Network Share Credentials Problem

Hi all - I have PXE boot enabled on all the PCs in my organization so I can image machines in place. In my bootstrap.ini file I have the DefaultGateway VLAN for the IT area defined with UserID and UserPassword set so when machines get imaged back in our
area, we don't have to enter a username or password. However, in the rest of the organization, the User Credentials box to connect to the deployment share appears to prevent accidental or unauthorized deployments.
This method works great, but something odd happens when a standard user enters their credentials and tries to proceed. The User Credentials window disappears and nothing happens. It just hangs. I have the permissions for the deployment share set to Domain
Admins - Full Control, mdt_build (MDT service account) - Read & Execute, List Folder Contents and Read. Any idea what might be causing this?
Here's a copy of my bootstrap.ini file:
[Settings]
Priority=DefaultGateway, Default
[DefaultGateway]
10.1.30.1=ImageDeployment
[ImageDeployment]
UserID=mdt_build
UserPassword=password
[Default]
DeployRoot=\\MDTServer\MDTProductionShare$
UserDomain=mydomain
KeyboardLocale=en-US
SkipBDDWelcome=YES

I don't think this bootstrap.ini section is formatted properly.
Shouldn't it be something like:
[Settings]
Priority=DefaultGateway, Default
[10.1.30.1]
UserID=mdt_build
UserPassword=password
[Default]

  • Export-VM to a network share permission problems

    Hello,
    I am just getting into scripting backups of Hyper-V VMs using Powershell. I have using 2008 R for the Hyper-V host and 2008 R2 for the server with the network share. I am using Powershell Management Library. I have been able to export the VMs up to the local
    VM host. However, I have not been successful in exporting  to a network share. I get the stock message:
    "Failed to create export directory with error 'General access denied error'(0x80070005): MyVMtoExport (98504EFC-2B8A-43A8-A14D-999B78CFB736)
    Failed to create export directory."
    I have read about and applied NTFS and share permissions on the folder on the network share. I have given full control to my domain account, the domain Admin account, as well as the machine account of the Hyper-V host.
    I have been able to (as the same user), xcopy files from the Hyper-V host to the share. I have also been able to export the VM from Hyper-V manager to the share.
    I have gone back an forth checking permissions, but can't seem to export the VM as myself or as the Hyper-V host machine account.

    Hi ,
    I assume that the logged user can manager hyper-v and it has proper share/ntfs permission on share folder (also the computer account ).
    Please run powershell.exe directly on hyper-v host do not "run as administrator" then export the VM   .
    BTW , here is a script for exporting .

  • Leopard Windows Networking/Share Access Problem Solution

    Problem Solved!!
    I just got my very first Mac 2 days ago. A Mac Book. Right out of the box I was able to see all the Windows PCs on my home network. 3 XP machines and 1 Vista machine. But somewhere along the way probably after the first reboot I was no longer able to see the machines or the shares. Tried a lot of things that I found on this forum. What worked is the following
    Changes all my windows PCs from DHCP to Static IP
    Left my Mac Book still as DHCP
    Updated the /etc/hosts file on my Macbook with the IP address and names of all my Windows PCs
    The first time around went into Finder/Go/Connect Server and typed in smb://windowspcname/share
    Voila!! I got connected. It asked for the ID/pwd that I want to use to connect to my Vista and XP machines and bingo I was connected and that server now appeared in my Network and Shares. Once I did that with one PC the rest of them automagically appeared. If they don't simply connect manually once. Thereafter they will appear automatically in your Network and Shares.
    Works great for me!!

  • Problems with VPN and Windows Network Shares

    I'm in the middle of a Windows domain migration and I've setup the two way trust for the domains.
    Cisco VPN clients authenticate against the old domain.
    A user with an account in the new domain and whos laptop is joined to the new domain (also has a user account in the old domain) can connect to the VPN but is asked for Windows authentication when they connect to a network share in either domain.
    Users whos account/laptop are in the old domain don't have this issue.
    Any ideas or suggestions?

