NamingException when trying to lookup DataSource (Oracle)

I am using Sun 6.1 Web Server with Oracle 9i, and we are evaluating these products (so no support contract).
I have a connection pool configured as follows:
<RESOURCES>
<JDBCCONNECTIONPOOL name="foo_pool" datasourceclassname="oracle.jdbc.pool.OracleDataSource" steadypoolsize="8" maxpoolsize="32" poolresizequantity="2" idletimeout="300" maxwaittime="60000" connectionvalidationrequired="on" connectionvalidationmethod="meta-data" validationtablename="" failallconnections="off" transactionisolationlevel="read-committed" isolationlevelguaranteed="off">
<PROPERTY name="URL" value="jdbc:oracle:thin:@XX.XX.XX.XXX:1521:oracledv"/>
<PROPERTY name="User" value=" . . . "/>
<PROPERTY name="Password" value=" . . . "/>
</JDBCCONNECTIONPOOL>
<JDBCRESOURCE jndiname="jdbc/foo_pool" poolname="foo_pool" enabled="on"/>
</RESOURCES>
Of course the user and password values are filled in.
The foo_pool object is there within the JDBC context, and the class of the object as reported by listBindings is javax.sql.DataSource.
I am trying to lookup the DataSource from a JSP deployed within a web app.
However, I am getting a NamingException with the explanation "cannot create resource instance". The cause and rootCause Throwable fields of this NamingException are null (big help that is).
The line that causes the exception is the one that invokes lookup on the "jdbc" sub context, with the parameter "foo_pool".
I have set up JDBC connection pools to Oracle in the past using WebLogic and JBoss, so I am at least somewhat competent at this. Still somehow I get the feeling that some class is missing, or there is an attempt to instantiate the wrong class or an incompatible class, but since there is no information beyond "cannot instantiate" I have no idea where else to look, after having googled until I am blue in the face.
Can anyone help?
Thanks,
Erik

  • Getting 404 error when trying to login to Oracle EBS page

    Hi,
    I had installed Oracle EBS 12.0.4 last year and everything was running fine until last week. Last week, we suddenly started seeing this issue - when trying to login to the Oracle EBS page, we are getting the 404 page not found error.
    I have EBS installed on 2 VMs (virtual machines) - one VM has the application server and other VM has the database server. I logged on to the aplpication server to do some debugging and noticed 2 things ->
    1.The Oracle Fullfillment service was not running. I started it, it was up for some time but then it stopped on its own. This happens everytime - after successfully starting the service, it shuts down after sometime. There is nothing in the event viewer except this message "The service may have terminated abnormally, please see the log file generated by the service for more details." I checked the log file, but there is nothing significant inside the log file. Maybe I need to increase the log level. Can any one tell me how can I do that?
    2. Reviver.exe was crashing intermitently on the application server. I belive reviver tries to establish the connection between the application and database server after its broken.
    So I am thinking now that maybe the connection between the app server and the database server is getting broken intermittenlty and this is the root cause of all the problems.
    I dont know how to verify whethe my analysis is correct or not? And it it is, how to resolved it? Is there a setting or a configuration file in which you have to specify the database server details (ip address / host name etc). Can you tell me where can I find this setting?
    Or culd there be something altogether different that is causing the page not found error?
    Thanks in advance,
    Megha

    Hussein,
    The problem is partially solved - I am not getting the 404 error now. The issue was not with the netsvc file. Please see the resolution in NOTE:412980.1 (oafm,forms and oacore not starting up after IP adress change).
    The OC4J services are imperative for any URL for java code. With just the Apache listener running, examples of URLS that will work are ->
    http://HOST.DOMAIN:PORT/OA_MEDIA/FNDLOGOL.gif
    http://HOST.DOMAIN:PORT/
    Any URL for Java code will fail at this stage when OC4J services are down. For example this URL will fail: http://myHost.oracle.com:8000/OA_HTML/ServletPing.
    But now, I am getting 500 Internal server error. Let me know if you kno anything about this error ->

  • "stack overflow" when trying to connect with Oracle ODBC

    Hi,
    I'm trying to connect to Oracle DB (8.1.7.3.0) from WinNT 4.0 SP6 with Oracle ODBC driver 8.0.6.6.0. I've been trying to connect with "Oracle ODBC Test" and with "MS Query". In either way I end up with Dr. Watson reporting about "stack overflow". Before starting to upgrade ODBC driver I wanted to ask - should these versions of driver and DB work together at all (even unofficially)? Or may I be missing some other thing? Any hints, ideas are welcome.

