Narrow audio strip.

When I transfer audio tracks to FCP 10.1.3, I get a narrow band without visible wave forms or volume level adjustment ranges. How do I  get them back?  My Mac has 16GB of memory with a 3.4 GHz intel Corei5 processor using 10.9.5 version

It doesn't seem to matter.  Every icon only seems too address the video clips.

  • No 'audio strip' on mpg in FCP

Hello - I have an mpg file that plays perfectly when opened up from an email, and also from a disk. However, when I go import it into a Final Cut project, the video plays, but with no audio, and there is no audio file attached. How can this be? Thanks!

MPEG files usually have the audio embedded, instead of being in a separate track.
Try using a program called MPEG Streamclip to demux the mpeg file to a Quicktime Movie, then import that into FCP.

  • Completely Lost Audio to PP Glitch. Tight Deadline. Urgent

Right in the middle of an edit the sound dropped out completely. Well no big deal, this happens sometimes in PP. I restarted the App but it was still the same. On all my sequences what's even more odd is that all the waveforms were gone but the original files were still being referenced and the audio would play fine in the source monitor just not the timeline. I then opened an autosave to find that the waveforms returned but still no audio on the timeline (no audio meters either). If I match framed a clip then performed an insert edit the sound for that clip would play again. Sounds like a fix. Wrong if I close the project and reopen then those files that are new on the timeline are muted also. Somehow every sequence is this way? Even in the autosaves?
    TROUBLESHOOTING:
I've tried changing my audio hardware to 4 different sources.
    Rebooted machine.
Imported the project into a completely fresh project with no results.
Exported an XML and imported into a fresh project SOL.
    Reset PP preferences.
    Updated from 7.1 to 7.2.1 - NOPE
And for the big finale. Did a full reinstall.
This worked!!! For a day. Until this morning. Now I'm right back where I started except I've done a lot more work. All sequences have no audio meters again.
One more test: I created a completely new project and imported just a sequence from the original project. That sequence came in and all the clips with it have audio stripped. No waveforms present. This is really bizarre. If I bring one of the original clips in from the finder and put it on the timeline there is audio until I save and reopen then that one clip does the exact same thing. If I open any other project besides this one the audio plays.
Can someone please give me insight into what's going on. BTW no tracks are muted manually this happened right in the middle of an edit and somehow effects all autosaved versions of this project. Any help is much appreciated since there is no way I can redo this in another edit package with the time I have left.

    Hi Reuben,
Thanx for starting this thread and giving this major problem a serious consideration. And thanx to Kevin for coming up with a solution.
Last week we here in Copenhagen had exact same problem on two out of our three different editing rooms - all with different specs. (All running Premiere 7.2.1 on OS X 10.8.5 and 10.9.2 has the sound problem but OS X 10.7.5 hasn't) No updates has been done while working on the projects.
We also use Plural Eyes and solved it first with a lot of match framing, but it became worse and worse so we are very happy with the suggested workaround via AfterEffects.
It takes 5-10 minutes to do the workaround - But the audio keyframes is gone from the timeline.
The keyframes are intact under the volume Level bar in the effects control panel so that is fine.
But what is not so good, is that I lost all the audio effects like compressor and limiter, so I will have to make the soundmix again if the client has any changes.
My theory is that the whole project becomes twisted over time when more and more sequences is created and more and more renders are done. Don't no why. Just guessing that the number of renderfiles is causing the confussion.
Because my first sequence which I didn't touch for weeks now also lost the link to the audio files.
I tried to make all sound offline and reconnect - didn't help. I also tried to delete the Media Cache files - didn't help.
I doubt that Plural Eyes is the cause of problems, because the music files that I use is also missing waveforms now and hence also no sound there.
Luckily I exported a final sound mix but I have to import the final sound mix again each time the project has been closed and started again.
I now vaguely remembers that I tried to do some sound adjustments on one clip in Adobe Audition and the problems with missing sound began after that.
Hmm - not sure. How about you Reuben? Do you use Audition?
And I didn't quite understand - do you now use Plural Eyes in After Affects or do you make the import and export workaround with After Effects after you synced the audio in Premiere?
Does Adobe have any idea on when this bug is fixed? Are we talking weeks or months?
    Kind Regards

