Name Notation

Hello,
Can we use Name notation in the form 10g when calling a procedure. I have done like below and I am getting error.
In the Program unit I have a procedure debug_msg.
Debug_msg(a number, b varchar2);
I am calling the debug_msg procedure from anothe trigger like this.

a_n number = 100;
b_c varchar2(20) = 'name';
begin
debug_msg( a -> a_n, b -> b_c);
end;
I am getting the error " Encounter the symbol > when expecting ............XXXXXX".
Could any body suggest what is wrong in it.

  • Suffering around a class name notation

    I have downloaded a simple package source files from the Net.
    Their original package structure was:
    CWD - aa - bb - example - TestApp.java
                  - xx - yy - Model.java
                            - Widget.java
                            - WidgetUI.javaTestApp.java had a package declaration:
    package aa.bb.example;
    // and import stmts for Model and WidgetOther three had another package declaration:

      }They were all fine. They compiled and ran normally in the specified
    package/directory structure. But a small silly surprise was: the command

    WidgetUI is logically referenced from Widget but the compiler didn't
    care that type of referencing.
    Here follows the story of my long silly suffering. I had flattened the
    whole package structure of the package in order to make them simple
    teaching material. The new structure was:
    CWD - TestApp.java
        - Model.java
        - Widget.java
        - WidgetUI.javaAnd in the Widget.java:
      public static final String uiClassID = "WidgetUI";They compiled fine without smallest glitches. However, got runtime error:
    UIDefaults.getUI() failed: no ComponentUI class for: Widget
    ......The Widget wasn't drawn on the screen because Java could not find the UI.
    After several hours of futile struggling, I tried below without any ground
    nor confidence:
      public static final String uiClassID = "/WidgetUI";Then, suddenly the success came.
    Why oh why "WidgetUI" failed and "/WidgetUI" succeeded for a class name
    from the unnamed package? Why?

    As for the format width(132 lines) Ill see if I can get this fixed for the next release.

  • Name Notation in PLSQL Code causes '= '.. '= ' when applying "Format SQL"

    When comiled you have to do a search replace to fix.
    Also if your wrap around is 132 lines, then Format SQL should also do the same, and not extend the lines to some ridiculous length.

  • Can't access object using "id" or "name" if created with actionscript

    How can you register an instance of an object with actionscript so that it's id or name value is accessible?
    I included a simple example where a Button is created using mxml and in the same way it is created using actionscript.  The actionscript object is inaccessible using it's "id" and "name" property.

    Hi Dan,
    It is a very rare occurrence when I miss not being able to access an object (object property, really) using the ["name"] notation for objects created using actionscript.
    In MXML the compiler is conveniently adding an attribute to the class with the same name as the id, so you can conveniently refer to it using the [] notation. While we explicitly specify an application container to use, the MXML compiler creates a custom container which is a derivative of the base container and to that it adds properties for the children declared in MXML. I guess it also effectively calls "addElement" for us when  the container is being constructed.
    Your example assumes that using "addElement" to add the button to the application container is the same as declaring a variable (ie property ). It isn't, so there's no point in looking for an property of the name "as3Button" using the [] notation, because it doesn't exist. The container is managing a collection of children in it's display list and that's not the same as being accessible as properties of the container.
    Generally speaking, accessing properties using the ["name"] syntax isn't necessary.

    [edit: you may wonder why "addElement" doesn't conveniently also add the "id" attribute to be an property of the container class. Unfortunately, it can't because the container class would need to be dynamic and it's not. A further complication would be that adding properties at runtime would invite naming clashes at runtime with associated mayhem. MXML can do this because the compiler generates the class and can trap name duplication at compile time.

  • Display of sender's name in email messages (order backwards)

    If I receive an email sent:
    From: "Xyz, Ltd." <[email protected]>
    In my list of emails the sender appears correctly as Xyz, Ltd.
    But if I open the email itself, it displays as:
    Ltd. Xyz <[email protected]>
    If I look at the same mail in Gmail it displays with the name correctly.
    I assume in one place Mail is taking the name literally, but in another place it is assuming "aaa, bbb" is a "last name, first name" notation because of the comma.
    Is there a way of getting Mail to display this consistently?

    Actually, in this case the sender was me, testing a mail sent to my personal address to see how it would look to other customers when they receive it. So I would have no control over the other customers, if they are using Mail app.
    The alternative is to just list my company's name as Xyz Ltd. instead of Xyz, Ltd. But for a company name it's most common to have the comma there I believe.

