NetBeans or MyEclipse IDE

Hi,
Which Java IDE is more powerful for developing web applications
Netbeans or MyEclipse ?

IntelliJ beats both of them hands down :)
Netbeans: terribly slow, cumbersome, poor refactoring
support, unintuitive, memory hog.
Eclipse: reasonably fast, more intuitive, good
refactoring support, memory hogIntelliJ: Fair speed, some nifty features, mediocre refactoring support, tres bizarre configuration, that cat be twitchy when dealing with multiple projects at once, damned expensive, very odd swing toolkit. Does a great job with ejbs and web services even though it goes nuclear when trying to run an ant script that has WebLogic tasks defined in it.
All in all not a bad ide. I use eclipse or Netbeans at home and IntelliJ at work.
Bottom line, try them all out and see which one fits what you're doing.
My pic fwiw if I have to pick one is eclipse.
Cheers,

  • "AbsoluteLayout" in Netbeans 4.1  IDE (early access 2)

    Hi !
Netbeans 4.1 IDE generates/updates a output "project JAR" for you with each build.
In the "help" section under "layout managers" it states:
"To distribute an application with the IDE's "AbsoluteLayout" manager, you must include the IDE's AbsoluteLayout classes, as these are not part of the standard Java layout sets. These classes are ready for deployment in :
    " <install-dir/ide4/modules/ext/AbsoluteLayout.jar "
When I run this project JAR from the command prompt , error is:
" no class def for "org/netbeans/lib/awtextra/AbsoluteLayout"
    (app runs fine inside IDE)
I see this file in my build file , but will not run : (
I also see the "absolute.jar" file listed "inside" my "project JAR"
    Current Manifest.mf reads:
    Manifest-Version: 1.0
    Ant-Version: Apache Ant 1.6.2
    Created-By: 1.5.0_01-b08 (Sun Microsystems Inc.)
    Main-Class: AddRFSwitchMain
X-COMMENT: Main-Class will be added automatically by build
...... any help with this please?
    Thanks!

I know this response is a few months late, but it may help somebody. There is a tutorial aimed at beginning users located at the URL below. The tutorial goes through developing a JApplet Form and using AbsoluteLayout. The tutorial walks a user through using NetBeans v4.0 Beta 2 to create a JApplet Form and all the steps necessary to allow the JApplet to be able to be uploaded to a website and work correctly.
If you're having trouble making AbsoluteLayout work, or if you want to know how to make an Applet work from a website, this tutorial is for you.

  • Error while running JSF program in netbeans ide

    Hello guys,
I was working with JSF on Netbeans 6.1 IDE. but was unable to run the application and got the following error :
" javax.servlet.exception:PWC 1244: servlet execution threw an exception"
    "java.lang.NoSuchFieldError:IS_UNIT_TEST_MODE".
However, this error ocurred only with JSF framework projects and not for JSP ones. So, the JSP files are built and run successfully.
Please help me out with this.

says it all really. You're trying to access something that doesn't exist, either explicitly or implicitly.
    Don't do that.

  • Sun ONE Studio vs. NetBeans IDE 3.5

Now that IBM's VisualAge for Java is dead, I have been looking for a replacement IDE. I have been totally frusturated by the lack of basic information on IBM's Websphere -- their own specialists had a hard time answering elementary questions -- and the "upgrade" for VA 4, which cost $100 originally, could be $1000 to $3500 depending on what piece of Websphere you get.
Well, so I looked at Sun ONE Studio 5.0 -- then noticed that SDK 1.4.2 was out (i had the beta). I'm doing the trial period of ONE Studio, then I get NetBeans 3.5 as part of the SDK download. NetBeans is FREE and Sun ONE Studio 5.0 is $695, and "based on NetBeans."
"Based on?" Looking at NetBeans 3.5 IDE, I don't see what Studio offers that you don't get in NetBeans. Is there any paper or comparison anybody has written comparing the two packages?
Both are great pieces of software, but what do I pay $695 for?

you got integration with more wizards, deployment tools and application server for both J2SE & J2EE development.
But it's a real shame and even scandal that this tool becomes commercial and so expensive.
So now, you don't have the choice and you have to pay for the Sun branded tool ! (except the J2ME one)
I had the weakness to believe that Sun and its Java wanted to have a important place in the open source or at least free software world !(clearly, it's the future ). But this aggressive(695$ !!!) commercial U-turn awakes me from my dream.
That's it for now, I return on my beloved Eclipse Platform and its plugins, digusted ...

  • Embed a media player in netbeans IDE

    Hi guys!
I'm pretty new to development in Java, right now I'm using netbeans as the IDE to development a P2P file sharing program for my school project. One of the module is to embed a media player that can playback the media files shared by the program. My group choosed to use VLC. The targeted machine to run is on a Windows XP. If the program can compile and run on Linux, that would be a plus.
Now, having searched the web on how to embed a player, I am utterly confused and lost.. Can anyone suggest some tutorials on how to embed a media player, or even an alternate player that's easily implementable in netbeans?
    JJ

When you click on the play video buttons, the rest of the page turns cloudy and the media player pops out.
Modal window, Highslide, Lightbox, Floatbox, Litebox, Colorbox...  There are about a hundred different versions of the same thing.
Also what movies files can I play??
    Andy,
That depends on your target audience.  If you need to support laptops/desktops and smartphones -- Droid, Berries, iPhone, iPads, etc... may may need to offer visitors more than one flavor to choose from.

