    I think you might need the java 'robot' class.
    However, a JSP page displayed on a browser is running in a secure enviornment that will probably not let you access the computer its running on. Instead, create a serlvet back on the server that runs the robot class. The servlet will send the data to the jsp page for display. The jsp page can send commands to the servlet which will execute it via its robot class.

  • Execute java commands through java code

    Hi guys,
    I want to run a java class from another class.
    I tried like this..
    Runtime.getRuntime("java C:\test2");But test2 did not run.
    But I could execute this command sucessfully.
    Runtime.getRuntime("javac C\test2.java");
    I could see class file generated for this.
    Please suggest me how to run a java class .....
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi guys,
    I want to run a java class from another class.
    I tried like this..
    Runtime.getRuntime("java C:\test2");But test2 did not
    run.Because the JVM (the java command) does not take a file as its argument. It takes a class name. You'd want something like java -cp C:\ test2
    But I could execute this command sucessfully.
    Runtime.getRuntime("javac C\test2.java");Because javac, unlike java, does take files (rather than a class name) as its argument.

  • Executing System Commands In Java

    Hi,
         I am not sure if this is a bug or I am just doing this wrong. I have
    written a program to move files into ~/.trash/ . My problem is that this
    works only for files without spaces but for files with spaces it will
    not work. Some of my code is below.
    I have temporarily uploaded the complete file at
    http://www.geocities.com/carmaski/Remove.java
    public static void main(String args[]) {
    String currDir = System.getProperty("user.dir") + "/";
    String trashDir = "\" \"/home/masca/.trash/";
    String commandString = "";
    for (int i = 0; i < args.length; i++ ) {
    File tmpFile = new File(currDir + args);
    if(tmpFile.exists()) {
    commandString = "mv \"" + currDir + args[i] + trashDir
    + args[i] + getTimeTag() + "\"";
    System.out.println("The command would be -- " +
    commandString);
    try {
    Process p = Runtime.getRuntime().exec(commandString);
    catch (IOException e) {
    e.printStackTrace();
    System.exit(-1);
    As an example I tried this with a file that has a space and I get
    the following output.
    The command would be -- mv "/home/masca/WORK/Text File"
    "/home/masca/.trash/Text File_2005.04.17_04hrs:25mins:36secs"
    However the file remains without being moved.
    I cannot understand why the mv command does not work in java. If I
    manually copy this to the command line I can get the file to work. It
    should be noted that this program works perfectly if the file does not
    have a space.
    Regards,
    Rio

    Use File.separator or simply / instead of Windows
    backslashes.
    - SaishI think OP is on a unix machine, and he still needs to escape the spaces. The escape character is, of course, a back-slash.
    Depending on the shell (my experience is with bash), to execute the command mv Test File.txt newTest File.txt, the file names either need to be double-quoted so that the command shell will treat them as a single token (I think that will work), or the spaces need to be escaped (I know that will work). In java, to include a single \ in a literal String, you need to escape the escape character, which is why I think two \\ are needed in the String, so that one will survive to be passed on to the exec command.

  • Executing OS command from sql procedure

    i want to execute an OS command from the procedure, can i do this way? looks like it is not executing the command move....
    declare
    begin
    dbms_output.put_line(' moving...');
    host;
    move c:\file1\test.txt C:\moved
    exit;
    /

    True. But that job is going to run in a separate session, some time after the current transaction commits (depending on the number of jobs queued up to run). So if you need to pass information back from the job, or you want the procedure to handle exceptions thrown by the job, or you want to tie job related failures back to a particular application level event, or you want the rest of your procedure to wait for the operating system command to finish, using the DBMS_SCHEDULER for this sort of thing is going to require a fair amount of additional coordination/ monitoring/ infrastructure code. It's certainly not a Herculean task to write that additional code, and it's reasonable in some situations, but the Java stored procedure approach strikes me as substantially easier to deal with in most cases.

