N96: Installer runs when phone is switched on and ...

Hi,
When my phone is swtiched on the application installer runs. I presume this is normal. The problem is that the process doesn't finish and it is left in memory. After the phone is fully booted, I show the open applications and the installer is still there. Is there anyway to investigate what is causing this?

Did you install something recently, or tried to install something ?
Do you have an external MMC in your phone as well ? If yes -> remove it, and see if the problem still occurs. If it doesn't -> try formatting the MMC.
If you don't have an external MMC, try to format your phone (after backup of your vital data)

Too bad. When I had a Droid there was an app that you could set which apps to quit and which to leave running. Just convenient rather than having to go through the apps bar repeatedly and quit apps individually. It is not an intrusion to control the phone or quit other running apps... it's my choice... Ooops! My mistake. Forgot that I no longer have free will in what I do. The Company knows better.

Try this - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. Plug it into a wall outlet for at least 30 minutes, then reset it: Press the Sleep/Wake button & Home button at the same time, keep pressing until you see the Apple logo, then release.

Battery dies overnight when phone is switched off

I have recently done a couple of updates on my phone and since doing so I have noticed that every morning my phone is completely dead and will not switch on. There is charge in my phone when i switch it off at night but it is completely gone by the morning. Do i need a new battery or could it be due to the updates i have done?

I recommend that you attempt to boot into Safe Mode:

It may take you multiple attempts to get the ESC key sequence (press/release/hold) correct, so be patient. When successfully into Safe Mode, see what happens.
If the behavior ceases, then think carefully...what happened just before this behavior started? A new app? An update? A Theme? Something else? Think carefully as the smallest change could be causal...and attempt to undo whatever that was.
But if the behavior continues in Safe Mode, then it could indeed be your battery...to test, this sequence is needed:
Obtain an known good and already fully charged additional battery...use it in your BB and see what happens
Obtain access to a known good and identical BB...use your battery in it and see what happens
The results of this will indicate if it's your BB or your battery that has the problem.
Otherwise, it could indeed be the updates you did, and you may need to consider more drastic actions -- WIPE, OS Reload, BBSAK Wipe/Reload, and the "Bare Bones" OS Reload Process. To prepare, you should be sure that you have a full backup to your PC...please review the Backup link in my auto-sig on this post for instructions.

I just experienced this exact same issue with my early 2011 15" macbook pro. Since like a month after purchasing it I had issues with the screen randomly going dark on me. I sent it in for repair inder waranty they replaced the gpu and logic board but I continued to have the same issues with the screen randomly going black sometimes I would need to reboot it in order to get the screen to go back on but it happened so infrequently and I used the computer for school so disnt find the time to resend it in to apple. Just last night the screen started to display the blue screen with black verticle lines on it. I called apple and explained to them the issues that had been ongoing since I purchased the laptop but they said because I was now outside of warantee that any repairs at thia point wouldn't be covered. Fml so glad I spent 2200 on this future proof macbook pro what a joke my sister purchased a toshiba laptop for 300 4 years ago and it still running like a champ. I loved my macbook but at the price I paid I expect it to last longer than 2 years before leaving me high and dry. *** apple??

I have an idle script that handles iTunes. I want the script to run when I run iTunes and quit when I quit iTunes.
At the moment my workaround are two separate scripts, "zactivate" & "zquit"
activate application "iTunes"
activate application "albumArt"
quit application "albumArt"
quit application "iTunes"
I use spotlight to launch these but I would like to open and quit iTunes "normally" and have the same effect as the above scripts.
Please help me. I am a novice.

Normally AppleScript will not run automatically when you open or quit any given app - they're completely unrelated events.
However, if you already have an idle script, then you can amend your script to periodically poll to see if app1 is running and then launch/quit app2 based on the results. Something like:
on idle
tell application "System Events" to set processList to name of every application process
if processList contains "iTunes" then
-- iTunes is running, so make sure your secondary App is:
if processList does not contain "albumArt" then
launch application "AlbumArt"

-- iTunes is not running, so quit the secondary app

The basic idea here is to periodically check to see if iTunes is running. Based on that, either launch or quit albumArt to keep them in sync.
Lowering the return value from the above 30 seconds will have the check performed more frequently. You can run it as often as you like based on how long you're prepared to tolerate the apps being in a different run state.

IPhone alarm not working when phone is switched off

Is this right? My Nokia alarm always used to go off at the desired time even if the handset was completely switched off, but my iPhone doesn't appear to be able to do this?

The iPhone is also not completely off, but it doesn't do anything noticeable when off (such as disturb others in a movie theater by sounding its alarm).
But then of course nobody would surely be so stupid as to set an alarm to go off when they're going to be in such a place.

Phone not switching on and cant restore it

My phone has turned itself of and now i cant get it to switch back on again. I have tried reseting it but it just keeps showing the apple logo. Every now and then the screen will flash but it refuses to do anything.
Obviously I cant connect it to restor it as itunes doesnt pick it up.
Help what can i do.

i had mine jailbroken,
NOT the same problem if jailbroken. Not all jailbroken phones can be restored.
You can try DFU mode, though I can't guaranty it will work:
1. Disable all security apps (firewall, antivirus/spyware, etc.) running on your PC/
2. Get latest iTunes (10.2.1)
3. Start iTunes
4. Connect phone to a USB port on the computer, not an external hub or keyboard port.
5. Press both home and sleep/wake buttons for +exactly 10 seconds+, then release the sleep/wake button and continue pressing the home button alone until iTunes detects the phone in Recovery Mode. Note that if you see the Apple logo on the phone, you pressed the sleep/wake button too long - the screen should remain black.
6. Follow the prompts to restore.

HT4623 os6 iphone 4s wifi password does not save when phone is turned off and turned back on

i just udpated my iphone 4S to OS6 and when accessing my secured wifi I add my password and then joins secured network. However, if I turn the phone off and turn back on again the wifi connection is lost and cannot re join until I add my password AGAIN. Tried soft reset and reset network but nothing worked.
Any other suggestions?

If you do a search of the forums, there appear to be a number of postings regarding iOS6, wi-fi security and random disconnection of wi-fi. It appears, as the posts have discussed, it is connected to the use of WPA2 security. Most of the posting, however, have been related to iPhone 5, not the 4S. As far was what was posted, they say Apple has been made aware of the issue and they are looking for a fix. Not sure if that would help the iPhone 4S, because it does not support both bands as the iPhone 5 does. Just remember that WEP is less secure than WPA2. You might also try restarting your router after changing back to WPA2 on the phone, depending on what the router is set for.
