Need to setup monitoring aon multiple ports for IDS

I have a cisco 3845. I need to need to setup monitoring aon multiple ports for IDS on 2 ports. How do I do this.
Also,
Is there a way to make ports on the switch portion act like hubs.
Thanks

I assume that you are referring to the Ethernet Switch Module in the 3845. If so it should support SPAN. Here is a SPAN configurations guide:

  • Listen on multiple ports for smtp?

Traditionally, we've provided setup smtp to listen on an additional port to 25 for travellers who find themselves on an ISP which blocks that port. We used a line in master.cf like:
    <newportnumber> inet n - y - - smtpdproxywrite unix - - n - 1 proxymap
This seems to make snow leopard's postfix unhappy. It also doesn't work. I'd be grateful if anybody could tell me:
    * what is or where to look for info on setting up postfix to do multiple ports? I've tried Apple docs and found nothing and only old-style in postfix docs -- though I could be missing something obvious as always.
    * is this the modern and preferred way to get around the blocked port 25 problem or is it better to do some fancy-schmancy port redirection eg at the firewall to map multiple ports on to port 25 for postfix?
    thanks and allbests,

In the past I've used the following with great success. Add the following line to /etc/postfix/master.cf file:
    2525 inet n - n - - smtpd
Stop and start the mail service. Then test with telnet to ensure that the port is responding. Sadly, this still appears to be the best way, sans the use of a VPN, to get around ISP blocking.
Obviously port 25 needs to be open to receive mail. But instead of opening additional port in the firewall, you could drive all users to VPN.
I just tested the above line in 10.6.1 and it is responding.
    Hope this helps

  • Multiple port for one instance

    hello there,
    Here is my requirement...
If one of my master ldap went down for couple of hours and when i bring it up... all the arrowpoint traffic is routed immediately to this server and hence whatever changes happend in the secondary server was not showing up immediately in this primary master server. To avoid this issue.. can i use a different port for replication only and once the replication is completed , then i want to allow the client to access the main port.
Is it possible? Any idea? Thank you for anyone input.
    SS

    1. EITHER multi-home your network card so that it has multiple IP addresses
Launch each instance of ldap with the commandline option to bind this instance to a particular IP address
    2. OR provide alternate ports for each instance of ldap
This is easier to do . However, it is not recommended for production systems. Usually used in development.
If the scenario is production environment use first method.
If it is a development environment try the second.
See the port properties. Check the ldap port settings.
NOTE: ldap has a known bug. To fix this get into sun site. This bug is fixed.
    Thanks

  • Multiple IP vs Same IP multiple port for virtual hosts

Anyone have any recommendations or experience in setting up a virtual host that has a listener for each site?
The issue is when I have to restart a single site, I have to restart them all, because they are installed under the same listener/server.
I need a setup where I can install and manage each website (on the same box) on it's own listener/server instance so re-starting one site doesn't effect another.

Add a service in the Network preference pane. Select the network interface you want; e.g., Ethernet. Configure as desired. Apply and test.

  • Multiple Ports for one Content in CSS

    Dear All,
We configure a CSS11506 (v5.2) and the enduser wants to setup only one content (vip address) to support multiple services (such as http, https and DNS).
Since, in the configuration, we can only set one port in content rule. Is there any method to setup this requirement? Or we only need to create several content with the same VIP but for different services port?
    Thank you very much!
    Best Regards,
    Lawrence

take a look at the odcumentation regarding the way in which the css processes rules, you can have multiple rules with the same vip...just specify the separate tcp ports in each rule, making them layer 4 rules.
I would advise against an L3 rule, as there is an outstanding bug in the 5.00 and 5.03 releases regarding unexpected switch reboots when UDP hits a rule.

  • Help needed to setup AX as a router for Wild Blue Internet

    Hello,
I have new satellite internet service with Wild Blue and for three weeks now I have been trying to figure out how to set up a router, so my husband and kids can get online on their laptops. The modem is currently attached to the oldest desktop we have (the one listed below). They told me I could use any router, but that doesn't work, because the two routers I got I had to bring back to the store because I could not read the windows based setup "wizard." Tonight, once again, I plugged in the AX and connected the ethernet cable of my modem to the ethernet port of the AX. When I try to run airport utilities, it's not showing me anything, however. It's not picking up anything at all. This desktop does not have an airport card, but that should not be the problem according to the documentation I read. All the laptops naturally have airport cards. I am at my wits end, and confused too, since my modem only has one ethernet port and I cannot connect my desktop and connect the airport express at the same time. Is that the problem ? Any help would be appreciated. Wild Blue specifically states to not offer help with routers, I read somewhere on their site. If I had known that I would not have signed a two year commitment

Hello PClaus. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
In order to administer your new AirPort Express Base Station (AXn), the computer has to have the AirPort Utility installed. This will either be available with OS X Leopard or on the installation CD that came with the AXn. If your desktop Mac is not wireless, then the only way to access the AXn would be to connect the AXn directly to the Mac with Ethernet or connect both the AXn and your Mac to an Ethernet switch. Since you state that your laptops are wireless, I suggest using one of them to do the administration. Let me know if you were successful.

