Name resolutiion in solaris 10

one of the host (storage nfs) are change in ip, i already changed it /etc/hosts but the name cannot be resolved. happen only in solaris 10 client, not in solaris 8 and RHEL 04
NFS mounting keeps hanging
Need advice ...

Check that the name is/is not resolving
# ping <newname>
# nslookup <newname>
as suggested above check that /etc/nsswitch.conf is set correctly if DNS does not resolve <newname> to the new addr.
A quick workaround while you sort out the name/addr issues is to use the ip add in /etc/vfstab (change back once DNS is fixed).

  • LONG FILE NAME SUPPORT IN SOLARIS 10 INTEL BASED

    Hi,
I am facing the problem in solaris in which, i found that whenever I am copying any file directly from windows based PC to solaris the file name become automataically squizzes to 8+3 [dos file support]. In this case I am facing the problem in which I have to again rename file as actual then only it works properly.
i.e the actual file name "abcdefghij.iope" is converted to "abcdefg_.iop"
Can you confirm is there any setting to avoid this in solaris.

  • Domain Name settings in Solaris - Newbie question

    Sorry for a newbie question!
I am already pointing a domain name to web hosting for email account. Now, I need an application server to run ERP software and Oracle, and installing Solaris and Oracle need a domain name.
If I point my domain name to the server, how do I receive emails from web hosting???
Install an email server to the application server instead? What can I do if I want the same domain name?

Your questions are completely off-topic for the forum.
These SunOS forums are for questions on <i>"how do I install my OS"</i>
You particular question is in the <i>"how can I install Solaris while using the CD drive"</i> forum.
So, if you had a question on how to edit the /etc/inet/hosts file to establish a FQDN on the computer, then it might be appropriate for the forum.
Unfortunately, I don't have a clue on where to redirect you, except perhaps to the Sun Java Enterprise System suite of applications?

  • File name completion in Solaris 8 (SPARC)

I am running Solaris 8 on an old SPARC-20 using the C shell. File name completion will not work for root or any other users. I have verified that all are setup with the C shell by using echo $SHELL. Other C shell features (aliases, command history, etc..) work. Anyone have any ideas?

    Have you set filec=on ?

  • Truncated class names on Tomcat, Solaris 10

Guys, I installed tomcat 5.0.28 and 5.5.20 on Solaris 10. They start with no problem, but when trying to execute the examples, I get a 404 error. It{s because the deployed classes names are truncated:
    on /var/tomcat/webapps/jsp-examples/WEB-INF/classes/org/apache/jsp/jsp2/el, the content is:
    [code]
    basic_002darithmeti
    basic_002dcompariso
    functions_jsp.class
    implicit_002dobject
It's happening in both versions. ANY HINT/CLUE/HELP?
    Thanks,
    Vladimir

It won't work if the deployed Class Names don't match exactly with the Class Names that are in the files.
Your only solution would be to either shorten the class names in both the file name and the name of the class inside the file, or
keep the file names in their full form as they were originally.

  • Name Server Issues Solaris 9

During Install of Solaris 9. I attempted to config DNS.
But the System comes back with Name Server error. What am I during wrong?

If your nameserver is not on the same subnet as your Solaris host, it won't be able to route to it; select "none," then edit /etc/nsswitch.conf and /etc/resolv.conf after your install is done.

  • Qualified Host Name & Static IP Solaris 10

I have IP service via Comcast. I don't have a registered domain name so I am having similar issues with unqualified host name. So that I understand it, the, "host" is the machine (NIC address hprb0) that one is using? Or is the 'host" the machine providing the gateway, like Sun.com?
    =======================================================================================
you get your informations via dhcp. provide a static ip and a hostname in /etc/hosts and /etc/hostname.nicname files and you are done.
btw. which solaris 10 version do you use? (cat /etc/release)
    greets,
    DN2
    ======================================================================================
DN2, could you please provide a protype text entry into both files. Also I have I have my initial setup using DHCP so when I put in a static IP (prefered) how do I disable a DHCP request for an IP address? I
    EA

In past installs onto my home desktop box, I set a static IP during the Solaris installation process. I always pick an IP that is somewhere in the upper range that my home router uses for its DHCP range. There will never be that many systems requesting an IP from that router so I'll not ever chance an IP conflict.
For example, if the router's DHCP range is going to be 192.168.1.1 through 192.168.1.50, I would make the Solaris system 192.168.1.45
I then accomplish the hostname qualification by placing a tab-separated naming in the NIC file.
For example your hostname.hpbr0 file will have
machinename      machinename.comThe dot-com syntax in there accomplishes the qualification.
    It just works.

  • Which Name Service for Solaris installation behind router?

