Naming slides

Hello,
I have a question. Is there any significance to naming a slide [01]  [02] ?
Does naming it that way enable something?
I am working with a template created by someone else and this notation puzzles me.
Also they have a page numbering convention - that looks like this on the page
$$CurrentPage$$ of 33
and has an advanced action that reads
Expression    CurrentPage = CurrentPage  + 1
Go to Next slide
Thanks for your help with this.

Hello,
That is a very strange way of labeling slides, in a TOC it will not tell a lot. Maybe the slides are grouped and the group has a significant label (like a chapter title) and the groups are collapsed in the TOC.
I will always label slides, not for TOC only, but it is a lot easier to create custom navigation (Jump to...) when referring to a slide label then having to look for its number. And when you rearrange the sequence of the slides, labels remain, slide numbers will change.
CurrentPage seems to be a user variable (check the Variables dialog box). Check also its default value, is it set to 1? And I suppose the action is triggered by the Next button on the slide? It is not a very good idea, because if the user will revisit the slide, the slide number will increase again and the progress indicator will show strange numbers. If you find out:
default value in the Variables dialog of CurrentPage
which event is triggering the action you showed with the Expression
I will offer you a better solution that has not the drawbacks I talked about. There is a system variable cpInfoCurrentSlide that starts with index 1. If the goal of this progress indicator is to show the slide number and the total number of slides, this progress indicator will do the trick much better, and no need for an advanced action at all:
$$cpInfoCurrentSlide$$ of $$cpInfoSlideCount$$

  • How can I change the background of a single slide?

    I applied a theme to my keynote presentation but now I want to change the back of a single slide. How can I do this??? thanks in advance!!!

    Hi
    While you are at the slide that you want to change:
    Open Inspector
    Go to the second tab, named "Slide"
    The last option is named "Backround"
    You can choose a color, a gradient or an image fill from there
    And that's it.
    Hope it helps you

  • How can I include external javascript/css/html

    Hi there
    I want to create a analyser bar for when music plays in my edge project, can anyone let me know how to include a external file wthin my project? Is it a yepnope fuction?
    http://www.developphp.com/view.php?tid=1348
    Here is the link I am using as a tutorial for creating the analyser...

    You're welcome, George
    Say you have a symbol whose instance is named slider,
    and the symbol has an element named phrase (an empty
    text element used as a container for the html snippets
    you load in it) :
    var $phrase = sym.getSymbol('slider').$('phrase');
    var filename = buildFileName(); // a function defined elsewhere
    $phrase.load( 'text/' +filename +'.html');
    The HTML file contains a html snippet, that is to say what
    you would normally write inside <body> (no <header>).

  • How to change text in symbol for slideshow

    Hello, Newby here. I have done the lesson 5 in Adobe Edge Animate Classroom in a Book and everything went well up to a point. When I edit the text for the drop down moreinfo symbol it changes the text for all of the slides. How do I make the text individual to each slide??? The book does not explain this. Many thanks for any help.

    Since I am not sure what you have I can just give you general info.
    To create an array for text, for example create an array called info.
    var info = [
    'your enter your text for slide 1 here',
    'your enter your text for slide 2 here',
    'your enter your text for slide 3 here',
    'your enter your text for slide 4 here',
    'your enter your text for slide 5 here'  // no comma here - it is the last element of the array.
    Now you will have to add the code to reach the text in your symbol and this is where it can be tricky, depending what depth it is in. A basic symbol named slide with a text inside named caption would be
    sym.getSymbol('slide').$('caption').html(info[0]);
    and it will show element 0 in the array (the first element).
    The way you call it depends on you.
    I usually call it the way I showed above on a click event or another kind of event.

  • Problems Exporting Captivate to Flash

    When exporting a Captivate 3 file to Flash CS3, the area I
    recorded appears very small. However the mouse movements seem to be
    clicking on a much larger image, around the small one. I have the
    stage size and framerate matching the Captivate settings, so I am
    not sure what's up.
    Also, I noticed the skin I selected doesn't seem to transfer
    to Flash, so no playback controls. Is that too much to ask for, or
    is there a way to get those Captivate skins into my Flash
    file?

    - The slide backgrounds are all held on one layer in Flash.
    Looks to
    consistently be layer 2, named Slide Backgrounds :-)
    - This layer is locked. So click on the little padlock and
    unlock the layer.
    - Select "Onion Skin" and "Edit Multiple Frames"
    - Two little 'start onion skin" and "end onion skin"
    indicators appear at
    the top of the timeline - move them to the start and end of
    the timeline, so
    they encompass the whole project.
    - Select the Slide Backgrounds layer so that all of the Slide
    Background
    images are selected at once. You may need to also click on
    the background.
    - If you get it right. You'll see size and location values
    for the
    background in the Properties panel.
    - Type in the correct slide background size, and position
    0,0.

