N97 on usb

My N97 is working relatively fine, not half the probs other people are having.
Annoying thing i've found is :
I've set messaging to store on the mass memory.
When you connect to your pc with the cable, it changes the memory back to C:, when you unplug from the pc it doesn't change back.
I received messages and emails whilst hooked up, they're now stored in a different place to my others !?!?!?!?
Anyone else ?

yes it is a normal behavior. when you connect your phone in mass memory mode, the memory is read differently from pc suite connection via usb. every time you connect via mass memory you have to remember to reallocate your memory back to e - mass memory. it is not automatic you will have to do it manually every time.

  • N97 mini USB cable connectivity issue

    Hello all,
I've tried to connect my N97 mini with the micro USB cable, and it seems not to work.
When I connect the device, It asks me to pick PC Suite, I choose it, but then, when it tries to install the phone on my laptop, it just doesn't work, and it says that the hardware might not work ok.
I have uninstalled and installed Ovi Suite 2 times, I have resetted the phone and it doesn't work.
It worked first with Bluetooth, but now that I try again, it just doesn't work anymore.
Please let me know what I can do.
    Thank you!

Same issue here. Reset phone, cleaned and reinstalled all software but no success.
I tried the cable with different nokia models and it works fine, it is definitely a N97 mini issue.
Waiting for a firmware update to get this really basic function

  • N97 MTP USB Device

Before I upgraded my N97 Firmware to 21.01.045 My pc windows 7 saw my phone as N97 when i would open a window to explore the phone contents, and when I would copy a video onto my phone it would convert it when it's copying it onto my phone automatically.
After the update-I had problems when ever I connected my phone to the pc USB, telling me the MTP USB Device failed.
But then all of a sudden few days later the MTP USB was successful but it again saw my phone as N96, BUT NOW it does NOT copy the videos as it used to, I have to go through Windows Media Player to transfer videos to my phone.
    Inconvinent...

Solved by repairing installation of Nokia Suite. I'm using version 3.3 of nokia suite on a windows 7 ultimate operating system. Needed this step to update firmware. After many attempts I finally overcame this problem by going to control panel>uninstall a program>scroll to nokia suite>select uninstall/change>dialog asks if you want to repair or uninstall>select repair.
*Please make sure of the fllg:
    >phone must be on
    >MUST be connected in PC Suite mode - If your phone tries to connect to internet or wlan, keep hitting cancel till it asks you to select (PC Suite) mode.
    >Windows may try to install drivers and you'll see MTP usb device installation Failed - ignore for now
    >Make sure the internet connection on your PC is active
    >NOW do the repair-install as described above
    >During repair windows will again install your device drivers, and this time you should be good to go
Hope this helps someone, and saves them the many hours I took to get this right.

  • N97 mini USB issues

    Hello
I have never used the USB port before but now when I need it it doesn't work.It just charges the phone but it doesn't connect to the PC
    I have tested 3 phones(N900,HTC Desire HD and my N97m), 2 USB cables(CA-101 and an unknown cable) 2 PCs and 1 PS2(PlayStation2)
N900 and HTC successfully connect to the first PC(the PC I'm writing now) with both of the cables
N900 successfully connects to the second PC with the unknown cable
My N97m is unable to connect to the first PC with both of the cables but it charges normally.
Also it is unable to connect to the second PC with the unknown cable but it charges normally.
BUT when I connect it with the unknow cable to the PS2 it connects and asks me for connection type(OVI,Mass Storage..)!
    I tried to
    1.Restart the phone
    2.Soft,Hard & Master reset
    3.Different USB ports
4.Turning off the phone, plug the cable(starts charging) and turn on the phone
5.Installing/Uninstalling/Reinstalling Nokia Suite and Nokia PC Suite
    and nothing seems to work
    Can anyone help me please?