  • Images with attached audio clips and slideshows

My old Minolta camera could save an audio WAV file with an image, but I've never been successful in using the audio file (same name as the image) in iPhoto.  I'm just starting out playing with Aperature 3 and see that I can import these easily.  However, when I try to make a slideshow, some of the clips need to be trimmed for length, noise, etc.  In the Info Inspector I can easily 'trim' the clip to what I want, but I don't seem to be able to do anything with it.  When setting up the slideshow, I can see all the WAV files when I click on the Music Note button, the edited clip length shows, and plays as it did in the Info Inspector.  But when dragging the file to the correct image in the slideshow, only the original WAV file gets used and not the trimmed one.  I suppose I can make the original files work by fiddling with the secondary audio strip by fading in and truncating, but why can't I just use the new metadata?  This make any sense to anyone and can anyone help this beginner?  Thanks

    Hi James,
I am listening to embedded training files on the Quick Time player (I think). They cannot be copied to protect the information.  You only have the option of listening.   I used to be able to click on the Q in the audio strip and it would provide a diagonal arrow and this would allow me to expand the bar to a full screen. I then had the bar which would allow me to navigate in case I wanted to listen again or in case I wanted to move forward.  After my upgrade, I can no longer expand the strip to a full screen with the adjuster.  Now I have not chance to take a break in listening to these audios and most of them are at least an hour long.  Thanks for your help.

  • How do you cut out a part of an audio recording?

Lets say I recorded a guitar solo but the last note of it didn't sound to good. I want to cut this one little portion of the audio recording off. How would I do this? I've tried double clicking the audio strip, highlighting the part to cut, and pressing delete but sometimes it completely changes the position of the track in the sequencer. Please help me out. Thanks a lot!!!

    Hi,
From your post, I see that you are very new to audio recording on a computer.
I HIGHLY recommend you buy a book on this subject. There are many out there, I suggest this one

  • Can anyone tell me how to get rid of the white stripe?

There is a narrow white stripe just above the container on this site and I can't figure out how to get rid of it. Do you know? http://lowellforte.com/
It doesn't appear above the right sidebar which is yellow right now. Thank you.

You could also try positioning the image using a code like this:
    body {
        background-image: url('http://lowellforte.com/images/1264xindex.jpg');
        background-position: 1264px 963px;
Change the dimensions to suit your style.  963px is chosen here because the stripe is about 5px give or take 1px either side.

  • My output channel strip is in the middle of my mixer. How can I replace it next to the master?

In the mixer window of Logic Pro the output channel strip has moved to the middle of the audio strips. How can I move it back to its usual spot next to the master strip?

Sounds like you have created an Aux track for your Output channel strip, and the position of that track on the arrange page now determines the place of the output channel strip on your mixer. So, you'll have to move that track so it is the bottom track in the arrangement, then the output channel strip in the mixer should move to the right again.
It is a sorely missed (and often requested) feature to be able to move channel strips around freely in the mixer.

