Need advice regarding an interview

Hi,
Since everytime I had a confusion, it was resolved by this forum only, so now again I need ur support and advice.
Actually, I'm a struggler seeking desperately for job of a junior/asst. DBA. I've done MCA(Master in Computer Application) and OCA (Oracle Certified Associate) DBA.
Now in the next month I've to take the last exam (Performance Tuning) to be an OCP. Since I m a fresher in this field, I m not getting any job opportunity.
I'd already discussed my problem on this forum and had got lots of precious advices which recharged and motivated me a lot.
Now today I got an interview call from HCL company for the post of an 'asst.programmer' which is not the field I was looking for. But since I m getting an opportunity from a big company I m not able to resist it. Plz advice me of what should I do in such situation.
Further,I m not in practice of the programming languages for a long time so I m not sure whether I'll get through the Interview or not. Plz suggest.The interview is tommorow.

If you've got some knowledge of programming then at least it's a foot in the door and will allow you to gain experience.
Likewise, going for the interview will give you experience of the interviews, even if you don't get the job.
A good programmer has a good understanding of the way a database works, so the DBA skills you've already learnt will help you and, if you get the job, the programming will give you a good idea of how people need to use the database, so that too will support your DBA skills and you can eventually work up to the job opportunity you want.
We all had to start somewhere. ;)

    need advice regarding physical standby databases in rac environment on oracle 10G r2
    I like to have have a Primary ( 10 node RAC cluster ) shipping to a physical standby ( 3 node RAC cluster ) shipping using LGWR .
    So I have a lot of questions
    1) What will be the performance overhead on the Primay if we are using LGWR SYNC option .
    2) Does the overhead depends on the physical distance between primary & physical
    3)Do you recommend a seperate private network for shipping logs between primary and standby.
    4) I know that DGMGRL supports RAC only from 10g. So are there any know issues are bugs using DGMGRL is RAC environments.
    Thanks in advance

    Generally you should have same CPU architecture and same operating system but it's not mandatory to have the exactly the same CPU model, the same number of CPU, the same RAM size etc.
    Actually starting with 11.1 you don't need to have the same hardware setup: it 's even possible to have primary and standby database on different platforms: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B28359_01/server.111/b28294/standby.htm#i72053.

  • I need a new Macbook but -.I need advice regarding the new fixed configurations

    I have a MacBook from 2007 and it probably needs replacing as I'm starting to see problems, little hints that any day it might completely stop working.  I was ready to buy a new computer but after reading about the new MacBook Pros, it seems like Apple has forgotten its roots.
    Let's say you get 8 GB of RAM which is probably enough for my purposes( but I'm still not sure, I might get 16 though its very expensive) and there is a problem with the RAM.  Do you really have to replace the entire logic board and what are we talking in terms of parts and labor assuming you are out of warranty?  This happened to my current Macbook and it was very cheap because I was able to snap new chips in but everything is soldered  on the new Macbooks and I don't want to buy a computer that I might be throwing away in 2 years.
    The same questrion applies in regard to the CPU.  If it fails, is this going to be a huge repair bill?
    Another major concern regards complaints from dissapointed customers who are unhappy with the glare of the screen.  As I have eye problems, this could be a big issue for me.
    Finally, but less of a problem, Its disappointing that you need to purchase an ethernet adaptor and have to buy an external CD/DVD drive. People look at me like I'm crazy when I talk about CD drives, but I listen to a lot of classical music which you cannot get on the net, and, even if you can, it is of low quality.  You have to go to a store like Amoeba to find the CD.   Not a huge deal, but a bit annoying and these little things add up.
    I'm starting to think I may have to take a look at PC's,  something, I never thought I'd do again.

