  • Why do I need to restart Apache and Tomcat every time a java file is change

    If a java file is changed and complied the changes are not reflected if Tomcat is not restarted.
    The settings in server.xml are as:
    <!-- Tomcat Manager Context -->
    <Context path="/manager" docBase="manager" debug="0" privileged="true"/>
         <Context path="/cf" docBase="cf" debug="0" reloadable="false"/>
    Here "cf" is my Application folder under webapps. The reloadable property when set to "true" for standalone Tomcat on Windows98 reflects the changes for compiled java files without restarting Tomcat. But on Linux 7.1 with Apache 1.3.19 and Tomcat 4.0.3 this is not working.
    Also tried out with Manager Application of tomcat-users.xml with reloadable="false" as well as reloadable="true",
    But when I reload the application using the command
    http://servername:8080/manager/reload?path=/appli.name
    It tells me that the application is reloaded but changes in the java file are still not reflected.
    Also when reloaded through Manager Servlet, Only my load-on-startup servlet is reloaded, but other java classes are not.
    Is it neccessary to execute this reload command from the server itself. I m executing it from a remote m/c. and have mapped the application with a domain name virtually.
    Is it the case with Tomcat on Linux with Apache. Or is something going wrong on my part.
    Can someone Help out plz.

    Rupali

    or you can "touch" your web.xml file.
    touch web.xmlor that command is for *nix systems, not sure what the Windows command is.  But basically, when you edit the web.xml, even if it means updating the last modified time, it will restart only your application and you should see the changes.

  • How can I build EJB archive after changing java files?

    hello,
    I changed java beans file, and tried to build jar file again, then the "build EJB archive" context menu is disabled so I can not make EJB jar file!
    So frustrated.. NWDS recognizes the changes in the java files , right? How come there 's no Build menu..
    Is there any pre-requisite to enable the menu?
    I have no idea how I can build jar file..
    Please give me a advice.. Thanks~!

    I think that in order to create a RPM, you'd need to
    use some C.Nope - the RPM is all about packaging and the "magic" x.spec file. You can have anything you want in the RPM, but you have to use RPM tools to build the .rpm file. One of the features is that you can also indicate (via "install" scripts) modifications to other files or the filesystem to support the installation of whatever's in the RPM.

  • I got ~M as EOL when I edit a java file in NetBeans

    Hi,
    When I edit a java file in the NetBeans editor, at the end of line, I got ~M (When viewed in a Unix environment) at end of every line. Pls help me get rid of that. It such a long file that I cannot delete it manually.
    Thanks,
    Guhan

    1) joe filename.java
    2) control+K F
    3) type `m (yes, that's a backwards apostrophe. Should be same key as ~)
    4) type R for replace
    5) hit enter to replace with EOL
    6) type R for rest of file.
    7) control +K X to save and exit.
    Any particular reason you can't do this with your global search and replace in netbeans? :P

  • ***How to use Java to change user password in *mdw file?

    Hi,
    Is it possible to use java to change user's password in the MS Access workgroup file(*mdw)? I have been searching for this topic for a long time, but no discoveries yet. Anyone has any idea?
    Sincerely,
    nonameisname

    There is probably a windows API call that does it.
    Once you find it, you wrap it in C code and then use JNI to call it from Java.

  • Changes in java file dont show up on site

    hi
    i'm using tomcat4 server.
    i use java jsp html files for developing the website.any changes to jsp files show up on refreshing the page but when i do changes in java files (which are called from jsp files) compile them and refresh the page the changes dont show up.
    even restarting the server didn't help.
    when i delete the .class file of that java code still the server runs when it is called from jsp file.
    it doesn't give filenotfound or classnotfound error which is expected in such case.
    can anybody plz tell me what to do

    Did you not overlook something, like putting a jar containing (previous versions of ) your classes to "lib" ?

  • How to view the change immediately after a java file is modified without restarting server or redeploy?

              Hi All,
              How to view the change immediately after a java file that is used in jsp is modified
              without restarting server or redeploy?
              Moreover, it is better to keep the original session.
              Any suggestion is appreciated.

              Hi,
              In order to have a new version of a java class, the current classloader must be
              deleted and a new one created. This is what redeployment does. I believe that
              this is more of an issue with Sun's implementation of classloaders. You could
              ask BEA support (719.232.7878) and see if they have any plans to periodically
              check jar files to see if java class file timestamps and destroy and re-create
              classloaders on the fly.
              1) You will still have to accept the performance hit of destroying classloaders
              and creating new ones. There isn't any way around that.
              2) I would think you would want to have more explicit control in production and
              integration anyway.
              You can redeploy applications from the command line (script) file not just the
              console.
              Hope this helps,
              pat

  • CompilerCache update on change in Non Java file

    I have a Java project which has .java files and a .mapping file. (.mapping file
    is needed for JDO implementation). When I change any .java file and rebuild the
    project, compilerCache (.workshop\.ide) gets updated. When I change only .mapping
    file and rebuild the project, compiler cache does not get updated. Is there
    configuration file/settings where I could add more file types whose modification
    will result in compilerCache update?
    Thx

    Hi Vikas,
    I guess your form contains two blocks, based on tables from a database. (So your remark "Non-database" is incorrect).
    Then, do you need two separate buttons for 'Save' and for 'Update'?
    In Forms, there are standard buttons in the Forms toolbar to commit the changes to the database.
    Of course it is possible to copy this standard functionality to custom-made buttons, but I think you do not need to do that.
    Kind regards,

  • Regenerate Java-Files if XSD-Files are changed

    Hello,
    I'm interessed in how to regenerate the java files of a topdown web service if changes in the underlying xsd-files are necessary.
    Using "Regenerate Web Service from WSDL" from the context menu only works for changes in the wsdl-file. It ignores changes in the xsd-files.
    Thanks for help.

