manually-remove-photoshop-elements-12.html (Tech note to manually remove PSE12).  I tried this but I cannot delete the PSE12 folder because it says in that it is use.  But I have stopped all Adobe services.  So used Web Chat for second time.
Chat start time: Oct 13, 2014 9:12:10 AM EST; Chat end time: Oct 13, 2014 10:41:06 AM EST
Duration (actual chatting time): 01:28:55; Operator: Honey Razdan.  Brief overview is that Honey took control of my PC (Honey Razdan: Please visit my virtual room at: so that I can check your computer to uninstall PSE 12.  But she couldn’t un-install PSE12 and it was taking ages for to delete even one folder!  The connection became broke to this chat.
So I tried again: Chat start time: Oct 13, 2014 11:06:07 AM EST; Chat end time: Oct 13, 2014 11:25:25 AM EST; Duration (actual chatting time): 00:19:17; Operator: Aditya Jha; Aditya Jha :        But I can help you only with Elements 13 products; Aditya Jha :    We do have people on forums to help you.
So I spent a whole afternoon (3.5 hours on chat itself) to try and solve this problem. The message I get from Adobe is that you do not support PSE12 but only PSE13 which you have only just issued. Rather than provide a professional support on a just upgraded version you pass the responsibility to the Adobe Forum to try and help me solve the problem.  It is true that most Forums are brilliant with many fine engineers.   But I feel a company like Adobe should provide good technical support and I don’t feel that is what I am receiving.  Your graphic products in comparison to other similar products are expensive.  Although I recognise that they are high quality and functionality.  But this whole experience has left me somewhat disillusioned with Adobe.  I feel that I will never be able to delete PSE12 even though I am ex IT engineer and quite capable of administrating a PC.  I look forward to a reply from Adobe that will restore my confidence not just in your products but in the service you provide.
    Yours Truly

  • Every time Photoshop CS6 is updated it loses the ability to process RAW files

I have had no trouble with PHotoshop CS6 for several years. Then I bought a copy of Dreamweaver CS6, which on installation destroyed all records of every other Adobe product that I have. It also stopped Photoshop CS6 from handling RAW files. So I reinstalled them. All of them. And then they could see and process RAW files again.
The Adobe Updater got to work after the next log on, downloaded a huge bolus of software and now Photoshop cannot handle RAW once again. This is truly annoying and becoming expensive. Has anyone had a similar experience?
I note that teh Dreamweaver product is not listed on my registered product list here on line, and when I tried to register it, the system refused, saying that it was registered as a part of a 'systems purchase', or some such. I bought it as a download from an on-line retailer.
Widgets: Win7 64 bit, 16 GB, dozen processors, NVIDIA2000W, top end screen.

That certainly sounds like bogus software. I'd get rid of it (and do a clean reformat/reinstall of everything in case it has planted some malware in your system).

  • Source of Buzzing?

I occasionally hear a buzzing sound from my monitor or through my speakers (internal monitor speakers -- SyncMaster 2494HM). I've noticed this happening sometimes when I set the background to a non-Apple background. It also happens when I log into console-mode. At the same time, the screen gets a bit darker, so that in console-mode I can barely read the text. The buzzing etc. doesn't go away until I remove the background or re-log-in. Once the buzzing occurred everytime anyone logged in, but while on the log-in screen itself, there wasn't any buzzing. I haven't tried attaching another monitor to see if the monitor is the problem, but it does seem strange to me that the monitor could react so selectively. Does anyone know what the source of the problem could be?

    Jason Piper,
How coincidental is it that you, with your heightened ability, just gave me the rating that gave me my third bar on the Apple Discussions? I thank you from the bottom of my heart, because that's the last I'll ever get, and it meant a lot for me to get it.
Ego purged, let's get down to business...
You truly do have a heightened sense of hearing. Most everyone who gets one of the new MPs says it's the quietest Mac they've ever had. And my feelings are the same. You hear everything going on though, that's something,...
Well, it's a new machine. You owe it to yourself to have it checked out. It's certainly not impossible that the PS is louder than usual because of some kind of defect.
Rather than go on wondering, I'd get it looked at myself. But if they say it's normal, what do you think you might do? Maybe a white sound device? Would something like that drive you crazy?
Maybe just extended cables so you could put some kind of barrier between your ears and the PSU? It wouldn't have to be significant, I don't think, if you only wanted to mute the sound some more, perhaps a heavy blanket, and leave the disk tray facing you or available with the rest concealed.
All in all a very interesting dilemma, and the first of it's kind I've ever heard here. I'm sorry I can't be more helpful, but I do wish you all the luck in the world in figuring out a way to be comfortable around your Mac. I've actually been in your shoes, pretty much abandoning a very expensive G5 that was louder than I could think. It was awful. I don't think you'll have to give up your Mac though. Maybe it just needs a thorough going over to see if anything is wrong, or because of your special ability, a special way to deal with the sound.
Good luck, and thank you, my friend.