I want to install Solaris on my computer in a small home LAN behind a router.
The Solaris computer is not part of a zone, a domain and there is no own DNS server in LAN.
I want Solaris to get the DNS from router which in turn gets the DNS server assignments from network provider.
This is similar to a Windows installation which gets the current DNS servers defintion from network provider at connection startup.
Now what do I have to select during Solaris installation? See attached snapshot
I guess LDAP, NIS and NIS+ are not suitable.
Do I have to select "None"?
Does DNS mean "own DNS server in LAN" or "DNS from router" (as intended)?
    Thank you
    Peter

    Hello
I don't know you home setup but in general you will have to use DCHP so solaris will get all info from the route the ip and dns etc..
If you want to use a static ip you will have to config the DNS by hand.

  • Log in to solaris defualt user name

iv just installed solaris login screen comes up yet during instaltion i set a root pass but not a user name what is defualt user name and password
solaris 10.2 thank you in advance
ps maybe its me being stupid but it realy late so forgive and im having 2 run a puppy live cd to do this so i wont be able to view most documantion if you decide to send me a pdf or anything :D

You shouldn't need to do that. As has been mentioned a million times /home is controlled by the automounter. Most of use use /export/home for home directories which avoids the issue mentioned above altogether.
If i didn't do these, useradd utility does not work, I can add a user alright but that user can't log in and the solaris management console does not work too in my end, i did the installation several times, each time with a different behavior but one thing is common though, the issue I've mentioned.

  • Solaris studio OpenMP runtime library name

    Hello:
Imagine I'm using some functions from the OpenMP API as omp_get_wtime(), for example. If I use gcc compiler I need to pass to the linker the order -lgomp as libgomp.a|so is the GNU OpenMP implementation (I know that I can pass -fopenmp instead the -lgomp, but I want to pass -lgomp for example in order to use omp_get_wtime() but not to activate other OpenMP directives in the program). If I use the Intel compiler, the order should be -liomp5 -lpthread and for PGI compilers -lpgmp
But what is the name of the solaris sturio OpenMP runtime library? Which flag should I pass to the linker in order to use the API functions of the OpenMP implementation? I know -xopenmp flag for activate OpenMP, but I want to link only the runtime library
    Thanks

Thank you again for your answer:
You are right, I should say my platform. I'm using an Intel Core i5 processor running Debian GNU/Linux (64 bits). I know that the compiler supports only Oracle and RHEL linuxes, but I have downloaded from Oracle and installed the file SolarisStudio12.3-linux-x86-bin.tar.bz2 in my Debian box without problems. The compiler seems to run very well, and the obtained results from the generated binaries are correct, so I suppose that the compiler runs too in Debian.
Inspecting in detail the -xdryrun output I have found the actual path of libmtsk.so in my insyallation: /opt/sun/solarisstudio12.3/prod/lib/compilers/rtlibs/usr/lib/amd64
Why this path is not loaded by default by the compiler as when I use -xopenmp, I don't know. Now, my program runs.
The reason to use omp_get_wtime() function when I not use OpenMP pragmas is because not exists (at least I don't know) any method to obtain millisecond precision using ISO C99. I know functions as clock_gettime() but is only POSIX complaint. The OpenMP is not C99 of course, but OpenMP is present in almost all platforms and comes with the majority of moder compilers. If anyone knows an ISO C99 method to obtain millisecond (or better) precision to compute time, I would like to know about :)
About your suggestion of compile the program with -xopenmp flag and run with OMP_NUM_THREADS=1, the execution of a program compiled without OpenMP and with OpenMP+OMP_NUM_THREADS=1 is not the same. The latter one is slower due to OpenMP in complicated loops with barriers or other OpenMP orders as flush() for example, so I need to compile pure non-OpenMP code. Other case is, for example, when you want to use the break clause inside a for loop that is possible to stop before the last iteration. In OpenMP the break sentence cannot be used and you should to use dirty tricks to simulate it. This makes a bit slower the OpenMP execution but with the correct number of processors is faster than serial code, but definitively running it with OMP_NUM_THREADS=1 is not a good idea.
    Thanks again for your time

  • Disk Access Failed while Installing Solaris Container.

