NDSLookupForDB

Hi,
I have a lot of redundant entries in the Sybase DB on my Zen 6.5 Sp1
server and am trying to remove them by running the NDSLookupForDB service.
However, I am getting the following error message in the
zenworksinvservice-xxxxxxxx.log file

Any idea how to resolve this error?
Thanks in advance!

Problem solved.
Read post from Dae 28/04/2005 Subject: Re: DB NDS Lookup error.
A few months ago I modified the Import policies to import all WS's into
a new OU. I subsequently deleted the old OU's that contained the
obsolete WS objects.
To resolve the problem, I re-created the OU's (As suggested in above
mentioned post) and ran 'startser NDSLookupForDB' which generated a list
of WS objects that had been removed from the deleted OU's a few months
ago. I then removed the re-created OU's after running 'StartSer
RemoveInventory'.
Cheers

  • Zfd32sp3 and startser ndslookupfordb

    Hi,
I have scheduled console commands that run startser ndslookupfordb and startser dbdelete running to synchronise NDS with our Zenworks DB's.
Since implementing sp3 though whenever I run these commands it deletes all the workstations in the databases.
Am I doing something wrong or is there another way to synchronize (other than installing Zen4)?
    Any help greatly appreciated

  • NDSLookupForDB fails on deleted OU.

Just a little background to this long-running problem: We're running
ZENworks for Desktops 4.0.1 Inventory across several dozen servers
throughout our organization, all setup to roll-up to regional Intermediate
servers and from there to a single Root database. Most of these servers
were originally 3.2, were upgraded to 4.0.1 and now run with either ir5,
ir6, or ir7. After the upgrade, we had many straggler 3.2 workstations in
the inventory that just wouldn't remove themselves over time. I'm now
trying to come up with a good way to clean-up our inventory state-wide.
I've tried using the NDSLookupforDB service, but on the ir5 servers it
always fails when encountering an OU which doesn't exist. For example:
searching for workstations in the Win9x.Workstations.Davis... OU (Which was
deleted long ago) the following returns in the log file.
ZENInv - DB NDS Lookup: search DirContext:[Root]
ZENInv - DB NDS Lookup: NDAPAuthUtilities: search: Base DN =
    WIN9X.WORKSTATIONS.DAVIS...[Etc...], filter = (Object Class=Workstation)
ZENInv - DB NDS Lookup: NamingException
    javax.naming.NamingException. Root exception is
    com.novell.service.jncp.NDSException: ccode = -601 (0xfffffda7)
    at
    com.novell.service.jncp.NSIExceptionBuilder.build( NSIExceptionBuilder.java:82)
    at
    com.novell.service.jncpv2.net.BasicNetService.sear ch(BasicNetService.java:1260)
    Etc...
It seems to retry this process about 5 times before giving up and at that
point simply fails and stops the NDSLookupForDB service. The
DeleteWSList.txt of course comes back as a 0 KB file. This never shows up
as a problem on the ir7 servers, but we only have a few of them in the tree
right now, and I'd rather not ask all of the admins to run around upgrading
them all if this will work fine on ir5.
Sorry for the long-winded post, I value any and all input on this matter as
I have tried all I know to try myself.

  • Build up of str files in ScanDir

We have a build up of sevral thousand of these files in ScanDir files.
Looking at several places on groups i have found that two services need to

When i try to manuall start the service with a 'startser selector service'

  • Sync Inventory Database

I'm running ZFD32 SP3 on a 51SP7 server. To sync the inventory database
with the nds one I ran startser ndslookupfordb which ran fine and created
a lok file. When I ran the dbdelete command and looked at the log, I found
that there were about 10 entries that resembled the following...
1020: workstation <WS object name> not deleted because it is corrupted in
    the database...wsid=0.
Any ideas on how to remove these corrupted workstation objects from the
    database would be greatly appreciated.

  • Removing workstations from database

I have auto removal of unused worksataions setup on several servers.
    I
noticed that some of the workstation objects that were manually
    deleted
from NDS still show up in an inventory scan. Shouldn't the scheduled
removal get rid of those from the database even if they've already
    been
    manually removed from NDS?
    Thanks,
    Jeff

Jared, in my message I wrote that I was using the STARTSER
    NSLOOKUPFORDB
command and getting an error message. I was typing it in at the
    server
console just as I had written it in my message. The actual command is
STARTSER NDSLOOKUPFORDB. I was missing the first "D" in
    ndslookupfordb...human error.

  • Inventory doesn't remove workstation

    Hi,
I have zenworks 4.0.1 with Sybase, but now I have a lot of workstations
that now they aren't in the NDS, and I want to remove them. I know that
we can't remove these workstations manually, but I try to follow the
steps that I've seen in the knowledge database, but I can't. I think that
I'm doing something wrong. Could anybody guide me?
    Thanks

Ok, you are right, but I have the same problem. I open
    \\Nwzen\DATOS\ZENworks\Inv\server\WmInv\properties \InventoryRemoval.propet
    ies and I write FilePath=DATOS:ZENworks/Inv/server/WmInv/properties/
then I write on the Server Console startser NDSLookupForDB and then it
    writes:
    startser NDSLookupForDB
    InvEnv.NCF
    Loading module JAVA.NLM [Not Multiple]
    InvEnvSet
After that, it switchs to ZENworks Workstaion Import windows, and I check
that there is a file in
    \\Nwzen\DATOS\ZENworks\Inv\server\WmInv\properties called
DeleteWSList.txt which is empty (0 Kb)
    What am I making wrong?

  • NW5.1 sp6 Killed Inventory (jvm1.3.1)

My ZEN3 Inventory worked fine for months, all the way through NW5.1
    sp5.
I installed sp6 and allowed it to upgrade JVM1.17d to the 1.31. I now
    get
the dreaded "...exited with status 1".
It appears to indicate an environmental variable "tmppath" is not set.
I could only find, in the NW51_ISS.TXT readme, a suggestion to
    re-install
ZFD3sp1a. I did, no help. (However, I did not allow it to downgrade
    files.)
Is this something anybody else has seen? What can I do, and fast?
    Thanks!

Thanks for the quick reply. I'll try that after I get a good backup up
    of
database - all 400MB - and let you know. BTW, I forgot I had a CRON
    job
running "StartSre NDSLOOKUPFORDB, DBDELETE, and DBBACKUP" every night
    at
0130, so came in to work this AM to see the ABEND indicator at <3>.
