Network Emulation on Solaris

Recently I've begun developing server software on Solaris, but just realized I can't find anything like Linux's netem (tc) or any other tool for Network Emulation (for controlling things like bandwidth, latency, drop rates, etc...). Is there any software for Network Emulation on Solaris? Or will I have to setup a Linux-box as a bridge?
Thanks!

how to configure the network printer in solaris 10
    like hp laserjet printer/printers,

    Very very easy.
Go to the print manager . (printmgr I believe or in the launch menu under preferences)
    select add a network printer
Fill out the info. I find that the hpijs printer driver works better then the suggested foomatic on my hp 4000s. I could not print pdfs otherwise.
Other things to know is the protocol should be BSD (at least it works for me). And add the port to the destination so 192.168.0.1:9600 for example (for hp).
thats about it. To have it show up correctly in JDS you should probably add it to the printer list under the launch->preferences->printer preferences.

  • How  to configure the network on Sun Solaris 8

The Sun workstation is a license server, and Window NT workstation need to access the license file that located in the sun workstation.
Now the Window NT workstation cannot connect with the sun solaris, and I guess that I need to configure the network on Sun Solaris 8.
Could you please tell me how to do that step by step?
If there is the system tool like the window system to configure the network easily and quickly.
    I appreciate it.
    Mark

If your sun system is working then probably it has network configured already .You can check it by the following command on the sun.
    ifconfig -a
Generally applications asks where license server is located and you need to give the ip-address or host name only . Application docs will give more detail about it.
You can get ip-address from ifconfig comand above.

  • How to install a network print on solaris 10

How to install a network print on solaris 10?
    Thank You!

    Thank you Zettabyte!!
Folks, network printers should NOT BE configured like this:
    lpadmin -p somequeue -s someprinter
that creates a remote style queue and puts all the I/O and processing capability on the basic LPD listener present on network printer interfaces. This will cause problems down the road, not to mention that you cannot control access, get any logging, filter content, or control banner pages.
Network printers should use any software (or PPD file) supplied by the vendor over the basic lpadmin/netstandard config.
You can install CUPS, but Oracle won't support it until it's part of the OS (S11, apparently).
The "System Administration Guide: Solaris Printing" is highly recommended for those administering printers on Solaris.

  • Network service in solaris

Am new to solaris and so I could not find a way to restart network service in solaris. Like in Linux u can use service network restart, similarly how do we restart the network in Solaris. I changed the route of the server and want the change to reflect without a server restart. Please help....I googled and came up with nothing regarding this...

    I'm guessing that you update /etc/defaultrouter ?
    then, to restart network:
    svcadm restart svc:/milestone/network:default
To get system to reread network config files:
    svcadm refresh svc:/milestone/network:default

  • Network emulator for Linux with a good gui?

    Hi all,
At work I use NEWT (Network Emulator Toolkit for Windows) http://blog.mrpol.nl/2010/01/14/network … r-toolkit/ in conjunction with a packet capture tool. I would like to see if I can use Linux instead; I will use Wireshark for packet capturing/analysing, but I need an equivalent GUI tool to replace NEWT. What NEWT does for me: block ports, ip ranges, throttle bandwidth, etc.
From searching I found netem, but I can't find an actively developed gui for it. Does anyone know what I can use?
    Thanks.

Thanks! I should've thought of looking at the Firewalls wiki page; it didn't cross my mind that there would network shaping tools there. Looks like I should be covered with any luck!
I think Shorewall/Vuurmuur could replace NEWT, and then I'd use Wireshark on the side for the packet analysing. I see Shorewall has a webmin config tool, which would be great for others to learn.

  • Graphical Terminal Emulator for Solaris

    hi all,
can anyone recommend a graphical terminal emulator for solaris? i'd like to see the solaris graphical desktop from a windows PC.

Quite good is commercial XWin by Starnet. Demo version enables 30 minutes of uninterrupted work. I assume that You know all about minor slip in Xsetup file in Solaris distribution.

