Nested flash files in Captivate

I have 3 swf animations in my Captivate file. When I run the
published Captivate file in IE, the animations don't always load
properly - particularly if I fast forward or go backward. I've
spent days trying to figure this one out. When I run the swf file
(that Captivate creates during publishing) in the Flash player, it
works perfect. When I run it in Firefox it works perfect. BUT, when
I run it in IE 6, the problems occur....and its never consistent.
Sometimes they load, sometimes they don't. I'm assuming the problem
is coming from IE 6. Has anyone else experienced this? Is there a
fix for this?
Thank you in advance for any help you can provide.
Bill

Like ive said in this topic, i need to know where Altartifact put his files in his iDisk, too.
Ive tried all that i know, location in the Web folder, site folder, "my website" folder... Link with "../", with .//"... xD
theres is my code, any idea ?
<object classid="clsid:D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000" codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#v ersion=7,0,19,0" width="611" height="511" title="flash_accueil">

Maybe there is an error in this... because ive tried to use it with a FTP server, and the ".swf" animation is "not charged"... and its in the main page files folder !
I cant understand... this code was working with iWeb Enhancer... :/

  • IMPORTING FLASH FILE IN CAPTIVATE

    Hi!
I have an interactive training module created with Flash. It has buttons, videos, and quizzes.
Now, to make it compatible with SCORM. I was advised to use Captivate.
Is it possible to export the whole flash file in Captivate? Please help.
    Thank you very much!

If this was all developed in Flash then the best bet is to use the Pipwerks SCORM wrapper to make your Flash file compatible.
    More info here: http://pipwerks.com/
You may be able to insert your Flash file as an animation into Captivate, but this won't make it SCORM compatible.  You might be able to recode the Flash file as an interactive widget and make it have a Success result when the user passes the module.  Then when you insert it into Captivate you can set the interactive widget to have a score.
More information about coding widgets can be found here:

  • Need help placing Flash file in Captivate...

I have a few short animations I did in Flash that I want to put in Adobe Captivate. They place fine and play fine. But I wanted to know if it is possible to have the last frame of the animation show for the rest of the captivate slide. I'm using Captivate 6 and Flash Pro CS6. Thanks!

That depends mostly on what you did in the Flash file.  You should ideally NOT fade out the animation at the end and it should terminate with a stop(); action inside the Flash file on its last frame.  Have all of the animation on the main timeline in Flash so that it's not buried down inside a symbol, which would just continue to loop.  Then in Captivate, don't use fade out there either.

  • Flash file into captivate playing slow first time

    Hi.
I am very new to flash but have been using Captivate for
awhile now. I am trying to create an animation in flash of a book
flipping pages. I have 9 jpg images of the various stages of the
book flipping. When I import the first image into Flash it asks if
I want to include the entire series of images. I said yes to this
and now I am stuck. When I test the movie in Flash it plays slow
once and then really fast after that.
I saved it and imported it into a captivate project and the
same thing is happening. It plays really slow and choppy. If I
navigate away from the page and then come back to it, it plays
really fast (faster than I'd like but I'd prefer that to slow)
Any help. I searched on the Flash forum and found someone
else with this issue but they never got a response.
Any suggestions would be great. I am sure I am missing a step
here but I just can't figure out what it is.
    Thanks,
    Kim

When you say you play it, in either Captivate or Flash, do
    you mean
locally or that you upload it somewhere and play it back
    through a web
    browser from that website location?
If the former, then I'm not sure. If the latter, sounds like
    the images
are Very Large and it's taking a while for them to download
    in order to
play...but once they're downloaded and 'cached', the file
    plays quickly.
How large are your published SWFs? What format are your
    images? What DPI?

  • The window title bar displays incorrectly after publishing a flash file.  Captivate 4

When I open the .htm file after using the Flash option to publish, the wrong title displays in the title bar at the top of Internet Explorer's window; instead it displays a former file name.  I was told that the window name is determined by the field located here: File> Document Info> Project Name; however, this is not the case on my PC.  My coworker is able to publish it correctly, but I am not.  The first picture below is the IE title bar and the second is where (I think) that title bar pulls from, Project Name.  Please notice that mine differ.  Any suggestions?

