Needs verses wants

Howdy. I will purchase a new iMac within the next few months and have a two part question please.
I find myself "*******" after a Core i7, 16 Gig memory, faster video card, and a SSD. HOWEVER, I just retired and my usage now is predominately web use, email, occasional/infrequent spreadsheets and documents (word processing), downloading media (TV series, movies, etc.), and photo work with iPhoto. The photo editing could get more use/intense ... maybe. No more database work and I've never done the "game thing" and do not expect that to change. I will use the 27" iMac for movies and video viewing. I do hope to move my DVD collection to iTunes and perhaps some editing (removing commercials) from recorded TV? I strongly suspect that the top of the line iMac is overkill for my needs and in fact, for my uses, would offer no advantages ... take as a question please.
I would appreciate advice/thoughts/recommendations on the following, in a 27" iMac:
1) Processor? I want, and can pay for a "fast" machine but do not want to pay for more than I will see a benefits out of (poorly stated no doubt).
2) Memory? I will order the base 4Gig (2 x 2 Gig). I will use Crucial to add (open to other thoughts). Where is the point of diminishing return for my use?
3) Graphics? I am completely ignorant about these.
4) Hard Drive? I do "value" quick startup, response, and shutdown. Will a SSD give me a noticeably faster/quicker computer. I've read a few discussions on this and opinions (many or most not referencing data) seems to be all over the place.
As an addendum; Most speculation by the pundits seems to indicate a refresh of the iMac in late spring to early summer. Assuming my MBP doesn't depart before then I can easily wait .... ok, fairly easily wait <g>. Anything in the predicted new features that would "particularly affect me." As an example, I would wait for a Bluray super drive but with P<.05 I'm not holding my breath. Other thoughts?

There have been quite a few posts reporting problems maxing out the 2010's with 16 GB RAM if the added RAM is not OEM (which appears to be Samsung); as a precaution, I've added 8 for a total of 12 GB and so far, have found that this may be enough for my needs. If you want to go with 16 GB, stick with Apple installed or purchase Samsung. I purchase all my RAM from OWC (macsales.com) - their OWC brand, not the cheaper NuRam brand. Both OWC and Crucial offer lifetime warranties and are reputable vendors. I do a fair share of movie and graphics editing, but I don't mind waiting a tad longer for the rendering. Of course, the i7 would be ideal, but I'm quite content with my i3 and it was quite a bit less expensive.

Two thoughts here: per the ToU's, we are not allowed to speculate, so we don't know any more than you do... However, as for Blu-Ray, Sony holds the license and unless they agree to extend a license to Apple, there will be no Blu-Ray. Anything more on that would also be speculation.

I use Aperture, Photoshop Elements 6, Graphic Converter, and a couple of others and have absolutely no problem with my i3. If you intend to run the expensive Adobe apps (CS, etc), I've read that you need the most power you can get.
Edit: My Mac starts up in about 20 - 40 seconds without an SSD.

When formatting your column to date/time, pick Date & time, and then pick the letter i in the circle to the right. Then scroll down and pick "No time"

To create an Apple ID without a credit or debit card, there is a specific series of steps that have to be processed in order to allow the payment to be set as none on creation of the account.

If the specific steps have not been processed, a credit or debit card will be required to complete the setup of the account.
However, it can be removed and payment method changed to none as long as there is not an outstanding balance. At this point an iTunes gift card can be used as form of payment.

I am a jewelry designer - have been for over 25 years (pencil to paper) and want expand my knowledge and learn Illustrator and Photoshop. I want to come out of the dark ages regarding HOW I design to become more efficient AND hopefully increase my marketability. I need a new computer so figured now was a perfect time to ask the experts in this field as to what system would be a good into place to start. Laptop preferred so I can learn wherever I am. I figure by the time I am doing well, it may be time to upgrade. Cost is a factor but I realize I am going to need to invest a little more on the front end to get the proper equipment.
While I am here, where is a good place to start regarding which illustrator to go with.