    It keeps coming back with an 'unsuccesful' message. I tried the tips in the çommon issues converting a catalog' on the forum ( repaired catalog/ auto-analyse off etc.)

    What can i do next?

    Work through this help article - Photoshop Elements catalog conversion failure. The log file usually gives you enough detail. For example, my conversion from 12 to 13 failed and the log correctly identified that I had two identically named slide shows in my catalog. Removing one from the v12 catalog allowed the conversion to complete (quite why v12 let me create two identically named items in the first place is not explained ).

  • Has ANYONE succeeded exporting Cap.3 -- Flash CS3?

    Subject says it. I'd like to know if it's impossible, or if
    the people posting in the EXPORT forum here (e.g. myself) are
    exceptions. I cannot export anything usable from Cativate3 to Flash
    CS3, because the sizes and positions of imported backgrounds, among
    other things, are completely wrong.

    Jennifer,
    I've tested the export to CS3 and I get the same issue you
    do.
    After messing about with several possibilities, it looks like
    this is the
    easiest 'fix' I can come up with for now.
    The slide backgrounds are all held on one layer in Flash.
    Looks to
    consistently be layer 2, named Slide Backgrounds :-)
    This layer is locked. So click on the little padlock and
    unlock the layer.
    Now you can walk through each of your background images on
    the timeline.
    - Select each image in turn.
    - With the image selected, type in the correct image size in
    the Properties
    panel.
    - The mage will resize, but will be in the wrong place on
    screen. Change the
    location x/y to zero and zero.
    Might take a while if you have a lot of files or slides, but
    it seems to
    work fine.

  • Create "2 state" button?

    Hi all-
    I'm not quite sure if that is a correct term or not but it sounded close :-)
    I was going to post this in the "Play more than one symbol from one button?" post since it was close but thought it better to start a new discussion since it is a bit different...
    I have a "slider" button that I basically want to have 2 states (on/off, in/out, etc...).
    I read and read the tutorial by Elane:
    https://blogs.adobe.com/edge/2012/07/18/tutorial-leveraging-independent-symbol-timelines/
    and almost got it but not quite. I got a bit confused since I am trying to affect the same object I am clicking (as opposed to a button to affect something else).
    Here's what I want to do and here is what I have (I'm new to javascript so my coding may be all wrong but I think the concept is correct):
    I have a symbol that is a simple "slider" button: more/less
    I want it to start on "less" - No problem (I started it in the timeline of the main stage with a "stop"in the playback).  When I click on it, it goes to more.
    What I want is when I click on it again, it goes back to "less" (play.reverse)
    In the stage's "Composition_ready", I added a variable like so:
    //     set variable slider to empty
    sym.setVariable("slider", "");
    And in the  "symbol" I tried to add the following code but It doesn't work:
    //     get and set variable
    var slider = sym.getVariable("slider");
       if (slider = "") {
    //     play the label in the symbol called in - the start of the animated slider - can I just set it to play since there are no other labels?
                        sym.getSymbol("deploy-slider-rectangle").play("in");
    //     set var to on so the slider knows what state to play
                        var slider = 'on';
    else {
      sym.playReverse("deploy-slider-rectangle");
    //     set var to empty so the slider knows what state to play
      var slider = '';
    I know this is probably more of a javascript problem but I thought I'd ask here since it is within Edge :-)
    Does anyone see the error of my ways?
    Also, if it makes a difference (other than naming the symbols differently in the code), I have 3 of these on the page :-)
    Thanks!
    James

