Do I need to run DNS on a colo server being accessed remotely via VPN?

My Mac Mini Server is located in a colo site. We generally use it for Web, email and a couple of application-specific services. It has a dedicated IP address. We have a separate DNS service we use to point to the domains on the server located remotely from the server. Forward and reverse lookups work fine from the server, even though the local DNS service is turned off.
However, we now have a couple of things we want to access remotely on the server via VPN (for example, some files via AFP). The firewall blocks remote AFP requests (using the built-in firewall, not a separate box). We can connect via VPN without problems. However, AFP does not work. If I allow AFP in the firewall and try to connect, no problems at all.
Since the Mini is located by itself and will never likely have anything connected to a "local network" (never running DHCP, etc.), there generally doesn't seem to be a need to run DNS on the server.
I suspect the problem is that when you VPN into the server you are on its "local network", whatever that means, so the DNS does not resolve since the local DNS service is not running. However, I am not positive of this.
Must we run local DNS? Does it have to mirror the remote DNS that we currently reference? Can we somehow "reference" the local DNS from VPN clients trying to access local services?
I hope this question makes some sense.

The Mac Mini is in a data center on a shelf, getting a direct connection to the Internet via ethernet with a fixed IP address (under the covers, I suspect that the data center is using some sort of router or switch, but I am not paying for a hardware firewall or other gateway). There is no local network for the Mini. It is not running DHCP, not handing out NAT addresses, etc. DNS is currently off. Rather than using the local DNS, the Mini is resolving its DNS needs with a DNS server located at another site, over the Internet. This seems to work fine (i.e., changeip confirms it is working and services seem to work).
I am currently using the software firewall built into SLS.
I want to turn on VPN so that remotely located computers can access services on the Mini without having to make the services visible through the firewall.
I am able to connect devices via VPN with little difficulty (iPhones, Macs, etc.). However, when I try to access services (let's use AFP as an example), I cannot access them UNLESS they are allowed through the firewall. This tells me that I am not seeing the services through the VPN, but rather through the Internet directly.
What I meant by "local network" is that the VPN allocates local IP addresses when devices log into the VPN service (10.0.x.x). There is no DHCP allocating these addresses, just VPN.
My question is: why can I not see the services on the Mini blocked by the firewall when successfully logged into VPN on the server? Isn't the whole point of the VPN to gain access to services behind the firewall?
I am guessing (with no particular information to support my thesis) that somehow without DNS running on the Mini, VPN clients are unable to access services on the Mini. I do not know for sure, however, if this is the problem. If it IS a problem, then the question is whether I should completely copy the DNS entries from the remote DNS server to the Mini and start the service. Will that solve the issue? Create conflicts with the DNS (since it is now located on both a remote service and on the Mini)? It certainly will create a maintenance headache since now I will have to maintain the DNS in both places.
I am hesitant to migrate all of my DNS services to the Mini (because I will also have to go to the domain registrars to change where they point, etc.) to eliminate the remote one. And I am not sure it will solve this problem anyway.

Depending on the specific features that you think you need in a Virtual Machine, you should research the paid "Parallels" and "VMWare Fusion", and the free yet very capable "VirtualBox". I personally use VirtualBox because it does NOT include all of the Mac-to-VM interactivity features that the others do. For performance and security reasons, I specifically do not want my VM to be able to interact with my Mac OS host in any way other than copy and paste.
On your Windows VM, if you are running windows 8.1, and are not logged in as an administrator as your primary account, then the built in Windows Defender is a perfectly suitable for anti-malware protection. If you are running Windows 7 (or 8.1) and want additional protection I would recommend "BitDefender Free" as it has great protection yet has a very light-weight performance hit.

Need to run 2 diffrent payrolls at a time

We have an interesting scenario in which we need to run 2 different payrolls at a time, As this project is for an Government organization we were till now running only one payroll which was 4th pay commission, but now the client wants the payroll as per the 5th pay commission, but still we will need to run the 4 and 5 pay commission together as some of the employees have not accepted the 5th pay commission, so the clients wants the 5th pay to be run for all the employees who have accepted it, and wants to run the 4th pay commission for those employees who have not accepted the same.
Now we have decided to do the same through ABAP development as we did the same for the 4th pay commission before , we created one ZTABLE and one background Z program to support this table, now in this same program we are planning to do the 5th pay enhancement by using the same wage types (we will just need to create 1 more wage type for 5th Pay) , in short we will be using this same wage types for both 4th and 5th pay but this wage types calculation will be different for 4 and 5th pay which will be done through this table and the background program supporting this table, I would like to know that what precautions should be taken to do this, is this going to affect any other sub modules of HCM, and where all the effects will be there.