    I'd recommend 8 GB RAM, based upon all the information available today it should be sufficient for a very long time. OS X "Mavericks" uses system resources extremely efficiently and the MBP's flash memory goes a long way toward masking a paucity of RAM. Apple claimed that Mavericks' new memory compression algorithm results in an effective increase of 50% more memory than what is actually installed, a claim that I have empirically determined to be accurate, perhaps a bit conservative. In other words 8 GB memory will perform as if 12 GB were actually installed, if not for OS X's memory compression algorithm. Even 4 GB is sufficient for Mavericks whereas it was barely adequate for Mountain Lion.
    If you were to ask an iPad or iPhone owner how much memory it has, and if they actually understood what you were asking, most would not know, or care. Nor should they. Such is the future of the Mac product line.
    The same questrion applies in regard to the CPU.  If it fails, is this going to be a huge repair bill?
    It certainly will. Fortunately I have never heard of a single case in which a Mac's CPU has failed.
    Another major concern regards complaints from dissapointed customers who are unhappy with the glare of the screen.
    All you can do is try it for yourself. Matte screens have disadvantages too. If you don't like your MBP, return it for a full refund, no questions asked. You have 14 days to decide.
    Classical music used to been a challenge to find on iTunes, but Apple has been getting better. You can still buy an external CD drive to import your music; they're not terribly expensive.
    Any computer design is a study in compromises and an optical drive simply isn't worth the tradeoffs. People howled about Apple's decision to eliminate floppy disk drives too, even as they were ridiculed for originally promoting the 3 1/2" floppy disk format. What Apple creates, Apple destroys, lest someone else do it for them.
    In any event optical discs are antiquated and obsolete, so get used to the idea.
    I'm starting to think I may have to take a look at PC's,  something, I never thought I'd do again.
    Choice is good. Knock yourself out.

  • Question - Need Advice Regarding Second Hard Drive On HP Pavilion dv7t-4100 Notebook PC

    Hi,
    I currently have a HP Pavilion dv7t-4100 Notebook PC, and my hard drive failed (luckily while still under warranty!).  So I contacted HP support and they are in the process of sending me a replacement hard drive, so that I may install it.  When I opened the back of the notebook, I realized that a second hard drive could be installed, if desired.  I would be interested in doing this!  My current primary drive was (and will be again) a Toshiba 1 TB Internal hard drive Serial ATA-300 2.5" 5400 rpm, model MK1059GSM.  I understand (from reading a previous post) that for the second hard drive, I will need to purchase  a "2nd HDD Caddy & Cable for HP dv7-4000, dv7-5000, dv7t SE" (the purchase link the tech in the other post referred to was http://www.newmodeus.com/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=345); and now I need to decide on the size (and other stats) of the hard drive that I will buy to install and used as the secondary drive.  The HP customer service rep I spoke with on the phone about my primary drive replacement said that it is usually recommended to not go any higher (in capacity) than the primary drive, for the second drive, to ensure a more "stable" system (but I am not sure about the level of"technical" knowledge he has about the inner workings of the notebooks).  However, from my upgrading experiences with desktop PCs, I was usually able to go as high in capacity as I could/desired; as long as the physical size of the drive was the same, and it was compatible with my system.  And I usually did choose to go with a larger capacity second drive, as this was where most of my data and media files were stored (with the primary being used for mostly operating system and system files).  This is my first time "upgrading" a Notebook, so I wanted to check with the techs here on the board- would it be a problem for me to go with a secondary drive larger than my primary drive's 1TB capacity?  Also, are there any other factors to consider and keep in mind when selecting a second hard drive?  Any advice and replies will be greatly appreciated.  Thanks so much for your help with this!  -Brian

    You should be able to go as high as 2TB.
    I also own a,(Older), DV7 notebook which has dual drive capability.
    I bought my caddy from the place recommended and got everything needed including screws !
    I matched the capacity in mine with an exact same hard drive and have never had a problem.
    Minor battery life noticable but that was it.
    Your system BIOS is what will hold you back from say a 3TB drive.
    You can go to HP site and check the specs on your model and find out for 100 % sure.

    I would recommend doing what I did and match the drive exactly.
    Good day !