I have setup 5 guest domains together with the Control Domain.
    $ ldm list
Name State Flags Cons VCPU Memory Util Uptime
    primary active -t-cv SP 4 4G 0.8% 2d 2h 15m
    secondary active -t--v 5000 4 2G 0.5% 3h 5m
    dmz active -t--- 5001 8 2G 0.0% 46m
    sunray inactive -----
    application inactive -----
    identity active -t--- 5002 4 4G 0.1% 1h 2m
In each of the guest domain, I plan to install a number of Solaris Containers to run different applications. While installing one Solaris container (zoneadm z <zone name> install) in dmz domain, I start the installation/configuration (either zoneadm z <zone name> install or zlogin C <zone name>) of another Solaris container in identity domain. Everything starts OK until half way I get an error message as follow:
Jun 13 18:33:16 dmz vdc: NOTICE: [1] disk access failed.
The installation of the Solaris Container in dmz halts as soon as I see the message above. Nothing will work except a force stop in the Control Domain using ldm stop f dmz and restart.
What happen to the Solaris Container installation/configuration in identity domain? It either continues the process without error or fails with the same error message shortly after. For example,
Jun 13 18:33:24 identity vdc: NOTICE: [1] disk access failed.
The vdisks for each guest domain are setup by following the steps on section Using ZFS Over a Virtual Disk in LDoms 1.0 Administration Guide. Each guest domain is booted from a disk image in the Control Domain and has two 9GB data vdisks (mapped to two physical 9GB disks on A5200 disk array) running ZFS striping. Each guest domain vdisks are serviced by a separate vdisk server.
    Any idea?

I am not sure if multiple virtual disk servers are officially supported under current LDoms release.
I had tried using only one virtual disk server. The same problem exhibited. I thought may be the vds was not able to keep up with the virtual disk I/O. That's why I setup multiple vds.

  • MDM console GUI on Windows is not mounting the MDM server on Solaris

    Hello MDM experts,
This is kind of administrative problem. I am basis person, installing SAP MDM 5.5 SP04 for the first time.
I have configured the MDM server (mds) on solaris 10 system. I have also configured MDM import server(mdis) and Syndication serever (mdss) on the same machine. I have installed the database software and configured the empty repository on the same host machine.
So, Database and all the 3 MDM services (mds, mdis, mdss) are running on Solaris machine.
After that, I installed "MDM console fat client GUI" component on my desktop and trying to "mount the server" by specifying the "hostname" of the solaris machine where MDM services are running.
But I am not able to mount it...it says invalid server and does not mount.
Any idea what might be the problem ????
    I referred following link :
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_mdmgds55/helpdata/EN/8e/9f9c427055c66ae10000000a155106/frameset.htm
which says, you should have administrative right on Solaris machine where MDM server is running....but how do I have that being a Windows user ???
    Please advise.

    Hello Mark,
    1. When I right click on the "SAP MDM servers" node in "Console Hierarchy" pane on the left hand side of the Console GUI, and select "Mount MDM Server..." option in context menu, I get a dialog box for entering my MDM server name.
I typed in the fully qualified host name of my solaris server where "mds-r" is running.
When I click "OK" button, it adds an entry in "Console Hierarchy" on left hand side, but the entry comes with "Yellow exclamation Mark" sign. Also it says Status "Invalid" when I see the "MDM servers" section on right hand side top.
When I right click on my newly created entry of MDM server, all the options on context menu like "Mount Repository, Create Repository, Connect to MDM server" look greyed out. Only the option of "Unmount MDM server" seems to be enabled
    2. I tried to do the same thing on 2 different Windows machines and got the same output.
    Regards,
    Bharat

  • Managing  NIS accounts on Solaris resource

Perhaps You have some helpful experience managing Solaris NIS accounts ?
I'm using IDM 8.0 and observe a quite disappointing situation:
Reconciliation of about 5000 accounts takes 10hours!
    1) Resource Reference suggests to improve the performance of "logins" command
on Solaris by installing patch 126632-01, which does not exist:-/
The patch 125549-01 (found in sunsolve) requires Solaris 10, my scenario has Solaris 9:-/
Has anybody installed that patch and got better performance then ?? How many percent speed-up - 1,10,90 ?
    2) To "increase performance during bulk provisioning" Resource Reference also suggests
to add and use (??) an attribute "user_make_nis" (same name on resource and IDM ?)
    and/or (??) "create a ResourceAction named NIS_password_make in the workflow" !?
Are these 2 features meant to work each independent or only together ?
Did anybody try to do that - with noticeable effect ?
During "reconciliation" in general or only "user update on the resource" (provisioning) ?
What means to "use" the attribute and what is content of the ResourceAction (cd /var/yp; make)?
    3) Do You have other suggestions for improvement (based on experience) ?
    4) Did anybody use the ShellscriptAdapter for Solaris/NIS instead - with better result ?
    Thanks for reply.

    Thank you.
I could solve this problem by using waveset.forceUpdate too.

does anyone know the steps to permanently change a server name regardless if it has a static or dymanic ip address

To change the hostname, edit /etc/nodename
To ensure that the hostname doesn't get overwritten by your DHCP config, edit /etc/default/dhcpagent and remove the value 12 from PARAM_REQUEST_LIST..