    This may happens because broadcasts do not go through an IPSec tunnel.
    Browsing Network Neighborhood is a function of the Microsoft browsing service. Any problems are usually because the PC or master browsers do not function properly. Network Neighborhood is officially not supported. However, it works if configured correctly. Browsing Network Neighborhood works by obtaining the browse list from either a master or backup browser. This list is obtained locally on your LAN by using NetBIOS Broadcasts to locate domain browsers.
    Inorder to resove this :
    Make sure you have NetBIOS over TCP enabled on the adapter that you use to connect to the domain.

  • Problem with NFS file adapter using a network share as source of files

    Hello,
    I have set up a sender cc with NFS format file adapter, with at the source directory a network share (
    server\sharename ). The share is on another system and not mapped to a local drivename, but it is open for everybody.
    The problem is, the adapter seems to not pick up the files in the directory, so there must be something I'm overlooking.
    - Both servers run on Windows
    - Share is available normally and open for everybody for all actions (including the SAPServiceSID user)
    - Files themselves are okay. If I put a file on a local drive and make the source directory the local drive instead of the network path, the file gets processed correctly
    - Because of the need for a file completion check, FTP is not an option
    Does anybody know what is going wrong, or what I could check for trace / logging info on possible cause of the problem?

    Hi,
    While using NFS mode you are supposed to put the file on XI server directory NOT to a common share directory of any other machine. And this is the reason your adapter in not picking the file.
    You can upload the file on XI server directory by using the tcode "SXDA_TOOLS", morevere you can check the file on the same directory with tcode "AL11". It is otherway-around, you can first select or chose the dir by AL11 and then put the file in the same dir by tcode SXDA_TOOLS.
    If you need more info about SXDA_TOOLS, let me know.

  • Network shares can't be ejected? ("Ghost" share problems)

    This topic is to try to solve a problem I'm having, as well as many of my Mac friends, when they use a network share, and it then cannot be unmounted.
    Basically, there are servers no longer accessible, because we switched LANs, etc.
    Symptoms: in the Finder, clicking on the "Eject" button next to the computer's name gives out a dialog telling "A disk on <share name> is in use. Try close applications. (approximately).
    Of course, closing all applications doesn't have any effect, neither does relaunching the Finder.
    In the Terminal, the command "mount" displays, among others:
    //GUEST:@ines:139/Shared Docs em Vaio1 on /Volumes/Shared Docs em Vaio1 (smbfs, nodev, nosuid, mounted by xxx)
    //GUEST@ines:139/Download on /Volumes/Download (smbfs, nodev, nosuid, mounted by xxx)
    I tried umount "Shared Docs em Vaio1", as well as the other share, and yet it outputs "not currently mounted"
    I then did lsof to check what files were open on these share, and the output starts with lsof: WARNING: can't stat() smbfs file system /Volumes/Shared Docs em Vaio1
    Output information may be incomplete.
    assuming "dev=2d000004" from mount table
    lsof: WARNING: can't stat() smbfs file system /Volumes/Download
    Output information may be incomplete.
    assuming "dev=2d000005" from mount table
    I've reached the end of my meager knowledge on this issue, which is minor (in the sense that performance is not affected), but relatively present nevertheless.
    Of course it goes off when rebooting, but I want to be able to solve this problem without a reboot, so how can it be?

    I don't know if it is the same with SMB shares, but with AFP ones I sometimes get this message when the share point is on my MacBook & it goes to sleep. The 'solution' -- such as it is -- is just to wait for the client Mac to notice the server isn't responding & pop up a server disconnect notice on the screen. Once you click the 'ok' button in that notice, the share point disappears from the Finder & no more messages about something on it being in use appear.
    This notice can take several minutes to appear. I don't know of any way to speed up the process, or if it would be wise to try. I assume the long timeout is so that brief network outages are not problematic.