  • Optical drive scratching new dvd's

I bought my macbook (black) back in June while on vacation and was able to watch a dvd on it in the airport on the way home. When I got home and watched another dvd I noticed it was scratched after watching it. I wasn't sure if it was already scratched or not, so I put in a new dvd and the macbook scratched it to the point it wasn't able to be read anymore. I took it in and they replaced the drive. Since then I have had another two disks get scratched, both of them new. I took it back in and had the drive replaced yet again. I just started watching another new movie and I heard a funny noise so I ejected the dvd. Again it was scratching the disk. I don't understand why this is happening. Any suggestions? (Yes I know I am a slow learner, but I keep hoping that a product this expensive won't eat dvd's.)
I don't know how many times apple is willing to replace an optical drive. Like I said, this is the third drive I am on. I have had my computer in the shop more than I have been able to use it!
black macbook   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   2 GHz intel core duo, 512 MB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
      Windows XP

I have heard that moving the laptop will make the scratching worse. I could accept that as the cause if I was actually moving the computer when it scratches the disks, but that has not been the case when mine have been scratched. I don't understand why it scratches in the first place. Cars have cd and dvd players in them all the time and they don't seem to have those problems.

  • Nokia N95 8 Gigs "The Phone that got forgotten"

    Dear Nokia Support,
After I have bought this phone, I was not as please with the price and over all service that I have received from Nokia. I didn't care that it was expensive, but the service... Lets me begin where I have bought this phone for over 24,500 baht (Central World Power Buy, Bangkok, Thailand) [new copper color, N95 8 gigs]. I've bought the phone for the look, services, GPS system, but I am sorry to say that I didn't get any of that.
Lets start from the back; the GPS system. It takes so long to get the sat. lock, not even counting the time to calculated route, I was confirm with the Nokia Customer care that it will be resolve when I upgrade the firmware to 20 something. Unfortunately, when I have upgraded my phone, the phone act very weird and GPS function take even longer than it was before; even with the aids of GPRS where it should have taken only a few mins if not less. It would taken over 5. (this function become obsolete for me, as it is not helping me in anyway)
Secondly, as it was claim on the website of Nokia that Nokia have the best Care service. It was not for me, at first it was ok, as I was in the shop to get my phone firmware update, i got premium services and being taken care off right way. The reason that I was in the shop the first time was because I was using the Windows Vista at home, Nokia Care software was not support it (talk about up to date??) The second time however was different (MBK, Bangkok, Thailand) I didn't show my phone like the first time, I simply told them that my phone need fixing. My N95 screen went blank all of the sudden, I could make call normally but I could not see anything on the screen. One of the customer rep. told me that it would take 3 hours to fix the phone. So I was very please that I was being taken care off. Before I am going further, I would like to add that I have only use this phone for little over 3 months, I have never drop the phone or expose to any wet condition, and I have always keep the phone in the leather pouch that I bought for it. Now, back to the story. One of other rep, came over and told me that she could not find me on the system and I would need my recipt to get my phone service... (wait.. I bought this phone to 3 months, yet already have service here once.. and I still need a recipt??? I was very **bleep** at that point as the way they are saying that I would not get my phone services for I have not have my recipt... eventually she went to the back and finally saw me on the system. At that point she gave me a different answer than the rep. that he was handle me before, she said this phone need to be send to the center and it will take over 2 weeks for it to be fix. After argue for a while, she said that she will need to ask the tech. and she got back to me and say that she will have the tech. try to do something to the phone (I guess replacing some hardware) for 3 hours and she will either get back to me or I have to come back in 3 hours. After 3 hours has passed, I came back to the Nokia Care Shop and ask for the status of my phone, and found that they were waiting to talk to me about the phone. She said the phone have some water stain inside, and it will not be handle by Nokia as it is void the service agreement (well, my phone have not been anywhere near water or drop anywhere, the only reason this happend is only maybe from the my sweat.) and it is going to cost me over 2,200 baht to fix the phone as water mark void the service agreement.... well my phone was void because of normal use.. and it has only been 3 month. I guess Nokia is not for me, as I can't even sweat when using the phone. and I am not talking about a lot of sweat either, because my office is always in the air conditional Building. It was not as bad if she have called me faster to lets me know this other than letting me hang around for 3 hours and ask for the status. Now I have to wait 2 weeks. This is what I got from the best of service care in thailand. Furthermore, I know I could have just walk to the other end of the mall and get my phone for maybe half the price and possibly in less than an hour. Maybe I was stupid....
That was it, maybe it was my mistakes to even pick this phone from the begining, it wasn't cheap, changing it to a dollar is over 700 dollars phone. I was left with no choice, the phone is in parts in their hand. In order to fix my phone I will have to pay for the repair... or else I would just lost that 24,500 baht that I have just invested on the phone for merely 3 monthes. I will mark that Nokia is not for me and I will never buy anymore of Nokia Product. Expensive yet not user friendly. As soon as I got my phone back from the service, I am just going to sell it.
    Soravis,
    very disatified customer of Nokia