  • Need advice regarding playbook

    Lots of advice to be honest. And to top it off I really am completely ignorant about my playbook. It was a present to me for 2011 Christmas. I am not much of an electronics person and don't even have a cellphone although I had some in the past.But I liked the playbook.  I didn't use it much, but I liked it . I guess I didn't read all instructions carefully or it wasn't plainly explained, but I thought that it would be like any other device I had before, where if I had no more charge I just had to charge it again and it would go back to working without a problem. Truth be said, by luck or some other reason I didn't have any problems with it although the charge probably went to 0 several times. However in the summer I took it to my daughter's house when visiting and forgot it there. I only got it back last weekend when she came to visit me here.
    I don't think it was ever turned of and to make things worse, the cat had chewed trough the charger. It is unusable.My daughter told me that it was ok she has charged hers often with the micro usb on the computer, so I tried it. Nothing happened. I did get a red light when I pressed the on button, but that was it. I thought that maybe the power from the computer wasn't strong enough to charge it, the thing is,  not only I had no idea where to get another blackberry charger fast, but also at this moment I really can't afford a penny out of my budget so I called my daughter and she told me to try connecting the micro usb to the converter ( or whatever it is ) from my son't iphone to plug it in the wall.Nothing much changed. I've been trying for the past hour, plugging it in, off, in, off... the only difference is that the last times when I plug it in the red light comes up by itself- it didn't before - it's on for some seconds, turns off and then a yellow light blinks a few times and then nothing.I assume that it's not chargin anymore so I unplug it and then try again after a bit but there has to be a proper way to do this. I prefer to think there is, than to believe that the playbook will never work again.
    I don't even know what playbook I have. I assume it's one of the first ones, and it does say 32 Gb. I am not sure if it was updated at all ever since I had it. I seem to think there was an update, but I am not sure. It was never connected trough a cell phone, since I don't have one. But I did get internet over the wifi before.My daughter said something about something manager in the computer and that I don't think I have. Heck I don't even remember my blackberry id even though I know I had one ( have ). I'm just an old lady that doesn't even remember half her passwords  LOL
    In any case is there any way to kind of jump start this thing? I read in another post something about a magnetic rapid charger, but I really can't buy one right now. ANy help on what I can do to get it charing? Please and thanks

    Yes, leave the iPhone charger connected to the PlayBook while pressing the power button (or the power + Up + Down keys).
    And, no, the USB computer connection isn't enough to charge the PlayBook anytime. You might get a trickle charge, but rarely enough to keep it charge.
    Good luck. You might need to leave this connected for a couple days and every 4-5 hours, try one of those power on attempts.

  • Need advice regarding the use of Private Owned

    Hello,
    We have the following JPA entity objects:
    @Entity
    public class Claim {
    @PrivateOwned
    @OneToMany(mappedBy = "claim", cascade = CascadeType.ALL)
    private List<ClaimLine> claimLineList;
    @Entity
    public class Bill {
    @OneToMany(mappedBy = "bill", cascade = CascadeType.ALL)
    private List<ClaimLine> claimLineList;
    @Entity
    public class ClaimLine {
    @ManyToOne
    @JoinColumn(name = "CLAI_ID", nullable = false)
    private Claim claim;
    @ManyToOne(cascade = CascadeType.ALL)
    @JoinColumn(name = "BILL_ID")
    private Bill bill;
    Both Claim and Bill have many-to-one references to ClaimLine. The ClaimLine is Privately Owned by the Claim.
    Note that when a Claim is removed, the entire object graph is discarded, i.e. the Bill and ClaimLine objects are also removed. The Bill can be removed without removing the ClaimLine objects.
    The EclipseLink documentation [ http://wiki.eclipse.org/Using_EclipseLink_JPA_Extensions_%28ELUG%29#How_to_Use_the_.40PrivateOwned_Annotation ] specifies that:
    "+An object should not be the target in more than one relationship if it is the target in a privately owned relationship.+"
    Question: are we running a risk having the ClaimLine object as target in more than one relationship?
    Thanks.
    Best regards,
    -Sjoerd

    Hello,
    When you remove a Claim entity, you will need to clean up all references other entities might have back to the claim item. Because Claim has a privately owned relationship to ClaimLine, all references to the ClaimLines that are to be deleted also need to be cleaned up, or Bill will be inadvertently left referencing a deleted ClaimLine in the cache. If Bill is removed, references to it must be nulled out - specifically in the ClaimLine, but you have to do this in the application or get a constraint violation on the database anyway.
    The risk with privately owned objects is that they are deleted outside the normal constraint checking rules. That is, if ClaimLine is not marked for deletion but its owning Claim is, ClaimLine will not get deleted until the delete for Claim is processed. That means depending on delete ordering, if Bill is marked for delete, it could get processed first, and so deleted deleted before the Claim + ClaimLine, causing a dependency violation. As long as you are setting the ClaimLine->Bill relation to null you won't get a problem. If you are not, and bills are getting deleted first, you can order the dependencies manually so that Claim is always processed for deletes first using addConstraintDependencies on the Claim descriptor described at: http://wiki.eclipse.org/Using_Advanced_Unit_of_Work_API_%28ELUG%29#How_to_Use_the_addConstraintDependencies_Method_of_the_Descriptor

