Need help on JSP pages!!!!!
Hi,
I have a column named "status" in a table stored in a database.
this column hold an int value, either 0 or 1
0 means the staff is in an "inactive" status where 1 is just the contrast.
I have the following statements in theJSP page, the <c:out value="${staffer.status}"/> will return an int of either 0 or 1.
I want it to return a String "active" when <c:out value="${staffer.status}"/> returns 1 and to return the String "inactive" when <c:out value="${staffer.status}"/> returns 0
<tr>
<td width="41%" align="center"><b><font size="4">Status:</font></b></td>
<td width="59%"><c:out value="${staffer.status}"/></td>
</tr>how can i do this??
thanks a lot!!!!!!!!
My approach would be to make the JavaBean staffer is an instance of to return the string you want in the getter method:
public String getStatus() {
if (status==1) return "active";
else return "inactive";
}

In the same project i used it in another jsp and it seem to work.
(between <a> and </a> tag )
<ul class="categoryitems">
<li><a href="<%=currentDocUrl%> target="frameset">*<%=request.getAttribute("companydocuments")%>*Current</a></li>
<li><a href="<%=pendingDocUrl%> target="frameset">Pending</a></li>
</ul>
2) inside <a> tag
<ul class="categoryitems">
<li><a href="<%=currentDocUrl%> target="frameset" *<%=request.getAttribute("companydocuments")%">* > Current</a></li>
<li><a href="<%=pendingDocUrl%> target="frameset">Pending</a></li>
</ul>
</a><%=request.getAttribute("distributions")%>
retrieves the object stored in the request distributions and returns the object.
Assuming distributions is of type String, you could do a print statement to check what value you get.
<%String req=request.getAttribute("distributions");
out.println("distributions = " + req);

How to get context sensitive help in JSP Pages
Is it possible to display context sensitive help in JSP Pages when I press the tab key on the keyboard base on the key focus. I dont want to use any applet or Swing components, because its a web page viewed on the browser
ThanksJava code inside a JSP is interpreted on the server and the HTML produced by the server it is shown in the client browser. The JSP code can incorporate calls to the JavaHelp API if it is available to the server. Those calls can be used on the server side to map parts of the JSP to contents of a help set (HTML pages).
Given that, you can provide context sensitive help, but when it comes to view help information, you either can show HTML only (without TOC, index, etc.) or you'd need an applet.

Need help w/ JSP formating a page.
Ok. I need to make the following code work. I think it needs help w/ formating is all. Below is the JSP page I would like it in as well as where I think the code should go. Not shure how to get it to display the output though.
var fullSessionName;
Function startHODSession(sessionName) {
var i = document.HODApplet.startSession(sessionName);
if (i == 0) {
fullSessionName = sessionName + document.HODApplet.getSessionID();
I need to run that part of code and display the output on a webpage. Any help would be awosme as I am lost w/ JSP more of a vb kind of guy. but learning quickly. Thanks for any help or advice.
Thanks

<input type="text" name="AgentID" value="" />
<input type="submit" value="Push IT" name="id"/>
</body>
</html>Great catch on the aplet and maybe that is where I am going wrong. So let me back up a little and maybe you can get me out of my bind.
Basically what I want for a test app is: a little text box w/ a button. type in an number and click the button.
the button will then send the info to a terminal emulator. (ibm host on demand)
So that is what the 3 include statements where for. I got that from the API example.
so what I really need the page to do is print the list of connections.
so I need to get the latest session ID:
var fullSessionName;
Function startHODSession(sessionName) {
var i = document.HODApplet.startSession(sessionName);
if (i == 0) {
fullSessionName = sessionName + document.HODApplet.getSessionID();
Then run:
public int sendKeys1 (String text)
The string being what was put in the box.
for right now i do not need error checking and i know the screen will be on the right spot to accpet the input.
so if there is a better way to make it work using an applet....Im all for it.
any ideas would be great.