This you can do via off cycle payroll and you have to change the payroll areas to a new one so that for the employees who have accepted can be shifted to new payroll area and thaey can be paid differential amt via offcycle payroll

Need a code to check what type of access an account (username) and its responsibilities have in ERP - Is it Inquiry only or it have update access and/or ability to run concurrent jobs.
It means
A column (Has Update Capabilities?) should be placed in a report where there are different columns containing Form Name etc.
It should display like below
Update Capabilities --> Put Yes in this field
No Update Capabilities --> Put No in this field
Job Scheduling Capabilities --> Put 'Yes - Job Scheduling'

Run-time error '13': Type mismatch

There are A and B excel files.
And two different POV-dimension in two excel files

There is not any attribute dimension in pov A excel file.
There is one attribute dimension in pov B excel file.
The same VBA code excute is normal in A excel file.
But the same VBA code excute is "run-time error '13': Type mismatch " in B excel file.
The error '13' in the row of MsgBox (vtPOVNames(6)).
Is attribute dimension in pov cause this question?
And how did I solve this question?

Based on where the error is occurring, it looks like the value returned by vtPOVNames(6) is not defaulting to a string datatype for the msgbox.
Try 'cstr(vtPOVNames(6))' to force conversion of the value into a string. Also, you may want to test for nulls using IsNull() and empty variant values using IsEmpty().
It doesn't look like the code you posted shows vtPOVNames being populated. If you're populating the names yourself, you could always use a string array instead of a variant array. Just dim the string array using a statement such as, "Dim strPOVNames(6) as String" or "Dim strPOVNames() as String" in case you need to ReDim the array later to size it for a non-fixed set of POV names.

I know that I have to set sth in Plan version and that I have to fill the Activity Type master data in a different way than if I used them without revaluation.

Yes u r right u need to first set in plan version and after that its the client's discipline on transaction entry that drives this requirement.
1) If the transaction data is not posted correctly then activity hours will be vague and distorts the price.
2) You can do manual activity posting but that does solve the purpose.
3) Also u can correct activity hours posted for all orders in the system during month end, this also is a huge activity depending on the number of orders
4) Now if u wish to do price calculation thru system u need to decide on two aspects
One - plan ur costs for both activity dependent and activity independent
If your cost center has more than one activity being performed u need to do either cost splitting or enter equivalence numbers while doing activity planning
5) If u wish to hve prices calcualted by system, then during month end u need to run actual cost splitting and then do actual price calculation
6) Then u need to revaluate all your orders with actual activity prices

Why the need to "run as administrator"?

Our of curiousity, why do I need to run Premiere Elements 8 using the "Run as administrator" in Windows 7?
It is a bit annoying to have to type in a password just to run Premiere Elements 8 since I never use the administrator account to anything.

I dont run Win7, but I do run Vista-64, and I can attest to the fact that the Windows Security framework is a dark hole that is difficult for most to navigate thru and completely understand.
One can assume that with Win7, it's still a grey area that needs an official decoder ring for even the simple tasks.
I always install PE from the Admin Login and just give the rights to any User Account on the system.
With this approach I've never run into the situation where it must be Run as an Administrator.
If I'm not mistaken, PE may even require an Install from the Admin Login (I can't verify cause it's been so long that I've done the Install, that I don't remember).
The bottom line is if a particular Windows Object, PE in this case, is Owned by a particular Group or User, depending on it's Permissions and/or Access Rights will determine who can Run, Execute, or Modify that Object.
And unless your a Security maven, this could get real ugly, real fast (and you can screw up your System in a heartbeat if you don't know what your doing in this area).
Now you see why I install and Run it under the Admin Login and call it a day...

Manually Running Timer Job "Content Type Subscriber" on SP Online

I need to run the "Content Type Subscriber" timer job on my SP Online instance because the default setting is hourly. This makes it difficult to build out and deploy content types quickly because depending on when you make the content type
change you have to wait upwards of an hour to see it published.
When will we be able to run timer jobs using the PowerShell cmdlets or some other way? Is there a recommended approach by MS to handle this scenario?

What you describe is by design, I don't have to use a content type hub to reproduce. Only add a site content type into a list can show this.

if i compiled the package separately means, i can able to execute it successfully and also im receiving mails correspondingly.

end;But if i tried to execute the above package using a job means, it is not running corresponding to the time and also not receiving emails. This is my DBMS_JOB query that i used, it is compiling successfully without errors, but not working what is wrong with it.

Need to run the rescheduling job V_V2 whenever goods are received

Hi,
Whenever Goods are received into the warehouse then the rescheduler program v_v2 need to be run only for that particular material automatically.
Any help or suggestions would really be appreciated.

Thanks for your quick response.
Currently we are running V_v2 as a background job every night for all the materials.
But now we need to run it for a material for which goods are received.
If i run it as background job then it has to be run for a specific set of materials or for all the materials in the plant.
But my need is whenever I receive Goods through MIGO, I need to run V_v2 automatically for the material for which i received goods.