  • Need Help With NetBeans (Java Studio Enterprise 8)'s code generation

    Hi!
I am using Java Studio Enterprise 8 with NetBeans 4.1 IDE bundled together with it. When trying to create GUI out from NetBeans Form Designer, I don't like the way it generates the code. When I try to use a JTextField, it uses "Fully Qualifed Class Names" (e.g: javax.swing.JTextField) on the code. How do I set NetBeans not to use it but rather use only the class name and generate import lines on top of the code? Also, how do I set it up that it will generate the variable declarations (which is on the uneditable blue portion of the code) on top rather than the default which is placed at the bottom of the class code body. I have tried tweaking the Options menu of this IDE but haven't got any luck...
Hope you could help, and thanks in advance!

To address the location of the var decl codegen section (or any codegen location issues), there is a workaround, admittedly, it is a bit tedious.
Once the form code is generated, as Kris mentioned, open the class in an external editor so that you can edit the generated code.
Then cut the entire var declaration section along with the begin/end gen-code markers and paste it to the section of the file you desire.
When you add more components to your form, the codegen will find this section wherever it is and add to it.
Alternatively, you could just move the non-protected code around the protected within the NB editor, but you would not be able to rearrange the order of the actual code-genned sections.

  • Images in NetBeans 5.0 Mobility

    Hi all,
I am an experienced programmer but new to Java. I want to learn how to program MIDlet's for mobile phones. I have installed NetBeans 5.0 and the NetBeans Mobility Pack for supporting mobile applications.
I have learned the basics like creating a MIDlet and a canvas. I can draw text to the canvas.
But what I can't do is to load an image and display it on screen. My problem is to include the image to my project. I think I have to use the Image class' createImage() method, but what should be the path of the image?
I also worked with KToolbar. There was a folder named res, where all the resource files where put into. But in the project of NetBeans, there is no res folder.
So I would be pleased, if you can help me with including images to project and displaying them on screen.
    Thanks for help,
    Regards.

Please post only Java language questions in these forums. They do not provide support for NetBeans (or other IDEs), you might try the NetBeans site mailing list.
If the code was not compiled with debugging enabled, then it can't be debugged.

  • Netbeans and setDefaultLookAndFeelDecorated

I have recently started using the Netbeans 5.0 IDE to make my GUI's because its easier than typing it all myself...
The problem I am having is when I create a new JFrame and set it visible it doesn't look like my original windows. i have tried using the setDefaultLookAndFeelDecorated method but to no avail.
Any one know how I can change the look and feel withing netbeans?
    Thanks

because its easier than typing it all myself...apparently its not easier if Netbeans is doing something strange to your GUI.
Any one know how I can change the look and feel withing netbeans? The LAF is not controlled by the IDE, but by Java code. Read the Swing tutorial on [url http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/uiswing/misc/plaf.html]How to Set the LAF.

  • Forum for Netbeans, JavaFX Composer ...

I don't see a dedicated forum for JavaFX/Netbeans users. At the forums.netbeans.org site there is'nt anything dedicated for JavaFX. Here there is'nt anything dedicated for Netbeans.
IMHO a dedicated forum would be valuable. JavaFX seems to be the "future client stack" for Java and Netbeans the principal IDE that supports it.
What do you all think ?.
    /rk

    Hi,
There is no forum at NetBeans forum site dedicated for JavaFX since there is no overwhelming amount of messages with JavaFX topic for requiring separation from the nbusers forum.
We have a mailing list (with a message archive) dedicated specifically to JavaFX:

  • Netbeans 6.5 doesn't detect Sun Java Wireless 2.5.2 for CLDC

I have netbeans 6.5 installed on my system and the Sun Java (TM) Wireless Toolkit 2.5.2 for CLDC is located in the usual folder i.e C:\Program Files\NetBeans 6.5\mobility8\WTK2.5.2
It was working fine for some time but since yesterday it has stopped working suddenly although nothing has been modified in the installation folders
The WTK 2.5.2 is not accessible in netbeans IDE anymore. I have tried to add it from "Java Platform Manager" but netbeans does not seem to work
    The procedure I do is
    One in Netbeans IDE
    1. Open Java Platform Manager
    2. Add Java Platform
    3. Select "Java ME MIDP Platform Emulator"
    4. Click "Next"
nothing happens... just stays at this screen
I tried to uninstalled and reinstalled netbeans 4 times nothing seems to work.
Can any one help me out.

Found the solution.... The Configuration folders for NetBeans were not getting deleted by unInstaller.
This is what you have to do to get it working
    1. Completely un install the NetBeans IDE. (to be on the safe side you can uninstall jdk as well)
    2. Delete all left over registry entries, if any.
    3. Go to your user profile folder. that is C:\Documents and Settings\myusername\
    4. There will be 4/5 folders for NetBeans.. delete all of them. (1 of them is called nbi)
    5. back up the contents of your workspace folder,. and delete it.
    6. Reinstall NetBeans 6.5 IDE.
    7. Now It will detect J2ME..
So the conculsion is the Netbeans uninstaller should delete (or at least provide option) these configuration folders...