I've run into this issue in CP4 as well though I've never been sure why it happens. It looks like you're opening the swf through a browser to so, for want of a solution, the easiest workaround is the edit the html file.
open it in a text editor such as Notepad.
Five or six lines down you'll find the title element which defines the title as it will display in your browser titlebar:  <title>This text is the title that displays in your browser title bar</title>
Just change the text the the title you want and save the html file.
If you go with this solution, I suggest that when you are publishing the project again you deselect the option "Export HTML" in the publish wondow. Otherwise you will have to edit your html file each time you publish.
    Hope this helps.

  • Captivate Files containing flash files fail to play in AIR

    Hello,
I am using RoboHelp 8, and Captivate 4.  And I am running Windows Vista Ultimate.
I am trying to make a fairly complex training system/operator's manual.  We would like the final output to have the uniformity, searchability and structure provided by AIR.  Our method of design involves making interactive swf files in captivate.  Not only do these files have interactive buttons, and pop up windows, they also have silent looping animations and larger flash video sequences that feature full motion and sound.  After the interactive, video-rich document is created in Captivate, it is saved and it's swf is imported onto a page in Robohelp HTML.  And finally the project is exported through Adobe AIR.
Here's the problem: The final air output shows the swf file correctly with the exception of all video.  All of the video files are absent from the final AIR output.
Is this a simple issue of redirecting AIR to look for the files at the correct location?  With captivate, it generated a folder that it populated with all the contained .flv animations.  When I click on the .swf that was generated with those files, the Captivate document plays properly and complete with all video and navigation.
Any Ideas on how to fix this?

    Hello,
I am still struggling with trying to get the videos to play in a swf file after it is exported to Air.  I've tried a few more tests to get to the bottom of this, unfortunately I don't know how to evaluate the results.  Here are some things I've noticed.
Within robohelp, If I click the "View selected Item" button while on the topic containing the swf, the preview pops up and plays all of the embedded videos properly.  However, after closing the preview I get an chain of Internet Explorer Script Errors. It reads:
"An error has occured in the script on this page
    Line:53
    Char:3
    Error:Object required
    Code:0
    URL: file:///C:/Users/dp/Documents/My%20RoboHelp%20Projects/quadrispaceTest/BaggageFolder/PK10 1_2.htm
Do you want to continue running scripts on this page?"
When using the output modules,  the AIR module creates an Air document, but when the SWF is clicked through, the pages with embedded video appear to be missing from the file.
The WebHelp Pro and FlashHelp Pro Modules both output properly.  The videos inside the SWF play completely and properly.
The Microsoft HTM: help output, acts similarly to the Air output.  It generates the help project, but when the topic with the SWF is viewed, the videos laced throughout the SWF fail to appear.
I hope this provides some more insight into my problem, since I am anxious to get beyond this issue.

  • When importing a flash animation into captivate flash will not call external files

Is there a way to import flash into captivate and it still be able to call external files (ie. sound, video xml)? When I import flash into captivate it will not call any external file.

    Hi all
Wow, I was so hoping fellow Adobe Community Expert Paul Dewhurst would pop in on this thread.
Why? Well, Paul sent me a way cool gizmo a while back that hacked the Info button. It used an external file for some of the information! So somehow Paul managed to sort what it took to insert a Flash object into Captivate and have that object extract data from an externally located file.

  • Flash files not playing in Captivate correctly.

I have Flash files that make up a course that play correctly in Flash but are breaking in Captivate once I import into the Publish folder. There is a button that remains active without being clicked and will not close as it is supposed to, creating obvious issues in the course. The button does not have these issues in Flash, only in Captivate.
Has anyone had an issue like this or any thoughts on how to fix it?

Is the SWF published for AS2 or AS3?  Captivate only accepts AS3 nowadays.
The other likely issue is that perhaps you have inadvertently used a symbol name for your button, or some of your AS code functions/variables etc, that happen to be reserved by Captivate for its own use.  These types of conflicts can cause issues.

  • Bringing Flash .swf files into Captivate

    Greetings,
I use Captivate 2.0. I have been trying to bring a Flash .swf
file into Captivate with very little success. The flash file is
clickable (so that users can review case study information as they
complete Try It simulations). When I bring the Flash .swf file into
Captivate, it works. However, correction (or failure messages)
display every time the user clicks the Flash .swf file. Is there
anything that I can do within Captivate to stop this issue?
Ideally, I would like the Flash .swf to run on top of the Captivate
file so that users can view the case study details without having
    to see the failure messages.
Please let me know if you have any questions about this. I
hope it makes sense to you.