I don't know how much help I can be, but this is one of the more interesting problems I've seen. Since you are seeing the Ovi Suite/Mass Storage/etc. menu with the PS2, we know it does work. It would seem there's some strange phone <-> Windows interplay going on. A couple suggestions:
    1) Is the OS on both PC's the same? If you haven't tested on a non-Vista/7 box, that could be revealing.
    2) Have you tested on either PC *without* any Nokia software installed? You don't need software for Mass Storage mode. The memory card will appear as any removable drive. Remove the Nokia software, download and run PC Suite Cleaner (do a web search), reboot, then test with the unknown cable. (Good job with the various tests, BTW! )
    3) While it shouldn't ever affect the appearance of the menu, there should be some small programs installed on the phone (even after a hard reset) designed to facilitate the features of Ovi/Nokia Suite. While I don't know exactly what gets installed for 5th Edition phones, you can safely remove Service Controllers and anything called "...DS Plugin". Reboot and when the phone <-> Windows interaction finally gets working, Nokia Suite will reinstall these pieces.
    4) Keep in mind there's an entire Nokia Suite forum here devoted to issues with that software package.
    I hope that helps!
    Thanks for the reply!
Now after the resets when I plug-in the cable
PC:No USB icon on top of the screen| no conn.menu| Settings->Connectivity->USB shows 'Not connected'
PS2:No USB icon on top of the screen| no conn.menu| Settings->Connectivity->USB shows the mode I have chosen. (! In mass storage mode theme changes to default)
    1. The first PC(this PC) is running Win7 with latest updates the other PC I described is running XP. I have tested on Linux and the result is...the same :\
    2. On this PC, first, I tried when no Suite was installed then I thought this is the problem and I installed it but again no result
On the other PC(XP) i tried only without the Suite
    3. I dont know what should I search for but I dont have any 'service controllers' nor 'DS plugin'
4.I think the problem is the phone not the PCs/cables and thats why I made a new thread

  • N97 USB connection

Is any having problem with the USB connection?  Problem : PC suite detects N97 but cannot transfer file from PC to N97, but USB charges the phone.  I tried to reinstall the pc suite and reinstall pc suite support, its still not working. Any idea?

if you are on v10....then that is exactly the issue. the phone is not always recognized by nsu or pc suite. all you can do is continue trying time and time again eventually one of those times you phone will be recognized. this is a major issue of the v10 .. firmware

  • Problems with PC Suite 7.1.30.9 USB connection

Ok, So I've been having trouble the last 2 weeks or so getting this to work. I Correctly installed the PC suite 7.1.30.9 on my PC (windows vista home premium 32) some time back. It used to work well with my old N95 8GB, but after I got the N97, for the week it worked fine and would connect in any compatible mode. But then I started getting an error whenever I connected my N97 or my N95 on PC Suite, It could not detect any phone. When I tried adding a phone using PC Suite, the options for what kind of connectivity I would like to select with my phone were not even highlighted and I was getting an error message about infra red and trouble connecting. I re-installed evrything and then started getting this error message "Connected in non compatible mode" even though I had selected PC Suite on either phones. I tried restarting my phones and PC, but still got the same error. I tried uninstalling and re-installing PC Suite, nokia connectivity cable driver, PC connectivity manager and starting again, but still got the same error. I Even tried that again, but with an older version of PC Suite (6.85.12.0) but no luck.
The funny bit is It connects easily with no trouble when I use bluetooth but doesn't work work with the USB cable. I know its not the phone because Niether the N97 nor the N95 work correctly with USB.
Can someone help me, because Bluetooth is way too slow when I'm trying to transfer loads of different data and using my phone as a modem.
    can't wait for n97 successor

  • N97 internet connection for XP.

    Hi!
I have problem to get XP connect to the internet trough n97 via usb connection.
I have installed ovi and got everything looking like it should, it installed succesfully N97 as modem, and it connects to internet without any problem. (says connection made with xxxx speed)
Then when i open internet Explorer of Mozilla, it cant get any connection (timed out)
I have checked Explorer only to use modem connection, because there is not way to get connection trough lan (It is only home lan without internet connection, but there is lots of traffic)
One thing what worries, i have checked it to only use modem to connect, still it opens homelans webpages, what cant be connected trough internet..
I have also checked firewall (turned off also) and looked trough ipconfig, it gets ips, but not any dns info, maybe that is problem.. I have no longer ideas where to look more..
If someone could help out, even give some winks where to look for, cheers.

I'm looking for a low-cost solution and maximum internet speed and am thoroughly confused by all the router types out there.
If cost is a primary consideration, then one option would be the Linksys WRT54G wireless router. The following reference provides some other choices, as well: http://compnetworking.about.com/cs/wirelessrouters/tp/80211ghome.htm
Your maximum Internet speed will NOT be dependent on the router, but on the ISP. However, your wireless speed will be dependent on the router's ability to support 802.11g (or the new draft-n) standard...and the wireless card in your Mac. If your Mac has the original AirPort card (802.11b) then it won't be able to take advantage of the higher speed router models.

