NAC Appliance Deployment issue

Hi,
We are going to deploy Cisco NAC Appliance 3310 Clean Access server in our network. Regarding the deployment I have several questions.
My questions are:
Do we required any additional server like WSUS for patch/windows update management?
Does NAC appliance talk with MS AD for authentication?
Do we required anti-virus server for endpoint security?
Do we required additional remediation server to remediate the infected endpoint?
I will be glad if get the above answer.
Regards,
Mamun

Mamun,
No, the CCA system asks the client to remediate itself, and the Windows update client on the client computer then attempts to remediate based on it's options. The two options are going to Microsoft's WU servers, or if you have an internally defined WSUS server, going to that.
The other thing you can do also is to "offer" the clients to download files that you store on the CCA system based on different requirements, but doing it this way would be very hard to manage since you're looking at creating requirements for each patch which can become unwieldy very soon.

  • Does Cisco NAC Appliance deployment require CS-ACS?

I've gone through all the partner training on the Cisco NAC appliance and mgmt station, and CiscoSecure ACS 4.0+ is mentioned just about everywhere in the user verification steps.
If a customer does not have CSACS, or AAA for that matter (say in just a MS Exchange environment), the NAC appliances can still be used, correct?
I'm assuming they can, but that leads to if any functionality/checks would be lost in that case, and if so, what?
Anybody have any ideas on that?
    Thanks!

Yes, you could use NAC with the local database for a client demonstration. This is actually my preferred method.
Of course, you would lose the central management functionality which comes with ACS or a hook to Active Directory via KTPass (This command-line tool enables an administrator to configure a non-Windows Server 2003 Kerberos service as a security principal in the Windows Server 2003 Active Directory).
Though by all means deploy NAC, even if you are simply want to demonstrate its functionality. Configure the authentication portion last, after your customer is happy with the demonstrated results.
    Hope this helps.

  • Nac appliance deployment with 802.1x

    Hi,
Is it possible to deploy a nac appliance solution and use 802.1x as protocol to discover users connection on a switch?
We don't want to use snmp, I have a microsoft radius server in my deployment for user authentication.
    Thanks!

  • NAC Appliance 3350 Server

    Hi ,

    Thanks 4 reply

    Hello,
    NAC Appliance:
    • Offers Authentication, Authorization and Remediation
    • Covers Wireless, VPN and LAN.
    • Only can be used as an appliance. No virtualize offerings. For small locations which ISR routers, a 50 and 100 user module is available.
    • Licensed by user count matching and applied to the corresponding enforcement server. Users bundles are 50, 100, 250, 500, 1500, 2500, 3500 and 5000.
    • Uses SNMP V1,2 and 3 or can be in-band / bump in the wire.
    • Can leverage Cisco Profiler or whitelist non-NAC capable devices.
    • Cisco enforcement appliances can provide collecting abilities for Cisco Profiler with an additional license.
    • Can Leverage Cisco Guest server for advance guest access.
    • Comes in HP or IBM appliance formats.
    • IBM appliances are 3315, 3355 and 3395 appliances. They can support ISE
    • HP appliances are 3310, 3350 and 3390 appliances. They cannot support ISE
    ACS 5.X:
    • Offers 802.1x NAC features and device management (TACACS/RADIUS).
    • Can be an appliance or Vmware. Appliances that are IBM hardware can support ISE. VMware can be migrated to ISE for an additional cost.
    • Provides Authentication and Authorization. Does not offer remediation.
    • Requires switches that support 802.1x COA as specified on cisco.com/go/acs to function as the enforcement agent. ACS alone cannot offer access control.
    • 802.1x NAC features do not require additional licenses for up to 500 users/devices. To scale beyond 500 users/devices, an additional large deployment license is required.

