    On client machine
I created the devalias entry for my Nic interface
    did now
    boot net:dhcp

  • JumpStart Network Boot problem

Network boot of Ultra 10 test machine from JS environment on a RedHat FC3 box all works perfectly with a Solaris 9 (0404) kernel and network boot directory structure.
When attempting jumpstart with a Solaris 10 FCS kernel and jumpstart environment, after
    boot net:dhcp - install
I see usual boot device stuff, then the tftp transfer of
    38600
    and then
    Requesting Ethernet address for IP.AD.DR.ES
boot: failed to allocate 8192 bytes from scratch memory
panic - boot: boot: scratch memory overflow
    Program terminated
    ok
All the refs I can find to the scratch memory overflow problem suggest a problem back in the days of a Solaris 8 kernel that a later patch solved anyway.
Firstly, has anyone one else seen similar errors to mine with a Sol10 JS ?
Secondly, has anyone any other ideas as to what's going on here (other than the unlikely chance that I have a Solaris 8 kernel inside my Sol10 JS environment !!)

This is an old thread, but I found it along my searches for the same issue - only one Sun box, and no CD/DVDROM.
I had exactly the same setup - FC3 jumpstart server which worked fine for Sol9, but failed with Sol10. The Sol10 NFSv4 client has difficulties during install talking to the Linux NFS server. One can work out the issues, installing NFSv4 - see http://www.citi.umich.edu/projects/nfsv4/linux/ - and fixing a few other problems - see http://www.tzone.org/~vandry/howto/solaris10-install-from-linux.html - or move to a FreeBSD or NetBSD jumpstart server.
I wrote a little how-to on setting up a FreeBSD jumpstart server for Solaris 10 which can be found at http://www.pbandjelly.org/item/38
I hope this can help out those people trying to find a solution in setting up their Sun with jumpstart.
    Kind Regards,

  • Computer sees network boot, wont let me select any image

I am trying to image a small form factor computer and I can see the network boot. It will boot into the PXE environment, but will go to a blank screen and will not let me get to the point of selecting an image to load. It will sit like that for about a minute
and then will reboot and boot into the Win 7 OS.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

If you don't have an IP it's probably a driver issue.

  • Network Boot (Rescue Mode)

I need to rescue a OL5 VM guest the other day and discovered you can Network boot into rescue mode by using the following arguments in the boot string.
    --args rescue http://server/pathtodistribution
Just thought I would share. You could always just mount the virtual disk on another host but to me... this is simpler and faster.

I've added extended logging to the console, so there are a few more things to show the errors:

  • MacBook won't boot to HDD or detect network boot option

    Hello,
    I have a MacBook 4.1 with a 2.4 Ghz Intel C2D, 2Gb of RAM, 250Gb HDD running with 10.5.3.
My main issue is that whenever I try booting my MacBook to the hard drive the MacBook gets hung up. This happens at the grayish screen with the large apple picture in the middle and the spiny loading thing. This seems to be happening every time.
Also, my MacBook isn't detecting the network boot option when it should be.
I'm able to boot to a CD just fine.
Anyone have any suggestions? I'd like to try and get it going to the hard drive since I have some documents I'd like to get off. I did manage to get it working for a couple of hours. I did that by removing one of the RAM cards and then resetting the PRAM.
    I'd appreciate anyone's help.
    Thanks,
    Smerky

On your desktop, double click "Install Mac OS X". Enter your administrator password and wait for your mac to restart. After that navigate to Utilities-->Disk Utility.

  • Catalyst 3560 routing for network boot

    Hi guys,
I'm a Cisco noob so please forgive me if I'm asking stupid questions :)
I have a Cisco Catalyst 3560 in my lab and it's currently a single VLAN set up with all 48 interfaces in it. The switch receives static IPs from the router and as far as I understand is not doing any routing by itself. I'd like to run my own tftp server available only to the servers on this switch (for network boot).
So what I probably need this switch to run is some kind of an internal network i.e. 10.10.2.0 so I'd be able to reach the servers on this switch both via an external IP xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx and an internal one say 10.10.2.3 during the PXE boot.
So how should it be done and is it possible at all?
I hope I'm making myself clear and you got the idea. Please ask if you don't. :)
    BR,
    Paul