Need help with JSP - Session Bean scenario
I have massive problems with a simple JSP <--> Statefull Session Bean scenario with Server Platform Edition 8.2 (build b06-fcs)
What I do is generating a Collection in session bean returning it to JSP
and giving the List back to Session Bean.
A weird exception happens when giving the List back to Session Bean
(see Exception details below)
The same code runs without any trouble on Jboss Application Server 4.0.3
Any help would be great!
Please see code below

Noob Needs Help - Importing Html Pages into "My Site"
Greetings
I am sure this is a noob question that may have been asked, but I couldn't find it by searching so here goes.
I jumped right into Dream Weaver, following an online tutorial... and have a decent webpage but I must have skipped some steps or missed something and I would hate to backtrack and do it all over again...
When I began, I just started working on a HTML page... and now that its done, I want to make it a template etc...
But I never created a "site" as far as SITE > NEW SITE etc.
So now that I have, I need to tell DW that "These pages are included... these images are included, all that neat SPRY stuff I have done needs to be "in the site".
I am looking for a button that says, "Hey dummy, you need to select the pages that are included in your site" but can't find it...
Any help?
Thanks, in Advance

Hi friends,
[please forgive me if i am posting this in the wrong forum, all seems same to a fresher]
Now, to my problem..i need a suggestion, a way or a method to implement the following!
I am supposed to create a servlet that reads data from oracle database. Once i retrive the data (for example: 6 rows of a table having 4 attributes), i am supposed to pass this data to a JSP page where the data has to be formatted and displayed properly. If i call the same servlet from a different JSP, i should be able to access the data in that JSP and format it in a different way. How do i pass the data to JSP? what method i can use to achieve this task?
Note: I already know about PrintWriter pw = response.getWriter(); and then printing the formated HTML page..but i want to keep the formatting to JSP part and send only the data part that i can access in JSP

Need Help Fast! Page is dispalying twice in quiz
I have created a quiz using tips from another post in this
forum. I insterted a regular slide with a continue button before
the quiz questions. I insterted another regular slide at the end of
the questions with a re-take button that points to that first
slide. This part is working great. When I take the published quiz,
I click the continue button, and instead of continuing, the slide
redisplays. I click the button again, and it moves forward like
it's supposed to. Any advice?
I'm supposed to have these posted in our LMS today for
testing, so I need help fast!!! Thanks!!What you're seeing is likely the result of a MS patch for IE
in response
to the Eolas patent suit.
MS recently updated IE so any content shown in a page using
the Embed,
Object, or Script tags will need to be 'activated' before
they can be
clicked (or otherwise 'interacted with').
Your home computer probably hasn't had the latest security
rollup
installed, is why you're not seeing the issue on that
machine.
There is a work around, many site mention it. This may be a
good place
to start:

Need help adding a page to an existing website
Hey guys....I'm, as the subject states, a newbie to Dreamweaver. I am needing to add a page to an existing website. Simple enough...or so it seems...anyway, I went to the site, copied the source coding, went back to Dreamweaver, pasted into the code box, and up pops the page I copied. Great! So then I make my changes so that the page states what I want it to say, link it to what I need to hyperlink it to, then try to upload the page back onto the server....and here's where I get lost...I go to the web to check the site, and the page that I copied and made my own is not there. The link didn't work and the page is nowhere to be found. I don't mind whatsoever telling any of the what the site is (not sure if I can do that here), but any help would be very grateful!!! I'm not sure what I am doing wrong obviously. Many, many thanks in advance for any help you can give me!
JimAt the moment the link you refer to goes to the file ashby.php
http://www.superiorcareplus.com/ashby.php?s=1
Do you have a page named ashby.php in your site folder?
If you do copy that and make the changes you require. Save it as whisperer.php
Now you need to change the link from ashby.php to whisperer.php
<div class="leftMenu"><a class="menuLeft" href="ashby.php?s=1">Becoming an Alzheimer's Whisperer</a></div>
So it looks like this:
<div class="leftMenu"><a class="menuLeft" href="whisperer.php">Becoming an Alzheimer's Whisperer</a></div>
I'm not sure if it will work because the link has a variable (?s=1) after it but as the links all go to different pages the information probably isn't being fetched from a database. In other words all the pages appear to exist as individual pages. I don't know what 's' the variable refers to. -
Help : my JSP page work in 8i but not in 10g. Any idea ?
Hello,
We have a 10g environment with Portal and SSO.
When we were under 8i, I built a JSP file to display data from our DB via IE.
Now that we are under 10g, I noticed that the JSP file doesn't work anymore...
I located the JSP file in a similar directory as in 8i ... under ../Apache/Apache/htdocs/
1) Is there any missing setup in our portal for making this JSP page work ?
2) It seems that the HTML code is interpreted and correctly displayed, but none of the JSP code is interpreted .... even a "out.println" doesn't run ....
So, at least the JSP file is found .... but it doesn't completely work !
Do you have any idea ?
3) I don't understand the problem... and in other forums, some people suggested that I should not use JSP anymore....
I would like to understand why ?
I am something like stuck !!!
Shall I really use another technology ? (XML, .. )
Thanks a lot in advance for your helps.
OlivierHello,
It could be that there are just libraries missing from your project or some parts of the page aren't being loaded because they reside in another directory.
Are you trying to run the page in an embedded server? If so, you should add the runtime libraries for a JSP project.
You should use what you want to use, if you want to use JSP, it's perfectly fine.
Greetings,
JGeerts -
I am trying to figure out a bunch of code in jsp, it is a html form with some textfield and two button, one is "ok" and another is "cancel", I want to make different response when client click on the buttons, if they choose ok, I want to insert the value of those text field into an arrylist, and return back to previous jsp page, if they choose cancel, I just want to return back to previous jsp page, and with nothing changed in the arrylist, I was wondering how can I deal with the button name with both method "submit" and action"./some.jsp".
Please help! thx a lot!I would handle it by using a Back() function in javascript at the top of your html page. It is triggered only when the cancel button is onclicked.
<SCRIPT LANGUAGE="JavaScript">
<!-- Begin
function Back(myform)
window.location.href= "some.jsp";
</SCRIPT>
<FORM NAME=MYFORM ACTION=/SOME.JSP>
..here's all your input text fields
<INPUT type=text etc.. etc...
<INPUT type=submit value='OK'>
<INPUT type=submit ONCLICK = Back(this)value='CANCEL'>
</FORM>
I hope this helps. -
Need Help on JSP Radio Buttons please
How do i create radio buttons on a HTML file to link to other JSPs??
do i have statements in my HTML that gets a JSP i.e option and then that runs the links to the other pages?
please help very stuck and confused. ThanksHi ..kinda new to java and jsp , worked with abit ...
I have a problem have to solve. I have 2 jsp pages..one is for header displays a picture at top and has four radio buttons choices. Then at bottom of window is other jsp this jsp displays the result of whatever is choosen fromt he four buttons at top in the other frame from 1st jsp.
I kinda have part of answer from your post about onclick. But how do i pass a value from the 1st jsp to the 2nd. jsp. There is some code in the second page that displays certian pages depending on what the value is from the four radio buttons.
any help much appreciated :) -
Im using a JSP page, where i have built a table.
Say, the table contains seven columns. The value in the column 1 & 5 has hyperlinks, which will call an action class.
When i click the value in the first column, i can get the value that is beling clicked by giving the following script
obj.firstChild.nodeValueNow when i click the value in the first column, i need to pass both the values of col 1 & col 5. and vice versa
Hope you understand my problem.
Please suggest me a sol.This isn't a JSP question, it's a JavaScript question. JavaScript isn't Java.
You should probaby look up childNodes, previousSibling and nextSibling properties, similar to firstChild that you've used. You could start with firstChild and use a loop to access nextSibling till you reach the 5th column.
Or you could use childNodes and access the first and fifth columns directly. -
Need help stopping home page from appearing

I've designed and programed the site www.pawsandclawspets.com

Any thoughts?

The first image on your page is this:
<img id="logo" src="
http://test.inspiringmen.com/images/logo.png"
... />
onload=function(){
var imgs=[
"/images/logo.png",
"/images/another.png",
"/images/yetanother.jpg",
"/images/onemore.jpg"];
document.getElementById("logo").src=imgs[(+new
Date())%imgs.length];
This assumes that the "images" folder is at the root level of
your site.
You may add or remove image paths from the "imgs" array at
will.