  • N97 - Ovi Suite Connection Problem - Windows 7

    Hi all.
I have N97, firmware version 20.0.019 (t mobile - **bleep** with the old firmware updates.... )
I am running windoze 7 with all updates etc.
I have the latest version of nokia Ovi Suite and the latest version of Nokia PC Suite.
I am reluctantly trying to get used to using ovi suite instead of PC ever since Nokia's update page seemed to suggest I should be using OVi suite with this phone.
Anyway bluetooth connection is working fine. I can do all syncs with everything on bluetooth.
USB connection is not, when the phone is connected, and I select PC Suite on the phone, the phone and PC then get stuck in a sort of loop where the PC is "installing drivers" and the phone keeps asking me to select PC Suite mode.  Occasionally I get an error message saying I am stuck in file transfer mode.
I have also tried this after going into settings and setting USB connection mode to PC SUITE only, with Don't Ask selected.
This is profoundly frustrating and also renders the ability to update phone software totally useless because you cannot update via bluetooth, only USB connection.
I am getting mighty peeved off with Nokia's ability to get firmware, and software products right.  Come on guys, hire some decent developers, and/or start responding to feedback from customers like me.  (I'd happily beta test any software, I've done it before for an online game......!!!!)
I am considering selling my N97 online, and just buying an unlocked HTC HD2 after over a decade of using Nokia phones.
    help!
    R

Amazing that so many have responded to this post, and not one has come close to the right answer... I've had the same problem for a while, and at first I thought it was just my old XP notebook - which had more than one problem - or the general poor performance we've come to expect from the N97. I couldn't even sync on Ovi. But with my new Windows 7 notebook in hand, I was all excited to finally update the firmware on my phone - which had been stuck on v12 for a while. Imagine my surprise when I still had the same problems with my brand-new notebook. I started browsing around for more help than this thread, and found that Nokia has released a software update program seperate from Ovi Suite. Just google "Nokia Software Updater for Windows 7" or whatever version of windows you have, download & install. You might need to kill three "Nokia..." processes in the Task Manager to let it run, because it seems Ovi suite has these processes starting up with Windows. (Amazing when they program applications to do that without your permission!) Why on earth would Ovi Suite need to run three processes on my machine anyway, if I haven't even started up the program after reboot? But still, this program wouldn't connect to my N97 via USB. I clicked on the icon in the system tray showing the drivers installing after I plugged it in, and found the culprit: The installation of the driver for "MTP USB Device" failed. Googled that, and found that there are a lot of people having problems with that, from cameras to cellphones to mp3 players. Tried a few suggestions I found, and ended up having to uninstall all my (brand new?) USB controllers (under "Device Manager") and deactivate Windows Media Player from "Windows Features", reboot, then re-activate Windows Media Player - something to do with MTP Devices getting their drivers from Windows Media Player. Not sure if it was one or both of these fixes, but then Nokia Software Updater connected to my N97 with no problem. Installed the software update, and now all is good again. Incidentally, after the software update was complete, a whole bunch of different drivers were installed when I connected the USB... the main one changed from "Nokia ... Parent ..." something to "Nokia... Flashing..." something - and Ovi Suite connects fine now as well! Good luck to everyone who had this problem - it's been fun.

  • N97 won't connect after updating OVI Suite to 2.2....

I just update Ovi Suite to 2.2.1.23. After a reboot of windows (vista) Ovi Suite starts, but when I connect my N97 with USB cable, Ovi suite seems not to recognize my phone. The connection with my computer is OK., I can browse my N97.
Even when I try to find a new phone, Ovi suite doesn't see my N97.
Everything worked a hour ago, before upgrading....

    I found this:
    /t5/Connectivity/N97-Software-update-connection-problem/td-p/669092
After removing all nokia software, I installed the mentioned beta software updater and nokia ovi suite again. ...
and now my N97 is connected again and I can synchronise with ovi suite....