  • Cisco NAC server hang issue

Hi All Cisco NAC Experts,  I am currently experiencing a Cisco NAC NAC3315-SVR hang issue.
The issue was already happened for few time on the same server and the symptom when NAC server hung includes no response to ICMP ping, no response to SSH request, no response for access request to CAS management page via https, HA pair was detected down from its HA neighbor and triggered failover to secondary CAS.
The CAS server was recovered after manually power cycle the hardware.
After went through the attachment CAS logs, I found all the services and logging service were stopped when the issue happening but unfortunately there is no any suspicious activity was logged down before or during the issue happening.
I have also tried to search on Cisco Bug Toolkit but no similar case was found, I believe it was not caused by software bug due to the software version 4.8.1 is running in my company for years and only one CAS server having the issue.
That will be great if any one can help me out for the same.
    Thanks,
    Eric

    Hi Bro
This could be a problem with the certificate in that Cisco NAC appliance itself. My suggestion is to redo the certificate generation between the CAS CAM and CA Server. If this still doesn’t work, it could also be due to overload/broadcast storm on the LAN portion. This can be verified via Wireshark.
If all else fail, then a hardware swap would seem like the next best thing.

  • Nac framewwork or nac appliance which is better

hi all can someone just advise which is a better solution the nac appliance or the nac framework.
    regards
    sushil

    Hi Sushil,
If you are taking a poll, please count me in for the appliance over the NAC framework. I've done both and there are more variables in the framework than when you use the appliances. From my experience, the more variables the harder it is to troubleshoot. Your mileage may vary.
I would also add that doing an implementation which employs a Virtual Gateway, Out-of-Band
for wired users, and Central Deployment is the best use of your time and money.
Of course, if you are using NAC for VPN and Wireless users you still need dedicated CAS devices for these require In-band deployments.
    Hope this helps.

  • NAC Agent Deployment

    Hi All,
Is there a way to peform an unttended installation for Cisco NAC Agent. We are trying to deploy the NAC Agent using Tivoli but the administrators of this Tool asked us if the installation package of the NAC Agent has an option to perfom a silence installation.
    Regards!

    Marco,
Hopefully this guide will help, you can execute a script that will install the agent silently.

  • L2 or l3 switch with NAC appliance

    Hi,
I am planning for deploying NAC appliance in OOBVG mode. For the access layer, L2 switches are selected (2960). If I change the L2 access switches with L3 (3560 or 3750) would this add more manageability to the access layer by NAC?
    Regards,
    Mladen

    Thanks.
The document "Cisco NAC Appliance - Clean Access Manager Installation and Configuration Guide" says:
"In out-of-band Real-IP or NAT gateway deployment, the client IP address has to change when the port is changed from the Auth VLAN to the Access VLAN."
So the clients will have to receive TCP/IP settings via DHCP twice, which I don't think is client satisfactory.
If the NAC is in OOBVG mode, are there any NAC features, which are not supported (IP filtering rules, access policies, and any other traffic handling mechanisms)?
    Regards,
    Mladen

  • NAC appliance(security policy/update-files)

Does anyone know something concerning to the following issues?
Please teach me what I can refer to on the WEB,if possible.
    1. Is there any way to apply the policy(checking OS/AV) to the kind of client devices which CAA hadn't been installed such like guest user?
    2. Is it possible that NAC appliance does clients only "port-scanning" (not checking OS/AV)?
    3. If user-company already has their own "Anti-Virus Server" or "Windows-update Server", can CAM refer to their servers(not Cisco's policy-update-server) to get current update files?
    4. How long does it take the update-files become available via Cisco's policy-update-server after each OS/AV-vender had released them?
    Regards

No, we should install Cisco Trust agent S/W in order to collect the information about the OS versions, AV versions etc to the Policy server. And based on the security policy of the organisation, we can communicate with the AV vendors like symmntac, Mcafee servers directly for the latest patches and updates.

  • CCA Agent debug - AD SSO NAC Appliance

    Hi,
I'm investigating a HARD AD SSO issue on NAC appliance and checking the doc suggested by Prem (Troubleshooting Windows SSO)I don't understand how I can obtain the output in page 14 (title: Debug Logs from Agent).
I've activated the event.log (adding registry key...) ad suggested but in that file I can see only a lot of exadecimal data....not easy to understand....
    can somebody help me ?
    thank, regards

I think most of the hexadecimal characters are MAC addresses. In the following document go to chapter "error and event log messages" for understanding the messages

  • What is a Cisco NAC appliance used for?

