New 15-inch MBP (2008 MPB) battery drained to 84% in 15 mins. Help.

Hi there! I just popped in a brand new 15-inch MBP (square) battery into my 2008 MBP with Lion 10.7.4. It has drained to 84% in about 15 mintues. Is it a defective battery or a problem with caliberation? Thanks!!!

Calibrate it, and then you'll find out whether the problem is/was with the battery or its calibration.

    Good morning.
I've got an early 2009 17" MBP with which i'm thrilled but in the last couple of days, the battery has begun to act strangely.
For no obvious reason I too get the *Check battery" message both in the menu bar and when I go into System Info. I've noticed the battery capacity which used to be at around 12000 mAh now hovers closer to 2000-3000, although the battery only has 145 cycles on it.
The most extreme case was this morning when I turned on my MBP. The battery read as 78% full which seemed right a I'd used it late last night. I then closed it and let it sleep for about half an hour. When I returned, the computer was turned off. I had to plug it back into the mains before it would start again. It then informed me the battery was at 0% and I once again got the "check battery" message.
I have trouble believing it could drain completely in half an hour.
Has anyone had a similar issue and if so, has anyone come across a fix?
    All help appreciated.
    Cheers.

  • I have just got my new iPhone 4 white and the battery drains quicker than it should. How would I fix this?

I got my new iphone 4 white 32GB today and the battery drains quicker than it should

So based on that you're saying around 6 hours discharge? That sounds about right if you're on the web using 3G. Games and apps eat up the battery faster.
    Talk time:
Up to 7 hours on 3G
Up to 14 hours on 2G (GSM model only)
Standby time: Up to 300 hours
    Internet use:
Up to 6 hours on 3G
Up to 10 hours on Wi-Fi
Video playback: Up to 10 hours
Audio playback: Up to 40 hours
Knowing what you were using it for would help

  • Plugged in my new iPhone to charge before letting battery drain to 0%. Did I ruin it?

I plugged in my new iPhone 6 to charge before letting the battery drain to 0%. It was at about 86% when I plugged it in to my computer to restore everything from my previous phone and then left it to charge to 100%. Will my battery be ruined because of my failure to let it drain before charging it? Pls help!!

You aren't supposed to let it drain fully before charging it - in fact, repeatedly doing so can damage the battery.
Charge it whenever it is convenient for you. Try to avoid running it all the way out unless necessary.
Apple does recommend running it out about once per month, and you can also run it to 0% if the battery gauge seems to be incorrect.

  • Using 12 inch Powerbook as second screen for new 17 inch MBP.

My new 17' MBP should be here in the new day or two. I want to use my 3 year old 12 inch powerbook as a second screen, mainly to keep my email client open on that screen.
What is the best way to do this? I am sure it's not hard but I have never used a second screen.
for you super users out there....is there a way to run the programs on my bookbook from the keyboard on the MBP without remote desktop? I have some programs on that machine I need to use that can't be run on the new Intel machines (PAUP if you know it). They will be sitting right next to each other so I can just use the other keyboard but I like to save time at everything.

    Just try ScreenRecycler from http://www.screenrecycler.com/
You can even use a Windows PC or a Linux box as second display.

  • Brand new macbok pro with retina display battery draining

Not sure what's going on with my battery.  I started off at 100% and then about an hour and a half later was at 76%, still later it was draining before my eyes, and i was only using garageband.  i checked CPU usage and kernel task was at 1.5 percent...average energy impact of safari and flash is 35.59 and 29.09 respectively...(dont know if thats a lot or a little???) anyways, that's not the weirdest part. i downloaded coconut battery which said my maximum charge is 6636.  fine.  i plugged it in, and when it said %100 on my screen, on the coconut it was at 95%.  i let it charge till 100% on the coconut.  but my screen is completely inaccurate first telling me i have 10:30 left, and then now, a few minutes later, i have 11:21.  plus, my maximum battery capacity changed as well, and is now at 6626, before that it sunk to 6618.
    WHAT IS GOING ON??!!!

