  • Problems coding a button within a movie clip to navigate scenes

    Hello there! I've got another probably noobish question to ask about CS6.
    My goal is very similar to the one mentioned in this previously discussed forum question: http://forums.adobe.com/message/837995#837995 and also in this question http://forums.adobe.com/message/4172919#4172919
    I am attempting to make a button inside a movie clip in my first scene go when clicked to the first frame of my second scene. I named the button's instance menu_button_1 and I believe Scene 1 and Scene 2 are the names of the scenes. (If they should have special names or instance names, I did not see where to type them.) Because of the similarities, I attempted to follow the suggestions on those pages. However I probably did some small thing wrong, (Or heck, maybe a huge thing.) which I what I'd like help with to find.
    stop();
    myButton.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, clickHandler);
    function clickHandler(evt:MouseEvent):void {
    gotoAndStop(1, "Scene 1");
    This seemed to be what was suggested to enter. I attempted to modify it to work for me as well. This is what I typed for the button's action.
    menu_button_1.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, clickHandler);
    function clickHandler(evt:MouseEvent):void {
    gotoAndPlay(1, "Scene 2");
    (I removed the stop function because I have music looping in the movie clip that I want to play until the mouse is clicked.) (Also, I picked gotoandplay because I wanted scene 2 to start playing immediately when clicked rather than stopping.)
    I tried variations, including "2" instead of "scene 2" and whatnot. I also tried linking it to differnet places just to see if that would work. It seems like it could link if I only asked for a frame within the movie clip itself, but it couldn't go to any other frames in scene 1 or scene 2. When I attempt, this message is displayed in the output:
    ArgumentError: Error #2108: Scene 2 was not found.
        at flash.display::MovieClip/gotoAndPlay()
        at interactivestgermant_fla::menu_1/clickHandler()
    It seems it cannot find my Scene 2. (It also cannot seem to find Scene 1 when I prompt it to do that.) I'm afraid I'm not sure of what I've entered incorrectly, though I'd imagine it involves how I typed the scene navigation. Should it have an instance name or something? I'd very muchappreciate a push in the right direction. If you need any more info I'll be happy to provide it. Thanks for the help! I very much appreciate it.

    I bet you're absolutely right. However I am not sure how I am misnaming it, as to my ametuer eyes, it seems to be entered properly into the properties box? It does show up as "menu" written in white over the keyframes and also in the properties slot. I can include some images here to help out in correcting me.
    http://girlfoxgirl.deviantart.com/art/Flash-Help-1-395704638   This image shows my movie clip. This seems to be the problem it's having, identifying "menu." Did I do that incorrectly? It looks to be in order.
    http://girlfoxgirl.deviantart.com/art/Flash-Help-2-395704633 This is inside of the movie clip named menu. You can see I did the same to name the button menu_button_1.
    http://girlfoxgirl.deviantart.com/art/Flash-Help-3-395704627   This shows the action I gave to menu_button_1 in which I attempt to have it naviagte to Scene 1 frame 493.
    http://girlfoxgirl.deviantart.com/art/Flash-Help-4-395704623  This shows where I'd like the button to go to. (It is hard to tell if that's frame 493 or 492. I figured that it should be ok either way and if this frame is 492 then it's easily changed once I get the darn thing working in general) (Also, I named the layer "peanuts." I tired entering the name "peanuts" as well but it didn't seem to work either, so I figured "493" is easier since I know that you can go to a specific frame by doing gotoandplay("scene 1" , #) and I'm not sure if it requires any additional stuff to go to a name.
    http://girlfoxgirl.deviantart.com/art/Flash-Help-5-395704687    These are the errors I get. I totally agree with you- It seems very much to be an issue of getting it to recognize the "menu." However I am unsure where I named something wrong. Is this enough info to help you perhaps point out where that is?

  • Using a combobox to navigate to scenes with as3

    I'm a novice.  I'm trying to use a combobox to navigate to different scene in my .fla.  I was able to use a conditional (if) statement which seems to work but it only allows me to use the "if" and "else if" statement once before giving an error.  i examined information on using a "switch" but haven't had any luck understanding the coding or getting it to work.  The following is the code I've wrote.  Can anyone provide me some guidance?  Thanks in advance.
    cb1.addEventListener(Event.CHANGE, home_dl);
    function home_dl(e:Event)
        if (cb1.selectedItem.label == "A - B")
            gotoAndPlay(65, "a-b");
        else if (cb1.selectedItem.label == "C - D")
            gotoAndPlay(65, "c-d");

    At a quick glance it looks like you are missing an opening curly brace following your second if()
    else if (cb1.selectedItem.label == "C - D") {
    Also, while it is probably just a copy/paste error, you are short one closing brace for the function
    function home_dl(e:Event)
        if (cb1.selectedItem.label == "A - B")
            gotoAndPlay(65, "a-b");
        else if (cb1.selectedItem.label == "C - D") {
            gotoAndPlay(65, "c-d");

  • How do I navigate from a movie clip back to a scene?