Hi Matt - the following extract from iMovie Help should get you back on track:
    From iMovie '11 Help ( http://help.apple.com/imovie/#mov3b0fbc0a )
To pin background music to video
In the Project browser, move the pointer along the upper-left edge of the background music well until it turns into a hand, and then drag the top-left corner of the background music well slowly to the right. A pin icon appears in the corner of the background music well, and the background color changes from green to purple.
Continue dragging the pin until it’s positioned above the video frame where you want the music to begin playing. The background music well turns to purple, indicating it’s been pinned to a video frame.
After you pin music to a video frame, unless you “unpin” it, the music stays with that frame even if you rearrange the order of your video clips.
    To unpin background music
If you’ve pinned background music to a video frame and now you want to rearrange the background music clips in your movie, you can unpin it.
In the Project browser, click to select the background music well (it becomes outlined in yellow), and then choose Clip > Unpin Music Track.
The Clip menu appears in a light gray bar across the top of your computer screen.
Here's an alternative method for adding music to your video (which I use in preference to the back ground method) -
Rather than dragging the music to the grey background area, drag it directly on top of a video clip, close to where you want it to start. When you drop the music, a narrow green strip (bar/track) will appear below the video thumbnails. You can slide this back and forth in order to get it to start in the exact position. You can also drag the ends in to shorten or trim the music track. Or drag them out again to lengthen the track. You can also split the audio and show the audio waveforms, adjust volume within a track and so forth. Check iMovie Help for more details.

  • Officejet Pro 8500 A909g Wireless suddenly won't print yellow; no error messages

Is it possible that a printhead needs to be replaced even when Diagnostics Pages all say "Printhead health:  Good"?   I don't have any error messages.  There are no obvious white lines through the colored blocks on test pages.  In a couple of blocks on some test pages, there is one, very fine, barely visible line, but it's not the same on all pages.  (Today I've printed about a dozen test pages of three different kinds that have colored blocks on them, and there are no white lines like the ones shown in examples of bad test results.)   I have used the tool for cleaning the printheads many, many times today and have cleaned at all of the levels.  The ink level in the yellow cartridge is fine, and it's been working well until yesterday and today.
The printing of the five colored blocks on test pages is good, bright, and clear.  The only problem is that the block which is supposed to be a light orange color is only pink, and the block that is supposed to be green is only blue:  they are lacking yellow ink.
I haven't had any problems with the paper I've bought at Staples for six years (I also bought my printer at Staples ).  The printer is six years old but has not been used hard.  I use it regularly for a page or two a few times a week, so the printer isn't sitting idle for weeks at a time.
I read something in "help" information about using a straight pin to gently remove excess adhesive from the nozzle of a new ink cartridge, which didn't apply to my cartridge, but I decided to experiment anyway by pushing a pin through the nozzle of the partially-used, yellow ink cartridge,  The test page I printed after that is the page with just four colored blocks on it rather than the five blocks on a different test page.  This is the only time in two days that the yellow ink has printed.  However, it printed in a wide horizontal band a little streaked with gray in the middle of the block.  Then there are fairly wide white bands (no ink) both above and below the wide yellow/gray streaked band in the middle, and there are very narrow, yellow, horizontal strips  printed along the very top edge and the very bottom edge of the block.  In other words, the sequence of horizontal printing in this block only is:  narrow yellow strip, wide white band, very wide yellow/gray streaked band, wide white band, and narrow yellow strip.
It seems this might mean that some yellow ink actually got through after I'd poked the pin into the center of the nozzle of the partially-used ink cartridge?  However, when I tried printing the same test page again, there was no color, no ink showing at all where the partially-printed, yellow block had been on the previous test page.  There was only a totally blank, white space where the yellow test block was supposed to be.  The blue block, the red/pink block, and the black/gray block all printed well.
When nothing solved the problem of yellow ink not printing, I replaced the partially-used, yellow cartridge with a new yellow cartridge, but that didn't make a difference either:  the yellow ink is still not printing.  Yes, I use genuine HP ink cartridges.  I buy new ones whenever I need them -- never refill them or use any other brand but HP.
I used the alignment tool once to fix some slight wavering in the lines on a test page.  The lines are now perfectly straight.
I apologize for being so wordy, but I wanted to send all of the details that might help diagnose the problem.  I read other questions and answers in the forum about yellow ink not printing, but while there were some similiarities, none of them was 100% exactly like my experience with the problem.  What shall I try now?  Thank you for any suggestions.

    Good day.

  • Am I trying to reinvent the wheel?