  • Spanned port for IDS

We're about to get an IDS system which will require a spanned port on the inside of our network. Inside our network we have a few 6500's so I'd span a port on one of our core switches...my question is, there is definetly more then 1GB of traffic going through the core at any time...how would I get all this traffic to the IDS system? Would I just create an etherchannel and use it as a destination, and plug all the ports into the IDS?

Thanks for that link. According to that link you have to have seperate IDS's attached to the etherchannel (one per port):
"The IPS appliances must be in on-a-stick mode, meaning that the IPS appliance can only use one sensing port on that Catalyst switch. That port is trunked so that the IPS appliance has an inbound and outbound path to and from the switch."
Am I reading that wrong? Can I have one IPS with three or four ports attached to the same switch in an etherchannel?
It's starting to sound like I'm going to have to limit what ports I source...which means the IDS could potentially miss a threat or report it later then it could....

  • Multiple ports in scan listener

We have a rac two node on exa database machine with scan listener running from port 1525.
    version 11.2.0.4
we want to add another port to scan-listener. will it have any adverse affect on existing infrastructure.

    Hi user13427480 -
The support for the Grid Infrastructure and SCAN, including setting up multiple ports for the SCAN listener, is the same on Exadata as any other Linux x86-64 environment. I have not actually configured this and tested it personally on Exadata, but there shouldn't be anything about the Exadata infrastructure that would affect it. As with any change you should test and validate it in your non-prod environment before deploying anything into production.
    Thanks,

  • Enable motherboard port for three monitor setup Leonovo H430

    Hello
I have a Lenovo H430 running windows 7 home prem 64-bit w/ 8 GB RAM and an Nvidia GeForce GT 620 2 GB video card. I have two monitors hooked up to the GeForce and a third hooked up to the motherboard port.
I have gone into the BIOS and I have three choices - Auto, PCIe and Integrated. I have tried all three and I can't get my third monitor fired up. I bought this computer and the video card only about six months ago. I'd hate to have to go out and spent money on another card with three ports. Please advise.

    hi dmille,
    Welcome to Lenovo Forums!
The GeForce GT 620 2 GB video card that is connected to your mainboard will automatically Disable the onboard Graphics.
If your Ge Force only have 2 ports for display then the only option you can have with making it work is to get a splitter like this, This will only clone what's on the other VGA display.
But if your really intend to have Three Display with extended Settings, You are really need a Three Port Graphics Card.
    Hope this helps,

  • I have 12 core with Quatro 4000 and 5770, I want to use dual monitor setup, monitors are NEC with Spectraview-II.  How do I connect?  4000 only has 1 Display Port and 1 DVI.  5770 has 2 of each, if I use both 5770 Display Ports, does the 4000 contribute?

I just bought a 12 core with Quatro 4000 and 5770, I want to use dual monitor setup, monitors are NEC with Spectraview-II.  How do I connect?  4000 only has 1 Display Port and 1 DVI.  5770 has 2 of each, if I use both 5770 Display Ports, does the 4000 contribute any work at all?  I read where on a PC they would work together, but on a MAC they do not.
I read that Display Port has higher band width than DVI, NEC monitors for best performance they recommend using DIsplay Port.
When I was setting this up I looked at a Nvidia Quadro 4000, unfortunately it was for PC, it had 2 Display Ports, in the Mac version they reduce it to one.  I did not think there could be a difference.
Mainly want to use it for CS6 and LR4.
    How to proceed???
I do not want to use the Quadro 4000 for both, that would not optimize both monitors, one DP and 1 DVI.  Using just the 5770 would work but I do not think the 4000 would be doing anything, and the 5770 has been replaced by the 5870.more bandwidth.
Any ideas, I am a Mac newbie, have not ever tried a Mac Pro, just bought off ebay and now I have these problems.
As a last resort I could sell both and get a 5870.  That would work, I'm sure of that, it's just that I wanted the better graphics card.
    Thanks,
    Bill