  • Relationship Notation

    I am having a hard understanding the notation employed for the "Long Name" that appears in the Relationship Properties dialog.
    Assume the following facts:
    1) The parent object is the Source. Source is mandatory. Source to child (target) cardinality is "*" - i.e. the parent may have zero to many children.
    Hence the Source Cardinality dialog shows the values "Source to Target Cardinality = *, and Source Optional check box is blank (i.e. parent is mandatory).
    2) The child object is the Target. Target is optional. Target to parent (source) cardinality is "1' - i.e. the child must have exactly one parent.
    Hence the Target Cardinality dialog shows the values "Target to Source Cardinality = 1, and Target Optional check box is checked (i.e. child is optional).
    This results in a "Long Name" value of "Relation_X (ParentName - 1..*:0..1 - ChildName)"
    This notation can be read as "ParentName has 1 to many ChildName" which would be incorrect.
    Or, the notation can be read as "ParentName has zero or 1 ChildName, which also would be incorrect.
    I don't know how to interpret the "Long Name" notation to make it consistent with the facts of this case. What am I missing?

    I think by setting the Source to mandatory you are saying "The parent must have 1 to many children."
    I think the problem you are having is the limited detail and sometime confusing User's Manual.
    Here's what it says about the first checkbox:
    Relation Cardinality: Source Optional: Controls whether the source entity in a relationship must, by default, contain one or more instances. If this option is enabled, source instances are not required for all relationship types; if this option is disabled, one or more source instances are required for all relationship types.
    My interpretation of this is that the Source Optional checkbox determines whether or not the target entity is optional for the relationship when viewed from the source. If I'm correct then you are using the checkboxes backwards. (I'm new at this tool, but I've been doing data modeling for 30 years.)

  • Service Name Replacing SID?

    The following excerpt from JDBC FAQ suggest that Oracle is replacing SID with Service Name (http://www.oracle.com/technology/tech/java/sqlj_jdbc/htdocs/jdbc_faq.html)
    "Oracle is replacing the SID mechanism for identifying databases with a new services approach. This has been available in the database since 8.1.7. JDBC supports services in the connect URL. We strongly encourage everyone to transition from SIDs to services as quickly as possible as SID's will be cease to be supported in one of the next few releases of the database."
    Can we safely assume that all DB (version > 10g) will have Service Name configured by default ? Which one is more commonly used SID or Service Name ?

    If I am correct, since 8i , Oracle is recommending people to go for Service name notation than the SID notation. Service name notation is the latest notation from sql*net protocol and SID is the older one. From 10g onwards, with the RAC incorporting services all over, service concept is now almost everywhere in the database. So yes, you should switch over to the service name than the sid notation wherever required.

  • Virtual system Name

    Hello Friends,
    We are doing EHP4 upgrade in our production system. Our production system is configured as follows
    Example
    Physical System: ABC
    Virtual System:XYZ
    Now the scenior is as
    1.)When we log in to XYZ it goes to ABC . and when we log in to ABC it goes to ABC.
    2.)the Profile - START and INSTANCE profile .
    Its for the virtual system XYZ
    and the Physical system is a soft link to this virtual system.
    My query is
    1.) What different approch should we take during the upgrade.
    2.) I just started the upgrade and in the initial screen of INITIALIZATION we get the error that the
    UNABLE TO DETECT AN ABAP AND/OR AS JAVA INSTANCE OF THE SAP SYSTEM ON HOST ABC.

    For the issue encountered in Initialization phase of upgrade:
    1. Ensure to download the latest EHPi tool from the service marketplace.
    There were recent corrections to instance detection.
    2. Make sure, the naming conventions for profiles are followed
    as explained in SAP notes
    96317 Host names during R/3 upgrade, tips & tricks (section 4)
    962955 - Use of virtual TCP/IP host names;
    23538 Problems due to inconsistent host name notation
    3. Cleanup the profile directory and only leave the actually
    used profiles in there. Move old profiles to a backup directory.
    4. Use the niping -v command to verify the hostname used by the
    system.
    5. Make sure old instances of EHPi are not running any more.
    Kill old EHPi processes as necessary.
    6. Also add two parameters to the instance profile:
    saplocalhost and saplocalhostfull

  • Passing values to between Pages from a PLSQL Procedure in third Page

    I have a form divided into 3 pages. The first Page is used to select Template which is used to call a screen Page 54 and Page 55 (Wizard Based screen).
    From Page 55 (third page) of my application, When I click on Finish Button (Submit Button), a PLSQL Procedure is called which inserts values in 5 to 6 tables on a schema. The Success message include Article &DOCID. successfully Added.
    When I return to the first Page which is Page 24, it displays no value for DOCID.