    Joe - Thanks for the quick reply!
    If the variable is being stored in a variable named "slider" in the compositionReady event - and you are calling it from inside a symbol - then sym.getVariable("slider") will fail because it's outside the scope of the symbol.
    The symbol is on the "main" timeline.  The symbol name is "box_links-more-less" and on the timeline it is named: "deploy-slider-rectangle" ( and "develop-slider-rectangle and  "design-slider-rectangle" for the other two but I'm just tsting on one right now).  So, from the "main" timeline, I clicked on the "script" symbol to the right of the symbol named "deploy-slider-rectangle" and added the above mentioned code.
    So that part was then correct (In correct I don't mean it would have worked on all three but my calling the compositionReady event from the main stage's timeline was correct)?  I can see that if I was inside the symbol it wouldn't work...
    In your first batch of code, you write: if (slider = "") - a single equals sign is for assigning a variable, not for testing a variable for equivalence. For that, you'd use double equal signs, e.g.,  if (slider == "")
    LOL! - I had it that way but changed it trying to see if it worked that way :-)
    If the variable is being stored in the compositionReady event and you are using it for 3 separate buttons, then your buttons won't be able to have different states - or at least they won't work the way you'd want them to work. Instead of storing the variable in the compositionReady event, store it in the creationComplete event for your symbol - which will eliminate your scoping issues (point 1, above) as well, and you can use mulitple instances of a single symbol, and it will all work.
    I wasn't sure how that was supposed to work.  It seems to me the variable needs to be stored in each instance of the symbol on the stage(if possible) - is it only stored in the compositionReady or creationComplete?  I'm not sure I understand why that would work any better - If there is only ONE variable shared by all three instances, hten no matter what wouldn't they not work properly for all 3 instances?  OR is the creationComplete event created for each instance on the main stage? (That would make sense to me)?
    I hope that makes sense :-)
    Thanks so much for taking the time to explain this to me - I've become pretty adept at moving around the stage and creating things but now it is time to learn how to create events, thus learn the javascript necessary :-)

  • Enabling a button only after all other boxes on the slide have been clicked

    Hi,
    I am using Captivate 5 but I am fairly new to it and have very little scripting experience so I think what I am looking for is possible but I am not sure how to go about it!
    I have a slide with 10 click boxes which each link to a different slide with further information. Once the user has visited the additional slide they return to the original slide and can continue working through the click boxes to discover all of the information. This first slide also has a back and a next button to enable navigation through the rest of the project.
    Ideally I do not want to force people to click these boxes in a particular order and I do not want to prevent them visiting the additional pages more than once. However I would like to set up the page so that the next button will only be enabled once all of the click boxes have been pressed. At the moment, i do not have anything to stop the user just continuing through the project without reading the additional information.
    Any help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Mary

    Hi Lilybiri,
    Thanks for your reply,
    I think I would be able to use the second option of using buttons that became greyed out and then a next button appears on the slide once all of the pages have been visited.  Would you be able to send me the template please?
    I have a couple of other questions as well, I hope you don't mind! - Is it possible to do this using an image button rather than a transparent one or does this make it much more complicated? At the moment I have targets on the image which have a click box placed over them. It would be easy to change this to just the background image with the targets as image buttons but I am not sure I would be able to create the same style with the transparent button?
    I would need to increase the number of variables to 10, if I follow the same naming conventions etc would this be a relatively simple process?
    Finally I would not want the checkmarks to appear, how easy is it to make this change?
    Sorry for all the questions but I really appreciate your help!

  • How to use the slider to avoid keyframes movements?

    Hi there,
    first of all, I have to tell, I am not a English speaker, so please excuse me in advance. Anyway, I want to solve this particular issue: I have created an After effects project, where you can add into the composition your own text, logo or whatever... what the after effects project does is, that it turns your text, or logo into the 3D metal result. There is also camera cretaed, which moves from one position, to another. Take a look:
    The inputed text is "add content" (I have 4 cameras alltogether, but I am showing an example just on the first one, so you will not see the whole text. The rest of the cameras are also in other compositions)
    Here you can see the exact movement of the camera. However, if somebody inserts a logo or a text, which has for example 7 letters (in the next picture it is just "content") it will look like this:
    here you can see how big space we have. Also it is not appropriate to change the original size of the text in the composition to achieve the smallest gap, as we can see here. The height will be huge then...
    If I would edit it by myself, I would do this:
    -I would clicked on the button "2 views" and choose view from the "front"
    -Then I would select all the keyframes and after that i would go into the left window "front" and  using the mouse I would draged whole the camera to the position I want:
    The great thing about this is, that as I selected all the keyframes and then set the red line on one of them, the camrea will work even for the beginning! So this is how it will look after the fix.
    What the problem is, that after the small edit I want to send this project to few of my friends. Then they can easily put their text, or logo in. The text will have different height, width...it will be shorter or longer. I was just wondering, if you could help with some expressions, linkings and so on, so in the final result, of one my friends could move with the  whole camera (not just with one keyframe) using the SLIDER CONTROL. At least for the x and y axis, if z axis is also possible, it would be brilliant. It also doesn't matter how many sliders there will be .
    So basically with using the sliders, they should achieve this:
    So i need some helpful steps. Please help me. This is very important for me. I will be so much thankful!! Really! (Thanks for the potential help )

    You are way over thinking your problem and potentially headed down a path that will cause more problems that it will solve.
    If you have a camera path that is already animated and you want to change the position of the camera path as a whole the easiest way to do that would be to create a null and then parent the camera to the null. Move the null and all of the camera movements you have set up will follow. No expressions are needed. This is the easiest way to change every aspect of a motion path, rotate the entire path, scale the path, or move the path on any axis.
    If you really want to use 3 position sliders to move existing keyframes to a new value adding value + expressions values will allow you to do this. Just add an three expression control sliders to the camera layer (or any layer like the null you are using as a parent) select the name of the slider in the ECW and press enter and rename it. Something like this will be the result.
    Notice that I also have rotation and scale controls in this setup. Now that you have 3 sliders you can separate the position property of the null into individual values enable expressions in each property and type in value +, then use the pickwhip to drag from the X value to your slider named xPosition (in my example) and repeat for each operation. The value + will add the value of the slider to the current value of the position keyframes. The expression will look like this for X:
    value + effect("x position")("Slider")
    If you want to use sliders I would use a null, add expression controls to the null for position, scale, and rotation, keep the camera position property unified and then use your expression control sliders on the null to modify your existing path. I would not suggest doing this directly on camera position with separated X, Y and Z values because this will change the shape of your camera path and would be more difficult to control. You'll probably also want to create a camera POInull and use this preset to tie the camera's point of interest to the null.
    Here's an animation preset you can apply to a null that will give complete control to the motion path of any animated layer you make the child of this null. Search Animation Preset in the After Effects Search Help field if you do not know how to use them, create them, and save them.
    As a final gimme, here's a CS6 project using this animation preset to control a null's position that used to change an animated camera path.

  • Why most of the pages of my site are named "About me" if none have that name in the side bar nor in the inspector?

    Here is my site for you to see what I am talking about; http://www.minkstereo.com  after you enter, if you go to each of the menus you will notice that only Books and Ilustrations is named correctly in the tab, if you go to Drawings, Graphic Design, Crafts or any of the images you'll see that the page name is "About me" I have republished and check all over the page in iweb and I don't know why it is happening. Each page has a different name in accordance with the content both in the side bar and in the inspector it shows.
    Any help is appreciated thank you.

    Your images shows how to change the pagename, the filename. of the page.
    Not the browser title.
    Anyway, there is a textbox out of view that holds the title :
    Beats me what it is doing there, but here is the oft repeated explanation :
    iWeb uses the textbox in the Header layer of an iWeb page as the title in the browserwindow.
    If the textbox in the Header is missing, iWeb uses a textbox down the page in the Content layer. If that textbox is also missing, it uses another textbox. If that fails it uses the pagename in the Sidebar. To replace a missing textbox in the Header, choose another theme and then change it back to the original one.
    Sometimes you may want a different text in the titlebar and not display it on the page itself. Or not display it at all.
    So use that textbox in the Header layer. Type your text. Do Command-T to open the font palette and make the font smaller (Or do Command--(minus)). Then select the textbox. In the Inspector choose T, click a color to open the color palette and drag the opacity slider to 0 (zero).
    Resize the textbox. You may want to change the height of the Header layer.
    Do Command-Shift-B to move the textbox to the back, possibly behind other objects.
    Next add a optional second textbox to the Header layer and use that one to display text on the page.
    If you want to move the textbox to the front again to make changes, but can't remember the location on the page, drag the area with the mouse to select the objects.
    Deselect objects you do not want to move forward by Command-dragging  the mouse over these objects.
    Next do Command-Shift-F to move the textbox to the front. Repeat the steps in reverse order to make the text visible.

