Need to trim space from time field

I've got a text box in my report where I am dropping in two times: start time and end time.
{EarlyShiftStart}-{LateShiftEnd}
My problem is if the late shift end is a time less than 10, it adds an extra space between the "-" and the start time.
So instead of:
8:00 AM-3:00PM
it is 8:00 AM- 3:00 PM.
Is there a way to have this extra or padded space removed?
Thanks,

Hi,
What is the data type of your database fields for times?
If those are of type datetime, then you can use cStr(<your database field>, "hh:mm tt"), which will give you the time part as required by you and can try something like this:
cStr(<your database field for early shift time>, "hh:mm tt") & '-' & cStr(<your database field late shift time>, "hh:mm tt")
Thanks,
Raghavendra

    Hi Viren,
    You can code like this

  • Hard drive crashed need to restore iphotos from Time Machine

    I need some serious help. I have a 24inch intel imac and my hard drive failed. I thought I had everything backed up on my external hard drive via Time Machine (my last backup was April 11th) so I replaced the hard drive.
    Once I reinstalled Leopard 10.5 it asked me if I wanted to restore my data from Time Machine which I did. It seemed like it worked great but when I opened up iphoto all 43,000 pictures (cherished family pictures of our children) were gone!
    iphoto still has the Event Titles, how many photos, and the sizes but they are empty with nothing but a big exclamation point. I see the iphoto library under Time machine as well but the restore is grayed out I can't even go back in time because the arrow is grayed out.
    I named the new hard drive "new SG 1.0TB" and the old one was just named Macintosh HD. I read briefly somewhere that the old and new hard drives need to have the same name. Is this correct? Also does it make a difference that I had Leopard 10.5.6 when my photos were available and now I'm only on 10.5? Please help!
    I had some help from another forum and he told me to look under the Pictures Folder and find the iPhoto Library and right click on it and select 'Show Package Contents. All the folders are there (teasing me) but there are no pictures in the folders so nothing. But I was searching again on my external time machine backup and found iphotos under time machine backups/backups.backupdp/Ryan Gunter's Computer (2)/2009-01031-002706/Macintosh HD/Users/ryang808/pictures. It had all my iphotos from 1999 until the january 2009 but everything from this date to present is not there (the folders are there but nothing in them) could they still be hiding somewhere?? And how do I get the ones I do have back in iPhoto?
    Any help would be appreciated. Thanks so much!

    sorry but, no. if they are not there there is no other place they could be. for some mysterious reason TM didn't back them up. still you should restore what you can. quit iphoto, control-click on TM in the dock and select "browse other TM disks". this will let you browse your old backups via TM interface. locate the folder Macintosh HD/Users/ryang808/pictures on january 31 backup and restore its contents to your Pictures folder. start iphoto and it should have alll those pictures.

  • Urgent Need for Freeing space on time machine

    unable to free space on time machine for backups. Unable to see option to delete various backups by right clicking on the file name in the list on the right side of the screen. I clicked on the "gear icon" on the actual picture of the backup in Time Machine and selected "delete" for about a year's worth of backups. Those no longer show up in the list on the right side of the Time Machine screen, but it still indicates that I have only 30 GB available on the disk. [I have only 9GB left on my Macbook 5,1 and I am wanting to upgrade the hard drive and RAM, but I cannot back up my Macbook before upgrading the HD]. If anyone can help with this I will greatly appreciate it.

    Hi, and welcome to the forums.
    Normally there's no reason to manually delete backups. When it runs out of room, Time Machine will do that automatically.
    When Time Machine backups are done over a network, they're placed in a rather odd container called a +sparse bundle disk image.+ It grows in size when things are added, but it doesn't shrink automatically when things are deleted.
    But you can "compact" it manually, if you really want, to recover the space. See the pink box in #12 of Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions.

  • Need to reclaim space from dwh tables.

    We have couple of large tables (> 200G) in one of the DWH schema. I need to reclaim space on the mountpoint.
    I have used ALTER TABLE <> MOVE COMPRESS; command to compress these tables.
    Now in dba_segments it is showing the improvement. 200g table came down to 60G. However I am not able to see any change in datafile and in mountpoint, I beleive due to the HWM.
    I tried shrink for the tables, it did not help.
    Could you please suggest any other approach.