For example, if I start the security wizard and choose a single interface (FastEthernet6 in this case) to block port 25 on I get this config:
    Restricting Applications.
Creating ACL SecWiz_Fa0_6_in_ip based on provided criteria
    Creating VLAN Map SecWiz_Vlan1
    Applying VLAN Map
Applying VLAN Map SecWiz_Vlan1 to Vlan1
and when I click on Show CLI sequence:
    Cisco1(config)# no vlan access-map SecWiz_Vlan1 10
    Cisco1(config)# no ip access-list Extended SecWiz_Fa0_6_in_ip
    Cisco1(config)# ip access-list extended SecWiz_Fa0_6_in_ip
Cisco1(config-ext-nacl)# deny tcp any any eq 25
    Cisco1(config-ext-nacl)# permit ip any any
    Cisco1(config-ext-nacl)# exit
    Cisco1(config)# vlan access-map SecWiz_Vlan1
    Cisco1(config-access-map)# 10 match ip address SecWiz_Fa0_6_in_ip
    Cisco1(config-access-map)# 10 action forward
    Cisco1(config-access-map)# exit
    Cisco1(config)# vlan filter SecWiz_Vlan1 vlan-list 1
after I apply the changes port 25 gets blocked on the entire switch. I believe it will be the same for what I'm trying to do now.

  • Disable network boot screen in KT4V-L

well this is more of an annoyance than a problem . . .
i was booting up a few days ago and on the screen where u can press (BIOS 1.5 and previous) or (BIOS 1.6) to boot from a network . . .
now i decided to venture into this menu and played around with the options and now a new option comes up after the / screen comes on . . .
it now says something like "press to boot from hard disk" . . . now is there a way to disable this message of booting from the hard disk? or the whole network booting option at all?
my pc boots up fine and i haven't experienced any problems but it just takes up a lot more time to boot into windows . . . i've tried every bios setting possible from disabling everything in the boot menu order, to  disabling the network adapter . . . now the only thing that works is by disabling the onboard adapter which i use . . . i've also tried flashing to other bioses in hopes to reset it but it hasn't done anything . . .
does anyone have any suggestions on how to disable this?

oh this is before windows even loads up . . . it's a message from the bios/lan rom itself asking to press to boot from the hard disk or pressing to boot from a network . . . in fact, i get no slowdowns going into windows at all . . .
when u do a cold boot, u get the following screens:
    1. the main post screen where u're ide devices get detected
    2. the screen that i described above comes up where u press and for network booting
    3. the computer configuration info (pci devices, cpu, cache info, etc)
    4. boot record search from the floppy/hd/cdrom
    5. windows boot screen
    it's screen #2 that i'm trying to disable . . .

  • OSD Task Sequence - Network boot capture of modified OS reference VM, but without MDT?

    Hi All
Guess the Title of the question sums it up really.
Is it possible to do a network-boot (aka PXE) capture of an OS that has been modified, so that its WIM is created for use within other deployment Task Sequences?
I know that this is possible via MDT's "Sysprep and Capture" Task Sequence, but this integration has not been done yet, and from time-scales is not possible.  Just curious if others have found a work around via custom Task Sequence(s) of some
kind?  If not will have to go with the SCCM's more manual 'Capture Media' option.
    Any help much appreciated.
    Kind Regards
    Andrew

    Hello,
It is possible to capture image without MDT integration
    http://www.windows-noob.com/forums/index.php?/topic/4468-using-sccm-2012-rc-in-a-lab-part-7-build-and-capture-windows-7-x64/
You can also do this manually.
You need sysprep the reference image first, then boot into win PE with either PXE or USB bootable device. Run ImageX or DISM tool to capture the image. Check this:

  • Is PXE network booting supported on 875p Neo FIS2R?

    Hi all,
I have spent a full day trying to get my computer to boot via PXE from a remote server.  My computer is equipped with an MSI 875p Neo FIS2R motherboard.
    relevant stats are as follows:
    Motherboard: MSI 875p Neo FIS2R
Ethernet Card: Integrated on Motherboard (Intel 82547EI (CSA Interface Gigabit LAN))
The PXE server to which I am trying to connect is running Windows 2000 Server and is configured with Windows Remote Installation Service.  The server has been tested with another pxe client (my laptop) and I am able to boot over the network succesfully.  It looks like everything is configured properly on the server side.
I am using the msi motherboard's Intel 82547EI integrated ethernet controller when attempting to connect to the server.  I do not have another PCI ethernet controller that I can try as an alternative.
I could not find any mention of network booting in the boot sequence section of the BIOS configuration, nor anywhere else in the BIOS settings.  I have made sure the integrated ethernet controller is enabled in the BIOS.
I also upgraded the BIOS to the most recent version (2.4) but there is still no sign of any 'network boot' settings in the boot sequence nor anywhere else in the BIOS settings.
See the following webpage for the BIOS versions:
    http://www.msicomputer.com/support/bios_result.asp?platform=Intel&model=875P%20Neo-LSR/FIS2R%20(MS-6758%20PCBv1)&newsearch=1
Note that BIOS version 2.2 specifically mentions:
"This BIOS fixes the following problems of the previous version:
    - System cannot login to PXE server without floppy drive installed."
This seems to suggest that the motherboard supports PXE.  While I do not have a floppy drive installed on my machine, this BIOS update indicates that a lack of a floppy drive should not pose a problem.
When booting the computer I am presented with a few keystroke options, one of which is to press F12 for a 'Network Boot'.  After pressing F12 I receive no indication that the computer is attempting to contact a PXE server and the computer boots into Windows XP as usual.
I have searched the MSI forums and have yet to come across a solution.  Signs point to there being PXE support but I must be missing something.  Can anyone give me any definitive answers here?  Thanks in advance.

