Name several links from form data

have a swf page of 10 thumbnails. From a html form on another
page I want to generate a list of the thumbnails' url and the url
of the movie that plays when each thumbnail is clicked. I can make
the form create a text file like:
1. bob.jpg , bob.flv
2. mel.jpg , mel.flv
etc.
How can I make my thumbnail page select these values for each
thumbnail when the page is generated?

If I understand what you're asking, you'll want to reformat
your .txt file a bit (just slightly!) and use LoadVars to obtain
those values.
1. bob.jpg, bob.flv -- now, if your pattern will be like
this, you can simplify the process. (ie- no 1.bob.jpg wayne.flv)
flash sees text file variables like this:
&variableONE=VALUEone&variableTWO=VALUEtwo&
the "&" symbol tells flash there is a new variable
coming. Then you're just assigning values to variables. Looking at
your example, you could do it one of two ways....
&image1=bob.jpg&link1=bob.flv
or
&person1=bob
//doing it this way would force you to keep your files a
little more organized, but it would probably pay off.

Is there any way to name the records from a data merge?

I have a spreadsheet, that has all the names for the images I'm using for a data merge. What I want to do is name the resulting records after the filenames in one of the columns in the spreadsheet. Is there anyway to do this? Or is there some other way to individually name the records from a data merge? I don't have any scripting prowess, so I can't really mess with that. You merge it along with the others, just like any field. ID cannot do the naming for you during the merge, but most spreadsheets have lots of logic capabilities that should allow you to extract a name for the record from the filename in the column of your choice. The only reason ID knows to find the image instead of writing the filename is that you've used a special name for the field.

How do I denote a file name for submitted XML form data?

When you preview a PDF from inside designer, it uses a temp filename for the doc and therefore when you test xml submit etc you will get the 'e.g. _e8hfydsh55hsksdf.xml' as a filename. However if the form is saved locally (e.g. MyForm.pdf) and you use Reader / Acrobat to open the PDF, then the email's subject message as well as the xml file will be MyForm.xml. Does that help you?

Create text file from form data

I need to create a form using dreamweaver and coldfusion. We
do not have coldfusion server. just Dreamweaver 8. Until we decide
what application server we will use, I need to create a text file
each time a user submits data from a form and put the data into a
text file. What would be the best way to handle this?

if you do not have an application server like CF or PHP or
ASP (or
other) to process your form submissions, you should look for
a perl/cgi
script that can do it for you. i remember from awhile ago a
script
called bnbform from bignosebird.com ... it is used for
emailing form
submissions to a designated email address, but if i remember
correctly
it also stored form data in a text file....

Attachments looses names when distributing from forms

Hi,
I use forms (RUN_REPORT_OBJECT) to run and distribute (to email) a report with additional attachments.
I dynamically create the distrubution list and store it and the files to attach on the application server.
The reports run ok, but in the email the attachments looses their name and get defaultnames like "PDD_ORDER07798975" where "PDD_ORDER" is the report name.
My attach tag in the distributionlist looks like:
<attach srcType="file" name="237959.jpg">
<include src="/usr/local/oracle/runtime/reports/prod/distribute/237959.jpg"/>
</attach>
When running the report from a url in the browser and with the same distributionlist the filenames is ok in the mail.
Another problem is that files like gif/jpg/jpeg get corrupted in the mail (pdf-files works fine) - this oocurs both from forms and from url...

Thanks for asking, Paul. Let me give more detail on the two questions:
(1)
We've received a lot of complaints from all over the world that recipients where not able to open our PDF form.
A portion of these complaints were resolved after we explained recipient that they had to upgrade to at least Adobe Reader version 7 or newer.
However, other recipient complained that they were still unable to open the form even with the latest version of Adobe Reader. These are the ones that we're concerned about. We don't know why they are having problems. Apparently, our files works on a number of computers with Readers versions 7, 8, and/or 9. But not on all.
Is it that the recipient who can't open the form have not installed their Reader properly? We don't know. Or is it that the form or form-generating software has some bug that causes problems on some configurations but not on others?
(2)
The behavior is not consistent. What worries us in particular, are recipient reporting that they can open normal PDFs but not this form.
One had the computer crashing, others got simply messages that they couldn't open the file.
Any ideas about the possible causes? Anyone similar observations?

Fragment de-linking from form

I have a consistent problem with fragments within my forms de-linking from the document for no reason. I open up an existing form and all that appears for each of my fragments is a purple box. When I go down to the object palette, the link to where the fragment is still exist so Livecycle knows where the fragment is.
The most recent case I had was that I edited on of my fragments. Now, all the fragments that I have on my 200+ forms are delinked. None of the fragments were moved to a different folder or anything.
Does anyone know what would cause this and how I can fix it? Relinking fragments on 200+ forms could take a few hours.

Is the path to the fragment reachable when this happens? Where are the fragments stord in relation to the form?