  • HELP:  Newbie needs advice regarding Photo Editing Software

    I'm brand new to Apple therefor I'm brand new to its' software... I am looking for a thorough Photo Editing Suite that isn't going to cost me $600. Is Adobe Photoshop my only choice? Aperature seems a bit to "high-end" for what I want to do. Any assistance is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

    You do not specify your image editing needs. Pro shooting DSLR RAW? Occasional point-and-shoot digicam JPEG photos? Other?
    Point-and-shoot folks may suffice with iPhoto.
    If you are a professional DSLR Photographer you do need Aperture for RAW image management and organization; and you also need a separate image editing application because Aperture's image editing is quite limited.
    If you are a professional DSLR Photographer needing to edit images Adobe Photoshop Elements ("PSE") is IMO the application that you are looking for. It is reasonably priced and provides most of the utility that a photographer (as opposed to a graphic designer) needs from an image editing program.
    There are many other image editing apps, even some free ones, but unless you are totally broke they are IMO a bad idea. You are much, much better off with a well established professionally supported application like PSE. And you will be working in a workflow similar to the full $700 Photoshop app, which is the right direction to be going in.
    As you become familiar with PSE you will be able to immensely benefit from the discussions on the Adobe PS, Photography and PSE Forums such as at <http://www.adobeforums.com/cgi-bin/webx?14@@.ee6b362> and <http://www.adobeforums.com/cgi-bin/webx?14@@.3bb41392>.
    Every so often Adobe offers PSE owners special deals on upgrading to full PS, so be sure to register PS Elements with Adobe. Hardware vendors sometimes offer PSE as a bundle with their hardware, so if you need a scanner you might get a free copy (e.g. with the excellent new Epson V700 scanner).

  • Getting started, need advice regarding PIN and gmail

    I recently upgraded by phone to the Blackberry Z10, after months of nagging by Rogers (you would not believe how easy and inexpensive they made doing this - I paid a tiny fraction of what my colleagues paid, and my monthly bill is about the same as it was before).  This is actually my first 'smart phone'.  Previously I had used phones ONLY for talking.  OK, when you stop laughing, you can call me a luddite, and we can carry on.
    I had my nephew set up my phone (he is the family Blackberry guru), and we set up BBM using my personal gmail account (at least as I understood, or possibly misunderstood, him).
    Now, first, every so often, this thing stops getting email, and I get an error that imap.gmail.com, port 993 is inaccessible, and it becomes accessible only if I go to the account settings and resave them.  The latest this happened was this weekend.  I hadn't noticed this at the time I sent an invite to BBM to a colleague, and he responded before I got my connection to gmail reestablished.  Now, I see his response, with what looks like encoded data at the end of his reply, but his contact info has not appeared in my contacts list or when I open BBM contacts.  Does that usually take a while to happen, or do I have to reinvite, and have him respond, again?  In other words, does such a delay normally exist, if the current situation broken, or do I have to fix something (and if so, how)?  Lastly, is it possible to free space on the phone by deleting emails from the phone without concomitantly deleting them from the gmail server?
    Well, I lied.  That wasn't the last question.  I just remembered, he asked me for my BBM PIN.  Is that my email address, that was entered to get that set up, or something else?  If the latter, how do I find out what it is?
    Thanks
    Ted

    I'm not 100% sure if this still works but give it a try. See if you can setup your GMail using ActiveSync. Go to Settings >Accounts and remove your GMail account. Then follow the instructions below.
    http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/KB33472
    If for some reason it doesn't work just go back and add your GMail account the normal way again. ActiveSync works better than IMAP but Google has said they are going to stop supporting it unless you pay for a Google Apps account. Mine is setup this way and works quite nicely and I don't pay anything.
    As for your PIN you can find it by typing "mypin" (without the quotes) and hitting the space key in a BBM message or email. You can also find it in Settings >About >Hardware.