    I am just starting with Flash. I am creating my own website
    within a single scene built up of movie clips. Within Scene1,
    frame1, I have a movie clip that is the animated introduction to my
    site. i have attempted to add a gotoAndStop command to the last
    frame within the movie clip in order for the scene to proceed to
    frame2.
    gotoAndStop("Scene1",2);
    Can anyone explain why this does not work?

    Give a frame some label name and use
    gotoAndStop("labelNameHere");
    Do not use scene names. Just labels...

  • FCP7: How do I save 5 small separate Scenes, saved by project, to only one final project?

    Specs: FCP7 Software
    MCH70 Panasonic Camera
    Using a college, Media Lab, Desktop Mac.
    I captured files but had some trouble at first.
    Then I saved each Scene (in my short 5 minute total project) as separate projects.
    I have edited them and they all have separate sequences in each saved project.
    Now I want to put them altogether and make one Master Project (so I can see if I exceeded my 5 minute project restriction).
    I tried importing them but no luck. Then I copied all the sequences into one New Project, or maybe they just moved, not sure.
    Don't know if that was the right thing to do or what the next step is. I am worried about damaging my already edited files.
    I heard ultimately in other forums that I might be able to copy the individual clips into one folder and then import them into a new project?

    You have each "scene" edited as a separate project?
    This is not a useful way to work.
    To combine all the sequences into one ("Master" or "Show") project:
    Create a new project with matching project settings to all your previous work. Give this project a unique name and save it.
    Now go to the menu  File > Open and navigate to and open your "scene" project(s). Repeat until all are open.
    You will see they appear as tabs in the FCP Browser:
    Once all the projects are open, you can go to the timeline of (for example) the first scene, click anywhere in the timeline and then select all (Command + A), and then copy the contents of that timeline (Command + C). Switch to the timeline of your new project and paste it there (Command + V). Once done, make sure the playhead on that new timeline is at the end of the pasted content, then do the same with the next scene. Repeat as necessary, until you have all the content in one timeline. and then check your total duration.
    Save everything.

  • Co-author cannot access track change and add/delete scenes

    My co-author cannot access track change or add/delete scenes. Is it a bug or is there a setting that I did not set correctly.  I shared the document as co-author several times with the same results. Any help would be appreciated Thank you Brice

    Hi there,
    Unfortunately, currently only owner of the document has the right to turn on/off track changes or accept/reject changes. Co-author can still view the document as Original or Final from Review menu or even navigate through the changes using Next Change/Previous Change. Extending the track changes rights to co-author as well is being considered on our backlog of items to do.
    Meanwhile, the co-author should still be able to go ahead and edit existing text, add new text, delete existing text and it should be getting tracked.
    Do keep providing us your feedback on the track changes feature. Your feedback is extremely important to us and helps us to improve.
    Thanks

  • How can I set 'menu' to return to 2nd menu scene selections?

    I have a two page menu. 1. Title page. 2. Scene Selections page. Once we are on the 2nd page, I want the viewer to be able to return to this page when returning from viewing a selection. There is a button on Page 2 to get them back to the main menu if they like.
    Is there a way I can set the 1st menu page so that the viewer will return to it by pushing menu.
    And likewise, set the 2nd menu page so that the viewer will return to IT by pushing menu.
    So each page has a different 'menu' return setting?
    All ears, Ben

    You might be able to do this without scripting anything, Ben - the scripts are reasonably simple, but I know you won't want to get into those just yet!
    One option is to use stories, and there are different ways to achieve what you want to do. For the sake of example, let's assume you have got ten scenes and at the end of each you want to get back to menu 2...
    Create ten stories and add a single chapter into each from your ten available. Set the buttons on menu 2 to point to the corresponding story and then for the story, set the menu call so that you go to Menu 2 and land on the appropriate button. You should set the end jump for each story to also point back to menu 2.
    Now, from Menu1 content, point to the track itself and set the menu call for the track to go back to menu 1.
    When the viewer accesses the footage from Menu 1 and then uses the Menu button they will go back to menu 1. If they navigate to Menu 2 and access a single scene, that scene will play and go back to Menu 2 when done. If they press menu during the scene, they will also get back to menu 2.
    Job done.
    Now, if you want to do this in a better way, you only need to create a single story and drop ALL of your chapter markers into it. This will become the main feature where everything plays. Set the end jump and menu calls to go to Menu1. On Menu 1, set the buttons to target the content insode the story container.
    To get a single scene to play you add end jumps to the chapter markers in the track (click on the marker, look in the property inspector or in the 'Connections' tab). Set the end jumps to Menu2 and the Menu command to Menu 2 as well. From menu 2 you point your buttons to the specific marker.
    This also gets the job done, and neither method needed a script