    The Hatter,
I am a novice at Mac so I read all I can.  From what I understand the NEC monitors I bought require Display Port for their maximum performance.  The GTX 680 only has DVI outputs.  Difference from what I understand is larger bandwidth with the DP.
You said I have the 4000 for CUDA.  I am not all that familiar with CUDA and when I do read about it I do not understand it.
A concern I have is, that if I connect the 2 high end NEC monitors via the 5770, using it's 2 Display Ports I would have nothing connected to the 4000.  Is the 4000 doing anything with nothing connected?  I read where in a PC system the 2 cards would interact but in a Mac system they do not.
Bottom line, as I see it, the 4000 will not be useful at all to me, since I want a dual monitor set-up.
So far the 5870 seems the best choice, higher band width than the 5770, and it has 2 Display Ports to optimize the NEC monitors.
I'm not sure how fine I am splitting hairs, nor do I know how important those hairs are.  I am just trying to set up a really fast reliable system that will mainly be used for CS6 and LR4.  Those NEC monitors are supposed to be top notch.

  • How to forward the same ports for multiple IPs?

Hi all, I just bought a Linksys WRT54GS router and I would like to forward the same set of ports for two different computers on my network (192.168.1.101 and 192.168.1.3) however when I try to, I get a "Port Overlap" error. Is there another way I can do this? I am trying to set up Age of Empires II. Thanks for any help!

No.  You cannot forward the same port to two different computers  (or IP addresses).
    Here's the reason why:
You and your friend are both playing the game online.  You score 1000 points.  Your friend scores 10 points.  The signal to increase your score 1000 points arrives on port 3078.  Which computer is the router supposed to send this signal to?  Both computers?   No way!
Most online games have a way to assign different ports to different computers.  For example, you might use ports 3075 thru 3078, while your friend uses ports 3175 thru 3178.  If your game is setup this way, it should work.
Also, you will want to forward ports to a fixed LAN IP address.  In your WRT54GS, note that any fixed LAN IP address must be outside the DHCP server range, and it cannot end in 0, 1, or 255.   So the 192.168.1.101  address is probably an illegal fixed LAN IP address.
Here are all the Linksys rules for using fixed LAN IP addresses:
With Linksys routers, a fixed (static) LAN IP addresses must be assigned in the device that is using the address. So you need to enter the fixed address in the computer or printer, not in the router.
When using a Linksys router, any fixed LAN IP address must be outside the DHCP server range (typically 192.168.1.100 thru 192.168.1.149), and it cannot end in 0, 1, or 255.
Therefore any fixed LAN IP address would normally need to be in the range of
    192.168.1.2 thru 192.168.1.99 or
    192.168.1.150 thru 192.168.1.254
assuming you are still using the default DHCP server range.
Also, in the computer, when you set up a static LAN IP address, you would need to set the "Subnet mask" to 255.255.255.0 and the "Default Gateway" to 192.168.1.1 and "DNS server" to 192.168.1.1
It is also important that no two devices on your network be set to the same static LAN IP address.
Typically, when I setup gamers, I put thier fixed addresses all together at 192.168.1.21 , 192.168.1.22, etc.   But you can use any legal fixed addresses that you want.

Do I need to export multiple sizes for all standard print sizes? i.e.Say I crop the image in LR to 6'5" x 9' to fit within an 11" x 14" (overall) mat of a framed print.. Now let's say I want to reprint that same image in a 12" x 16" size ... to fit within a mat of with overall size of 20" x 24"? Or will the 1st export be "locked" at 6.5" X 9" (proportionately)?

So, for the first one Export it cropped to 6.5 x 9 - and in the Export Dialog box there is a capability to rename the file for exported output - which would allow you to add something like the crop or intention to the base name of the file.  e.g. for _IMG0846.nef - setup the output filename to _IMG0846-65x9 for 11x14.jpg and output it at, say 300 or 360 dpi.  So, it has a unique name and purpose in your output folder.
For best results, now, re-crop the picture in LR - just open the crop [R] dialog again, reframe the image to the new ratio, 12x16 and Export again - with an adjustment to the filename. e.g. _IMG0846-12x16 for 20x24.jpg
So, now you have two clearly identified image files in your output area and you can provide those to whomever is printing for you, etc.  Discard them when you're done since you always have the original to return to to re-frame again as necessary.
This way you get output sharpening and resolution (in pixels) optimized for your output print size.  Maybe not super important for smallish prints-but more important for larger ones.   Output at 100 quality.