  • Need 256 Bit AES Full Disk Encryption for a Mac.  The other discussions regarding this issue are very old.  Does anyone have any current advice regarding encryption software?

    Does anyone have any advice regarding 256 bit full disk encryption software for Macs?  The other discussions on the topic are years old, so I would like some current input.  Thanks for your help in advance.

    Depending on your Mac, you might not want to upgrade to OS X 10.7 or 10.8 as it will not run the PowerPC based software your currently using costing a bundle to replace it all, also they will slow down your machine if it's not a more recent issue. You don't want to upgrade OS X without AppleCare defending your possibly bricked logicboard that's for sure.
    Filevault encrypts the boot drive, however in doing so makes it near impossible to fix if you have a software issue and need to recover files directly or by using specialty software. Also it robs the machine of performance even more than the Lions do. So you will really need a SSD to work best with 10.7/10.8 and Filevault, then it has to be freshly installed. Filevault needs 50% free space on the boot drive, then it's going to write to the slower 50% half of the hard drive where performance is terrible compared to the first 50%.
    Also Filevault is cracked under certain conditions, and if someone gets their hands on the machine (like the law) and knows what they are doing.
    If you take your Filevaulted machine to Apple to fix, they are going to require the password to fix the machine obviously.
    Software based encryption is vulnerable, you might want to instead place your sensitive data on external self-encrypting hardware that doesn't rely upon software or computer hacks/bypasses (ike freezing the RAM) to get to it.
    http://www.datalocker.com/products/datalocker-dl3.html
    Iron Keys for portable USB self encryption, both work with any computer, so your not locked into one platform.
    With the senstive data off the computer and on a external device, there is the option of removing, hiding and securing the device. If used with a computer that's never connected to the Internet, it's safe from snoopers, except from a survelliance van parked outside your door.

    Hi all,
    I would appriciate any advice please. I will start from the beginning i placed my order with BT on 26 july calls and broadband they said they had to send an enginner out and the earliest date was 16th August which has been i waited in betwwen 12 and 5 and no enginner arrived i then rang bt i was so angry. I need advice on the socket i have one in my flat but what i dont have is a wire that goes accross the wall i am not sure if that lead is in the socket i have not touched the socket since i moved in 2 years ago i do not want to touch it as me and leads do not get on lol!! would the enginner put the cable in if there isnt one???
    Thanks in advance

    'I need advice on the socket i have one in my flat but what i dont have is a wire that goes accross the wall i am not sure if that lead is in the socket i have not touched the socket since i moved in 2 years ago i do not want to touch it as me and leads do not get on lol!! would the enginner put the cable in if there isnt one???'
    Have you ever had a working land line in the flat, is the flat a new(ish) build? It is possible the lead in, that is the wire that connects the socket to the outside Block Terminal or Distripution Point is behind the wall.
    Most new builds will have Openreach or the developer put the wiring in before they put the wall in to hide it so there isn't un-sightly wires everywhere. My house is a new build, a mid town house and the master socket is at the back of the house in the living room but the connection point outside is on the front of the house, there is no visible wire so I assume it goes up the wall, across the hall ceiling into the living room then down the wall again to where it is. I know it won't go under the floor because I visted the house a few times during the build process and the floor was put in before the phone socket was.
    I suppose its nice you can't see the wire but I am unsure what they will do if it ever needs replacing as I don't know if its feeds through duct type pipeing where they can pull it through?
    Anyway to answer your question if it needs a cable then yes the engineer will put one on.

  • Need advice for an application that restricts access to other applications using a smart card