    Hey, y'all-
I just wanted to throw this out to the general Mainstage community and get some feedback on it. Apologies in advance for length and over-explanation. I'm a keyboardist/programmer in the theatre world, with semi-extensive background in Kurzweil (K2500/K2600) keyboard programming, and I'm attempting to shift my paradigm to Mainstage/VSTs because of the flexibility, quality of sounds, and (I thought) ease of configuration. I'm also a computer programmer/systems engineer from long ago. So, coming from the K2600 modality, here's what I'm used to:
I have a set of instruments (what K2600 would call "programs"), which I build from keymapped samples, and maybe run through some DSP algorithms if I want to tweak them
I then use the instruments in sequentially arranged patches (K2600 "setups") in various layered combinations with themselves and each other to create the running order for a show
I have the ability within the show patches to do transpositions, volume/velocity alterations, and various magical hardware controller assignments
Coming to Mainstage, I've found a lot of parallels to the things I'm used to from the K2600, but there are a few things that don't seem to translate. Mainstage doesn't seem to be intuitively set up to establish a set of instruments (each singly instanced in memory) that one can then refer to from the actual patches one is going to use. The workaround seems to be channel strip aliasing, but this is poorly documented, and carries with it the issue of not being able to make per-patch modifications easily. For example, if I want my strings to be highly present in one patch, and then just a faint layer with another instrument in a different patch, aliasing doesn't work that great. The workaround for THAT seems to be to assign the audio output of my instrument channel strips to a bus, and then put audio channel strips in the individual patches that take that bus as an input and make my specific changes to that audio strip. That's OK, I guess, but it seems a bit kludgey, and also seems to cause random audio drop-outs while creating patches that require a Mainstage restart. And I'm still confronted with the problem that, if I want to use one instrument multiple times within one patch, I can't alias the same channel strip more than once. Here's a rather complicated workaround I came up with to solve most of this:
I put all my instrument channel strips at concert level, and assign each one a different audio output bus (but I delete the concert-level audio strips that are automatically created by doing that)
I create keyboard hardware inputs for each instrument (and make them really tiny so they can hide in a corner unobtrusively), and make the MIDI input for each keyboard a different IAC bus (I make the IAC bus numbering the same as the audio output bus numbering, just to keep things simple, so, for example, IAC bus 1 is the input for the keyboard sending to Strings, and then Strings send their audio output to Mainstage bus 1)
I make a patch set called "Base Patches", and then create a patch for each instrument within that set. The patch contains an external instrument strip that sends to the IAC bus corresponding to the instrument I want, and an audio strip that corresponds to the output of that instrument. Any sort of general processing I know I want to use as a "template" for that instrument I go ahead and implement in that audio strip.
I make a new patch set called "Show Patches" and set up my running order. For each patch, I go and copy the external instruments and audio strips from Base Patches that correspond to the instruments I want to use in this particular patch, adjust the layering of the external instruments as I need to, and do any tweaking to the audio strips to suit this particular patch (relative volumes, controller stuff, extra FX)
This seems to solve many of the problems I've encountered - I have at least a template for each instrument that I can easily copy, I'm only instancing each instrument in memory once, and I can layer instruments with themselves (for example, play strings in octaves or something like that). Here are the issues I have with this system:
I'm limited to 32 different instruments because there are only 32 Mainstage buses. Now, granted, I probably won't need more than that or be able to fit more than that into RAM anyway, but still, it's a constraint.
If I use the same instrument more than once in a patch (like in the octave strings example I cited above), I only have one output bus for all the layers in that patch for that instrument, since, for example, the Strings base patch has been assigned always to use bus 1. So, I can't necessarily get the level of granularity I want in adjusting things, like if I want one string layer in the patch to be loud and another one to be soft. I guess I could create a "Strings 2" base instrument to accommodate cases like that, but that seems like a waste of memory and Mainstage buses.
The weird audio drop-outs when creating new patches still seem to happen and I have to restart Mainstage if I want to hear the results of what I'm programming.
I have like 20 stupid tiny keyboards hanging out in my Mainstage layout. Not a big issue, but still aggravating.
There's a lot to keep track of, and it seems unnecessarily complicated and maybe a little fragile. Like I'm asking the software to do something it's not basically designed to do.
I guess I'm just looking for some feedback on this from people who know a lot more than me. (Assuming any of them have had the patience to read all this!) I'm sure all of these problems have shown up on this very forum many times, but I just haven't found a solution that seems to address all of them any better than this one. If this is the way I have to do things, that's OK, and I think I can live with it, but I just want to make sure that, if I'm gonna go around my rear end to get to my elbow, it's a worthwhile trip. Any constructive thoughts are appreciated. Thanks!

