Nano works my Shuffle don't

Hi all,
New to this forum so probably been asked before but:
I have had an Ipod Nano for about six months which works fine with my PC. I then won an Ipod Shuffle at Tesco's for recycling my bottles in their machine, (see, someone does win these competitions).
The shuffle does absolutely nothing when plugged in, the CD that came with it gets so far and then an error message comes up. I have even bought a dock but it still doesn't acknowledge that I have plugged anything in.
I am using a powered hub with docking station.
Itunes was installed when I got the Nano (do I need to update to recognise the Shuffle?)
Thanks!

Error 1639. Invalid command line argument. Consult Windows Installer SDK for detailed command line help.
During the install it asks me to switch the Shuffle on to see if it needs to be formatted, then nothing happens.

  • IPod nano works with USB 1.1 but not USB 2.0

Anyone using an iPod nano that works with USB 1.1 but not with USB 2.0? I am using Windows XP and when installing the iPod software from CD it recognizes the iPod and am able to transfer songs using iTunes but when installing SP1 or SP2 to enable USB 2.0 transfers, Windows XP only recognizes the iPod nano as a USB Mass Storage Device. This is the same with iPod Updater.

I have a similar problem with the following configuration:
    - Dell Dimension 4100 Desktop with 2 integrated USB 1.1 ports, Windows 2000 SP 4
    - PCI 6-Ports USB 2.0 Card ("Mentor" resp. www.bona.com.tw), Model USB20-PCI/6P
    What works well?
    - All my USB add-ons (1.1 and 2.0) on the internal 1.1 ports as well as on the USB2.0 PCI card
    - iPod Nano 4GB on internal 1.1 ports (external drive in windows 2000 as well as iPod in iTunes)
    - iPod Nano works as well as on the USB 2.0 card ONLY WHEN my old 4-port USB1.1 hub is connected between Nano and USB card
    What doesn't works?
My iPod Nano directly connected to the USB 2.0 card. Symptoms when connecting:
    - Windows is very slow, process "scvhost.exe" or "system.exe" using 99% of CPU for some minutes
    - iPod is recognised as external drive, but when I click on it, it is empty and copying files to it results in "I/O error"
    - iTunes doesn't recognise the iPod (of course, if even windows itself cannot read from it...)
I removed all USB drivers, reinstalled iTunes, iPod (by the way, I still don't understand what "iPod update" is good for, except for updating the iPod's firmware), deactivate the internal USB1.1 ports, no result.

  • IPod Nano and iPod Shuffle not recognized by my iMac

I'm new to Mac and just purchased a Nano and a Shuffle.  I spent the weekend transferring music from iTunes to both devices without any issues.  A few hours later I went to transfer additional songs and my Mac would not recognize either device.  The screen on my Nano says"Connected - Eject before disconnecting".  My shuffle blinks orange.  That's it...I have reset the Nano and nothing changes.  I'm hoping someone out there can help me.
    Thanks!

I had this problem with my MacBook. What finally worked was, while connected, toggling the hold switch on/off/on and then holding down the menu and center buttons until the apple logo appeared and it truly reset itself.

  • New nano- shake to shuffle?

I know it just came out today but does anyone know if the accelerometer can be disabled by the hold button? I want to but the new nano for workouts and don't know how anyone is going to be able to wear it and run or jog or cycle- will it keep shuffling every time you move?
    Thanks

    According to the user guide...
    http://manuals.info.apple.com/enUS/iPod_nano_4th_genUserGuide.pdf
the shake function for shuffling is configurable in the menu system to turn it on or off AND when you put the hold switch on, it also disabled movement activations including shuffling.
So your answer is... yes, the hold switch will keep it from shuffling.

    Patrick

I changed the password to my ipod but it isn't working and I don't want to restore it. Is there a way of getting rid of the pass word or un-disabling my device?????

Connect the iOS device to your computer and try to make a backup.
    iOS: How to back up
Then restore via iTunes. Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode if necessary to allow the restore.
If recovery mode does not work try DFU mode.

    For how to restore:

    To restore from backup see:
    iOS: How to back up
If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.
You can redownload iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store

  • 2 of my movies are no longer working in my iTunes or on my iPod Touch, One doesn't play at all and the other gets to about 29:00 than stops working and I don't want to buy them again. What's happening?

2 of my movies are no longer working in my iTunes or on my iPod Touch, One doesn't play at all and the other gets to about 29:00 than stops working and I don't want to buy them again. Then also when I added a non-iTunes movie and tried to have iTunes make an iPod/IPhone version it gave me error -4. What's happening to my movies?

I also have to add that the right earbud only doesn't work on my phone while i'm listening to music. If I'm face timing it's okay. what the heck.

  • Does ipod nano work with ipod photo dock, s-video out?

Does the ipod nano work with the ipod photo dock, with an s-video out? Will apple make one for the nano specifically?

The iPod nano cannot show photos on an external device, I suspect Apple have not built this feature into the hardware. The options for showing to a TV are not in the photo menus either.

  • My Iris Preset stopped working and I don't know how to fix it. Help?

My Iris Preset stopped working and I don't know how to fix it.It worked on one picture and now it isn't working anymore. I cannot figure out why. Google failed me.

This may occur if you are connected to the Internet and iTunes is trying to connect to the iTunes Store and fails for some unknown reason.
    Try this:
Quit iTunes and disconnect completely from the Internet.
IF you have an iPhone (iPod etc), open iTunes. Sync the device.
    Re-enable your Internet connection.
    Quit iTunes.
    Open iTunes again.
If this does not work, try completely uninstalling iTunes, then reinstall it according to these instructions:

I suggest that you look at
    http://graphicssoft.about.com/od/pselements/Photoshop_Elements_Tutorials_and_User_Resource s.htm
where Sue Chastain has written multiple tutorials with screen shots and instructions. Now they may not be video format, but they do have the screen shots to show you the actions.
    >if i dont buy 6 and my trial finishes what will happen to any work i have done when i start using 4 again?
In general - any photos that you have imported from your camera and the edited photo files will remain on your hard drive. However, many/most of the changes you have made in the Organizer work space will be lost.
You will need to import the photo files done in v6 again once you switch back to v4: if you originally imported from your camera in v6, you would now import from the hard drive location after going back to v4. If you saved in a Version Set in v6, that version set will not exist in v4 - so you will have separate thumbnails for the original and the edited photo.
It may be possible to keep some of the newly applied tags because PSE does sometimes write Tags to the photo file itself. I think that the Write Tags to File command still exists in v6.
Hopefully someone who has done this fallback will post detailed information.