I've since been in contact with MSI technical support.  Oddly they cannot seem give me a definitive answer on the support of PXE in MSI motherboards so again I'm turning to you guys.  I'm really hoping someone out there has some experience with PXE and any sort of MSI motherboard.  Surely someone must have run into this issue before.  Anyone?  Anyone at all?

  • Network Booting Solaris 10 on Netra T4 - scratch memory overflow error

    Hi,
I recently got a hold of a Netra T4 server, and am now trying to install Solaris 10 on it. Since the server can DVD-driveless, I had to resort to booting it over the network from a boot server. that path was one of the specific paths that I used to manipulate the boot. I resulted to trying this because it was unable to load from kernel/sparcv9/unix. This thing is, that path is available on the media that I am using, so I have no idea why is it saying it can't find it.
    The path that you see:
    <pub/install/Solaris_10/Tools/Boot/platform/SUNW,Netra-T4/kernel/drv/sparcv9/lombus>
was one of the paths that I tried using to get it to install from, because it said it couldn't find the default path. The path you see just happened to be the one that was on the screen when I copied it to show the error message in this thread.
As you can see, I'm a little stuck. As it stands...I don't know many things about installing on sparc servers.
With that said, any help would do. At the moment, I am downloading the Solaris 9 media, and then I will try to get at Solaris 10 by upgrading the software. If this fails, I will just buy a DVD drive.
    Can anyone still help me?

    -- Sun Microsystems SunFire V120 Server (1GB of Ram and 2x 36GB 10K RPM SCSI3 drives)
    -- CentOS 5.1 Linux Server
-- Solaris 10 SPARC DVD ISO Image
-- DB25 to RJ45 Serial Cable accessing V120 LOM via Minicom application on CentOS 5 server
Via the http://www.docbert.org/Solaris/Jumpstart/linux.html site, I have configured the following:
    * NFS Server (nfs-utils under RedHat)
    * bootparams server (bootparamd under RedHat)
    * rarpd server (rarpd under RedHat)
    * tftp server (tftp-server)
    CentOS Server Settings:
    [root@jsserv ~]# cat /etc/ethers
    0:3:ba:36:34:48 jsclient
    [root@jsserv ~]# cat /etc/bootparams
    jsclient root=jsserv:/jumpstart/sol10/Solaris_10/Tools/Boot install=jsserv:/jumpstart/sol10 boottype=:in
    [root@jsserv ~]# cat /etc/exports
    /jumpstart *(ro,no_root_squash)
    [root@jsserv ~]# cat /etc/hosts
    192.168.0.20 jsserv
    192.168.0.22 jsclient
    [root@jsserv ~]# ls -l /tftpboot
    lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 20 Mar 7 13:35 C0A80016 -> inetboot.sol10.sun4u
    lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 20 Mar 7 13:35 C0A80016.SUN4U -> inetboot.sol10.sun4u
    -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 217016 Mar 7 13:34 inetboot.sol10.sun4u
On CentOS Linux server -- under /var/log/messages, the rarpd shows this message:
    Mar 7 14:24:41 jsserv rarpd[3516]: RARP request from 0 on eth0
    Mar 7 14:24:41 jsserv rarpd[3516]: RARP response to 0 192.168.0.22 on eth0
On the SunFire V120 server, the console displays:

Anyone know where I can get the firmware (OBP) update / upgrade version 4.22 for the SunFire V120 server?
There is an old thread (http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=5137796) that talks of having to update your firmware 4.22.x, but I have looked through the SunSolve site and I cannot find a reference to this firmware any place for the SunFire V120 servers.
