Need to automate DVD Production

I have customers who buy customized DVDs. The customer selects about 30 short training videos from a library of about 1000. The order arrives as a text listing of the videos that need to end up on DVD. I need to automate the process of putting those videos on a DVD, along with menus. Can anyone get me headed in the right direction?

Sounds like you have a perfect project for your own 'into to AppleScript' course. Your project a few steps, but not too many, and each step is not terribly complex, but not too simple.
Break each of the steps down and script each one, then tie them all together.
From what you describe there are two major parts; getting all the info together and burning the disk.
Copying files from a list is pretty easy. I think I would look at using a disk image. I am not a pro at disk burning, but I have been annoyed that Apple caches a disk image before burning. I was using Toast which would directly write a disk from an image. In your production environment a direct burn will mean higher throughput.
If you want to take this on yourself jump in and when you get stuck ask for help. I hope you will find that the more focused the question the more focused your response from this community.

Really,if you take care of your future customer, Your company needs responsibility to even just, one customer's sound.
Now, I have no solution except to buy external Firewire burner with my money.

Hi,
The delta load does not work for product categories but only products.So to bring in the new product categories into SRM you will need to start the load of the object DNL_CUST_PROD1 again.
The CRM middleware allows the following two methods for replication.
-Initial loads:
Launched manually (R3AS), the objects (customizing or business) are replicated between SRM and R/3, according to the filters you've put on the object (R3AC1 for Business objects like MATERIAL, R3AC3 for customizing objects like DNL_CUST_PROD0 and 1).
-Delta loads:
This option is only possible for Business objects, which is the case of MATERIAL.
With this option a daemon is launched between the 2 servers. Every modification made on an object on SRM or R/3 is transfered as soon as this object is contained in the filter retrictions (creation and/or modification). this is done through transaction R3AC4.

DVD Production/Compressor/Archiving - Format?

I've spent a significant amount of time in the last few days on the boards, trying to come up with an answer for this... And while I'm much more educated, I haven't found someone with the exact answer.
The quick background... We are new to FCP and DVDSP by about 4 months. We are a public school channel, producing video about the good things going on in the district. Our features are mostly short, 2-3 mins, with some longer applications. We had been using an avid, playing in real time to a Canopus Amber card in another PC. The file this would make would be a MPEG-2 that we send to our MVP-2000 to air. We were also able to use this file to burn to DVD using Nero (NOT my choice, but it was easy, and all we had), and for archival purposes
With our new G5, we are starting to use it for DVD produciton. DVD studio Pro is MUCH better than Nero.
Yet, I'm having a hard time grasping what I need to do to make the video look good. From FCP, I went to Compressor, and chose the "Best Quality, DVD 90 mins" setting. This gave my settings VBR two pass, Avg. 6.2, Max 7.7, Best motion estimation. The result? Crap. A lot of artifacting.
This seems pretty consistent with what I'm reading in other user's experiences. So I tried some settings, and the best one I found was using compressor to do a One Pass, 7.2 bit rate, GOP 7, Best motion estimation.
Yet, this setting is only video, then I have another for audio (obviously...) So I have two files in the end. Not a big deal for DVD production. And they are relatively small, both files totaling about 130 MB for three-ish mins.
I also tried to avoid compressor, using Export-Quicktime Movie in Final Cut. Then, in DVD SP, telling the encoder to use One pass, 7.2, Best motion estimation. This setting also appeared to work well. And it is nice because I have a quicktime movie file that I can use for multiple things. I can send it to air, I can send it to DVD and DVD SP encodes it properly, AND I can archive the file to disc, AND if I drop it right back into FCP, it's right there, no rendering or anything. Yet, the file is nearly 3 times the size, just under 400MB. Obviously because it's uncompressed.
SO........ My question becomes... Is there anyone out there with a similar workflow? I like having the quicktime file, simply because there is then ONE file that I have to deal with, and ONE version can do multiple things. Yet, the file size is rather large, and if we do anything longer than a few minutes, that's gonna be one big file...
Suggestions on how to export from FCP into a format that will work for these different applications?