I am a designer for a larger Mfg company - not just someone who tinkers in her own studio (although that part is the best). Hand drawings can be scanned in and traced. It is a way to get a more accurate diamond weight and estimated metal weight to determine whether it is what is wanted BEFORE it is given to our CAD team. All of which are imperative to fit within certain price point targets. Details (scroll thickness, wall thickness, prong details, etc) are made much more clear for the CAD operator who may or may not have any design background. It will also allow me to start with one element and take that element to make a pendant. Then copy that exact element to lay out earrings (maybe flip for a left and right). Then copy further to lay our a bracelet....whatever it may be. Any tweaking that I want to do can be more automatic then re-drawing everything in order to compare. .
In addition, computers (illustration, Photoshop and certainly CAD - typically Rhino/Matrix in the US) are mainstream - unlike when I started. Not as many people hand draw so I am lucky in that regard. Certainly not as many people carve and cast wax as they once did to make a model. The CAD is loaded into a 3D printer, cast and voila - a master model.
I may or may not want to move to higher caliber companies as I continue to develop my career. Many of the larger companies I casually have my eye on ALL require Illustrator/Photoshop of their designer. Some actually say that CAD is encouraged but not necessary. Seems backwards to me but.....what do I know//
That's basically it in a nutshell. The schooling I am not really concerned about. I am looking for guidance on a suitable system that I will need at home (because I need a new computer anyway) that would allow me to have what I need eventually loading these systems on and learning what I hope to learn.

-i plan on buying the lenovo a720, but a720 is generally being sold with windows 7. so when we upgrade to windows 8, are there any compatibility, bugs or drivers issues that occur? i mean to ask is that does it run perfectly with windows 8 or not? im asking because it was released before windows 8 and i have read many pre-windows 8 computers not being fully windows 8 compatible and having driver issues etc....
-secondly when i buy it, i will have to take it to Pakistan on plane. so i was wondering if is it is possible for someone to kindly tell me the exact dimensions (length, width, height) and weight of the box in which the A720 comes in? because il have to carry it in my luggage so i want to know the exact size to be sure that whether il be able to carry that large box or not.
i have tried contacting lenovo but to no avail. i sent emails but didnt get a reply. can someone plz help?

I bought a720 at the beginning of October and installed Windows 8 on a separate partition (now I have Windows 7 on C: and Windows 8 on D: ). Windows 7 works perfectly on this machine. Windows 8 has multiple issues with device drivers. I downloaded and installed the latest drivers from Lenovo's web site. Still there are many issue (OSD, TV Tuner, touch interface seems to be limited, and so on). I'm working mostly in Windows 8 however and I like it very much. So these issues aren't showstoppers. Also, it is very probable that the device drivers will be updated soon.
The box dimensions are the following: 770 x 520 x 195 (in millimeters). The gross weight is about 15 kg.
If you don't need to buy something immediately I would rather recommend to wait for the a520 machine (not b520 !). According to its specification, the a520 machine will have better display matrix (IPS) in comparison with a720. It's display size is lesser however. One big advantange of a520 is that it will be shipped with the preinstalled Windows 8.

I want to make 4x6 study notecard/flashcards, how do I change the page size to fit the cards I need, I want them to print on a standard size paper, but keep the text in a 4x6 margin, new to mac please help!!

The Idea is to set my paper size and page layout to a pre-screened 4x6 layout, which I can add and insert txt/pictures, when I need to print, I should be able to fit 2 per page, if not that's okay, but when I print them I will cut off the excess paper and glue the rest to a notecard, any ideas, NEW TO MAC PAgES

Menu > File > New from Template Chooser > Sidebar > Page Layout > Blank > Blank Canvas
If you need to have two cards on one page then just set up one using text boxes and images to the 4 x 6 (inches?), group them and option shift drag a second copy down the page so you then have 2 and alter the copy as you need.
Change the text and images to placeholders, capture those as a Layout and then save that as a template.