  • ORA-12154 error when trying to connect to Oracle 11g DB from Excel 2010

    All,
    I am trying to set up Excel 2010 64-bit to connect to an Oracle 11g database, but am having some trouble due to an "ORA-12154 could not resolve the connect identifier specified" error. I am able to TNSping the SID name, as well as connect to SQLplus. The TNS entry works, and the Oracle Home is in the right spot. I am even able to put the full connection string in the "Data Source" field when creating a data link in Excel and have it connect to the DB. But I would like to be able to create one that used the SID rather than the full connection string, as other users will have to use this. The developer behind the Excel solution created a number of .odc files to connect to various databases, so this gives extra weight behind figuring out how to connect via a SID rather than a full connection string. Any suggestions?

    If you are able to connect with sqlplus, then this really becomes a question of how to define a data connection in Excel.
    But after quickly googling ..
    In excel ...
    "Data" tab
    "from other sources"
    "from data connection wizard"
    select ODBC DSN
    On data link properties, select the "connection" tab
    select "Use Data Source Name" and hit the drop-down
    select a dsn that you had previously set up to point to the oracle database.
    Anyway, that looks like how it is supposed to be done.  I'm getting a dll initialization error.  Probably due to the fact I have both 32-bit and 64-bit oracle clients, and windows never handles that very gracefully.  But then Windows never graceffully handles anything that isn't MicroSoft.   To paraphrase Forest Gump, "My momma always said Windows was like a box of chocolates.  You never know what you're going to get."
    In any event, the error you report means it was actually tying to look it up in tnsnames, but what you supplied wasn't found there.  That can also be a big issue when dealing with MS products, because they don't use the same terminology, so lead people into entering something other than what Oracle expects.  Are you referencing an ODBC DSN?  If so, have you tested that apart from Excel?

  • ORA-24777 when trying to call multiple Oracle SPs...

    I had a SP in Oracle that called another SP in a SQL Server DB via DBLink. I was calling the Oracle SP from VB.NET (3.5) and because of transaction commiting I was not able to do this, so I removed the SQL SERVER SP call from inside the Oracle SP. However, I still get a ORA-24777 error: use of non-migratable database link not allowed.
    If I removed the reference to the other DB, why would I still get an error referencing the DBLINK?
    I'm using Oracle 10.2 and VB.NET (3.5).
    old SP CODE:
    I have a package called USP_VALIDATION
    In the package body, I was calling BATCH(Queue, RefNo) [a procedure in USP_VALIDATION]
    In this BATCH procedure, I would call SP_GET_BILLING_OPTION_TCIS(accNo, lclBillingOption) [note TCIS is the SQL DB and lclBillingOption would be the TCIS billing option]
    ... do something with lclBillingOption
    I changed this to the following:
    In the package body, I now call BATCH(Queue, RefNo, BillingOption)
    In this new BATCH procedured, I now DON'T call SP_GET_BILLING_OPTION_TCIS as I already retrieved it first before I call USP_VALIDATION in the .NET code
    ... do something with the BillingOption passed in as a parameter when calling BATCH.
    What I'm really trying to do is make sure that the transaction commitment/rollback is handled correctly in the following senario.
    What happened before was because the one SP was calling another SQL database via DBLINK, it was not working correctly. So we removed the DBLINK and now call the SQL database before we do any action with the Oracle SPs.
    Here is my code in .NET:
    Public Function EnrollElectricCustomer(ByVal EnrollParameters As IEnrollmentParameters) As IEnrolleSearch Implements Interfaces.IEnrollmentManager.EnrollElectricCustomer
            Dim dacRCES As New Dac.RC.EnrolleeDataService()

                ' comment - here I go to SQL Server to get the Billing Option instead of doing it thru DBLINK
                oBillingOption = dacRCAS.GetCurrentBillingOption(EnrollParameters.CssAccountNumber, oServiceType)
                Using MainTranScope
                    'first save the Enrollment record to the Enroll Queue

                    oCustomerAccount = oColCSSAccounts.Item(0)
                    refreshstring = business.BuildRefreshString(oCustomerAccount)
                    dacRCES.RefreshElectricAccount(refreshstring)
                    'once refreshed, we need to also run VALIDATION on this enrollent record...
    *' NOTE THAT THIS SP used to CALL SQL via DBLINK but no longer does....*
                    dacRCES.ValidateElectricEnrollment(WorkQID,oBillingOption)
                    'once validated, we also have to submit the record....
                    dacRCES.SubmitElectricEnrollment(WorkQID)
                    MainTranScope.Complete()

                Throw
            End Try
            Return enrolleeSearch
        End FunctionI'm concerned that if any one of the various calls fails, I want to rollback the ENTIRE transaction. Right now I
    a) insert the row into a table in Oracle,
    b) get detailed information on this account from another database (DB2),
    c) refresh the data in the Oracle DB on this account,
    d) validate the record added (business rules) and then when all done,
    e) to submit the account (which changes statuses for later use).
    If I insert the record but it fails at step d say, I want to rollback everything and remove the record from the Oracle table...

    EDIT1:
    You posted an edit including code while I was typing original response.
    You may find the following My Oracle Support note helpful. It applies to ODP.NET as well.
    ORA-24777 When Selecting Across a Database Link With Microsoft OLE DB Provider for Oracle [ID 397555.1]
    Just to confirm - is the database link used at all now?
    I know you said that the stored procedure is no longer called, but is the link still used for anything else?
    Also, do you have a call stack from when the exception is raised?

    Title was being interpretted by forums and resulted in unusable title

    I was running into this same problem and found what is either a workaround or a solution. I have a XIr2 report that I defined to use a single Java Beans Connectivity connection, and 2 resultsets from this connection as the datasources ( i.e. MyReportDatasource.getResultSet1() and MyReportDatasource.getResultSet2() ). When I tried running my app, which was using JRC to populate the report datasources, I would get that 'Cannot modify a read-only collection' exception when I called getDatabaseController().setDataSource() on the second resultset.
    To get past the error, I had to redefine the second resultset in the report as coming from a different JBC connection, so the end result was the report using 2 resultsets that come from 2 different JBC connections ( i.e. MyReportDataSource.getResultSet() and MySecondReportDataSource.getResultSet() ). When I did this, the report ran successfully. It looks like JRC doesn't like it when you to use multiple resultsets from the same JBC connection.

  • Issues when trying to connect to Oracle database

    Hi
    We have set up a linked server in SQL Server to connect to an Oracle database. We are using SQL Server 2008 R2 Enterprise (64 bit) on Windows Server 2008 and Oracle client 11g 11.02.00.01 connecting to Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition Release 11.2.0.1.0 - 64bit Production using UTF8.
    Most tables are selectable without error, however, we got this error message for some:
    Msg 7347, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
    OLE DB provider 'OraOLEDB.Oracle' for linked server 'OurLinkedServer' returned data that does not match expected data length for column '[OraOLEDB.Oracle].Ourfieldname'. The (maximum) expected data length is 6, while the returned data length is 2.
    This error message refers to a column of type char(3)
    Will the characterset cause this error (I’ve read that SQL Server doesn’t support UTF8)?
    If not, is there some other resolution that anyone can think of?
    Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
    Thanks a lot!

  • Undocumented ODBC Error when trying an insert on ORACLE 8 from ACCESS97

    Hi
    I have a application with ACCESS 97 dealing with Oracle 8.1.7
    The ODBC Driver version is 8.01.06
    The connecting chain is : ODBC;DRIVER={Oracle ODBC Driver};DBQ=DP3_IST;" & _
    "DBA=W;APA=T;FEN=T;QTO=T;FRC=10;FDL=10;LOB=T;RST=T;FRL=F;MTS=T;CSR=F;PFC=10;TLO=0;
    I have no problems for reading with select but when i try to execute an insert,
    i get the following error message: " reserved error (-7778); there is no message for this error "
    It work's when using the "Microsoft ODBC for Oracle 2.573.3711.00" and unfortunatly i'm not allowed to use it.
    Does anyone know what was the problem?
    Regards
    Pierre-Yves LAGRAVERE

    The two lines you quote aren't errors, they're warnings and they're pretty standard fare. If there isn't anything else in the ODBC log, then the driver isn't returning any errors. I'm not sure why Access is failing, so let's look at the client configuration first.
    - I assume you've successfully installed the 8.1.6 client on the machine with Access. Were there any errors during the install?
    - You say you're using the 8.1.6 version of the Oracle ODBC driver-- can you look to see what the last digit of the version is? If possible, I'd start by downloading the most recent 8.1.6.x ODBC driver from OTN.
    - Check which version of the MDAC you have installed (new versions & a version checker are available from Microsoft at <http://www.microsoft.com/data>.
    - The ODBC driver you download above will list which versions of the MDAC it is expected to work with. Make sure your version is one of the listed versions.

  • Crystal crashes when trying to "Set Datasource Location"

    Hi,
    My client's Crystal app (version 9) crashes when she attempts to remap a report using the "Set datsource Location". Basically, as soon as she selects it, she gets a msg ..something like "CRw32.exe error" and the app bombs.
    Any ideas on what may cause this folks ??
    thx a lot,
    Steve

    Open the report up and Click on Database, Set Location, find ODBC in the list and connect using your DSN. Now select your DB and tables, varies so you may have just click on the OLE DB connection and the n DSN and click Update button or you may have to do this for each table also.

    Where can I find the initial NamingException?

    Hi All,
    Thanks for your replies and SORRY for my late response.
    Now, what I actually want is that though my UME is connected to LDAP i want to the portal admin to be able to create users in the portal DB. I checked my UME configuration and it says
    Microsoft ADS (Deep Hheirarchy) + Database
    and the name of the configuration file is
    dataSourceConfiguration_ads_deep_writeable_db.xml
    Now I could not understand why I am not able to create users in the DB?
    Does the portal has any restriction like at any given point of time only one of the user stores can be active? Doesnt the portal allow both the user stores to be active at a time?
    regards,

  • ODBC ORACLE connection issue when trying to create a datastore. SAP Ds 3.2

    I am at a client and I am trying to create an Oracle data store.  I have an Oracle client installed on my laptop and an ORACLE driver.  I can connect and query Oralce tables using Oralce tools on my laptop.
    When I go to SAP DS to create a datastore I get an error message "Cannot find NT Oracle Server DLL <OCI.dll>  Make sure Oracle has been installed and the PATH variable has been set"
    The PATH is set correctly.
    Creating a data store using Database Oracle give the above message.
    If I try using ODBC it cannot find the oracle drive in the system list.
    HELP

    Hello
    Are you using a supported version of Oracle?  I hope it's not Oracle 7!
    This is probably an installation issue, where is Data Services installed?  If its Program Files (x86), try re-installing in C:\SAP or similar.
    Your comment <<If I try using ODBC it cannot find the oracle drive in the system list.>>  makes me wonder if the the Oracle client is not installed properly.

    Have you recently patched/upgraded? This sounds like there might have been a problem relinking the executables / libraries, and/or a permissions problem. For example you may be referencing a 32 bit library with your 64 bit client.
    I believe I recently read a similar case - check Metalink for this symptom.
