Need two forks to the Playbook OS
I sure wish there were two forks to the Playbook OS. One with the Android player and one without. I'm tired of getting tricked into downloading an Android app from App World. I want my Playbook without this feature or at least a way to prevent Android apps from loading.

RIM needs to look at the Playbook registration process and followon support
First, this post is NOT about the pros/cons of the Playbook.
Second, it is NOT about the quality of support I received, which was very good.
It's about the Playbook registration and the need for support during or right after that initial registration, as I experienced yesterday. It's a it of a story, but necessary to understand what I went through.
I have a PB-32 I setup last December, and did not need help during the registration. That PB was to goto my wife as I also have an HP Touchpad. Then the 64gb PB went on sale and it was too good to pass up. The 64 was going to my wife and I would get the 32 after setup and transfer of her stuff, some of that process is the subject of other posts.
During the IPL of the 64 where it asked for Country, I ran into communications problems and RIM's page would not load. Others had the same problem, so I believe the site went down for a short while, as it came back an hour later. When that cleared, it asked for the usual info, specifically my Email address. So, since I wanted to put her 64 on her account, and later CHANGE the 32's email to mine, I re-registered her as a new account.
Couldn't do it. Duplicate account exists. So I called general customer support too find out how to change the email registration for the 32 from the wife's to me, so I could register the 64 to her. The automated help line wanted the serial # before anything else. But the s/n on the 64 beside the USB/HDMI ports is unreadable small, and it wasn't up to see it on screen. So, in desperation, I keyed in the 32 s/n. That worked.
Now she could help, but not!
News Flash. YOU CANNOT CHANGE YOUR INITIAL REGISTRATION INFORMATION. Anytime ever, for any reason.
The only way to re-register the PB is to first do a security wipe and start over. Yeah, right. The thing is, the old registration remains in the system, and will not allow you to register another PB as a new registration using the same Email account.
The second dumbest thing I ever heard. If you sell your PB after a wipe, you will not be able to register a new PB with your same email account. If you change ISP and get a new email account, you can't change your PB registration to it either. I ended up registering the 64 to me, and leaving the 32 registered to the wife, not quite right, but acceptable.
IPL of the 64 took over 2 hours!!!!
Next, the 64 kept dropping the WIFI every minute or so for 2 - 3 minutes. The 32 and Touchpad sitting beside it kept motoring on. The WIFI signal strength on the 64 was low, about -87 to -93db, the 32 was about 5 to 10db better, so maybe there's a hardware problem. So I called support again, but this time the 90 day support line. This time I had the 64's s/n so I entered it in prior to getting a human contact. First thing asked for.... the serial number. So why key it in in the first place? Then my name. OK, but he could not find my registration info.
Well maybe it takes over an hour for RIM to post the data, but no, the INITIAL REGISTRATION DOES NOT TRANSFER TO THE 90 DAY SUPPORT DATABASE. Ya gotta register for it separately. Third dumbest thing.
Sensing a bit of desperation in my voice, he offered to register me over the phone, otherwise I got to do it online.
So we continued... next question "What city do you live in?" Toronto, Ontario.
"What country is that in?" Keep in mind RIM is a Canadian company in Kitchener Ontario, about a 2 hour drive from Toronto. My question to him was "What country are you in?" The reply.... "Central America." Yes he had a bit of accent but that's not unusual in this country. You would think that part of the RIM support staff orientation training would include a bit of Canadian and world geography.
Finally the registration is done, but not quite. The system will send me a confirmation email, to which I need to respond before we can continue. Five minutes later, the email is there, and I respond. First thing the confirmation page asks for.... My email address. OK back to the support guy.
Can't find my registration. We waited about 10 minutes and finally, he asked, "what is the problem?" No, my reg did not come up on his screen. I explain the dropout problem, but at that time it was up and running. The fix was to delete all my WIFI profiles (just the 1 here) and reset the PB. Then connect and save the WIFI profile. That did seem to help, as the 64 stayed connected for over an hour before it dropped out for a minute. I'm going to get a new and better WIFI router. I was on the phone for an hour and 10 minutes this time, of which, only 15 minutes was problem definition and solution.
I'm not going to pontificate what RIM needs to do to, but it needs to do something about a user changing his registration data after the fact and needing only the initial registration data to qualify for the 90 days support. And it needs to transfer that registration to the support line real fast, as the IPL and immediate setup are potentially the most problematic.
Oh, and make the serial number large enough to be seen by a 67 yo with glasses.

We NEED L2TP support on the Playbook VPN client!
The Playbook will never be useful for our company if it doesn't support a VPN client that uses "Layer Two Tunneling Protocol(L2TP)".
We use a standard Microsoft VPN server, configured with "MS-CHAP V2", but we like to use L2TP because it is more secure than PPTP.
When will RIM support this on the Playbook?
I love it when things don't work the way they are supposed to, because then I get to fix them.I would add a request for L2TP over IPSec. Our institution has over 25000 users and VPN access is important. Android 3.x supports it. Would expect the same from OS v2.0.

How can I have two fields with the same name if it makes sense?