Right about the separate tracks. The nice thing is about the QT file, is that DVD SP separates that out for me, and I kinda like that.
Good to know about DVD SP having a tendancy to crash. I haven't seen it do this yet, but good to know it's out there.
Yea, I see there is a lot more control in compressor than DVD SP. Yet, if I can do a simple QT movie and have DVD SP encode it, it helps my workflow a bit, only having one step to encode for archive, DVD, and air.
So let me ask this... The reason I like having one file to "do it all" is because it seems to make it easy. Encoding with the canopus before, we would have that MPEG file on our PC, and we could archive those to CD every so often. If someone comes back to us in a few months and says "Hey, can I get a DVD of that Show Choir performance", I have most likely ditched the media from my drive. So all I have to do is open my database to find the CD it's on, get that disc, and import the file back onto the computer, and burn using Nero, and it's finished.
Keep in mind that we don't burn a copy of every performance/story to it's own DVD. If we did that, and someone wanted a copy in 3 months, we could just dub that disc. Yet, we don't do that because we will get requests for certain stories to be on the same disc.
We also archive everything we do to full size DV CAM tapes. So, yes, we could re-import the finsihed video when someone wants a copy of something, but why do that if we can already have a digital file (Our MPEG file) on a CD already.
So, I suppose my question becomes... If I want to stay using the same workflow of having one file to work with, do I just have to get used to the fact that my QT files will be huge? Or is there a way in File-Export-Using QT conversion that I can shrink that file by half or two thirds and not loose a lot of quality?

you should deactivate (help>deactivate) that installation on the old workstation. then download and install on your new work station using your serial number. (ie, make sure you can find your serial number - if you need help with this, let us know.)

If you already registered, then there is no point to trying to do so again. Simply dismiss the dialog.

Need to author DVD from FCP X

I converted to FCP X and need to author DVDs from the footage I shot. Since I still have DVD Studio Pro I imported the footage, authored the DVD and burned it. It won't play on my DVD player, Blu Ray player or even my Mac. In the build I get notes that say:

I don't know if that is telling me what the problem is or not. Any help would be appreciated.

FYI, DVD is always SD, irrespective of whether the authoring program is DVD Studio Pro, or something else. The only HD that DVD SP ever supported was the long-obsolete HD DVD. Nor has Apple ever integrated Blu Ray devices into their hardware.
There is a lower quality version of Blu Ray that is available in FCP and which can be burned to a normal DVD-R disk. You start with a Bllu Ray setting and select a DVD drive for the Output Device. The limitations are that it's half the bit rate and you're limited to about 30 minutes. But it is HD resolution. Give a try if you're interested.

On both a MacBook Pro, an Acer laptop and my Mac Tower. I would love to think that it is a problem with the playback system, and that if I merely send the file off to the duplicator they won't have the same problem. Maybe that is the case...I don't know if I have a choice rather than sending it off to see. But it happens in the same spots, in the same way, on all three of the players so I'm a little reluctant to have faith.

For a DVD, one is limited by the total Bit-Rate (both Audio & Video), but with longer prodcutions, some users choose too low a Bit-Rate. If this is the issue, one would need to go back to the original Project and do a new Export/Share."
Of course, but in the case there is no more 'original project.' It is gone like the wind, stolen along with his computer and backups.
I think I am stuck using one of two files as my master: a DVD he burned where I only see the stutter/vibration/jitter once, or the mpeg2 file where I see it three times. Hopefully, the duplication house can rip if off of one of them and not see the jitter. I know that in audio, my personal filed, you can do a lot to enhance already existing sound--EQ, compression, tape saturation emulation software, etc. I guess I'm hoping there is some kind of analog to the video world that address jitter after a source has been printed--if indeed the source has been printed to be jittery.

I think you are probably going to have to come up with more specific questions to get the best assistance from the forums. Your questions is extremely broad and I'm not even sure where one would begin to answer it.
For general workflow technical integration into WDA search the forums. There have been questions on this topic (and solutions). The SAP Press Workflow book also has a good chapter on the subject.
It sounds like you need to do some basic research on WDA and how it works. SDN is the right place, but I wouldn't expect someone to give you all the information you need in a forum posting. Have a look at the eLearnings, the online help (which for WDA is quite good), the WDA wiki and lurk around in this forum. You will pickup a lot of the fundamentals that way.

Process:
The customer create a production order in CO01 and then they confirm the order in CO15, after confirmation TR is created ( we can see this in LB10 ) and negative stock is created ( we can see this in LS24 ).
Requirement:
They are asking to create the TO automatically after the production order confirmation. Negative stock is afecting the process.
Workaround:
They are creating the TO in background in LB10. ( negative is fixed )
Question:
Can we create the TO automatically after confirmation in standard configuration?
if no , how can we confirm this TO .using a JOB option?
