  • MBOX K9VGM-V after Flashing the BIOS successfully Live Update crashes system

I recently purchased a barbones computer with the K9VGM-V motherboard.  After installing all the drivers on the disk, updating Windows 2000 competely through Windows Update I decided to try Live Update.  The first thing I updated was my BIOS from Ver. 1.6 to 1.7.  The flash was completely successful.  However when I went back to Live Update(the latest version btw) the minute I executed the program my system completely crashed!  It was like I had hit the reset switch.  I decided to format my HD and reinstall everything.  The BIOS works fine and the system is entirely stable, but even after starting with a clean slate I tried the Online version of Live Update and the same thing happened.  My computer crashed and restarted itself.  This happened after the BIOS flash so it must be related to that.  I am just not sure how or why.  Any suggestions or input?

So you have crash only when trying to using LiveUpdate or? If yes just ignore it and do not use LiveUpdate

  • K9N SLI - newer BIOS than in Live Update

I have a few weird problems with my new AMD64 6000+ adn MSI K9N-SLI
It seems CoreCEnter goes haywire over the processor. It doesn'r matter what settings I have in BIOS, if Cool'nQuiet is on or off.
The Core Center rapidly shifts showing that the CPU is between 200mhz to 8000mhz. This must of course be wrong, no other software shows this.
I then contacte the suppoert and they pointed me to a FTP with some new BIOS on it.
I have version 3.60 on my board. BUt on the FTP I found 3.75. This opne however is not present in Live Update.
As I really prefer to do it over Live Update, so that I know I won't mess things up, I'm wondering if anyone knows why
the new BIOSes is not present there.
Otherwise... Is there a simple way for me to update the BIOS and make a recover disc in the process, just in case.
    Thx for any help.
    // Chris, Sweden

That's what I thought too... The comp has been a bit unstable though. Nothing much. But It has crashed a few games and freezed up once or twice. So I was thinking that maybe there is som stability problems with this BIOS.
Still though... the support told me to upgrade to it. Is you advice that I should at least wait until it is properly released?
Also... While I have you on the line. Is there a good page with a guide for all the CMOS-settings? I have the PDF-manual but I need more extensive info. Such as what the settings acctually do, what the optimal and safst settings are and so on.
I'm thinking there might be a few settings that might get the system more stable. I have Spectrums disabled and increased the PCI latency timer to 128. Is there anything I should do with ACPI functions... I'm a newbie, so I don't wanna blow up my stuff.
    Thx for the help-

  • 915P-Neo2 Platinum - Live Update Crashes

Is anyone else having trouble loading MSI's "Live Update", especially "Live Monitor" on the 915P Neo2 Platinum?  Every time I load it the entire system collapes in the Blue Screen of Death upon reboot.
I've tried loading Live Update from both the enclosed "Drivers & Utilities" diskette and from the MSI Website where the latest version of Live Update (I guess) is located.
Both crash my new system the same.  It just keeps looping at the Boot-Blue Screen-CRASH!-Boot-Blue Screen - CRASH!
The only way to recover is to do a Restore in Safe Mode.
Very disapponted with the 915P Neo2 Platinum board in general, i.e., the above reason and the slow, ragged - even sloppy - boot.
And if there is any advantage in these high-priced PCI-Express videocards that justifies the money, I can't find it.  My old 875P Neo (signature system) smokes this new 915P even with its ungodly high-priced DDR2-675 memory.
    Stay clear of 'em.

  • How to update VGA bios in MSI live update.

    Hi,
I downloaded MSI live update and i saw that there is a new bios for my card and i downloaded it.
when i go to the folder with the DL-FILE i see that different things are downloaded included nvflash and the rom itself.
Now is my question, can i install the new bios though the MSIsetup in that folder or do i have to do it a different way? I just want to be sure because i don't want to do anything wrong and probably brick my card.
    Thnx in advance.

I just flashed the new vbios via MSI live update yesterday, but I have GTX 970, not sure if the procedure is the same or not between different cards.
I just pressed the "download and install" arrow on the right side of vbios size, and live update only allowing me to choose vbios update at one time. After the download finished, it auto executed cmd under windows, and remind me to remove graphics card driver and continue (I did uninstall when I flashing my first card, but for the next one I just closed the nvidia experience), after press twice "Y" in the cmd, the flash began and then system just auto restarted. When my pc rebooted to windows again, I checked the vbios version, it appears the new one.
maybe i should film a video if i got chance

  • Need to Create a Live Update Smart Playlist That Shuts Off After a While

    Hi All--
I'm trying to create a smart playlist with the following properties:
    1) Every time I play it, it selects a different random set of songs.
    2) The playlist plays for a fixed duration, then shuts off.  (I like to go to sleep to music, but it wakes me up in the middle of the night if it plays for too long.)
The best I've been able to come up with is to set "not played in the last xx days", "Limit to yy minutes selected by random", and "live updating".  However, there's a problem with this:  as soon as one song has played, it's purged from the list, which causes live updating to replace it with a new song.  As a result, this creates a list that plays forever, since new songs are continuously added to replace the ones that have been played.
I tried turning off live updating, but then I'm stuck with the same songs over and over.  I also know about the trick of just using "select random" and deleting the contents of the list, so that live update will repopulate it, but that won't work on an iPod without doing it in iTunes and then re-syncing.
    Any ideas?

OK, I think I finally found a way to do this, sorta.  This will work on any iPod or iPhone that supports live update and allows the creation of ad-hoc playlists, either named or on-the-go:
    1) Create the list as described above.
    2) Sync to iPod or iPhone
3a) On a non-touch iPod, highlight the playlist and hold down the select button until you get the menu with "add to on-the-go" in it, and select that.
3b) On an iPod touch or iPhone, create a new playlist, then select the dynamic list and "add all songs" to it.
The playlist you created isn't dynamic, so you'll just play through it once and stop.  Deleting the contents from the temporary list and doing step 3a/b over will get you a new set of songs.  The dynamic list will purge the songs and update with new ones as you play them from the static list.
It's not perfect, but it's reasonably fast to get a time-bounded selection of music that refreshes each time you want to play the list.

Are you sure your hang isn't due to a bad harddisk?
    Or overheating CPU?
I'm reasonably confident that it is not a bad hard disk.  All of the hard disks I have have been running in a stable manner at different times off the mainboard SATA connections.  The thing that has changed is the SIL 3114 SATA Card.
The overheating CPU I can't be so sure about.  However, the CPU has run just fine under much more taxing conditions in the past.  I think my problem is likely to be that the SATA Card is useless.
I just can't seem to find any clues to help diagnose the problem...

place your old BIOS version on the USB key not renamed and place the USB key in rear USB ports
then see if BIOS can be recovered

  • Updated bios via Live Update and now my Network card isn't detected

I have an msi Z87-GD65 Gaming Motherboard and I updated some drivers and the bios via msi Live Update 6 last night and now my computer refuses to recognize my network adapter. The adapter is a TRENDnet N600, plugs into PCIe if I'm not mistaken. Wifi if my only option with this computer, I can't use ethernet, so it's really important I get the network card working again. I have had zero issues with it until this.
The reason I was updating was to try to get my third monitor to work when plugged into the mobo, while my other two were plugged into the graphics card (which I also installed yesterday, but it's working fine). Note that it still was not working, but I had enabled the IGD Multi-Monitor from bios.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. I did try uninstalling the drivers but it still won't detect the network card. I also tried disconnecting and reconnecting the network card (and I cleaned the port for good measure).
I've only been using Windows computers for a year, so bear with me if there's stuff I don't know. Thanks in advance. I can try to get a full list of what was installed later tonight, but all of it that I can find has been uninstalled at this point.
Note: I did not flash the bios when I installed, which I have now heard is a bad idea, apparently. l:

  • MSI KT8 Neo2 F board, upgraded cpu and used MSIs Live Update, now unstable BSODs