If PHP, you can simply use the mail() PHP function to send
the data to any email address.

Dynamic pdf filename creation from form data content

Can someone give me step by step solution to dinamicaly take an invoice number (example field) and include it in the filename.PDF output?

I do this a differnt way that you might find helpful. A prerequisite is that you can pass the invoice number as a variable in the jobline. The jobline would then look something like this:

Too much to peruse. You should debug it yourself, for example by inserting System.out.println statements in there to figure out where it's giving you trouble.

I'd recommend that you write a Java object that does all your database interactions and test it seperately from the servlet. Once you have that working, then let you servlet create an instance and just call its methods. By then you'll be 100% certain that your database object is working, and you can turn your attention to other problems.
I'd recommend JUnit as a good Java unit testing framework:

I'd also recommend that you look into JSTL and JSPs. Jakarta has a great implementation of JSTL (Java Standard Tag Library). It'll help simplify this code a lot. - MOD

Linking from one PDF to another: Is there a more efficient way?

Some background first:
We make a large catalog (400pages) in Indesign and it's updated every year. We are a wholesale distributor and our pricing changes so we also make a price list with price ref # that corresponded with #s printed in the main catalogue. Last year we also made this catalog interactive so that a pdf of it could be browsed using links and bookmarks. This is not too difficult using Indesign and making any adjustments in the exported PDF. Here is the part that becomes tedious and is especially so this year:
We also set up links in the main catalog that go to the price list pdf - opening the page with the item's price ref # and prices... Here's my biggest issue - I have not found any way to do this except making links one at a time in Acrobat Pro (and setting various specifications like focus and action and which page (in the price list) to open) Last year this wasn't too bad because we used only one price list. It still took some time to go through and set up 400-500 links individually.
This year we've simplified our linking a little by putting only one link per page but that is still 400 links. And this year I have 6 different price lists (price tiers...) to link to the main catalogue pdf. (That's in the neighborhood of 1200-1500 double clicking the link(button) to open Button Properties, click Actions tab, click Add..."Go to page view" , set link to other pdf page, click edit, change Open in to "New Window" and set Zoom. This isn't a big deal if you only have a few Next, Previous, Home kind of buttons....but it's huge when you have hundreds of links. Surely there's a better way?
Is there anyway in Acrobat or Indesign to more efficiently create and edit hundreds of links from one pdf to another?

George, I looked at the article talking about the fdf files and it sounds interesting. I've gathered that I could manipulate the pdf links by making an fdf file and importing that into the PDF, correct?
Now, I wondered - can I export an fdf from the current pdf and then change what is in there and import it back into the pdf. I've tried this (Forms>More Form Options>Manage Form Data>Export Data) and then opened the fdf in a text editor but I see nothing related to the documents links... I assume this is because the links are 'form' data to begin with - but is there away to export something with link data like that described in the article link you provided?

Best practice: Saving form data

I'm new to the JSP technology.
To get some experience I built my own little shoutbox "application" where you can insert your name and a message and if you click on "submit" your message appears at the top of the page. Older messages also appear below the new message.
For this, I created a little JavaBean which handles the entered name and the message. I called this class "Message".
To read the messages out of the database I created another class (MessageHandler) which returns an ArrayList of objects from the Message class.
I don't know if I'm doing this the right way, but I use this MessageHandler as a JavaBean so that I can do this:

I never use that approach
Simple pages
When I submit I have a servlet or Struts action that does the insert and then redirects/forwards to the submitting JSP , this JSP will then requery DB.
More complex
Always start with Struts and store all information on the Struts actionform.

Passing parameters to reports from forms.

we are using developer suite 10g and developed some applications.Our reports are working from report buider and also from the forms when we are not passing any parameter.
But when we add the clause to pass the parameter from forms fields it does not show any values and we get a blank report.
when we use this code it works with default value set in the report

But when we use code to pass the parameter like this it does not work

Please suggest how to pass parameter values from forms.

Changing fields in form opened in query mode via a link from a report

I have a summary report which allows me to access a form via a link: The form opens up with its fields populated with the corresponding record from the report.
Can additional code be added to the after displaying page section of the form such that some of the fields can be assigned with different values from those in the original record? If so, can anyone offer some sample code for this?

You can access and set the values of the columns in forms by using certain apis. All the columns in the form are available in the session which can be accessed and set.

The above code sets and gets value of the form fields. The form field is accessed by prefixing "A" to the form column name. For example if the column name is "DEPTNO" then to access or set value to it you should refer to the session variable "A_DEPTNO".

Passing form data from html page to JSP page

I have a simple HTML page with a form on it that sends the information to a JSP page that stores the form data in a JSP session. I created a simple form that asks for the user's name, sends it to the JSP page, stores that in a session, then sends it to another JSP page which displays the name. This worked fine.
However, I added another input box to my form that asks for the user's age to do the same steps as outlined above. This does not work, and I'm not sure why. Here's the code from my HTML page:
