Need to format the old ASM disks on solaris.10.

Hello Gurus,
we uninstalled the ASM on solaris, but while installing the ASM again it says that mount point already used by another instance, but there is no db and ASM running (this is the new server) so we need to use dd command or need to reformat the raw devices which already exists and used by the old ASM instance, here is the confusion...
there are 6 Luns presented to the this host for ASM,its not used by anyone...

so we need to know where the raw devices located for oracle to do the dd command to remove the old asm header on the raw device inorder to start the fresh installation

  • Move RAC database - need to format the disk storage having RAC and ASM

    Hello,
    Short story:
I need to format the disk storage used by a two nodes RAC with ASM.
How can I have the database working the new disk storage.
    Long story:
We decided to change the external disk storage formatting from RAID 5 to RAID 10.
Configuration is: 2 Solaris nodes having Oracle software installed on each node and running with ASM
    - node1: ORCL1 database and +ASM1 asm instances
    - node2: ORCL2 database and +ASM2 asm instances
Available is a NFS storage with plenty of space.
Please tell me which would be the easiest way to move the database?
    Thank you

    Thanks alot for your answer.
    1) There is more trouble: I also have the Voting disk and the OCR on the same (and only) SAN storage. Do you know about steps to backup/restore and/or recreate these?
As I said I have a NFS file system available with plenty of space.
    2) I will need to backup the database, which way would you recommend: RMAN or EXP ?

Firstly, what is the source of the 10.6.4 disc? Is it the original installation disc for your MacBook, or one 'borrowed' from another computer?
It isn't the retail version, because that's 10.6.3.
Assuming it's the correct disc (i.e. the one that shipped with your Mac), you need to boot from it again.
    OK the language page.
From the installer screen, ignore the continue button, go to the menu bar and choose Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
In DU, select your internal drive in the sidebar (the top item with the makers name and serial no.).
Run Repair Disk. If that comes up as disk OK, click the partition tab. Select the partiton from the drop-down above the graphic; 1 partiton is all you need.
Go to the options button and ensure that the partition scheme is GUID and the file system to Mac OS Extended (Journalled). Name the partiton (usually Macintosh HD), click Apply.
When the Macintosh HD volume appears below the drive name, quit DU and see if you can then install.
If the screen after the language screen doesn't show the menu bar, it may be necessary to use another Mac to do the job with the MB in Firewire Target Disc Mode. If it won't boot in TDM, or the MB doesn't have FireWire then it's getting very difficult.

  • I have 1TB hard drive i cant drag or sent to it although i can view it on my desk top do i need to format the hard drive ? please advise

i have 1TB hard drive i cant drag or sent to it although i can view it on my desk top do i need to format the hard drive ? please advise

If the format is NTFS, which it likely is, then follow Ralph's advice, but youmay also want to partition it with GUID partition table.
In Disk Utility, select the drive, then Partiiton tab.
Choose 1-partition from the popup menu.
Click the Options button (it is only enabled if you change the partition layout, above).
    Select GUID partition table.
Then, give the drive a Name and format of Mac OS Extended (Journaled).
If you wish to use the drive with Windows, use MSDOS or exFAT. MSDOS will limit files sizes to 2GB. Some think exFAT is flakey.

  • Can I allocate RAM as disk space- like the old 'RAM disk' back in the day

I've got 11 gigs of RAM, and Photoshop wants <4. Is there a way I can allocate some of the leftover RAM through the OS-- similar to the old 'RAM disk' back in the day? If I could, I could make it the primary scratch disk for Pshop and hopefully see a significant in-app speed increase.
I'm posting this as an OS question, not a Pshop question.
    Thanks

You would need to search at VersionTracker or MacUpdate to see if there is a compatible utility for a ram disk. There were several such animals around but nothing more recent than 2008. They may still work, but no assurances that they do. Use with caution. Be sure to check that they are Intel compatible at the very least.

    1) In 'ExFAT' format, is there a limitation on the file size?
    Not one that will matter.
    2) Is 'MAC OS Extended' format, only for MAC computers?
    Yes, only for Mac
    3) What are those (a) journaled (b) Encrypted & (c) Case-sensitive? or when to use those?
    Again, only for Mac.