    Hello everybody,
    I am developing a system that uses a smart card reader attached to a USB port of a PC.
    What the system should provide is:
    When computer boots up and shows the users login screen, a user, previously registered, can use his smart card to access the system, instead of entering his password
    Once the user is logged in, when he tries to launch an application, which has previously marked as "secured", a dialog box is shown indicating that the user has to present his smart card. If the smart card has access to the application, the application
    is launched, otherwise an error message is shown to the user and the application is not executed.
    I develop in C++ and C#. I have already created a library (in Visual C++) that manages the smart card reader and provides the card presented to it.
    Now I am developing the applicastion (in C#) that will configure the security (assigning cards to users and applications).
    Concerning this, I have 2 questions regarding each point above:
    Is it possible to create the centralized application that lists all users and allows to assign cards to them? Then, when the users login screen is shown, the system must access that data before logging in, so that it can check which card was presented and
    what user it corresponds to. I have seen in laptops, that have embedded fingerprint readers, a user must login to his account first and then he can register his fingerprints. In fact, what I need to do is something similar but with smart card reader instead
    of fingerprint reader. So, perhaps, user must login into his account first and then he will be able to add his card and store that information somewhere (in windows registry maybe).
    How can I launch my application when other application is executed but before its interface is actually shown? this is similar to what antivirus programs do, because they check the executable before it is actually ran. What is the best method to address
    the application? by executable file name? process name? or other? if the best is by process name, how can I know the process name without actually running the application?
    Well, that is all what I need to do. Please advice regarding this subject.
    I look forward to hearing from you,
    Best regards,
    Jaime

    > what was the guidance?
    1. Research other software that does similar things (not just exactly the same) as you need. If you like something in their solutions, copy it :)
    The only software I know that does that is an antivirus, but I am unlucky to find some code in c++ that allows to intercept the program execution before actually executing it.
    2. If a kernel driver would fit in your solution, go for it (google for what is available for free, or find a consultant to write it for you).
    There are a lot of information about kernel drivers, but the question is, is that really the solution?
    Otherwise, you can just hide the application from user's reach and substitute the executable in shortcuts, etc. to run your program instead.
    Definetly this is not the way to go
    What is the best method to address the application? by executable file name? process name? or other?
    By executable file name, like in the Windows Applocker, I think. Processes do not have names (they are artifact of Task manager and debugging tools, to represent the processes for user somehow). Or, only by the filename part of the full path.
    I agree with that
    if the best is by process name, how can I know the process name without actually running the application?
    When the user runs the application, the driver will detect this and do its magic.
    I have found this page: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/3556048/how-to-detect-win32-process-creation-termination-in-c. They mention WMI, but I will study it tommorow... it is so late for today :-)

  • JMS to Synchronous Web Service Scenario (Need Advice to use BPM or Not)

    Hi Experts,
    We have a scenario where we fetch data from JMS Sender and Send it to MDM Webservices.
    We want to have the files processed in such a way that until we get a response from webservice back that it was sucessful ,then only we need to process the next file.
    We would need advice as can we use BPM for this.
    We are thinking of having BPM like this:
    RecieveStep(Asyn)-SynchronousSend Step(with wait)-Stop
    The problem with this is when processing huge files the processing time of the Queue is taking very long and sometimes we are getting SYSFAIL.
    Please would anyone advice as how can we approach this scenario either using BPM or without.
    Also Can we use multiple queues or multpile instances concept for this scenario.
    Please Advice.
    Thanks in Advance
    Regards
    J

    Hi Prateek,
    Thank you very much for your quick reply.
    The response from Webservice does not need to be sent anywhere.
    We just want that after recieving the response back from webservice(SOAP) then only we need to process the next file.
    Can we control something from Sender JMS adapter side as well as it is picking up all the files and all files wait at BPE until each one gets processed.
    Is this possible without BPM or with BPM.
    Please advice as what wud be possible steps inorder to achive it through BPM or Without BPM.
    Thanks and Regards,
    J

  • Need Skype for an Interview

    Hello,
    I need Skype for an interview next week.
    I have downloaded Skype and purchased a Skype number. I sent the number to the interviewer who told me that I needed a Skype ID. I haven't been able to locate a Skype ID for my account. Will the interviewer be able to contact me using my Skype number or do I need a Skype ID?
    If I need a Skype ID, where would I locate my Skype ID?
    Any help would be much I appreciated. I'm confused.

    Hi, Mongeau, and welcome to the Community,
    The interviewer may call you on your Skype Number, which is the fixed line telephone number subscription you started, or you and they may exchange contact details on Skype and conduct the interview over Skype.
    Your Skype ID would be the account name you chose when you created your Skype account.
    Here are a few "getting started" tips which I believe you will find helpful:

    Good luck!

    What kind of accounts do you need to reset? IMAP or POP accounts using one of the many web-based messaging systems? An Exchange server account? Were they working and now just not working any longer?
    You're going to have to be a little more specific in what you need...