New to Mac - Need help - Want to share Printer and Internet with PC

Looking for help in setting up to share my Windows Compaq PC printer and files and internet with my MAC Mini. They sit right next to each other, my PC does not have wireless ability. What equipment and what steps do I need to take to make this happen? I am looking for the cheapest way possible.

To share the internet you are going to need the means the connect both the Mac and PC to your internet connection. A router would be the simplest - connect your broadband modem to the router and the computers to the router. Routers are quite inexpensive these days and it is also needed to share a printer with both computers.
This leads us to the printer. Before you think about sharing the printer with the Mac you'll first need to determine the printer has drivers for OS X. If not, there's no easy way to seamlessly print from the Mac to your printer. Note I say seamless. Since all Mac applications can print a PDF file you can print the PDF, transfer the file to your PC, and then print the PDF in Windows.

It is really the <wsse: Security> node that I need to inject in the header. What I tried to do was hack the generated stub classes by trying to add header with the wsse node but it is not working. I also think that best practices means that the generated files should not really be touched in theory.
The other thing to do I think is to create a SoapEnvelope with a Header and Body. In the Header I would add the wsse node with userToken. If this is the case, it is still challenging because I have not found any working code that does this so far.
At this point, I am not sure what to do, can anyone help me solve this or guide me in the right direction?? Are there any code samples out there?
I know you can download Apache WSS4J but even that is not clear on how to implement.

How do I delet apps I don't need or want?

In my haste to get started I downloaded apps just because they were free. Now that I've had time to adjust I have bunches of apps that I never use or have downloaded better apps to address the same needs how do I ferris of the unnecessary apps?

I have requirement . I have one View . In this view some step from drop down box. Now on click of this value selected in drop down I want set visiblity or in visibility of Some Transperant container true or false .
Currently , this job I have done in WDDO_INIT of View2 .In that I have filled context node of visibility flag . But problem occurs is though I go back previous view and change value in drop box this time it shows me those Transperant container visible those were there for previous drop down selected.
Which is such method that is called evry time view is called not freshly loaded .

wddo_init is called only the first time for each screen.
You can write the code for visibilty change either in onselection event of the drop down or the inboud plug of the 2nd view...
Also make sure that when you are going back to the dropdown you have restored the original visibility of transparent container.This will ensure that your previously selected visibility options do not appear when you do a selection from drop down next time

[KNOWLEDGE NEEDED] I want to know in what AutoSubmit is asynchronous

I'm asking a kind of question that is to me a reel enigma.
To my definition, asynchronous is invisible to the end-user using his internet browser. But when an input component has autoSubmit set to true, after navigating out of it, the page is submitted, to prove it the pointer like change to the wait one. I'm confused with something called cross site scripting ?
The main point to prove autoSubmit isn't asynchonous and refresh the entire page, like any classic html form submit, put you on a SLOW computer. Have two input component with boths autoSubmit. F. ex. two input text. The test case is :
- enter a value in the first
- hit tab to go the second input -> PPR, autosubmit is triggered
- quickly, enter a value in the second input and hit tab another time
- PPR, autosubmit triggered by the first component ends -> the changed value in the second input is reset to the initial value
So if you've been following me, it's nothing asynchronous but more synchronous. Right ?
Please, I really need help on this one. I bet my shirt it's clear for a lot of people, so take a minute to make me level up :D

This is interesting. I was confused because I mostly use autoSubmit combined with PPR on input element, but in the context of an editable af:table, with around 10 lines, 10 columns, inputTexts and selectOneChoice. In my case, selects are dependant over input, so I autoSubmit the inputs, and PPR the selects on these inputs ; but the whole table is refreshed, since in ADF, rows aren't not stamped.
It's a real usuability issue to me and m users.