    You may want to look at the ant-base version to generate the proxy code.
    Usually, I use a different target directory for the code generated (project/gen_src instead of project/src). This way, I can compare different versions over time, or with different settings, and decide to include one specific version by changing the set of src directories I include in my JDeveloper project (or ant compile target).
    The basic looks like this:
    <project name="client" default="all" basedir="." xmlns:o="antlib:oracle">
        <javac destdir="${output.dir}" classpathref="classpath">
          <src path="src"/>
          <src path="gen_src"/>
        </javac>
      <target name="genproxy">
        <delete dir="./gen_src"/>
        < o:genProxy wsdl="http://www.webservicemart.com/phone3t.asmx?WSDL" output="./gen_src"/>
      </target>
    (remove the extra space in the xml above)
    With JDeveloper, you may be running into a corner case scenario, were the java beans are already in the classpath and the tool thinks it can re-use the existing version instead of generating a new one.
    Check the documentation for details:

  • Calling a method from another Java file.

    I think I'm doing this right, but I'm obviously going wrong somewhere.
    In order to not have one big long java file, I've created one main one to execute the program, and another to do some of the functions. I'm using eclipse, btw.
    In the main file, I have
    currentTB = getActiveTB(playerArea);If it works, it should get send the player area variable to the getActiveTB method, and store the value it returns in the currentTB variable, right?
    In the other file, I have;
    package scenes;
    public class sceneIndex {
         private TerrainBlock getActiveTB(String areaCode) {
              TerrainBlock tBlock = new TerrainBlock();
                     **DOES STUFF**
              return tBlock;
    }I have it set up so the second file is in the source folder "resources" and the package "scenes." The problem is I'm not calling it properly. I'm missing something simple, I think. The only error I'm getting is;
    The method getActiveTB(String) is undefined...
    Where am I screwing up?
    EDIT: Yeah, I'm a rookie here trying to figure it out on my own. My computer science courses, so far, conveniently all consist of just one big java file. Easier to write, sure, but not very efficient/organized.

    Yeah, so this is still pissing me off. I'm not sure what else to do. I've tried this a million different ways, in both eclipse and netbeans. Whatever. Here's the code, I'd love it if someone could point out the boneheaded mistake I'm making. I'm getting a little frustrated at being stuck on such a simple problem.

    }Again, I've tried this a few different ways, and I either get a "Could Not Find Symbol" error referring to the getActiveTB(playerArea); in Main, or it just says java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: and Exception in thread "main".
    Whatever.

  • Using java class and variables declared in java file in jsp

            ResultSet rs=null;
            Statement smt=null;
            try{

                con=DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:mysql:///net","root", "anthony111");
                smt=con.createStatement();
               rs= smt.executeQuery("SELECT * FROM emp");
               while(rs.next()){
                String  str = rs.getString("Name");
                }catch( Exception e){
                    String msg="Exception:"+e.getMessage();

    i am using netbeans ide.

    Very bad approach
    1) Think if your table contains more than one NAMEs then you will get only the last one with your code.
    2) Your String is declared as local variable in the method.
    3) You have not created any object of NewClass nor called the method in JSP page. Then who will call the method to run sql?
    4) Your NewClass contains main method which will not work in web application, it's not standalone desktop application so remove main.
    Better create an ArrayList and then call the method of NewClass and then store the data into ArrayList and return the ArrayList.
    It should look like
    {code:java}
    package ris;
    import java.sql.*;
    import java.sql.Connection;
    import java.sql.DriverManager;
    import java.sql.SQLException;
    public class  NewClass{
        public static ArrayList getNames(){
            Connection con = null;
            ResultSet rs=null;
            Statement smt=null;
            ArrayList nameList = new ArrayList();
            try{
                Class.forName("com.mysql.jdbc.Driver").newInstance();
                con=DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:mysql:///net","root", "anthony111");
                smt=con.createStatement();
               rs= smt.executeQuery("SELECT * FROM emp");
               while(rs.next()){
                nameList.add(rs.getString("Name"));
               return nameList;
                }catch( Exception e){
                    String msg="Exception:"+e.getMessage();
                   </code><code class="jive-code jive-java"><font>return nameList;</code><code class="jive-code jive-java">
                }finally {
          try {
            if(con != null)

          } catch(SQLException e) {}
          </code><code>return nameList;</code>

    when i compile the java file in netbeans and then run it, i get an exception but if i compile the same java file using the javac from cmd then run it, everything is perfect without any error.... so i think the problem is from the compiler in my netbeans,
    I want to make the netbeans compiles the java files exactely as javac CMD, and produce the same .class files... how can i do this?
    thank you...

    You should post the error message. Maybe someone can then give you some guidance.

  • How to deal with #ifdef in .java files with javadoc tool?

    My .java file included some '#ifdef' & '#endif' sentence. So when I used javadoc tool to generate the .html files, error happened. Can anyone give me some indication how to resolve the problem, provided that the source code can not be changed because it was written by others. Waiting for your reply and thanks in advance!

    if I pass in encoding parameter when I do javadoc,
    say, -encoding "PROPROC",
    then there is different error