  • New 15-inch MBP 2.3GHz Retina display

I have a 2 year old 15" MBP which is due for an upgrade. The new systems have limited connections requireing Thunderbolt adaptors for simple things like ethernet and external displays. For busniness I need to drive older SVGA or DVI projectors I do not see an adapter to go from TBolt to SVGA or DVI directly. Is there a TBolt to Display port adpator so I could dasy chain two? OR can you plug a display port directly into a TBolt connector?
It's unfortunate Apple did away with these basic connections and force you to pay $30 each for what should be included.
    Thanks for any help

Thunderbolt ports are display port compatible, so display
port to whatever adapters should work.
I am disappointed, but not suprised by the latest Macbook Pro
updates.  The disappointment is that they did away with any
user upgrade/repair abilities.  I will have to think long and hard
as to whether I will get another MBP.

  • Macbook Pro battery drained and now it won't turn on

I have an early 2012 Macbook Pro. A couple of weeks ago my charger broke and I couldn't get a new one straight away, so the battery drained and it shut off. I don't normally let that happen, but there wasn't a whole lot I could do about it this time. I have a new magsafe charger now and the LED is solid orange as normal, but the macbook still wont turn on even though it's been charging for a good 50 minutes now. It sounded like it was booting up a couple of times and the first time the screen lit up grey and the loading animation (grey bars) showed up, but now it's just black again. I know it's going to take longer than normal to charge after the battery being completely drained for so long, but is it normal for it to take so long or does it sound like it's bolloxed?

    Try a SMC reset:

If no success, make an appointment at an Apple store genius bar for a FREE evaluation.

  • IPhone battery drain and crash at 50%

My iPhone 4, since updating to the most recent software, had started crashing when it gets down to 50% and 50% on the dot everytime. Now it seems to crash whenever it feels like it but never will it get below 50%. The only way the phone turns back on is when it is connected to a power source once again. I don't even get the dead battery signal when trying to re-boot or anything. Now it would sound like the issue is my battery but I booted up my 3GS with the latest update and same exact thing happens which leads me to believe it's Apple and their ever-so-terrible software.(have they ever released software that left phones in perfect working condition??NO) So maybe its my back-up right? I restored and set up as a new iPhone, same problems. The battery drains from 100%-90% @ regular speed and from 90%-70% the thing reeeallllyyy starts moving quick and from 70%-50% it's just a guess as to when it will die in that region. The issue is such a deal that it's basically renderring my phone useless. If I wanted to leave a phone plugged into my wall I would still have a house phone. The Idiot bar employees told me that the software showed no glitches but that was only dated back to my last restore which was just hours before entering the store. The idiot bar employee also told me that the battery drain issue was "not a known issue" for iOS5. ARE YOU KIDDING ME!? It's all over the internet! So far in my searching I have found few people with my crashing at 50% problem but I have found NO solution. Ya got any ideas?

I do have apple care that I mistakenly didn't register right when I got it. Now I can't find the receipt for my phone and I'm having issues getting it back under warranty. I'm planning on taking care of that and heading back into apple but I'm sure they'll tell me it's my issue.

  • UPGRADING RAM IN 2011 13 inch MBP i7

Can I use the 2x4GB RAM pieces from late 2010 13 inch MBP to upgrade my new 13 inch MBP i7
only difference I can see is that old ones are rated 133 GHz and new one is 166GHz  - please advise before I try this.

Thanks for that - would it make much difference using the older RAM anyway in the new machine - would the 200% size improvement overcome the small speed difference ?   Or is the result too drastic to make it worthwhile ?

  • Late-2013 15 inch MBP Retina screen issue (one part whiter than rest, see photo)

    Hi all.
I've literally had my new 15-inch mbp for a less than a month (got it Oct. 31, 2013). My screens already jacked up. Looks like the lower right corner of the display has suffered some sort of area-wide color change, so that the area appears white in color than the rest of the screen. I have no idea how this happened. Any thoughts?
It's still under warranty so i'll just take it in, but what could this possibly be?
    Thanks

It also seems to be changing shape, and getting a few flecks of the old brightness level over time. Sees second photo taken two hours after the first photo.