  • After dragging a map and navigating away all other scenes are off centre..

    My Flash document contains several scenes, one of them is a draggable map including hotspots/buttons to navigate to another scene.
    After dragging the map then navigating from one of the buttons the next frame is remains off centre (as if when the map was dragged the whole Flash movie has been dragged away from the centre stage).
    The map is a graphic, inside that it is a button and then inside that the navigational button.
    In the timeline in an actions layer I have:
    stop();
    mapisland.onPress = function(){
        this.startDrag(false,296,317,-55,10);
    mapisland.onRelease = function(){
        stopDrag
    mapisland.onReleaseOutside = function(){
         stopDrag
    And applied to the hotspot button:
    on (release) {
        this._parent.gotoAndPlay("Arrow");
    The navigation and drag work fine, however as I stated before when navigated to the "Arrow" scene the all that can be seen of it is just a corner.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank You
    Ric

    If your Jetpack is powered on then you are going to be liable for any data usage that occurs.  It doesn't matter if the usage was intentional or not.  The best practice while investigating a data usage/overage situation is to power down your Jetpack when you are done using it.  That is the only way you can be sure that your sleeping devices are not actually communicating and pulling updates.  Situations like this are often why I do not suggest Jetpacks as a primary internet connection from home.  Jetpacks are designed to be temporary and mobile internet connections best suited for a traveling business man or someone frequently on the move.
    It sounds like you have done everything that VZW can normally do in an overage situation.  You had your first overage wiped, had the device swapped out and changed passwords (although that shouldn't matter from your description).  The only loose end you haven't tended to is leaving the Jetpack powered on when not in use.  That or switching to a different Jetpack model or 4G LTE device (ex. USB modem+router or 4G LTE router) to see if they behave any better.
    My suggestion would be to terminate considering the amount of time and money you have already invested in this situation.  Give another service provider a chance and see if the performance is any better.  If you spend more time troubleshooting it should be on how to handle the termination fee (which is pro-rated). VZW will still be here if you decide to return down the road, perhaps things will be better.

  • Scene Navigation In Adobe Story AV or Multicolumn

    Hi there, how do I navigate between scenes in an AV or multicolumn style script in Story? I'm doing a script for a doco and it's imperative I can do this?

  • Scene Selection Menu Issue

    On the menu theme 'Sliding Panes', once the DVD is burned, the chapters aren't sequencing properly on the scene selection page on my DVD player (or any player). For example, when 'Chapter 1' is highlighted on my scene selection menu, a click to the right, which should be 'Chapter 2', does nothing. Random directions navigate the buttons, and the biggest problem is that NO direction gets me to the forward arrow, so there's no way to get to scenes 7-12. Thanks for your help.

    Often this is a problem with "overlapping" buttons. Do you have long text names for the buttons or are they crowded at all? Did you move them or are they in the default spots? Leave lots of space around the buttons, don't crowd them near each other.

  • Why does the button only work in test scene, not test movie?

    Hi everyone, I have a very frustrating problem with my flash project.
    I have two scenes in my flash movie, each of them has lots of links and navigation within itself. And there is one button that takes you from one scene to another.
    When I test Scene 2, everything works fine. However, when I test the whole movie, the navigation within Scene 2 won't work and there is no error!
    Does anyone has any thought about what is going wrong?
    I'm using Flash CS6.
    Thank you!

