Network settings looking for PPOE

I've been using Airport for a while and its been working great. Kept getting a message that the mac couldn't find a PPOE. Had been ignoring it until my upgrade to 10.5.6. Now its slowing things down.
Noticed the ethernet connection is still trying to connect even though Airport is already connected.
How can I stop the "built in ethernet" to stop trying to find the connection?

Open Network preferences. From the Tool icon menu at the bottom of the port list select Set Service Order. Move the Airport port to the top of the list. This should force that port to be used as the main port. Then remove your PPoE service if you aren't using one.

  • Looking for PPoE hostq

Guys, I am running into the same problem as that reported by a few others. Have tried all solutions but to no avail. I was connecting fine till 24 hours ago. Turned on the PowerBook G4 this morning and have run smack into this problem with my Airport Express being unable to connect to the internet. I am able to connect just fine by hooking the Ethernet cable from the DSL modem into my Powerbook. The problem arises when I am connecting to the internet using my Airport Express Base Station - it simply is unable to connect and goes on and on about 'Looking for PPoE host'. I have tried everything suggested on these posts but am not having any success. Would downgrading some firmware solve the problem? if so, what version do I download to and where do I find the stuff to download to? Why is Apple not issuing a fix for this real irritating problem?

Guys, here is the solution to the problem: downgrade your Apple Expess Base Station firmware to 6.1.1 and the problem disappears. I just did that and the airport express is now able to connect to the internet.

  • I am having trouble connecting to my wireless internet. I keep getting message that my network configuration settings have changed. Ive been advised that i need to change settings to look for dynamic ip address ?

I am having trouble connecting to my wireless internet and am getting the message that my network configuration settings have changed. I have reported it to my provider who advised that they think the Mac is looking for a fixed IP address and they use dynamic addresses. I have had the Mac for months and have not had this problem before. I would appreciate any help please on how to fix this ?

Then I get a separate pop up that says: Secure Connection Failed. aus3.mozilla:443 uses an invalid security certificate.
The certificate is only valid for the following names: securelogin.arubanetworks.com, www.securelogin.arubanetworks.com
    (Error code: ssl_error_cert_domain)
This could be a problem with the server's configuration or it could be someone trying to impersonate the server.
If you have connected to this server successfully in the past the error may be temporary and you can try again later.
I have tried many many times!

  • HT1338 My Mac keeps Looking for Networks? The ICON in menu when clicked shows the WI- FI (in gray) ON then goes to Looking for Network again. Shutting down the connection.

My MAC keeps looking for networks? The ICON in menu bar when clicked shows the WI-FI (in grey) it keeps shuting off and disconnecting. Any Ideas???

Test after taking each of the following steps. Back up all data before making any changes.
    1. Make sure the network is on the preferred list by following these instructions.
    2. Follow the instructions in this support article under the heading "Symptom: The network connection drops unexpectedly."
    3. Make a note of all your settings for Wi-Fi in the Network preference pane, then delete the connection from the connection list and recreate it with the same settings. You do this by clicking the plus-sign icon below the connection list, and selecting Wi-Fi as the interface in the sheet that opens. Select Join other network from the Network Name menu, then select your network. Enter the password when prompted and save it in the keychain.
    4. From the Location menu at the top of the Network preference pane, select Edit Locations. A sheet will drop down. Click the plus-sign button to create a new location. Give it any name you want. In the new location, set up the Wi-Fi service with the same settings you used before. Click Apply and test.
    5. Launch the Keychain Access application. Search for and delete all AirPort network password items that refer to the network. Make a note of the password first.
    6. In some cases, the problem has been resolved by repairing permissions on the startup volume.
    7. Reinstall OS X.

  • Looking For Optimal Wireless Settings For Multiple WRT310N's

Folks, I have 3 Linksys WRT310N routers (all at the most current level firmware) around my house serving as both wired and wireless access points.  I have Verizon DSL service (3 MB) as my ISP.  We have a couple of IBM T60p laptops (w/Win XP Pro), a Lenovo S12 netbook (w/Win 7), and my son also has an Apple iPod Touch all that access our home network via the wireless network provided by the WRT310N's.  The WRT310N's all have unique static IP addresses (DHCP disabled - IP addresses being issued by the Verizon DSL modem/router).  My current wireless settings are as follows:
    Wireless / Basic Wireless Setings:
    Wireless Configuration = Manual
    Network Mode = Mixed
Network Name (SSID) = (something other than linksys!)
    Radio Band = Auto
    Wide Channel = Auto
    Standard Channel = Auto
SSID Broadcast = Enabled (Need enabled or the Apple iPod Touch will not find the wireless network)
    Wireless / Wireless Security:
    Security Mode = WPA2 Personal
    Encryption = TKIP or AES
Passphrase = (Something really clever here!)
    Key Renewal = 3600 seconds
    Wireless / Wireless MAC Filter:
Enabled (With all the appropriate MAC addresses permitted)
    Wireless / Advanced Wireless Settings:
    AP Isolation = Enabled
    Frame Burst = Enabled
Authentication Type = Auto (greyed out - can NOT change)
    Basic Rate = Default
Transmission Rate = Auto (greyed out - can NOT change)
    N Transmission Rate = Auto
    CTS Protection Mode = Auto
    Beacon Interval = 100
    DTIM Interval = 1
    Fragmentation Threshold = 2346
    RTS Threshold = 2347
My goal is obviously to provide the best performance on all the wireless devices that we have.  Since the laptops and netbook have a variety of OS's (and sometimes our neighbor comes over with his Mac laptop) I'd like to keep it flexable for those PC's and the Apple iPod Touch.  I've also read that if you have multiple wireless access points you should set them all to different channels.  If so, which channels?  Or, should they all be on the same channel so one could walk from room to room without losing their wireless connection?  Since I have 3 WRT310N's I'm interested in what recommendations there are for performance to keep the laptops and netbook communicating using wireless "N" yet keeping compatible for the Apple iPod Touch on wireless "G".  Thank you all in advance for any advice or info.