    Hi,
I just had huge problems in having my N97 updated. Nor Ovi Suite, nor PC Suite (after complete de-install and re-install as described in a message above), nor having installed Nokia Software Updater seperate was able to do it. Each time it halted stating that it was not able to find my device on the usb-cable while the suite itself was perfectly able to see it.
Still, I managed to have it updated through a beta software updater. I can only hope it will work for you guys too, here's the link:
    http://betalabs.nokia.com/blog/2010/06/30/nokia-software-updater-beta-adds-device-application-update...
Good luck to all of you !
P.S.: make sure you attach your device to an USB-port directly on your MB !

  • IPhoto does not show my device

I upgraded to Snow yesterday and everything seems fine with the exception of iphoto 08. When I plug in my Nokia N97 via USB, iphoto automatically launches as it normally would when there is now pictures to transfer from my phone. The problem is, the phone is not listed in the left panel and I have no option to import the photos. When I plug in my Canon Power shot camera, I have no issues. The camera is listed and all the photos on the camera show up in the import window.
    Any ideas?

Firstly, make sure that your device is not hidden (left hand pane). If it just reads device then toggle between SHOW and HIDE.
Secondly, try all the other ports on your computer, even a number of times.
Thirdly, if you have another computer try plugging your device into it without taking any action, give it a moment, remove it and try it back in your other computer again.
Failing all that, see here - http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1591
And failing all that put the device into Recovery mode. See here and note the paragraph 'If you restore from a different computer.... ' down near the bottom of the page -

    Hi,
I donot have any problem with my N97.
I am not sure this will solve your problem but  you can try this?
    1. Uninstall Nokia Ovi Suite, PC Connectivity solution and Nokia Connectivity cable drivers from Add/remove
    2. Delete the files from here:
    C:\Documents and Settings\User\Application Data\Nokia\Ovi Suite
    C:\Documents and Settings\user\Local Settings\Application Data\Nokia
    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\OviInstallerCache
    3. Restart your PC
    4. Download and install latest Nokia ovi Suite http://europe.nokia.com/support/download-software/nokia-ovi-suite

Anyone knows any app  that would allows SkypeIn on my N82 besides Fring? Call quality on Fring is bad. Tried iSkootbut not able to set it up at all. Calls always fail, be it outgoing or incoming. Thanks for your time!
    Vj

I've seen many threads about this boot problem and the "corrupt card" theory comes up a lot.
If that's the case, why would this happen on such a large scale?  Because I've never unplugged the USB unless all Nokia apps are closed, including the little taskbar icons.  Windows doesn't offer a way to eject the card since Nokia has a unique way of mounting it.  I'm not aware of any extra precautions I could take.
The worst case scenario, though, would seem to be to unplug the USB during an application install, but even in that case, since the installer is copied over before installation begins, I don't think that would even interrupt the install or break the card.  It's hard to imagine what copy could be interrupted that would do that kind of damage.  And anyway, this all seems contrary to everything else I've read about unplugging nokias, like:
    /t5/Nseries-Devices-and-S60/The-safest-way-to-unplug-5800-from-the-PC/m-p/597971
    /t5/Nseries-Devices-and-S60/How-to-disconnect-from-USB-safely/m-p/244218
    /t5/Accessories-Car-Phones-and-Other/How-to-properly-remove-the-USB-cable/m-p/106359
    /t5/Nseries-Devices-and-S60/How-to-safely-remove-N97-via-USB/m-p/531483
..none of which sugest that the stakes are so high.
Regardless, whatever is happening, the Nokia startup process should be able to deal with it.

  • N97 Errors when connecting via mini usb

    Hey All,
I am a happy new owner of an N97, it took alot to leave my normal HTC and HP iPaq but i love the N97.
Except one little thing, i am unable to connect my phone to the PC suite via USB.
when i connect the phone it does give me the option to select PC Suite and i choose it but Nokia PC synch and Ovi Suite says the phone is not connected!
    please can someone help??
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

An alternative to PC Suite is to use Nokia's Ovi Suite 2.  There is a recently released beta available from Nokia's Beta Labs.  It's a much nicer interface and everything is integrated into one interface instead of a mish-mash of bits and pieces that form PC Suite.
    http://betalabs.nokia.com/ovisuite
Ovi Suite 2 has been a lot less problematic for me.  When it goes from Beta to Final release, Nokia will be getting rid of PC Suite anyway so you'll already be familiar with the software when it's the only offering from Nokia.