Hi Zabcde (or PMW or P?)
Can I just understand (sorry for being thick) your situation.
You're trying to get a flash movie into a captivate session that
the user can work on, see, interact with whilst they're also going
through a Captivate simulation (try it)? Does that mean that slides
are advancing for the simulation whilst you're watching the flash
movie? Or are they watching the Flash movie as a kind of help to
then go and do the Try It session?
If it's the first, then I would suggest calling the Flash swf
and the Captivate swf as seperate instances in flash (using
loadmovienum or something). If it's the second, you should be able
to remove the failure captions from that slide so they don't bug
    you.
Apologies if I've got the wrong end of the stick though
    Cheers

  • Flash Source Files into Captivate 5

    Hello All,
Need some help. I had some files developed by a client whom will remain nameless, and I promise not to mention anything about them because your experience may be better than mine. I have flash source files that won't play nice on this new LMS. I would like to take the source files and import the files into Captivate, so I can use Captivate to publish the course originally derived in Flash. Can someone explain to me how I can make this happen and maintain the functionality that I have in the swf files.
    Chris.

So you have a course developed entirely in Flash and you have the FLA source files and want to import these into Captivate? If that is what you mean then unfortunately that is not possible.
Although Flash and Captivate are "similar" you cannot import a whole FLA file into the Captivate authoring environment like that. You can import animations, widgets and relatively complex Flash stuff into Captivate by inserting this as an animation into a Captivate slide but not a complete course.
If you want to use Captivate for your course then unfortunately you will need to create the course in Captivate from the start.

  • Simple ActionScript in Flash file breaks in Captivate

This is sooooo frustrating! Can anyone help!? :p
I've got a little flash file that has a text box in which I
use a bit of ActionScript to put the current date into.
When I preview the SWF in flash, or publish the SWF, etc. it
    works fine!
Then I go to my Captivate project and import the SWF file
    with INSERT => ANIMATION.
It looks like it's working, I place it where I want on the
slide and I actually can see the date has been displayed (as per
the preview on the captivate slide)
But when I publish the Captivate file or preview the project,
the date is nowhere to be seen! SO ANNOYING!.
This is the code on my flash file behind the date display
text box (added line numbers for convenience):
    1. quizcompletedate=new date();
    2. month = new Array("January", "February", "March", "April",
"May", "June", "July", "August", "September", "October",
    "November", "December");
    3. quizcompletedate=(month[quizcompletedate.getMonth()]+"
    "+quizcompletedate.getDate()+", "+quizcompletedate.getFullYear());
All works fine in flash, just not when it's inserted into a
    captivate slide.
    PLEASE HELP?!?!
    G.

wow! OK, I actually didn't think that would make much of a
difference! but I'm a step closer...
now the textbox is appearing at least! Thanks Paul_D, but now
    a new problem...
When I preview the captivate project now, the text box says:
"undefined undefined, undefined undefined:undefined" - but
remember, it is working in Flash, and it even works in Captivate
when I'm in design view (while I'm working on the slides) it just
doesn't wok in the final product.. any more suggestions???

  • Synching Issues with Self-Paced Learning and Embedded Flash Files

    Hi Everyone,
I'm having some issues with my files not properly synching or displaying when Self-Paced Learning is active.
    Here is my set-up:
    Captivate 5
5 separate Captivate files combined using the Aggregator
Each Captivate file is about 15 slides
Each slide contains an audio file (for closed-captioning) and a single SWF file - the content is all created with Flash and then inserted into Captivate using Insert > Animation
Each SWF file is back 1/10 of a second from the beginning of the Cap timeline (otherwise there are rewind issues when the user selects the slide they are currently viewing from the ToC)
Each embedded SWF has the beginning and ending fade built into it; Captivate is not doing any fading
Synch to Project is selected for each embedded SWF (although it doesn't seem to work all the time)
Self-Paced Learning is active, as well as, Enable Navigation
It is not being loaded to an LMS or using any built-in Captivate quiz features.  These are instead custom built AS3 Flash files that are embedded.
    Windows 7, 4GB RAM, 1GB Video Card, High-end Processor, etc... a beast.
    The Issue:
When the user opens the course, views it for a while and then closes it and returns it will display the first slide of the course for a moment before jumping to the bookmarked slide.  This slight timing misstep causes the bookmarked slide to get out of synch.  It will sometimes not display the bookmarked slide at all or it will cut-off a small bit from the end of the slide (even with Synch to Project active).  It sometimes works fine but randomly will break.  The course is set to 100% preload and nothing is being loaded from an external location.  It seems to work fine until Self-Paced Learning is activated.
I don't think this is a common development approach for Captivate but it has been very successful with some clients.  Has anyone encounted similar issues or does anyone have some suggestions that might resolve this problem?
    Thanks!
    Greg

