Need to invisible a page in left navigation but should appear in shortcuts

Hi,
I need to hide a page in left navigation but the shorcut for this(quick link ) is required .As i have to give this as shorcut for my page .Can anyone help me on this

Hi,
Why do you need a quick link of a page which is not visible for users?
Basically quick links are ment for quick navigation, so if the page is not present in navigation, then you cannot use them.

You can give it a try to set property Invisible in Navigation Areas to true for your page. This makes it invisible in left navigation, but I doubt you can click the quick link of this page to open it.

i am having a requirement where in i need to a show a report- which is actually a 3rd party tool's custom web part -. this web part is a report which has lot of metadata. so customer doesnt want to see the custom master page
or left navigation, top navigation, right nav in this page.
is it possible to achieve a blank web part page that doesnt have custom master page applied- i mean this page should not inherit the my custom master page- and just add the custom web part here.

1.use a blank page using sharepoint designer
2. remove applied master page for an existing page
3 use &isdlg=1 on your URL ( to hide the top of the master page elements )

OOTB Left Navigation error in Page Layout SharePoint 2013

I created a SharePoint 2013 master page through Design Manager in Sharepoint 2013 and created a page layout like we do trough sharepoint designer as in sharepoint 2010 steps are below
SharePoint Designer--->Page Layouts---->New Page Layout
now i want to insert left navigation in the page layout ,i tried to insert the following snippet in the page layout

but i get the following error when i create page through this page layout
"Content Place holders are only allowed in master page"
Can anyone tell me how do i insert left navigation in page layout which is created through sharepoint designer (.aspx file) but master page is created through design manager

As the error says, you need to add Content Place holders to Mater Page not the Page Layout.
For inserting left navigation, you can add Vertical Navigation SharePoint component to the master page using Snippets manager:
1.
Open the site then click design manager link from right top corner "Settings".
2.
Click “Edit Master Pages” link.
3.Click your custom mater page. It will open preview page.
4.
Once open the preview page then click Snippets menu from top right side. It will open “Snippet Gallery” in new tab page.
5.
Click the Vertical Navigation menu item in “DESIGN “tab.
6.
In this page we can easy to configure component properties.
After customization must click the update button then only the changes are reflected in the component snippet.
7.
Once click the update button the HTML code automatically generated in the “HTML snippet” box and click “Copy to Clipboard” button.
8.
Open the mapped network drive then open the Mater Page HTML file and paste HTML snippet where you want the navigation to show.

How to add left navigation to Custom Master page for Office 365

But I could not see the left navigation, which I would like to have.

I have successfully converted an HTML Page to a SharePoint 2013 Master Page. I also created a Custom Page Layout. Using both them I have created my SharePoint Site with 30+ pages. Each page is consisted with the Top Header Navigation as it is inheriting
from the Master Page I have used. Now I need the left navigation inherit from the master page also. It gives me the advantage of updating it from the master page and affects it through the entire SharePoint Site.
But at the moment I am inserting the Left Nav using a web part as an HTMl code snippet individually for each and every page. If needs a modification I have to go through all the pages and do the modification. This is not convenient also. I want to this left
nav like the SharePoint Current Navigation alternative but within my Page Layout.
Is there an option to chat within these forums?
Could someone help me to solve this problem?

Hi,
In your HTML Page Layout, is your "current navigation" in its own content place holder, such as "PlaceHolderLeftNavBar" or did you add the current nav to the "PlaceHolderMain"?
Can you add CSS that hides the left nav found in each content page so that you do not have to manually remove the left nav? Then you could simply add the current nav back into the Master Page.

How hide hr from left navigation (snippet) on custom master page

Hi,
I have create a custom master page and add it the left navigation snippet, after making some css customization, I'm unable to hide the <hr> tag.
This is one of my tries on the .css file

I can't really see the right id in the screenshot, but something like this should work:
#DeltaPlaceHolderLeftNavBar > hr {
display:none;
or
#sideNaveBox hr {
display:none;
maybe even display:none!important;
Even better trying to remove the hr from the snippet.

SharePoint 2013---How to convert current left Navigation into tree view

I want to convert current left navigation into tree view in SharePoint 2013. When we click on Modify Navigation and set headers and links; I need that should be convert into tree view. All headers should be expandable to thier links.
I just want tree view on navigation headers and links. not for all site and subsites which we can enabled from site settings --> Modify All Site settings --> Tree view

Hi Anna,
If you want to replace the Quick Launch part with the custom treeview web part in master page, you can comment out or remove the quick launch code block "",
then insert the custom web part snippet code in proper location in seattle master page, then all pages inheriting the seattle master page will have this web part.
Note, please back up the master page before customizing the original master page for recovery.

