I have 2 iphones registered under same account, but both phones had different contacts in them, somehow icloud duplicated, exchanged them, and I turned off the icloud on one of them, while doing that it asked me if I want to keep them on my phone or not. I pressed the one saying not to keep them. I deleted all of them and could not restore the contacts, how do I restore it? when I sign in to my icloud account online it only shows the contacts that were on the other phone. plz help

I access a personal iPhone and iPad, and a business iPhone with the same Apple ID.
The iPhone's passcode lock feature is completely separate from another iPhone or iOS device.
All apps, all paid and free apps include DRM protection which is tied to the Apple ID that was used to download the apps. If some apps were downloaded with one Apple ID and then a new Apple ID is created, in order to download an app update that was installed with the original Apple ID requires using that Apple ID and password.

What are you trying to accomplish?
Iphones support bluetooth for stereo speakers/headsets, hadsfree telephone devices/headsets, some peer-to-peer apps from the app store, some keyboards and internet tethering where provided by the carrier.
Other than this it will not connect to another phone/device/computer.
File transfer is not supported at all.

  • ITunes library on one computer with multiple users

Mom, Dad, and kids each have their own log-in to this computer. Mom is the main administrator and when we downloaded all the CDs to iTunes, it went to Mom's iTunes Library. Dad has logged in under his name and purchased items from iTunes store which are now in his library. We now have 2 separate iTunes Libraries. How can we make the iTunes library the same for both Mom and Dad?
Dad just got iPhone and wants to be able to sync his apps to his computer login as well as having access to Mom's iTunes library - it would seem to me that the easiest way to do this is to copy the library from Mom to Dad or somehow be able to have Dad share the itunes library. Can't figure out how to do this. Any help would be appreciated.

To share an iTunes library among multiple users, put the iTunes library in /Users/Shared/Music/iTunes, and for each user, make an alias from ~/Music/iTunes to /Users/Shared/Music/iTunes. Set permissions on /Users/Shared/Music/iTunes (and everything inside it) to give each user read and write permissions, and you're all set. My wife have been sharing our iTunes library this way since 2005, without a hitch.
Also, you'll have to import the contents of one library into the other, to make one big library, which is an extra step, but there's no way to avoid this now that you have two libraries.
Here are step by step instructions:
    1. Figure out which library is larger, and start with that one. I'm going to guess it's Mom's. Log in as Mom.
    2. In the Finder, make a folder called /Users/Shared/Music.
    3. Move the folder ~/Music/iTunes (that's your iTunes library) to /Users/Shared/Music/iTunes.
    4. Select the folder /Users/Shared/Music/iTunes, and make an alias of that folder. (In the Finder, click on File->Make Alias.) The alias will be called "/Users/Shared/Music/iTunes alias".
    5. Move "/Users/Shared/Music/iTunes alias" to "~/Music/iTunes alias". Rename the alias to ~/Music/iTunes.
    6. At this point, check your work: start iTunes while still logged in as Mom. Mom should see her iTunes library, just as before, as if it had never been moved.
    7. While still logged in as Mom, go to /Users/Shared, select the Music folder, and give Mom and Dad read and write permissions on that folder and all its contents.
    8. Log out as Mom, and log in as Dad. In the Finder, move Dad's iTunes library from ~/Music/iTunes to the Desktop.
    9. As Dad, repeat steps 4 and 5.
    10. Now Dad should check his work, by starting iTunes. Dad should now see Mom's library instead of his own.
Congratulations! You now have a shared library. You not only share content, but all playlists, artwork, etc. As Dad, create a playlist, fill it with romantic music, and call the playlist "To My Beautiful Wife". Log out as Dad, and log in as Mom, and Mom will see the same playlist. Crack open a bottle of champagne.
But Dad's content is still in ~/Desktop/iTunes. You'll have to add it to your shared libary:
    11. Log in as Dad, and in iTunes, turn on the preference iTunes->Preferences->Advanced->Copy files to iTunes Music folder when adding to library.
    12. Still in iTunes, choose File->Add to Library and start adding all the files in ~/Desktop/iTunes. They'll be copied from Dad's desktop into the shared library. Try importing a couple of tracks, and log in as Mom and confirm that both Mom and Dad see the imported content. (I myself have never done this, so I can't give you much guidance about importing, since I started our iTunes library as a single shared library from the very beginning. For all you know, you can just select every folder in ~/Desktop/iTunes and import everything at once. I would imagine you might have to futz around re-organizing everything nicely once you've imported all Dad's stuff, but once that's done, it's done.) Once everything is imported you can trash ~/Desktop/iTunes.
That's it. Any content you add will be instantly available to both users without having to sync or copy anything ever, because both users are always looking at the same library. (If one user deletes something it's gone for both users too, so be careful!) The only trouble you could possibly have are permissions issues, depending on how your system and users are set up. On my computer, after setting it up once, we never had to think about it again. However, we set up a separate account to be the administrator, and neither my wife or I have admin privileges. Since Mom is an administrator and Dad is not, you might find that OS X treats you differently when you create new files in your library. You'll have to try it and see. Good luck!

  • 2 iPhone 4s on the same iTunes account, now we have mixed contacts

I've been using my iPhone 4S for quite some time and my wife and I also have iPads (1 and 2). We have always synced the music, books and apps between each device. We finally just got her an iPhone 4S several months ago. So, we just downloaded the latest 6.1.1 IOS upgrade and I must have answered a prompt/question wrong in the set up...because now all of her contacts migrated into my phone and all mine went into hers. We both have a zillion contacts now and don't want them on each other's phone. Also, if someone texts me or texts her, we BOTH get the text message on both phones.
I'm sure there's just a setting somewhere but I can't find it :-) Can someone help me out?
Also, if we manually delete her contacts from my phone that I don't want, will they delete from her iPhone, too? Thanks!!!