  • Help with executing windows command in java

    hi, i am trying to execute dos command in java. currently i am trying simply to create a folder in the current directory.
    here is the code snippet:
    try {
    Process p = Runtime.getRuntime().exec("md myFolder");
    } catch (IOException io) {
    io.printStackTrace();
    i have also tried using "mkdir" instead of "md". but my code just throws an exception that says:
    java.io.IOException: CreateProcess: md myFolder error=2
    what have I done wrong? thanks in advance

    try {
    Process p = Runtime.getRuntime().exec("cmd /c
    mkdir myFolder");
    catch (IOException io) {
    io.printStackTrace();hey! that code worked out perfectly. so "cmd" is needed to run dos commands? i searched through the net, but most of the examples that i were able to find did not include "cmd".
    if it wouldn't be too much trouble, what is the option "/c" for?
    i would also like to add that "mkdir" also works. The problem was the missing "cmd /c". Thanks guys for your help! I really appreciate it.

  • How to execute Linux command from Java app.

    Hi all,
    Could anyone show me how to execute Linux command from Java app. For example, I have the need to execute the "ls" command from my Java app (which is running on the Linux machine), how should I write the codes?
    Thanks a lot,

    You can use "built-in" shell commands, you just need to invoke the shell and tell it to run the command. See the -c switch in the man page for your shell. But, "ls" isn't built-in anyays.
    If you use exec, you will want to set the directory with the dir argument to exec, or add it to the command or cmdarray. See the API for the variants of java.lang.Runtime.exec(). (If you're invoking it repeatedly, you can most likely modify a cmdarray more efficiently than having exec() decompose your command).
    You will also definitely want to save the returned Process and read the output from it (possibly stderr too and get an exit status). See API for java.lang.Process. Here's an example
    java.io.BufferedReader br =
    new java.io.BufferedReader(new java.io.InputStreamReader(
    Runtime.getRuntime().exec ("/sbin/ifconfig ppp0").
    getInputStream()));
    while ((s = br.readLine()) != null) {...

  • Execute SQLPLUS command using JDBC

    Hi,
    I was wondering if its possible to execute sqlplus command (eg set define off, change date format ..etc) using JDBC ?
    Can anyone please post me some sample codes about this ?
    Any help will be appreciated

    Hi,
    But the Runtime.exec() and the JDBC application have
    their own connection to the database, and the sqlplus
    commands that i need to run are session based (only
    valid during the connection). eg set define off
    How do I overcome this ?
    Huh?
    You put anything you want into a input file. You feed the input file to sqlplus. If there are results then you put them into an output file.
    None of that has anything to do with JDBC nor even with java. When you call Runtime.exec() you are running a completely different process. What you do with that process is up to you.

  • How servlet can execute a command?

    Hi
    I need help on following:
    1- How Servlet can execute a command?
    2- I that possible a servlet instantiates an applet or frame?
    Would apreciate any command(prefered sample code) on this.
    Thanks...Ali

    I'm not quite sure what you mean by an applet based application either... . but as I mentioned in the previous post, you could send such a page back to the client that contains an applet tag; which will subsequently display an applet on the client machiene.... and applets can comunicate to any and all servlets residing on the machiene from where they were downloaded with out any problem....
    Have a look into Http-tunneling....
    hope this helps
    Regards

    Hi,
    AVAppDidInitialise is a notification so you need to register that you would like you code called when the application sends out that notification.
    Here is a sample
    ACCB1 ASBool ACCB2 PluginInit(void)
    //Register for an event notification
    AVAppRegisterNotification(AVAppDidInitializeNSEL,
    gExtensionID,ASCallbackCreateNotification(AVAppDidInitialize,
    &myNotificationCallback), NULL);
    //Create a user-defined function that is invoked when Adobe Reader or Acrobat
    //has finished initializing
    ACCB1 void ACCB2 myNotificationCallback(void *clientData)
    AVAlertNote("Acrobat has finished initializing");