We have a 5508 WLC in use already and have this 3310 lying around unused.  I am trying figure out if adding a 3310 would be of any benefit.
From the documentation, the features of a 3310 NAC are,
Recognize users, their devices, and their roles in the network
Evaluate whether machines are compliant with security policies
Enforce security policies by blocking, isolating, and repairing noncompliant machines
Provide easy and secure guest access
    Simplify non-authenticating device access
Audit and report whom is on the network
What does enforce security polices by blocking, isolating, repairing really mean?
"Provide easy and secure guest access"  I already have a public wireless ssid set on the wlc.
I can recognize users in reports like Solarwinds.  I can see the username, IP, MAC, AP location.
I can get an report from my logging traps collector, Solarwinds.

Well usually when I have deployed them back in the days, you had a NAC Appliance and another NAC Manager. But what you have read, that is exactly what it does.
What does enforce security polices by blocking, isolating, repairing really mean?
It will block and isolate the device if it doesn't meet the requirements that you have set, but the user has to manually repair the items.

I can recognize users in reports like Solarwinds. I can see the username, IP, MAC, AP location.

You will not see any username or ap locations. I wouldn't use it as it might be more of a headache to implement unless you know what you are doing.

  • NAC Appliance & Nessus Scanning

    Hi All,
In the process of getting our NAC appliance setup moved into a production level. We have everything working up to getting Nessus scanning working. I'm a bit confused by the documentation. It appears as though Nessus scanning only applys to web login users... is this correct? The doc shows activating Nessus vulnerability handling under General Setup -> Web Login. I don't see anywhere how to enable it for an agent environment. I have a setup where our test user is placed into the proper roles, and I have selected a Nessus vulnerabilty for that role. I never see the scan happen though. It's as if the agent isn't required to go through vulnerability scanning before being placed into his or her role. Is that correct? Thanks in advance for any help!
    -Mike

    Paul,
Good to hear from you. I have been rather busy and I'm hoping to get some time in the near future to get the blog updated. The CMPC program I wrote has been quite popular with nearly 400 downloads so far.
Back to the issue of Nessus scans. We're looking good, getting scans done now on the agent side. But I'm trying to test by enabling the TFTP server detected plugin. I have it setup as seen in the attachment. When I test against the workstation, it shows that it detected the TFTP server running. But, when the user logs in with the agent and is placed in that same role, they never are notified they are vulnerable. Why is that?
Thanks for the help so far!

  • Authentication NAC appliance with ACS

I had deployed a L3 Virtual Gateway mode for NAC appliance. There is ACS for authentication. How can I add ACS to "Auth Servers". CAM settings do not need mapping rules. Every user just anthenticate oneself's account, then CAM can pass these info to ACS. What should I do, Thank you?
Is there any configuration example, e-mail to [email protected]

Kindly help me in this regard

    Solution:
Workaround the issue immediately by removing the "ns1:" qualification on the operation for the binding.jca entry in the composite.xml and redeploying.
    For example:
    From:
    <binding.jca config="BAPI_COMPANYCODE_GETDETAIL_invoke_3P.jca"
    operation="ns1:BAPI_COMPANYCODE_GETDETAIL"/>
    To:
    <binding.jca config="BAPI_COMPANYCODE_GETDETAIL_invoke_3P.jca"
    operation="BAPI_COMPANYCODE_GETDETAIL"/>

  • Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro deployment issue

Hello. I am having a deployment issue with Adobe Acrobat 9 using Altiris. I create the rip which is bassically an image of the install. My facility has pruchased 50 seats for this software so I know we are covered for the users that we have to use this software. The issue that I am having after I make the rip, and deploy it to a machine it asks for the CD key again in order to use. Am I having an issue with my installation or is Adobe put some kind of security into their software so that when you try to make a rip of the installation is asks for teh CD Key again after the install? Is this an issue that can be resolved?

    SOLUTION:
The issue was somehow related to DPI (START > Settings > Control Pannel > Display > Settings Tab > Advanced button). Eventhough the DPI was set to normal, I switched it to LARGE, restarted the machine, logged in after the reboot, changed it back to normal size, restarted again, logged in once more, checked the Printer Preferences and PRESTO --- a properly displayed window.