  • Flash Builder 4 List controls trimming spaces from XML node values

    I'm trying to migrate my Flex 3 application to Flash builder 4.  One issue that I have is that one of my datasources returns a list of cities and regions.  To get the regions to display in the correct order in Flex 3, a space was added to to their name in the database (ie. "West", "Northwest" are stored in the database as " West" and " Northwest" so that when sorted by the sql query they would appear at the top and gets translated to XML to fill in a list box or combo box in my Flex 3 application.  I have functions that take that selected city or region value from the combo box and queries the database for various performance metrics.  In migrating to Flash Builder 4, I noticed that the spaces in the region names no longer appear in the combo boxes.  When I show the data in a datagrid, the spaces are still there but when populating a combo box or list box, the leading space gets trimmed.  This is an issue since if a user selects the value "West", it doesn't find it in the database since it is listed as " West".  This wasn't an issue in Flex Buider 3.  Is there a work around or parameter that I can set to force the combo box or list box to show the data as-is versus having it trim off the leading spaces for my regions?
    Also, a stupid question, in Flex 3, you were able to find the select value of a combo box by using comboBox.text.  What is the equivalent in Flash Builder 4?  Do I need to do comboBox.selectedItem.Region.toString() now or is there a shortcut to pull the text from the combo box?

    I think you want this:
    private function onLoadPortfolioData(event:ResultEvent):void
        var obj:XMLList = event.result.img as XMLList;
        if (obj.length > 0)
            _imgCollection = new XMLListCollection(obj);
            pictureList.dataProvider = _imgCollection;
    If this post answers your question or helps, please mark it as such. Thanks!

  • Need more HD space for Time Machine

    I'm running out of space on my external drive that I use for TM, can I go in and manually delete old backups to make more room? Would doing this then screw up TM?

    TM should start automatically delete old backups to make room for new ones when it runs out of space. it will warn you about it the first time it needs to do it if you have the appropriate box checked in TM system preferences->options. DO NOT delete old TM backups from finder. you can delete old backups from TM interface but you shouldn't have to do it.

  • Remove spaces from a field

    i have a field in a table that stores the email address; this field is manually populated, so almost anything can be put into it; the field is 100 characters long;
    one one particular record, someone entered:
    "[email protected] [email protected]" into the email address; yes, that is the email address, some spaces and then the email address again;
    i have a select statement that gets the first 50 characters of the email address -- "select substr(email_addr,1,50) from employee;"
    so what i'm getting is "[email protected] johnathan.washingto", when all i want is "[email protected]";
    So what function or trick can i use to get all characters in the email address up to but not including the first space? I thought translate or decode could do it, but i haven't figured it out yet.

    This forum is for using the "SQL Developer" tool rather than general SQL questions (which is what the "SQL and PL/SQL" forum is for). However, to get what you want, try:
    select decode(instr(email_addr, ' '), 0, email_addr, substr(email_addr, 1, instr(email_addr, ' ') - 1)) from employee;
    This should work for both where there is a space and where there isn't a space.

  • Freeing up space from time machine backup folder

    can i just throw away some of the middle folders in time machines backup folder to free up some space? Each of those folders says its holding multiple gigs of data, which they are obviously not.
    Throwing one of them away won't incite time machine to discard the originals, will it?

    That could result in a veritable disaster. You stand the chance of corrupting the entire TM database, rendering it useless. Never do anything directly in any of the TM folders or backups. Always use TM itself.
    The proper way to remove TM backups is with TM.
    Select an item and click the gear in the Finder. You have many choices including deleting all instances of a file or folder.
    When TM determines that it needs more room, it properly deletes old files and folders, without any user intervention. It "knows" how to do this.
    If you need more room on the HD for other purposes, I suggest using SuperDuper to clone your TM backup onto a larger drive.

  • Computer Crashed?  I need advise on transfering from Time Machine.

    Hello. My computer crashed (I think the guy said the motherboard is fryed). I have Leopard and an external drive. I am going to buy another IMAC because I love it. Will I be able to restore my entire old data (iphoto, itunes, quicken, etc.) using Time Machine? The computer guy said my hard drive is fine he wants to transfer my files once my new computer comes in because Time Machine may not be enough. WILL TIME MACHINE TRANSFER ALL MY OLD DATA? Thanks!

    Welcome to Discussions!
    If all your files were backed up, TM will be able to restore them.
    However, to keep using the old backups when you get a new computer, the new computer's name will have to be the same as the old computer's name, and you will have to follow the steps in this article.
    Good luck!

  • Restored my iMac from Time Machine now Hard Drive has doubled! Need Space!

    I Restored my new (refurbished) iMac 2010 (Snow Leopard 10.6.4) from Time Machine now the Hard Drive has doubled 450GB to 900GB. I want to recover the space on my hard drive, What do I do?
    Side Note: My previous iMac (2007) died so I went and bought a refurbished model here. My old iMac had 10.6.8 installed versus my "new" iMac has 10.6.4 installed. I can't restore from my Time Machine since it was from another model.

    Since it's a new (refurb), boot with the install disc, wipe the HD, and reinstall the OS. On first boot, don't migrate, but create an admin account using the same username/password combo as on the TM backup. When finished, run Software Update, and bring it up to 10.6.8. Then, mount the TM HD and try restoring. Life would be so much easier if you had a bootable backup/clone. Instantly able to migrate.
    For more on TM, see Pondini's TM FAQs.