I've had this mobo for almost 2 yrs now with an AMD 3500+ cpu and recently upgraded that to the FX-55. To do that, it required using MSIs Live Update and needed newer chipset drivers. It has the latest bios according to Live Update.
It took a few attempts but finally booted w/o BSODs and has been running for over 1 week BUT is still not right. It's sometimes unstable and will crash (BSOD) just by starting up a browser. I had the bios settings at "optimized" and have tryed a few other changes but so far, I'm not gaining. Last night I couldn't keep it running more than a few minutes w/o it crashing.
I have the MSI manual for my board and plan to spend some more time playing with it tonight but might anyone here have any ideas? It's not running hot (reads 50C) and was stable before with the 3500+. I've tryed "Fail Safe" bios settings too but nothing's better that way either.
I'm hoping that someone here has a few ideas?
    Perhaps related?
After initially running this with the new cpu, I'd see the "searching for MAC address" message and it'd hang there on boot. Someone told me that was because it was trying to do a network boot, selected in the boot sequence SO I've unselected that and that's when things got worse (oddly as it shouldn't IMO). One can select the 3+ boot devices (floppy, USB, CD-DVD rom, HDD) and it use to see the HDDs (2) before but now I'm not (only floppy and CD-DVD rom) and if I unselect the ethernet option (boot other devices), it fails to boot at all and says "insert floppy" as if I was installing Win98 way back when (running XP Pro btw). Something's definately not right with my bios selections.

Let's go back to basics here for a bit. Start by posting your complete specs in your signature like we do. Make sure that your PSU values are also in there.
Let's also look at some tests to help determine where the issue is. I would recommend Memtest86+, OCCT, Prime95, and 3DMarks as a great first series. Also get CPUz and lets see what it shows for CPU and Memory.
If we can get an idea where things begin to fall apart then maybe we can determine if this is driver, hardware or some other issue without having to make the flash happen first. The reason why I am avoiding the flash at this point is that if things are mostly working maybe there is some other cause than Bios. We know that some FX's work with 3.x and some that don't. So I would like to try a bit of checking before we dive into a flash that could cause more issues than it solves if we get this wrong. As things are mostly working now we can assume at least for the moment that maybe the flash is not needed. If we don't see anything during testing that sheds some light then maybe we go ahead with the flash.
That is if your willing to take some time to try and sort this out and maybe learn some stuff in the process. It is of course your call and we will respect whichever decission you make here.

  • Why am I receiving via "Live Update" a notice...

    Hi David,
I am not sure what is going on. The chdir (null) message sounds like the updating process is trying to change to a new directory but is failing, possibly because the directory does not exist. I am not sure how to debug this, but off hand, I would suggest deleting a couple of preference files and to delete the SU cache file. These would be:
    /Library/Preferences/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.plist
    /Users/yourname/Library/Preferences/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.plist
    /Users/yourname/Library/Caches/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate
You should probably restart your computer to make sure that operating system forgets about the cache file.

  • MSI Live Update problem....

So i downloaded/installed the Live Update v3.61 and decided to try it out.  I changed the default option to  only show new versions of files.  It keeps telling me i've only got v4.08 of the Nvidia nForce3 System Drivers, when i've downloaded v5.03 from the website and installed them (twice now actually).  what's the deal?   anyone else have a similar issue?  I've tried getting it with live update, but it crawls along at 2-3KB/sec, so screw that.
Just noticed as well that the "Live Update" button changes fron green to yellow when i try to update...
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks in advance!

WOW, this amazes me. This was the first time I have ever built a computer, so i tried to find a board with the performance I wanted and features such as LiveUpdate to make it easy to maintanence.
Anyways, Everything other than the temp readings in corecell went very smoothly from day 1. I have flashed my system bios twice with Live update and that fixed my temps, the driver, the nvidia driver, and a utility, and never have I had a bad experience with speed or bad flashing. I have never flashed bios with a boot disc and will continue to use the LiveUpdate feature. Im sorry that you guys are having troubles with it, because I think its the best thing around. And Im seriously shocked to have read this. I thought it worked for everyone.
If other people have good experiences with it, let me know, I cant be the only one.
I seriously think LiveUpdate is one of the best features of the board.