    There's no need to post that much code when you could create a very short test case that demonstrates only the problem you are having.
    You're using &NAME. notation on something that isn't a page or application item. You can't reference PL/SQL variables that way (or any other way) outside the PL/SQL scope. For your situation, you could create a page item named P55_DOCID and assign it a value in the PL/SQL process (:P55_DOCID := DOCID;), then reference &P55_DOCID. in HTML areas like the success message.

    if we change the SERVICE_NAME to new one what are all the impacts.
    1. Whether all mapping and process flows will become invalid?
    2. Whether we need to re-deploy all mapping and process flows?
    3. What procedure we need to follow?

    how did you specify address of target database during creating OWB repository (as SQL*Net string or with host/port/service name notation)?
    Using OMBALTER LOCATION "LOCATION_NAME" SET PROPERTIES(SERVICE_NAME) VALUES ("NEW_SERVICE_NAME")You won't change locations address in this way (because location is already registered).
    Again - how did created locations (with SQL*Net string or with host/port/service name notation)?
    Anyway try to look at metalink note 434272.1 "How To Update Warehouse Builder After A Database Cloning" (this note contains reference to utility for changing location address in form host/port/service)

  • Extractvalue giving ORA-00932 when used in PL/SQL

    Hi,
    When I use the extractvalue function from within PL/SQL I get this error:
    ORA-00932: inconsistent datatypes: expected NUMBER got

    The same SQL statement run from SQL Plus gives me the correct result. Is there any difference in calling this function from within PL/SQL?

    Hi,
    When I use the extractvalue function from within PL/SQL I get this error:
    ORA-00932: inconsistent datatypes: expected NUMBER got
    SINAPP.body.contentType1898_T
    The same SQL statement run from SQL Plus gives me the correct result. Is there any difference in calling this function from within PL/SQL?

  • Passing values to form bean string array from dynamic added textboxes

    Hi,
    I am unable to pass values to form bean string array from a jsp in which I have incorporated dynamically adding of textboxes in javascript.
    I have given add/delete row option in the jsp. If there is single row, this is working fine. But after adding a row, I am not able to either do any validations on added textboxes or pass the values to the String array form bean variable.

    There's no need to post that much code when you could create a very short test case that demonstrates only the problem you are having.
    You're using &NAME. notation on something that isn't a page or application item. You can't reference PL/SQL variables that way (or any other way) outside the PL/SQL scope. For your situation, you could create a page item named P55_DOCID and assign it a value in the PL/SQL process (:P55_DOCID := DOCID;), then reference &P55_DOCID. in HTML areas like the success message.

  • Passing values/results between condition type by using the formula

    Hi,
    I'm having one condition type (A), that is determining a result percentage based on Condition Table A. Based on the percentege determined in Condition Table A, I would like to set a custom field value in the Kondition record structure (KOMP) so that value will be considered within condition type B and accessing condition table B.
    So far the only way to set values that I could find was within the Requirement formula associated with condition type B. Are there any other options? And how can I acces the percentage that Condition Type A determined? I looked into all kinds of global tables, but could not find anything.

  • Connection URL

    Hi.. I'll start off by saying I'm a newbie in Oracle and in this forum. I searched for an answer, and I found lots of posts on connection URLs, but nothing seemed to be what I needed.
    What I'm doing is trying to connect to an Oracle database with jdbc through Eclipse. I'm in the New Connection dialog, and I filled out the fields with my best educated guess, but I'm still getting "Invalid Oracle URL specified"
    This is what I have:
    jdbc:oracle:odbc:@<hostname>:1521:TBNT
    where TBNT is the database name. For hostname, I have a typical dotted name notation.

  • Change Management strategies?

    Would appreciate any shared experiences on how people manage the orderly running of developer scripts.
    At the moment, I get told to check a script out of SVN and run it. Fine -except there's no record in the database of what was run, or what I had to do to get it to run successfully. For example, I might have a script which creates a new package, drops a table or two, adds an index then does five hundred inserts; one line of which might not mention a table in the full schema-dot-name notation, so it perhaps erros out with a 'object doesn't exist' problem. So I add the schema name to get the job finished. Now what I ran isn't 100% what's in SVN, and so on. Similarly, I add a header to the script so that it spools output and so on, but that's not in the SVN either, and maybe a different DBA will add a different header, spooling to a different location, and so on.
    Another issue arose just today: which scripts have been run on a particular database? We can only tell by looking at the output spools -but who knows if one of the spool files was moved, spooled to the wrong place, deleted etc. SVN will only tell you that scripts 1 to 15 exist or were, at least, committed to the SVN repository; it won't tell you that 13 was run, but 14 was missed, etc.
    It seems to me that if the developers use SVN when developing, that's fine. But as a DBA, I'd like what gets run to be stored in a database table, and the results of running it to be similarly captured in a CLOB somewhere... but how does everyone else manage this stuff?!

