Navigating back from a track to its parent menu, not the root menu

I'm building a showreel DVD. One menu as intro. That plays out and we click to enter the next menu. The viewer chooses to play a video from this menu. Track 1 commences successfully.
Now, though, if I want to get back to the previous menu I can't. Pressing 'Menu' or 'Title' brings me back to the intro menu, which the viewer has already seen and doesn't want to see again so soon.
Is there a way to do this?

Its intended function is as an intro, with no options for the viewer except to watch. It's a Motion sequence, which I've placed in DVDSP as a Menu Background in Menu 1. When it ends it jumps to a still frame (taken from the last second of its Motion sequence), which is the background to Menu 2, over which appears a PLAY button. This PLAY button is similar to the ENTER button you see on many websites.
This PLAY button targets Menu 3, which is the first proper menu, in terms of a viewer's range of options. Here the viewer chooses from a selection of 4 videos.
The reason the structure is complicated is because I couldn't find a way of making the play button come up at the end of the Motion intro, so I had to cut it into two stages.
One question: does the Return button on a DVD remote always trigger Menu 1?
I'm looking in the manual to see if I can learn about First Play asset and how to configure that.