Hmmmm, for quite some time I've left the SSID the same on all the WRT310N routers.  At one time a while back I was told to do this by a Linksys technician.  They all are cascaded (LAN-to-LAN via the ethernet ports) off of the 4 ethernet ports on the Verizon DSL modem/router in the similar manner described in the following article:
    http://www6.nohold.net/Cisco2/ukp.aspx?vw=1&docid=785463d9ecaf4cac84aed245b08d615f_3733.xml&pid=96&s...
(Switch) ethernet port 1 on each WRT310N is connected to ports 1 through 3 on the Verizon DSL modem/router.  Hence, each WRT310N is acting as an access point (wired and wireless) throughout the house.  I do NOT use the 'Internet' port on any of my WRT310N routers.  They each have a static (fixed) IP address like 192.16.1.10, 192.168.1.11 and 192.168.1.12.  They all reside on the same LAN subnet as my Verizon DSL modem/router which is responsible for issuing DHCP IP addresses for the entire home network.  The remaining (switched) ethernet ports 2, 3, and 4 on each WRT310N is left open for local hard-wired devices like printers and multimedia devices (like XBox 360, etc.).  So bottom line is that each WRT310N is acting like a 4-port network switch that also has wireless capabilities (like a WAP).
By keeping the SSID the same on all the WRT310N routers I can keep a single wireless profile on each device (i.e... PC's) for my entire house.  So I can go and access WRT310N #1 (with let's say with SSID 'ABC') in my living room and later go into my home office room and access WRT310N #2 (with the same SSID - 'ABC') with the same wireless profile.  I believe it is the same concept used when someone stays at a hotel and accesses their public wireless network.  That way the hotel customers only have to set their SSID to let's say 'HILTON' regardless of which floor or room they are in.
So the part that I'm really focusing on is the wireless performance aspect.  My laptops like to operate on 'N' and get pretty good connection speeds (usually receive around 270 Mbps).  The Apple iPod Touch (2nd generation) only goes up to 'G' so I believe I need to keep a 'Mixed' Network Mode.  The part I'm not so sure about is the Channel Width and whether or not all 3 Linksys routers should be on the same channel (or set to Auto) or if I should manually set the channels and provide some separation between their channels.  That's where 'Channel Width' and 'Channel' settings get a bit over my head.  Now when I previously had multiple 'G' Linksys routers I contacted Linksys Technical Support and they said to use the same SSID and that I should separate the channels, but that was with their earlier 'G' versions.  Now that I have a more recent [N] version and the channel settings can be 'Auto' I'm wondering if the correct settings would still be to again separate the channels or maybe leave it up to the routers to function in 'Auto' mode.
And if I need to set each router up individually what recommended settings should they be?  As follows:
    WRT310N #1:
    Network Mode = Mixed
    Channel Width = ?
    Channel = ?
    WRT310N #2:
    Network Mode = Mixed
    Channel Width = ?
    Channel = ?
    WRT310N #3:
    Network Mode = Mixed
    Channel Width = ?
    Channel = ?
Here is a Cisco web page that I'm using as a reference:
    http://www6.nohold.net/Cisco2/ukp.aspx?pid=80&vw=1&articleid=21194
I'm also looking for any suggestions on tuning the Advanced Wireless Settings like Beacon Interval, Fragmentation Threshold, RTS Threshold, etc.  Again, my wireless user devices are both G and N and have various OS's.
Thank you again in advance for all your help!!

  • C6380 Network Settings display shows No Link for IP address

No longer able to print wirelessly.  Network settings on the printer shows the following:
    Hostname:  HPE3B497
    IP Address: No Link
    MAC:  002264e3b498
    SSID: hpsetup
I set the printer to factory settings out of frustration and got the above values.  Now reinstalling the printer for wireless operation doesn't work (I complete deinstalled it prior t starting all over) even when downloading the drivers from the HP site.  The SSID does no match my router SSID and the printer doesn't see my SSID even though my laptop is successfully connected to that router (WEP).  I have entered the router password several times but the printer still doesn't see it.
On the printer the blue light is on.  But the display doesn't show the wireless indicator.
I am not real technical, but I was able to set this printer up to print wirelessly when I first got it about a year ago.  It worked fine up until recently when I continually got error messages that it was offline even though the printer display looked like it was connected.  Absolutley nothing has changed with my router, ISP provider or laptop.  So, I'm stumped.  Anyone have any ideas?
Oh, and I also get a message when printing out the status that there may be a MAC address filter that needs to be turned off.  I have no idea how to do that and have no documentation on the AT&T router I was provided.

Your printer's radio may have died. From the front of the printer: Setup > Network > Wireless Network Test (or similar words).
Does the printer pass all its self-tests?
Say thanks by clicking "Kudos" "thumbs up" in the post that helped you.

  • Does Security Update 2008-008 include a fix for "Network Settings" message?

I tried posting this earlier but it was removed, I suppose, because it contained a rather mild comment expressing disappointment. Here is the expurgated version. I'm not inviting rants.
I've looked through the description of the update (it's titled, incorrectly, for 10.5.6 only; in fact, it's a release for 10.4.11, as well.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3338
My "user to user," technical question: Am I correct in concluding that there is no mention in this description of a fix for the "Your network settings have been changed by another application" "problem" which first appeared with 2008-006, almost three months ago? It seems that way, but I don't pretend to understand all the technical language, so I'm asking someone to confirm.
Description aside, has anyone yet seen what this update, in practice, does or does not do for this issue? Thanks

    Seems so, unfortunately