    Check these:
    (1) Phone software version - v20 and up have better GPS handling than earlier versions, if you have earlier than that then update.
    (2) Maps application version - if you have v1.2, update to v2.0 (this version will be inbuilt if your phone can update to software version 30 anyway) - this version is much improved.
    (3) This model has its GPS receiver positioned beneath the keypad, rather unusually, so make sure you have the slide open when using GPS.

  • How to make a backup of last week's iPhoto library from Time Machine

I'm sure this should be obvious to me, but rather than struggle for another hour I thought I would engage the brain trust here.
I'm using iPhoto 11 ver 9.4.2 and Mountain Lion 10.8.2 with MBP and Time Capsule.
Last week I added a zillion photos to my iPhoto library as I was combining the photos from several PC hard drives.  Of course this gave me a 135G iPhoto library and a million duplicates.  So over the holiday weekend I've been using PhotoSweeper (a truly fantastic product) to tune up the library into what I want it to be going forward.
But as I've been deleting all the duplicates, I've suddenly had the urge to save the original bloated library as sort of archaelogical record of every digital picture I ever had.  So I want to go back via Time Machine, find the library as it was last week, and save the library to an external drive.
It looks to me like I'm going to need to "Restore" the old library to access it via Time Machine.  And then export or save it to the archive hard drive.  Right?
But how will I get back to my new, carefully culled iPhoto library?  Will I just go back to Time Machine and "restore" the iPhoto library from today?
I don't want to make a big mistake here!
Also, why is my iPhoto library getting larger (now 150g) even though I have deleted (and emptied the iPhoto trash) thousands of photos?
Thanks for any help you can offer!

There  have been mixed reviews on Photosweeper - I have not personally used it and recommend one of two known programs for duplicate identification -
    Duplicate Annihalitor - http://brattoo.com/propaganda/ - or Decloner - http://www.pixelespressoapps.com/decloner/
The face that your library is getting larger not smaller indicates that something is amiss
As to TM questions for detailed answers the TM forum is best - basically you launch TM, go to the time you want, select the iPhoto library, click restore and when ask if you wnat to keep both say yes and place the newly restored library in the location of your choice
See http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1427 for instructions on TM

  • Can any one believe this tech support trying to delete legacy adobe apps!!!!!!