It's been mentioned many times on this forum that nesting Captivate SWFs inside other Captivate SWFs gives rise to all kinds of strange issues.  Captivate was not designed to work this way. If you choose to do it, and you encounter issues (as you have done) there's usually NOT a lot you can do.  There are just too many ways the SWFs can get into bun fights over which one does what.
I suggest you rethink your approach to avoid nesting.

  • Can't Open Adobe Captivate 4 File in Captivate 5.5

    Hi,
Anything special I should try or be aware of?
Whenever I try to open my 2008 Captivate 4 files in Captivate 5.5, I get the familiar can't-do-that-for-some-reason error message. (The one that suggests the file is already opened, or it was unzipped badly, not enough memory, and so forth.) Since Captivate 5.5 removes the import feature, I can't try that.
So far, I've tried running it with nothing else open on my computer (I have 10 GB of RAM), made sure to empty the cache first, and so forth.
In desperation, I'm also redownloading 4 now and giving that a try, but any other suggestions would be great.

Notes for future searchers... here is how I solved this problem.
Short Answer: Open the file in 4, resave it, and it opened in 5.5.
    Long Answer:
I downloaded Adobe Captivate 4. Fortunately, I had my license active and registered here on the Adobe site. Installation of Adobe Captivate 4 on Windows 7 was a bit weird... it asked me to reinstall Flash which I already had installed, it insisted that Adobe Captivate was currently open, and so forth. I let it reinstall Flash and I rebooted, and 4 was good to go. I made sure to install Captivate 4 in a custom location, not wanting to overwrite any resources or other things in the Adobe folder for 5.5. Then I opened the old file. It actually performed some kind of update thing when I did this, which leads me to believe that I was formerly working with a less-than-latest version of 4 or maybe even 3! Once it completed, I saved it as a new Adobe Captivate 4 file. Then I was able to open THAT file with Adobe Captivate 5.5, and save a new file again.
For some reason, fonts didn't carry over. So I reset them in all my captions, and then recompiled successfully.

How to setup the access privilege of flash file in Web Intelligence?   WEBI can set access privilege for single WEBI report file, but it seem cano not set access privilege for one flash file.

    Thank you Maksim,
I did set the "selectionMode" to "Auto". I don't understand where In supply function I have to set lead selection of nested node to first element. Please elaborate on this. Are you talking about the context attribute bound to the second table? OR do I have to change the Importing parameters "Node" and "Parent_Element" of my supply function?

  • Flash files not working in Cap 5.5 upgraded from Cap 3 or 4 and Flash 8

We just upgraded some projects from Captivate 3 and Captivate 4 to Captivate 5.5 and now some of the .swf files we have on certain slides do not play. They play in Flash itself and they play in Captivate when I use F3 for that slide, but when I create a .exe or do a Preview, they don't play. (and I have these on my local drive) I re-imported one and it worked but an older one I re-imported still doesn't work. Is it because it might have been created in an older version of Flash? I tried setting the Flash version in Captivate to 9 and 10 and nothing seemed to fix it. I think I have Flash 11 loaded. Should I unload it and go back to Flash 9 or 10? Or do we have to recreate those files in Flash 9, 10, or 11? it seems like I had this problem a long time ago in Cap 3 and we had to set everything to Flash 8.

oK, I think you are right... some of the files work and some do not... UGH and when I reimported, they said they were AS2... so far I'm not a fan of 5.5 but I'm sure it will grow on me... just don't like that things don't convert and I can't find some of the easiest things... they hid the X and Y coordinates when they used to be at the top of the screen... now they are under Transform? ok, I'll stop griping... for now...