  • TV Show download problem with library on a network share

    My local drive has 100GB disk space available. I have my iTunes library configured to be on a network share which happens to be on a NAS (network attached storage) drive. My NAS drive has over 600GB disk space available. When I try to download a TV Show (Battlestar Galactica) I get an error which says that:
    "The disk you are attempting to use is full"
    This is nowhere near true. I tried several times, then switched my iTunes library to point to my local drive, and the download worked. Does iTunes have a problem with a library on a network share?
    Help!
    Thanks,
    Brad

    Not easy because in order to open just one library file you would have to be running the same version of iTunes on all computers which would be limited to the lowest version supported by your computers (the G3).  Try to open a iTunes 10 library with 9.2.1 and it will refuse. This in turn might not support your equipment.  Even if you can do this you would have to make sure only one copy of iTunes was running because the library file cannot be opened by multiple copies of iTunes at the same time.

  • Problems with mount and unmount of network shares

    Hi,
    I use an Apple script to mount four network shares during startup of an OS 10.4.4 Powerbook. Unfortunately it seems that Tiger can't always mount them all. Sometimes it only mounts three of them, but pressing Command + K indicates that the fourth is already mounted because it's grayed out. How come I can't see it on neither the desktop nor the favorites list in a Finder window then?
    I have a Tiger installation at home with Ciscos VPN Client 4.8 installed. I use that VPN client to gain access to the company's network. When the connection is established, I mount a share (with AFP over TCP/IP) on the company's server running Win2003 and ExtremeZ-IP.
    When I close down Ciscos VPN Client, the mounted network share doesn't unmount automatically, and if I forget to toss that network drive in the trash before closing down or restarting my Mac, it hangs. Why can't it just unmount that drive automatically when the VPN connection is gone?

  • Window 8.1 system unable to access network shares via VPN connection

    Is there something inherent to Windows 8.1 that prevents it from accessing shares on a domain?
    I know that it cannot join a domain, but does that also mean that it cannot access shares which are on a domain?
    My problem is that I have several user that are running windows 8.1 that are connecting to our network via a VPN.
    The users have domain accounts but their computers as windows 8.1 cannot joined to the domain.
    So to access network shares they have to use their domain credentials to create a VPN connection.
    Once connected the user can RDP to systems on the domain using their domain accounts, so I know that their user names/passwords and permissions are correct. They can access these systems using the computer name, so I don't feel that I have a DNS issue.
    They can see the shares on our file server, but when they try to access their departments shared file, they receive an access denied message. There are a few shares that are completely wide open, shared to all users and all departments but they cannot access
    those shares either.
    You can ping the file server, from the the client when they are connected to the VPN but you just cannot access any of the shares.
    So...
    I am thinking that it has something to do with windows 8.1 and not being able to join a domain, but I cannot find anything to explicitly support this thought.
    Other users running a variety different OS (windows 7, OSX, Linux) can all access the shares without any problems via the VPN, so I am a little stumped.

    I have done some more testing and oddly enough I can map a drive if I use the IPaddress, but not the computer name, when checking the check box "connect using different credentials"and providing they users domain credentials.
    This seems to point to a DNS issue, one would think, but I can hit the file share server by name \\fileserver.dev.lan
    I can see all the shares, so dns seems to be fine right?
    So I don't understand why I can map a drive using do the IPaddress and not the machine name, but yet I can see and ping the server by name?
    When I try to create a mapped drive by machine name I receive the following message:
    Windows cannot access \\fileserver.dev.lan\all
    You do not have permissions to access \\fileserver.dev.lan. contact your network administrator  to request access.
    But if I use the \\x.x.x.x\all using the very same user and password I get connected with no problem.
    This only seems to happen on windows 8.1, which leads me to think that has something to do with OS.
    I am thinking about upgrading to windows 8.1 pro, but I don't want to go though the hassle and expanse is the OS is not the problem.