  • How can I run the toolkit/emulator on Solaris?

I am demonstrating applications to customers that has a mobile device MIDlet that interacts with a webservice that is running on SJSAS81SE. I am trying to showcase Sun's products but I can't find a method to run an emulator on Solaris. Even netbean's 4.1 mobile pack only runs on Linux or Windows.
If there isn't a workaround I will either have to carry 2 machines with me (1 Solaris of the appserver and 1 Windows for the emulator) or I can switch to running Windows.
    Any help would be appreciated.

Does this run Desktop software, or "Apps"?

  • How can I configure to use a HP Laserjet 4000 network printer on Solaris 8?

    Hi,
I have to configure a Solaris 8 machines to print some doc on a network HP Laserjet printer. However, I have no idea how to configure it. Do anyone have some suggestion how to do it?
Do I need JetDirect to do so?
If yes, how can I get it?
    Thx a lot!

Easiest and quickest way is with Jetdirect or the later HPPI - both available from HP.

  • Changing a Network Interface on Solaris 8

    This is the joke:
1- Solaris 8 was first installed with a NIC not recognized by Solaris (in-board)
2- A compatible PCI Card has been installed (3Com 3C905B-TX).
3- Old Card has been desactived in the BIOS. No IRQ conflict.
4- At reboot, the Configuration Assistant recognizes the device...
5- At boot, the system does not manage to configure the interface.
The reason comes from that the interface is not recognized by
ifconfig (does not appear in result of "ifconfig -a").
The message "BAd File Number" is obtained with "ipconfig elxl0 plumb".
    Questions: - Why?
    - Is there a solution? (apart to reinstall the system...)
    Hints:
    - the interface should be named "elxl0"
(because it is the name of the 3Com interface on other Solaris PC's).
    Is it right ????
    - the driver name elxl does not appear in the PCI devices of "prtconf -D"
    - but the file /kernel/drv/elxl exists !
Waiting for enlighting, thanks very much!!!!

  • Install network card on solaris 8 x86 10/1

    Hi
how can I install my netwoek card on solaris 8 x86
    Thank a lot

In the same way you install any other card. Plug the card in
the slot., and install the appropriate solaris driver for that
network card. May be you want to detail the problem, if this
is not you are looking for.

  • Network cards for Solaris 8 x86

Which network cards are supported by Solaris 8 x86 ?
    Thank you !
    dorin.

Are you considering any particular cards ?
    I have had good luck with DEC21040 (10baseT) and DEC21140 (100baseT) cards
in Solaris 7 through Solaris 10 on x86.
The same can be said for 3Com 3C905C-TX cards.
Solaris 8x86 will recognize many chipsets natively,
and a number of third party developers have created working driver packages.
Most of their driver packages are free, but a few are not free.
Solaris 9 works with a few more, and Solaris 10 works with yet more adapters.
The Solaris 8x86 HCL list has the native cards.
This other Sun web page can direct you toward 3rd party sites.

  • How can I set ne2000 network adapter in Solaris 8 for x86

    I am a beginner. I can not set a ne2000 compatible network adapter(isa) in Solaris 8 for x86.
    I do follows:
    write the file ' /kernel/drv/nei.conf ' with ' name="nei" parent="isa" reg=0x1,0x0300,0x1f interrupts=10 '
and use the command: drvconfig -i nei --failed
use the command: drv_add -i nei; devlinks; --there is no the command drv_add
use the command: touch /reconfigure; reboot
after reboot, use the command: ifconfig nei0 plumb --failed
Did I miss something obvious, or what driver should I use?

After backing up the suspect hard drive, I ran Disk Repair on it and found no problems. Then ran Disk Warrior again and no problems. It is a Hitachi, btw.
As for the PrefPane issue: Repairing disk permissions on the main volume and on the partition that holds the system did not make any difference.
Reinstalled the 10.5.8 upgrade, performed safe start and then repaired permissions again. Still getting a blank PrefPane for network.
Next step is to try and trash the System Configuration plist and Network Interfaces plist.