  • I just created an iCloud email and I want to use that email for my iTunes account as well. I need help suiting the old apple I'd because I do not remember anything associated with that email and I don't know the security questions

I just created an iCloud email and I want to use that email for my iTunes account as well. I need help switching the old apple ID because I do not remember anything associated with that email and I don't know the security questions or the login for that old email.

You cannot do that.  The AppleID you used to create the iCloud account is an active primary email address.  The email address you created with the iCloud account is also an active primary email address (all Apple domain email address automatically become AppleIDs as well).  You cannot replace the primary email address on one active AppleID with the primary email address on another, active AppleID.
You can use your iCloud email/AppleID with iTunes, but it will be a separate account, so all your previous purchases remain tied to the other AppleID you have.
I don't understand your statement that you could not remeber your old AppleID password, as you would have had to use it to create the iCloud account in the first place (the first step of creating the iCloud account required you to login with your existing AppleID and password)?

  • After reverting back to Garageband 6.0, I find that I still lack all the Garageband Effects (Distortion, Vocal Transformer, etc.). The Garageband 10 "AU" plug ins are there instead. I need help getting the old effects back.

For background: I lost my v6 because I had to reformat my whole hard drive. When I reformatted I lost GB and everything else I had. I downloaded GB (unaware of the awfulness that is v10) from the App Store. The fact that v10 does not have all my favorite and most used effects from v6, I uninstalled v10 and redownloaded v6 from my App Store Purchases. I load up v6 only to find that all the default effects are there for each instrument, but when I go to add an effect (i.e. Distortion, Vocal Transformer, Flanger, etc.), instead of the list of classic effects, there's the list of awful AU effects from v10. What gives?!

For me, the "Edit" panel in GB6.0.5 looks like this:
Are you saying, that the upper part with "GarageBand Effects" is missing?
Then check, what is installed in your System Library in the folder
    /Library/Application Support/GarageBand/Instrument Library/
(the topmost "Library" folder on your Hard Drive.
You may need to restore the old GarageBand effects and Track settings files from your backup:
    i.e look into the folder /Library/Application Support/GarageBand/Instrument Library/Plug-In Settings/
and restore the settings for Chorus, Flanger, Vocal Transformer, Tremolo, whatever effects you are missing.
And also look for missing files in "Track Settings" folder and "Sampler" folder.
What kind of backup do you have? If you have a Time MAchine backup, go back in time to the time before you upgraded to GB 10.

  • Hello All. I am working on a form, but I need to format the leading in a multi-line text-field.

Hello All. I am working on a form, but I need to format the leading in a multi-line text-field. The options for the text-field only show a font size option, but no other styling options. Is there a way to format the leading? Thanks!

Not within ID, and I'm not sure it can be done in Acrobat afterward either.

  • Do I still need to use the old mobile me backup system for backing up a mac desktop and if I delete it will it affect the memory of my system which has now Maverics

Do I still need to use the old mobile me backup system for backing up all my data and having it able to get at in case of a crash, or can the icloud reset everything? Because I can not find any structured refrence, as to how it would be done. I am updated to Maverics. Also does the icloud continue if I uninstall the backup to free up space?

MobileMe was discontinued in 2012 and all the data stored on it was deleted, and iCloud can't make backups of Macs.
What I recommend you to make backups is to get an external drive and use Time Machine or an application like Carbon Copy Cloner. With this, you can access to your data everywhere and safely, and then, if you want, use a cloud storage service like CrashPlan. You can keep on using iCloud without backups

  • Do I need to uninstall the old version 5.7

After the version 6 is installed do I need to uninstall the old version 5.7. After the install I imported a job's photos and realized they had imported to the 5.7 install.

    Hi Pete,
Lightroom 5 & 6/CC both are individual applications and can be installed simultaneously, unless you don't need them.
So, in short the answer is Yes you can uninstall the old version in case you don't need it.
    Cheers!