  • How to get "fast user switching" and network shares playing nice

    I've been alternating between banging my head against a wall and reading every forum I could find to try and get a reasonable compromise between using "Fast user switching" and sharing a folder from a file server.  It baffles me how the network share/mount model of OSX/AFP is completely killed by fast-user-switching; this is a big problem with Apple requiring users to be actively logged in to share music/video from iTunes which therefore essentially requires fast-user-switching if anyone else wants to use the computer.  (anyone find it odd that you can share files without being logged in, but sharing songs requires an active login for each user who is sharing?  Apple: time to make iTunes sharing a service!)
    For the sake of example, lets just say I want to share my /Groups folder from my desktop and have it be accessible to my laptop.  Here are all the things that I tried:
    Apple Method 1) Share /Groups in the Server.app on the desktop (running Lion Server), use finder on the laptop and drag the share icon to "Login Items", alternative use a startup Apple script using "mount volume"  Both of the options work and will mount the /Groups folder under /Volumes/Groups, of course when the second person logs in via fast-user-switching (and occasionally the first person for no apparent reason), they will get /Volumes/Groups-1 since /Volumes/Groups is already taken.  Tomorrow we log in a different order and now the previously /Volumes/Groups-1 user has their mount at /Volumes/Group and vice versa.  Any links, aliases, finder sidebar references, and application settings which pointed to yesterday's location are now BROKEN.  Not very user friendly to my mother-in-law who is trying to find those pictures of the kids and doesn't know anything about mount points. I also can't reasonably mirror the file location structure on the desktop so that application preferences that are synced between the two (portable home directories) work.   fail.
    Apple Method 2) Use automounter and set up by hand direct maps for /Groups or an indirect maps for the children of /Groups.  Now it will automatically get mounted to /network/servers/SERVER/Groups/ on the laptop and on the desktop it will automatically create a similar symlink structure so that the same path (/network/servers/SERVER/Groups) work both on desktop and laptop.  Cool.  Except when the second person logs in, the /network/servers/SERVER/Groups/ mountpoint is already owned by the first user and they don't have any permissions to access it.  Fail.
    Apple Method 3) Use mount_afs and specify directly the mount-points.  Have each user have their own startup AppleScript which mounts /Groups to a different location (e.g. /Users/Shared/username/Groups) that way they don't conflict with multiple users.  On the desktop, set up symlinks from /Users/Shared/username/Group to /Groups so that it will be the same as the client and applications settings will work when synchronized back/forth by portable-home-directories.  Will it work, yes it does, but what a bear to maintain.  Is this really what I should expect to do just to have multiple users on my desktop and laptop (which again is essentially required now if I want to do any type of iTunes sharing).  This can't be what apple expects.
    What I ended up doing - the "not quite apple" solution.
    Non-Apple Method 4) After a read of "Autofs: Automatically Mounting Network File Shares in Mac OS X" (http://images.apple.com/business/docs/Autofs.pdf) at the very end there is a single paragraph  of "Kerberized NFS": "A Kerberized NFS mount can have multiple connections from multiple users, each using the correct user’s credentials for each transaction. This allows administrators to support multiple users, each authenticated with their own credentials to the same mount point. This is very different from AFP and SMB mounts," (emphasis mine)
    It appears that by using good 'ole NFS (abeint with Kerberos for security!) you can actually have multiple users on the same mount point.  Roughly following the guidance at https://support.apple.com/kb/TA24986?viewlocale=en_US.  What I needed to do was:
    1) create /etc/exports on my desktop and add a single line "/Groups -sec=krb5".  The existence of /etc/exports triggered a start of nfsd which no longer has any GUI options in Lion.
    2) Add a line to /etc/auto_master on my laptop "/-  auto_mymounts" to reference a new direct map.
    3) Create /etc/auto_mymounts and add a single line "/Groups         SERVER:/Groups" to create the direct map.
    THAT'S IT.  Three lines in three files.
    Now when I log into my laptop, there is a /Groups that is a network mount of my desktop's /Groups, same location AND it works for all of my users, even simultaneously.
    In the end I'm happy with what I've got, but man was this a difficult path just to support fast-user-switching.  In Lion, Apple appears to be getting away from NFS (no longer turned on by default and remove from the GUI controls) but clearly this really useful functionality which doesn't exist in AFP.
    I'm really curious, after all this work.  Any other ways to accomplish this?