    HI,
I am afraid to say I really think you are "reinventing the wheel" :-)
Mainstage is so powerful, but takes a bit of knowledge on how to do the most common things the "mainstage way", not the traditional way we used to do on hardware synths and samplers.
I am also on the musical theater world and have designed many setups for big productions here in Spain.
To start with a simple answer to your multiple questions, you don't have to drag many keyboards on your mainstage screen to have multiple midi inputs; you just need to add a Midi Monitori tem (the small yellow ball), and it serves the sames as a keyboard, even allowing for multple sound layers and even keyboard splits.
Secon, the busses option you are using is definetly limited and akward. From my point of view and experience I still have had no need for aliases or that kind of configuration, which takes a lot of tweaking for every little change. I would suggest to help you build a Mainstage file based on your needs, what you really want to do! You can write to my email if you want, [email protected]
btw, you should describe which plug-ins and libraries are you using, as well as your mac specs.
    greetings,
    Valgreen

  • Sound disappeared from Sample Editor?

Can anyone help? The sound has completely disappeared from my Sample Editor window and also the Audio bin.
I can't audition any loops in the list now, but if I drag them to a track in the main Arrange page they play fine. Then double clicking on that Audio loop or any audio clip in Arrange to bring it up in the Sample Editor window shows the waveform okay, but playing it just goes through the motions with the cursor moving as normal but no sound. Dead. Nada.
Is it me? I am not a novice with Logic but I can't work this out. I tried throwing away the preference files in Library/Prefs but nothing doing.
Any help would be appreciated as I can't edit in Logic now like this.
    Cheers
    Musolen

    Well thanks again Chorleyman,
I have had a play around and added another Audio strip in the Environment, set it to Output No.256 (The highest) and the Sound in the Sample Editor came straight back on. It's still called Audio and not PreListen, I can't seem to rename that, but it works now so I have my solution.
Thanks again for the advice and to everyone else reading this and mulling it over.
    Cheers,
    Musolen.

  • Move photo in album, view returns to select location

    iPhoto '09  v8.1.1 424 (earlier versions, too)
    Organizing/moving photos in an album:
When dragging a photo(s) in an album, say to move it from row 20 to row 1, where drag requires an auto scroll by holding the thumbnail at the top edge of album window, iPhoto returns view to row 20 when photo is dropped at row 1.  Same for any drag, up or down, if pick location is off screen from drop location.
I would like to have the view stay at drop location.  No pref for this.  Any way to fix?
Or click to select, then mouse scroll, and some hot key click to insert photo at new location (view stays at insert location).
Also, iPhoto has a very narrow target strip for the auto scroll.  Any way to widen the scroll control area? Or tips to work it?
    Any comment appreciated.
    -B

That seems to be the default behavior of that version of iPhoto when dragging in an album.  Not much you can do about it at this time.
There is a new version of iPhoto 8, iPhoto 8.1.2, that you could update to and see if that helps.