Vipin: May I have your permission to connect to your computer remotely and try to solve the problem while you watch?
ADOBE CUSTOMER: I need to know that NONE of my legacy adobe apps will be affected. CS5 suite and CS6 products will NOT be affected is that right??????????????
info: Your chat transcript will be sent to dixxx.net at the end of your chat.
    Vipin: It will be affected.
ADOBE CUSTOMER: WHOA! you are saying that my CS% and CS 6 apps will be hurt and not run correctly is that right?
Vipin: We need to remove all the Adobe apps installed on your computer.
    Vipin: Is that okay.
Vipin: May I have your permission to connect to your computer remotely and try to solve the problem while you watch?
ADOBE CUSTOMER: There is no way I give permission to delete CS5 creative suite, CS6 video production suite or hurt them in any way what so ever. I have THOUSANDS of dollars of plugins and other workfow products that depend on them. Sorry but my only recourse is to
ADOBE CUSTOMER: see if you have ANY loyalty to an OVER 30 years adobe customer (me) when you demand payout for the remaining 5 months of the subscription. I'm betting you will just send the bill to collections for non payment. If so, you WILL be sued for non service and non delivery of product. And yes, I am ready to spend over xxxx on a suit vs adobe because of how you have treated me. The point is I know that I am not alone, and that's sad.
Then customer service has the gall to ....
    ME:
    1) First I need a credit for $10.81 for months October, November, and December of 2014... and January of 2015.
    2) Second I need my subscription extended at the SAME price for ONE year WHEN I START A NEW SUBSCRIPTION upon new releases of the photography CC bundle. The current one does NOT install correctly on a purpose built computer to handle Video and 3D processing. I will not tolerate you deleting legacy products that go back to CS3 and newer that I depend on to pay my bills. The forums are full of folks with the same install problems for CC 2014. That is one year free for the extreme hassle and loss of time productivity, travel expenses, and monies due to being forced to use my standalone
PS CS6 products for core work and another copy of the CC PS for 3D work at another location with a different persons subscription for my clients jobs.
    3) You need to get PS CC installed on my new production box on its “D” drive before I will agree to anything except the above. Lightroom CC 2014 installed just fine. There is no excuse for a product like PS to fail on extraction prior to install!
    Britt from adobe:
If you do decide to cancel, we can refund your subscription.
If you stay with the service, we can provide 2 free months as an apology for the technical difficulties. We cannot provide a free year.
Please let me know which you would like to do.
    Thanks,
    Britt
Kee Jee You want me to stay with a service that provides no product? And has not provided me with a usable product since October of 2014? And now the word is out that you are raising subscription prices after the first year? Who do you think you are? You HURT peoples ability to earn a living! You cost us hours and days and months trying trying to fix your problems so we can move forward with your products? Who in the hell do you think you are? Tell you what, dont cancel a thing. A media blitz and maybe a subpoena to San Jose is the right move to protect peoples rights. Your company needs to learn a lesson in how to treat legacy customers. It seems no one has taught you that "if you take care of the customer, they will take care of adobe." Britt, care to guess how many dollars I have given adobe in almost 30 years?

Britt, I'm still waiting for my refund!
    1) I am STILL waiting for a full refund.
    2) Second I need my subscription extended at the SAME price for ONE year WHEN I START A NEW SUBSCRIPTION upon new releases of the photography CC bundle. The current one does NOT install correctly on a purpose built computer to handle Video and 3D processing with PS. I will not tolerate adobe and your text support wanting to delete legacy products that go back to CS3 and newer that I depend on to pay my bills.
You and your tech support was worthless in suggesting they wanted to CLEAN my ENTIRE box of ALL ADOBE products. The LEGACY Apps WORK, they are PAID FOR, and thousands of dollars of After Effects, Premiere, and medical scientific plugins for Photoshop would be invalid and not useful without the legacy installed products. I sure as hell am NOT upgrading to CC for my production bundles after the way you have treated me and many of my clients now. Instead we are pursuing alternative solutions that are not adobe.
The forums are full of folks with the same install problems for CC 2014. That is one year free for the extreme hassle and loss of time productivity, travel expenses, and monies due to being forced to use my standalone PS CS6 products for core work and another copy of the CC PS for 3D work at another location with a different persons subscription for my clients jobs.
    3)  There is no excuse for a product like PS to fail on extraction prior to install!
    4)  Your software has a poor history in the security department and I am now dealing with the second zero-day affecting my Flash, exploiting Internet Explorer and Firefox on
my Windows 7. You all deny that you have a problem. I am waiting for you to notify me soon on what needs updating and I need to know when you plan to push out a fix. Only then will
I allow flash back on my systems.

  • I can't make a video-chat on Facebook?!?!

    Hi !
    I can't have a video-chat on Facebook..
It seems like FB can't find my webcam.
All other programs are closed, så it's not because the camera is busy ..
I have had that problem since October 2013 i think.
Appel doesn't seem to help me.
Their answer to the probmle is: "someone is gonna fix it soon or later"
Rubbish for a company that big and a product that expensive.
Any one there knows how to fix it?
And am I the only one with that issue?
    - Lisa

Apparently TenFourFox 5.0 supports video chat on Facebook on PowerPC Macs.  I found a post from someone who no longer contributes to Macrumors, a speculation page.  But there is this Facebook page if that's what you have, where you might be able to find more info:  http://www.facebook.com/macpowerpc