Thanks for the help. Took a bit of time and I'll need her phone (when she's back) to get it all straight...I think! :-)

  • Is there any way for additions made by one user of a shared library to be visible to the other user of the same library, without having to always "add file to library"?  This was the whole reason we consolidated the library into a public folder

My wife and I share a computer but have separate Windows ID's.  We also each have an iTunes account, using two separate Apple ID's.  We have always struggled with the headache of getting music that one of us added (via purchase, downloading CD, etc.) to the other person's music library.  A friend suggested we consolidate and share the same library.  Sounded like a good idea so we moved the libraries to a public folder, consolidated them, etc.  But now when one of us adds music to the library, the other person still has to do an "add file/folder to library" in order for them to be able to see it.  This is exactly the step we were hoping to eliminate by this consolidation.  Does anyone know if there is a way to make this happen automatically, or will we have to continue to do this every time?
Also, ended up with a lot of duplicates in the process of consolidating.  Is there any way to identify and "mass delete" these?  It will take a while to go through them all individually as the library is somewhat substantial (approx. 16k songs)
Hardware is Windows 8, one iPod classic, one iPod Nano (obviously only selected playlists on this one).  All hardware and iTunes running latest software.
    Any information would be appreciated!

It sounds like you are using two independent libraries with a common media folder, whereas the plan would have been to ensure that both profiles were using the same library library database. Although you can place this within the Public folder I would normally create a shared library at the root of a drive, e.g. at X:\iTunes where X: is the drive that you want to use. See Make a split library portable for information on moving the library around back into a standard shape.
As for duplicates, Apple's official advice on duplicates is here... HT2905: How to find and remove duplicate items in your iTunes library. It is a manual process and the article fails to explain some of the potential pitfalls such as lost ratings and playlist membership.
Use Shift > View > Show Exact Duplicate Items to display duplicates as this is normally a more useful selection. You need to manually select all but one of each group to remove. Sorting the list by Date Added may make it easier to select the appropriate tracks, however this works best when performed immediately after the dupes have been created.  If you have multiple entries in iTunes connected to the same file on the hard drive then don't send to the recycle bin.
Use my DeDuper script if you're not sure, don't want to do it by hand, or want to preserve ratings, play counts and playlist membership. See thisthread for background, this post for detailed instructions, and please take note of the warning
to backup your library before deduping.
(If you don't see the menu bar press ALT to show it temporarily or CTRL+B to keep it displayed.)
The most recent version of the script can tidy dead links as long as there is at least one live duplicate to merge stats and playlist membership to and should cope sensibly when the same file has been added via multiple paths.

  • Two sons with IPods who want the same playlist

Just bought my youngest son a Nano. Older one has a Mini. Younger one wants what his brother has as a playlist. I already set older brother up with ITunes and he's got about 100 songs purchased to date. Any way I can set up both of my sons to share the same playlist on their respective IPods?

    Paul,
You can sync the same library (if there is enough room on the iPod) or specific playlist(s) to multiple iPods. With the iPod connected, click the iPod icon in the bottom right of the iTunes window, then choose the iPod icon in preferences and select to auto sync the library, or specific playlists there.
The setting is saved on the iPod, so you could set each iPod individually if you like.

  • HT1420 I am trying to sync my iPhone to my computer with a new Apple ID that Ive just created because the original account has been applied on too many computers. iTunes is not allowing me to transfer my purchases with my new account. Help!!

I am trying to synch my iPhone with my computer, and new Apple ID. My iPhone is synced with another computer, but i have changed the Apple ID on my phone and authorized it on my computer. However, i can not transfer my purchases on to my new account. I have updated my phone, authorized the account on both my phone and my computer. And i do not wish to wipe my phone clean, because there is but one song on this new account. How do i transfer the music on my new account?

All content bought/downloaded from iTunes is tied to the account that downloaded it and it can't be transferred to a different account - so you will need to authorise your old account on that computer if you want to transfer its purchases over.

  • Cannot sync multiple iphones on 1 computer with multiple accounts

I have had no problems until recently.  I have 2 iphones that I sync with two different users on 1 Windows 7 PC.
I was always able to sync the respective iPhone with the iTunes on each individual account without any problem.  Now, it freezes up on 1 of the accounts, but works on the other.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes.  One sympton I noticed while troubleshooting is that it seems like iTunes is getting corrupted because even without syncing, if I select Edit/Preferences iTunes starts to hang.
.  Here is the sequence of events after uninstalling / reinstalling the last time:
    -  After verifying the install, I made sure that on both user accounts, iTunes was operating normally.  I did this by starting it up and playing a few songs and going to the Preferences, which it did quickly on both accounts
    -  On account 1, I synced iPhone 1 without any problems.  Exited iTunes.  Repeated a couple of times
    -  On account 2, verified that iTunes was working properly again
    -  Attached iPhone 2 on account 2 and it hung. Also gave me this error:  "iTunes was unable to load data class information from sync services"
    -  Now whenever I try and run iTunes on account 2, it plays songs but as soon as I try and access Preferences it hangs
    -  Running iTunes on account 1 and syncing account 1 is still no issue
This is very frustrating because I have not been able to sync iPhone 2 for a couple of weeks now.
    Thanks.

Any help?  If I unistall and reinstall iTunes, which ever account / phone I sync to first works, but the other account / phone will not work.
Is there anyone else out there who is successfully syncing 2 phones on 2 accounts on one computer?  Why isn't this working anymore - it worked fine for over a year until now?