    It can be complicated to manage.
    And it is important to distinguish between at least two types of 'tweaks'. If a DBA needs to tweak something that is missing but should have been there (e.g. a privilege unrelated to the new release being installed) then tweak it. There isn't really anything more to do since it should not have been missing to begin with and, presumably, if the DB were rebuilt from scripts that privilege would be there. It may be that someone did a 'tweak' and removed that privilege at some earlier time.
    The second kind of tweak is to DDL or DML that is part of the new release being installed. Again, that could be a privilege that isn't there. But in this case the privilege never was there; either the developer or a DBA missed discovering that the privilege was needed. Sometimes this occurs when the testing is done by someone with more privileges than the user that will actually be using the app.
    For those 'tweaks' the DDL for the missing privileged definitely needs to be added to version control so that it will be available if the code for that release is needed again and to document what was really installed.

    So, you're saying that your devs will write three different scripts to be run in dev, testing and prod? Fine if so. If that's how you manage it, that's what I'm interested in knowing about. My devs don't do that, though. The assumption is that if it works in one, it will work in the other. Indeed, I believe one of my responsibilities is to make that true (by not granting permissions in one that I don't in the others, for example). But I can spot a losing battle when I see one.

    Well a good example of that is the one I used regarding DB links to remote systems. In dev and even test environments you certainly aren't going to have DB links that point to a remote production system.
    So someone has to modify the code to alter the DB links to point to the appropriate system. Sometimes you can mitigate that by using the same DB link name but in legacy systems you can't always change the link names that have existed for years.
    In orgs I work with it is the developer responsible for the code that makes the required changes. After testing things in DEV and checking the code into the DEV branch of version control they check out the code again, modify the DB links and check it back in to the TEST/QA/PROD code branches in version control.
    And you are right, that is where it get's sticky when you have more than one developer working on a package. They have to make sure that only ONE of them has the 'official' version of any given package checked out.

    Yes - what is in SVN IS CONSIDERED the 'master'. But SVN has a different code branch for DEV/TEST/QA/PROD so each of those branches will have the 'master' for its environment.
    Again consider the example where the DB links are different for each of the four environments and a developer is adding a 'fix' to one package function:
    1. exclusive check out of current package code from DEV branch in SVN
    2. make and test fix in dev
    3. check in updated code to DEV branch in SVN
    4. exclusive check out of current package code from TEST branch in SVN
    5. update new DEV package code to alter the DB links as needed.
    6. test fix in TEST
    7. check in updated code to TESTS branch in SVN
    n. continue above as you migrate from DEV to TEST to QA to PROD
    A modification of the above is along the lines of always using the current SVN code for PROD as a starting point and altering its DB links to what is needed in DEV.

    What I think you're saying is: check out the developer's code from SVN. Do what you have to do to make it work in three or four different environments, and commit each changed version back to SVN. Is that how you do it?

    Yes - but that's not the worst of it. In this age of Agile and Scrum and all of that there are usually multiple release cycles going on at the same time and you need to use the code base (SVN code branch) for the release cycle PRIOR to the one you are working on.
    If the PRIOR cycle code changes (hey -those people are still working on it and it isn't release yet) you have to sync up with it before you can finish yours.
    This more or less sums up what you have to try to deal with:
    1. SVN has multiple TRUNKS (e.g. a trunk for each release)
    2. Each SVN trunk has multiple branches (at least one for each environment)
    3. Some objects may have multiple developers working on them simultaneously for the same release. Two developers doing bug fixes on two different functions in the same package.
    4. Different environments may be at a different release cycle.
    A. PROD has what is being used now: release 3.4
    B. The next PROD upgrade, 3.5 may currently be in the QA environment ungoing final testing.
    C. The second release, 3.6 may be in TEST with some of those developers also still working in DEV to address any issues discovered in the TEST environment.
    D. The third release, 3.7 will be in DEV and some of those developers willl sometimes have conflicts with developers trying to finalize the 3.6 release - the 3.6 developers have priority.
    When a release reaches QA the 'tweaks' had better be few and far between and, if minor, are just tweaked so they work and the 'tweaks' updated to the appropriate SVN TRUNK and branch.