Public browse page within institutional navigation & branding

I have a question concerning the public access to our iTunes U site:

I have been trying to include it within one of our web pages that uses our template with my institution's branding and navigation. I first tried the HTML <object> tag, but that doesn't work in Internet Explorer for content that does not come from our domain. I've tried a frameset, but that breaks our navigation.
I'd rather not use a solution that requires JavaScript, but I'd be interested ways that other folks have used to solve this problem.
We have PHP and Perl available on the server-side for scripting.

if am not wrong you need left navigation also customized then i clude it in your html file where entire page layout is defined and then convert that html by uploading it do page layouts using designer manager and use that page layout as home page layout

we are developing webdynpro components and aggregating then in portal. We have created pages /iviews and worksets for the components created in webdynpro and associated to the role. We have 2 levels (Links) on the top and 3rd Level (Will be displayed on the left hand side).
We need some links to be disabled or color changed if there is no data for that link in the back end. For example in the left hand side (3rd level) we have

link2
link3
link4.
Suppose when i click on link1 , i call a webdynpro component and depending on the data i retrieve from the back end i need to change color for link3 and link4.
Whether these sort of requirement can be achieved?
Specifically we looking to change the color of the navigation links on the left side based on the data retrieved by webdynpro component.
Note: We are using portal services to store the data between webdynpro components.
It would be great if any one can point me to a document where i can access a RFC from PDK.

It depends. When the person setup the website (likely using
Dreamweaver) they may have set it up so the navigation is either in
a Library item or is part of a locked area in the template. In
either case you can't edit it with Contribute. Items which appear
throughout the entire site should be maintained in one place
(rather than on each page) to make updating the global navigation
easier. So, the fact that you can't edit it on the page in
Contribute is a feature, not a problem.
So, if you want to be able to edit the navigation bar through
Contribute someone with the skill will need to setup your website
so the navigation is loaded via an include file that you can
access/edit with Contribute. Then, when you make updates to it, it
will automatically be applied to the rest of the site as well.

I have created a blog site but blog pages are not showing my current navigation, it has got its own left navigation, Can i show left (current) navigation? I am trying to find the page layout being used for blog items but unable to find.

By design, there is a left navigation in the blog site. Like the following image show.
Please check whether there is CSS style in site to hide the left navigation.
If you don’t want to use the default navigation, we can also customize a new one.
We can use SharePoint designer 2013 to modify it(In /_catalogs/masterpage/seattle.master ).

Conditional rendering of JSF page depending on Navigation case

Can we conditionally render the JSF page depending the navigation case, which brought us in that page..
Lets say that a page A does both Edit and create operations , we have two navigation cases "edit" and "create" directing to this page from main page. can we modify the components in the page depending on the navigation case.

your reply was helpful. i got into another scenario :-) where i need to know the navigation case which brought us into the page.
I have a page flow in adf which can be called by client applications both as a popup or a regular window. the ADF's dialog framework more or less solves my requirement. But to return values from dialog, i have to use "returnFromDialog" method on click of button in the popup window. as i am reusing the page i would write a conditional statement to show diff behaviour when launched as a popup.
my problem is that i do not want client application to set any parameter in the managed bean (this would get client apps into the implementation issues, causing unnecessary complexity). This again brings me back to the same question ability to KNOW (get handle of) the "navigation case".

Empty page Cache When Page is left

Hi
I have an Application that it is working correctly but needs a little enhancement.
My report Page has a Reset Button (which clears all the Cache for Items on the Page).
What I would like to do is clear the cache but only whenever somebody leaves the page.
They can currently leave the page by by pressing the Browser Back Button or by Using the Tab.

I submit the page on pressing the Go Button. This opens up another region which runs a query and displays the report.
If the user exits without pressing the reset button then the parameters are still retained if the page is left and re-entered.
This means that a long running query may be executed totally unnecessarily, without the parameters required by the user.
I do set the values on first loading but as I said I keep submitting the page which allows the hidden region to be displayed.

I have a portal home page with a navigation

I have a portal home page with a navigation bar that is accessible to the public. This site also contains information that can only be accessed by privileged user. Therefore, I have a login/logout icon on the page.
The problem that I am currently facing is that when I go to the page without logging in, the navigation bar is not visible. The only thing that is visible on the navigation bar are the links but without the labels. Labels or texts that are not links are visible. When I log in, only then is the navigation bar and its contents visible.
Can someone help me resolve this problem? Is it a "style" problem or is it "security" or "rights" problem?

Go to Settings in Chrome.
Then in On Startup either check the Open the New Tap pag, Continue to where left off, or edit Open a specific or set of pages. It appear you have the last one checked and it is opening up that page.