    In my example above, yes I chose to mount the share "Groups" to the top of the root since that is where I put it on my server and I wanted to keep them similar; but that was just my preference, it isn't a requirement.  You can export and mount from other directories.

  • Network shares in Windows 7: What am I doing wrong?

    I bought the extreme 6th gen and it's working rather well however I'm running into issues trying to map network share in windows.
    I have a Seagate Slim 500gb bus powered external drive hooked up to the USB port on the back of extreme. There are 2 partitions both formatted for hfs, one for time machine and one for copying files.
    While in mountain lion, the share works fine. I've run time machine several times and it seems all is good. However under windows it's a different story. I will map a share, I.e. \\devicename\partitionname and then it will prompt for login details. I have a device password setup, so it's the name I gave the APE and the password. However I will almost always get an error saying that "x: refers to a location that is no longer available" error.
    However, if I update the APE then the network share operates fine after it restarts. Also, if I unplug the drive then plug it back in after getting the error that seems to fix it as well,
    Under osx there are no issues, so I don't know why this is happening under windows only, either my desktop or laptop. Login and workgroup credentials are correct.
    So is this a drive issue? Does the APE not like bus powered USB drives? Perhaps my Seagate slim is going to sleep and won't wake up unless I restart the APE. Can this be confirmed because I'm having a heck of time looking up this issue anywhere else, but surely I can be the only one running into this. Thanks.

    I am not sure what the last post means..
    If the drive sleeps and cannot be woken up by the request for files, it is unsuitable.
    Replace with another drive. .not a self powered one.
    Or you can try a powered hub  to unload the power problem from the AE.. they have never been great with USB drives that are self powered. Although the gen6 should have more than adequate power available.

  • Network Shares Forgotten

    Every time I want to open a file from within a program, the dialog box defaults to my 'Documents' folder. I then have to navigate to the afp network share folder again to open another file from the same folder. The dialog box seems to remember local folder positions but not network share folder positions. Any way I can force the dialog box to remember the last folder I was working in when using the saving and opening dialog boxes? Seems to happen on all programs I use.

    It seems that I found a workaround for the problem (it is still a bug in my opinion):
    here is my mounting-script that works well:
    delay 2
    tell application "Finder" to open home
    tell application "Finder"
              try
                        mount volume "afp://username:password@mynas/share1"
      delay 1
                        mount volume "afp://username:password@mynas/share2"
              end try
    end tell
    tell application "Finder" to close home
    I have it in the login-items.
    It basicly does the following: Open the finder with the home-view. Then mount the two shares. After that closes the finder window.
    (Replace username:password with the credentials needed to mount the share, "mynas" with the name or adress of the server and "share1", "share2" with the acutal name of the share.)
    The 2 seconds delay at the beginning is not really needed I suppose but since the script works I'll leave it there.
    In order to see the shares in the favorites section of the finders sidebar you have to drag them there once by hand. Afterwards they will show up there everytime the particular share is mounted.
    The trick is to open the finder window before the shares are mounted. When the script does this they will appear in the sidebar. I think there is the problem. When the script mounts the share without displaying the finder window, they will not show up in the sidebar. It is a bug introduced with ML.

  • Windows network shares disappearing when users are logged on to Mac

    We are having some problems with windows network shares disappearing when users are logged on to Mac computers.
    We have a number of Mac labs that users can logon to using their AD login credentials. Their network shares are saved on a windows file server. The ad plug has been configured on each client Mac as has the LDAP plug-in. It is configured to connect to the Xserve which is running as an OD master. The system preferences for the client Macs are being managed from the Xserve.
    The problem for the users is that they can log into the Mac no problem and they can see their network share appearing on the desktop and in the dock, but for some reason on random Macs and with random users the network share disappears. If they log off and log back in again the network share is still missing. As it happens randomly I can not put my finger on what the problem is.
    Most labs either have Intel iMacs running 10.4.11 or Intel iMacs running 10.5.5