I have a pretty hard time figuring out how I can have two text fields with the same binding name.
The whole problem is that when I need two fields with the same binding name they are still differnent coz they have the same name but differnt indices.
I should make a form filled at runtime by merging a pdf form file and an fdf file data file. And I have no choice to do it differently. And my form file needs some data like customerName, companyName twice in one form. But there's only one possible buinding name indexed zero.
How can I create a field with absolutely the same name or is it just impossible due to possible name conflicts? And is there a workaround to this problem? I just need one piece of data repeated in different places.

One pdf should be mergred with an fdf with as the result of their merge a new filled and flattened form. I have no control over fdfs their are generated by Oracle and I can not fill the form using XML files coz this process should be integrated in a working application.I just thought about a really ugly workaround with a server-side script adding values to fdf files but it's a bit of work and tests and personally i think it's a bad idea :-(

The Playbook great hardware and os made useless by RIM
This is me ranting as I spent £400 on a blackberry playbook great hardware and os is impressive but you cannot do much on it becasue:
To this day the Native SDK is not available.
RIM them seleves have mentioned that they need more apps for the playbook and when IM+ requested approval of their app they are still waiting now close to 3 months.
EA Games are laughing at you, they have developed many games for apple and only three for playbook.
You guys at RIM should be sacked and get people that can do their jobs.
And why are you not clear if the Playbook has GPS, yes or no simple answer.
I used to be a huge Blackberry fan, but I think that they are going down. I cannot recommend this product to anyone which makes me feel like a fool for buying it myselve.

Trying to connect a blackberry playbook to the Mac. It says I need OS6. Is that a free update or do I have to buy a whole new operating system? Just want to download some music to the playbook. Also, is it possible to use a iTunes card directly to the playbook and bypass the Mac? Thanks for any info you can provide.
The Snow Leopard 10.6 DVD should still be available from Apple for $20. You will have to call Apple Customer Care 1-800-692-7753 or 1-800-676-2775 to purchase it. It may still be in the Legacy Products list. The App Store which is required to download 10.7 or 10.8 is part of the 10.6.6 update.
If they no longer have any in stock you will have to buy it from eBay or Apple resellers that still have stock. But you will have to pay a premium since the DVDs are no longer being made. Snow Leopard DVDs are already up to $100 on Amazon.

I have bought my husband a new I pad and we both need to use our own on a shared computer. Will the two different Apple IDs show as separate on the i tunes program or do I need two different i tune programs?

On Pages, let's say you have two similar documents. Two versions of the same document, but not merged in Cloud and saved as two separate files. B ut you need to compare the two to see the differences, some things on one, but not in the other. In Word, they would merge the two and differences would be highlighted in red. Is there a way to do something like that?
Not actually in Pages, but there is third party software that purports to do this, google around.

The USB ports on my 30" Cinema HD display appear to not work. The monitor has not been used for almost a year, when I upgraded to a new Mac Book Pro and the 27" retina display. Now I need to move the computer back and forth between two locations using the two displays. The need for operating USB ports is essential. Any ideas. The display appears entirely normal. Am running OS X 10.9.

I have Adobe Photoshop CS5 installed in two computers. The hard drive of my home computer crashed and I had no time to deactivate the software. The hard drive needed to be formatted. How can I activate the software CS5 again ? Thank you for an answer.
If it's the same computer, same CPU and same HD, no de-activation or re-activation should be necessary.
Install from scratch and apply all updates manually.
Please do a forum search. I and others have repeatedly answered the question about failed updates of CS5 a whole bunch of times recently.
Bottom line: the Adobe auto updater is utterly useless in CS5 and prior versions. You need to download the updates and apply them manually yourself.
I and others have even supplied the links for Mac and Win, which you haven't even bothered to specify. -
Can I set up my Mac mini to transfer its contents to a new Mac Pro and then disconnect my Cinema Display and use it connected to the Pro to complete the transfer? Do I actually need two displays to manage the transfer?
It helps have 2 monitors, so that you can monitor data XFER, just my experience. If nothing else it allows you keep am eye on what is going on.

Using the content aware move tool, I want to move an item from one image to another image but it does not seem to work. I think I need two layers on one document so how do I do this

A simple Paste does not work for you?
It should place the clipboard content as a new Layer which you can then move around.
If there is any chance that the elements need to be scaled, rotated etc. I would prefer to place them as Smart Objects (File > Place …) and do the masking that is specific to the images themselves in those.

PLD: two type of currencies need different decimals in the same place

I have a problem with decimals in PLD.
First, I tried currencies set up as "Without Decimal" but only works on System Variable areas. I'm not happy about this result.
One currrency such as $, need two decimal places; however,
the other currency such as YEN, no need any decimal place
Example:
Concat (f_111,' ',f_222) in this field
Document Currency f_111
Document Total f_222
I tried Round(F_222,0) and but both of them show 0 decimal even using link to and formulas -such as
f_111 != 'YEN'
f_111=='YEN'

Please try the solution as following steps:
1. In "Administration > System Initialization > General Settings > Display", set Decimal Places as 0 in Amounts.
2. For currency YEN, set Decimals is Default
For currency $, set Decimals is 2 Digits
Then when you create the document the amount YEN will have not decimal and $ will have 2 decimals.