  • X240 Clickpad problems

Hi, I think I might have a defective clickpad and wanted some opinions to see if people agree.  Just got the computer about 4 days ago.  The clickpad never registers a click if I use the area of the clickpad that's actually marked for that purpose.  I have to click about 1/4 of the way down the pad to get any response.  I also can't find the middle button at all.  I have sat trying to get it with about 50 button presses over 2 or 3 minutes, and simply can't get the scroll feature to work (middle button is "enabled" in the control panel).  I experience about a 50% success rate in getting a right click.
When I purchased the computer, the upper right section of the clickpad was stuck against the side of the laptop palmrest... eventually I pressed on it fairly firmly and it heard a pretty loud noise as it moved into its natural place.
Really frustrated with the changes to the trackpoint (and it's associated buttons) in the "new" lenovos.  I might not even care about these issues if press-to-select hadn't also been eliminated.  Sucks for a decade long trackpoint user...

P.S.  I have the most current ultranav drivers installed, have also tried the .34 drivers and an older 17.x driver; to no avail.

    Hi cal3713,
Clicking on the red lines and raised dots should work.
Clicking the narrow angled strip at the front will always get you a left click. Right click detection relies on you touching the right of the large flat part of the clickpad. What are you touching the clickpad with when you click? Skin or nail?
    I don't work for Lenovo. I'm a crazy volunteer!

  • Issue with rendering ProRes back to Premiere

I'm rebuilding my workflow since upgrading to CS 6, and am running into a problem with the files generated by Speedgrade. Running on MBP with most up-to-date software (Adobe + Apple), ProRes codecs installed via Apple Compressor.
The workflow I'm trying to make work is: Shoot on Sony EX3, ingest media via Prelude and Transcode to ProRes 422 LT. Grade dailies in SG, export as individual clips to ProRes 422, import into PR for editing, export EDL, back to SG for final grading, back to PR for audio and final render.
It's all good until I render the dailies from SG. It generates the files and I import them into PR. The clips import fine, but when scrubbing through the image freezes up in PR, both in source monitor and program monitor. When I import the transcoded files (pre-SG) of the footage, they work just fine. So it's not the footage, and it's not the codecs since they were used for the transcoding as well. It must be something in how the output settings in SG and the codec interact.
I set the filename to src.filename.graded to get individual files, and I noticed that if I look at the files in Finder, the video duration is bogus. They all have the same duration and longer than the actual clip. Have to check, but may be the duration of the in/out points of the export, rather than the source clip.
If I render the entire grade as a single intermediate file it works fine (apparently at least). But now I've lost the clip structure, so that's not helpful.
I've tried all kinds of different variations of settings - render timeline track on/off, strip alpha channel on/off, include audio on/off, etc etc. But no combination seems to work.
    Any thoughts?
I'd rather not have to render each clip separately....
    EDIT #1:
Well it gets weirder. I did spend the time to render clips indpendently, and that seems to have improved somewhat, but it's still not entirely working.
One clip in particular is giving me grief still: In the transcoded file (which is playing fine) the clip is 4:02 (=98 frames) long. Also properly displays in the source monitor at 0:0:4:2 in PR. The same clip is 4:02 long in the SG timeline, and upon export it says that it exported 98 frames. Yet, the resulting file imports into PR as 4:11. And incidentally right at 4:02 is where the image freezes up. So the content is fine, except that the SG export added some 9 phantom frames to the file.
So I guess exporting clips individually and trimming their end to reflect actual length may keep me moving. But that ain't right. Will report back if I find out more about this export issue.

Manuel - Yes, they do. In at least one of my tries I disabled audio in the output preset, but I haven't tried it with clips that had audio stripped from them. I'll go ahead and try that.
This does get into an issue of the workflow I haven't totally resolved yet, so I could avoid keeping audio with the clips. If I apply the initial grade and then only export proxies for editing, when the EDL is re-imported, how does one keep the adjustments form the initial grade with each clip before adding the final grading? In lieu of having an answer for that I was exporting the dailies at full quality so I could reconnect them with the EDL and then render the final output. Maybe this should be a separate discussion...