  • New to iMovie - Slide Show project

    I've been lurking in the iMovie discussions for a couple of months now, and I'm trying to absorb the knowledge of the community. I'm also working my way through "The Missing Manual" which is invaluable. I have two projects in mind, so I'm starting two threads to ask for advice.
    First is my "Slide Show" project. I have around two thousand jpeg pictures from my daughter's wedding, and I'd like to put together a DVD of the wedding. This sounds fairly straightforward to me, but I'd like your advice on my plan.
    The project starts with an outline on paper of the structure of the project - starting with David Pogue's "22 Shots for Your Wedding Video" from the Missing Manual.
    Question 1: I'm thinking of a 20 to 30 minute show, with each slide on screen for 3 to 4 seconds, and a simple cross dissolve between most pictures - maybe a Ken Burns Effect thrown in as a transition between sections, say between the church and the reception. Is this a reasonable length and plan?
    Question 2: I'm thinking of using a series of approximately one-minute music clips for the sound. Many years ago, in a different forum, I read a comment that the sound track was more difficult than the video, so I was thinking of putting the music together first, and laying the pictures over it. I'm planning to use Amadeus II to build the audio track, with fades from song to song. Then maybe just import the 20 or 30-minute sound track into iMovie and fit the video by adjusting each picture's duration. Is this a reasonable plan? Would I be better off to feed iMovie smaller chunks at a time?
    Question 3: With no disrespect to iPhoto, I've grown up using Graphic Converter and so I plan to use it to shuffle through the 2000 pictures, sort and select those I want to use, and then crop them to 720 x 528 (or 1.364:1) for use without the Ken Burns effect. I realize that part of the elegance of iMovie is it's integration with the i-Suite, but is there any other downside to this plan?
    Question 4: I also understand that I do not want to let iMovie render my stills, but to let iDVD do it. To do this, I would just quit my project without letting iMovie render it, and then open it in iDVD, correct?
    Sorry for the length of this post - I've been thinking a lot about this project, but it's time to start doing rather than just thinking!
    Thanks,
    Joe

    the Music first is the way I think animatours usually do it. I would at least.
    Q3: I would Create a new folder "Photos" and with GraphicConverter™ convert
    them to high quality jpegs and into the new folder. I wouldn't do anything about
    size but let iMovie do it's job. If some photos showes up flickerings premiary
    in thin lines. (You need to connect Your miniDV camera to Your Mac and to
    a TV-set to be able to judg final quality). Then I would manually open each of
    them in PhotShop and add a little "Gaussian blurr" to them.
    Of course crop to right size first.
    I-sight - I have no experience of it - sorry.
    Q4: I do it another way.
    a) Close iMovie
    b) find the project icon/folder
    c) Ctrl-click on it and Show package.
    d) in this there are a folder -> Shared Movies -> iDVD
    e) in this there is a QT movie nnnnnnn.mov
    - You can test this with QT-player to see that it is OK -
    START A NEW iDVD project - so that old material will not interfere.
    f) drop this into an open theme in iDVD (just inside the edge of the
        window) and save it as a desktop image
    (if iDVD prior HD/5 You have to add a hack to make this possibly
    named HPfurz and install it)
    Test this with Apple DVD-player - OK then burn it with iDVD
    or Toast if You have and don’t want to re-code the movie.
    (in iDVD 5 You can drop Your iMovie project icon directly into a theme window)

  • Slide order in the timeline

    I have been shown how to do a very specific task in Flash Pro CS5. I have five slides in my timeline, with buttons that include links to product pages on our website. These five slides comprise a movie, with each slide being displayed for a few seconds and it repeatedly cycles through the five slides in a banner at the top of our home page.
    In addition there is a navigation bar below my slide images with a play and pause option, plus the five slide numbers so the viewer can navigate from slide to slide manually.
    I have been asked to change the order of the slides so that slide #5 now becomes slide #1 and slide #1 becomes slide #2, and so on. I can easily switch the images and links so that the slides are in a different order in my file, but now the navigation bar below does not work. In the Actions panel, the #1 button in the navigation bar still appears to be linked to slide 1, which now has the new images, yet the nav bar does not respond to clicks anymore.
    How was my nav bar disabled when I switched the images and links around between the slides? and how can I correct this?
    (Keep in mind, I know NOTHING else about Flash except how to replace the images and change the button links in each slide, which I do monthly, as this is the top banner on our website.)

    Thanks so much for your reply, Rob.
    The slides are on the timeline and each one is displayed as the playback head moves from one frame to another. I do this in my file by dragging the red rectangle with the red line extending from below it across the timeline, which is on a layer that the original author named MC Content. However, when I go to the layer called Scene 1 where the navigation bar is, the red rectangle at top will not move when I try to drag it.
    I don't know what the action script does except to link my button to a page on our website. The code looks like this for slide 1.
    slide1_1_btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, myButtonFunction5_1);
    function myButtonFunction5_1(event: MouseEvent) {
    var request:URLRequest = new URLRequest("http://www.tobaccofreecatalog.org/ProductDetails.aspx?id=2&itemno=J660");
    navigateToURL(request,"_self");
    I don't know if the slides use actionscript to show and hide each one.
    Now that I look at it, maybe all I need to do is change myButtonFunction5_1 to myButtonFunction1_1 on the above code?
    I don't know how to answer your last question. The individual images for each slide are jpegs I created in InDesign, but I don't know how they are referenced or what that means.