    Thank you for replying me!
    My Scene 1 has some key frames and some gotoAndStop functions navigate between the frames. My Scene 2 has basically the same set up, but different content.
    Then I use a button to jump from Scene 1 to Scene 2.
    Here is the code:
    var StoreHomepressing:Boolean = false;
    function StoreHomeonPressing(evt:Event){
              if (StoreHomepressing==true){
                        gotoAndStop(1,"Scene 2");
    function StoreHomehandlePress(evt:MouseEvent){
              StoreHomepressing = true;
    function StoreHomehandleRelease(evt:MouseEvent){
              StoreHomepressing = false;
    StoreHomeBtn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN, StoreHomehandlePress);
    StoreHomeBtn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_UP, StoreHomehandleRelease);
    addEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME, StoreHomeonPressing);
    "StoreHomeBtn" is the instant name of a the button. Through this code, I want it to go to and stop at frame 1 of Scene 2 on pressing this button. It does jump to frame 1 of Scene 2, but once it goes to Scene 2, all the gotoAndStop functions in Scene 2 don't work and no errors show up.

  • Code Snippet - Swipe Gesture to frame or Scene

    Using the Timeline Navigation code snippets is real easy to use and understand, I am using the codes to " Click to next scene or frame etc etc and they work fine.
    What I dont see in the code snippets is a easy to use  " Swipe Gestures"  Swipe to frame/ Swipe to Scene/ Swipe to next scene.
    Im not a Coder. Everything I have learned is from watchng Lynda.com, Total training and alot of trial and error. When it come to reading long
    lines of code my mind goes fritzy.  And because of this I have learned to respect you guys who know coding.
    I noticed that the you can add your on personal snippets into your library.
    I will gladly pay someone to write me a simple  Right to left swipe gesture Snippet that lets me navigate to a frame or Scene.
    I hope this is something that adobe is planning to add to the Code Snippets Options soon.
    Can someone please give me some input on how to make this happen.

    What this is ... is a demo for an phone app.
    They are doing the demo on a PlayBook.
    There are 20 screens and the design looks like a BlackBerry Torch.
    The bottom navigation takes the user back to screen One.
    I have a button on Frame 1 of the timeline that runs across all 20 screens.
    The Code Snippet for that button is:
    HomeLeft.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, fl_ClickToGoToAndStopAtFrame_9);
    function fl_ClickToGoToAndStopAtFrame_9(event:MouseEvent):void
    gotoAndStop(1);
    So .. if the user is on say ... screen 10 and clicks the "HomeLeft" button .. it takes them to screen #1.
    That works.
    All the navigation works up to screen 19.
    Then ... when you navigate to screen 20 ... nothing.
    The buttons react ... but the script is not activated.
    I have looked EVERYWHERE for rogue code.
    I even deleted the frames for screen 20 and then built it again.
    Still ... it does not work.
    If I could show you a screen shot of the timeline ... I think it would make more sense.

  • Scene Builder & Date Picker

    Hi All
    Very quick question. I've just start to get involved in the java world, and have started to look at JavaFX 2 and the Scene Builder. Scene Builder looks very good, but I can't see a Date Picker control at all. I can see lots of examples for using a date picker, but none with with Scene Builder or FXML.
    Is this not possible at the moment?
    Thanks
    Andy Baptie

    In case anyone else comes up against this issue, I've got a bit further with it although it's not perfect.
    I've use jFXtras
    This was all done on a Mac.
    Open up the Scene Builder Package, navigate to Contents\Java and copy jfxtras-labs-0.1.jar in the folder.
    Right Click your .fxml file in Netbeans, and select edit.
    Create an entry for you DatePicker
    eg
    <CalendarTextField prefWidth="200.0" GridPane.columnIndex="1" GridPane.rowIndex="0" />
    add the required import
    <?import jfxtras.labs.scene.control.CalendarTextField?>
    After saving, you can open the fxml in Scene Builder and carry on as usual
    Cheers

  • Export question: menus/scene markers to disc?

    Premier Elements 13
    Windows 7 Professional
    Export to Disc (DVD) works fine.
    Export to Computer (MPEG): works fine.
    What I'd like to do is export the DVD-style format (ideally with movie menus, but more importantly with click-to-next-scene-marker navigation) - to disc.
    When I save to MPEG, there is no way to navigate to the scene markers.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks.

    I do not know of a program that will add menus to a Timeline that you export to file saved to the computer hard drive.
    I have done some online google searching to see what is out there. But, so far I have found
    a. programs that will allow you to add navigation tools to a web site
    or
    b. program that will allow you to add menus to a large text file
    On the webDVD side, http://www.premiumbeat.com/blog/web-dvd-premiere-pro-encore/
    Back in a November 2014, Adobe PRE_help posted in a thread here on the removal of webDVD from 13,
    Web DVD or similar in Elements 13
    You can try Publish/Share -> Disc -> DVD -> Burn to Folder option and say you save this folder on your desktop. Open the *.ifo file inside VIDEO_TS folder in VLC,Media player and you should be able to see the files and the menus.