  • Battery drain after updating to iOS 5.1.1

After doing the update to iOS 5.1.1 the phone is getting hot "warm" near the processor and the battery drains about 1% per 10 mins in standby and 10X when running an app. Meaning that the phone will run about 6 hours when it used to run for 48 hours on a charge. When putting the phone in airplane mode battery life appears normal. Following others that have reported this issue, I've done a Reset All Settings and two Erase All Content and Settings then restored from back up. Unfortuately what worked for others has not worked for me...
Took the phone to the Apple store and was told by the genius that there are no issues with the update and that location servers were to blame. Explaining over and over and over again that none of those settings have changed and that the only thing that changed was the update I got no answers, just more frustrated.
Currently I have all location services off and wifi off but still have the same problem.
Looking to either find the magical reset sequence that others have has success with or just roll back the update.
    Help.

Close all open apps by double-tapping the home button, then swiping up and off the screen with the app window (not the smaller icon).
Reset your device: hold down the home button along with the sleep/wake button until the screen goes black and you see the Apple, then let go. (No data loss)

  • Is it possible to use a new battery for a MBP 15" in a MacBook Pro (15-inch Early 2008) ?

i have an old  MacBook Pro (15-inch Early 2008) and my battery is as close to dead as it can be. I was wondering if I could replace it for a new battery that works for the latest models.

I was looking at the ones you can get online http://store.apple.com/us/product/MA348LL/A   Do you know if one like this would work?
No, that's a 60 watt. You need an 85 watt.

  • Brand New MBP and Poor Battery Performance

I just bought a new 13-inch MacBook Pro to replace my stolen white MacBook (the Feb 2009 version). On the old MacBook, I got about 2.5 - 3 hours for the battery. This new MacBook, purchased about two weeks ago with Snow Leopard pre-installed, lasts, at most, 1.5 - 2 hours.
Is this really the expected battery longevity for a new MacBook Pro? Apple's claims are wild but I wouldn't have believed this much variance. When I look, it appears that even less is running than used to. The CPU usage stays very low for a long time during the day, sleeping on and off. Since the battery is not switchable by the user, this makes it tough under conditions where an electrical outlet is not available (like conferences).
Is there maybe a third-party easily replaceable battery out there so something else I can do? For long battery life, is the white MacBook a better choice?
    Thanks!

    Hi mwfanelli,
What you're experiencing with the 13" MacBook Pro is not normal. I have the same model laptop and I get 4+ hours under pretty decent load, I've gotten almost 6 hours off a full charge on several occasions.
To answer your question, there currently is no 3rd party offering for Apple's new design. There are 3rd party external power options but they can get pretty costly.

  • MBP 15-inch, Late 2008 - Windows 7 black screen

    Specs first:
    MacBook Pro 15-inch, Late 2008
    OS X 10.8.3 (12D78)
    Boot ROM Version:          MBP51.007E.B06
    Want to install:
    Windows 7 x64 Ultimate (disc)
I needed to format my windows partition because whenever I wanted to boot with bootcamp the screen would just stay black, vmware however worked fine.
So I deleted my partition and ran bootcamp again, created the partition restarted and this is where nothing happened.
My mac restarts, and the screen goes black, after a few minutes the disk stops spinning and then I'm left there indefinitely.
I have tried the iMac fix with copying the driver folder and unattended xml to a dos formatted usb, didn't work.
Resetting pram and smc, didn't work.
Different versions of windows, didn't work.
Both usb and physical media installation, didn't work.
Repaired disk and permissions, didn't work
Also tried creating the partition manually and then booting, still black screen.
I can't seem to find anyone mwith my specific problem. Everyone seem to get to the installations screen, the windows logo or have a blinking cursor. I have nothing, just a black screen.
The really weird part is, that I has worked before. I installed windows 2 years ago but maybe after I upgraded bootcamp or osx or something?
I have been searching for a solution for weeks now without luck.
I really don't know what to do anymore...
    Please help...
    Regards,
    Morten

A user at mac-forums suggested the following:
Backup OS X, wipe the HD, then copy OS X back, partition/resize the HD, either with bootcamp or DU and install Windows and Drivers.
By Backing up I mean, use Carbon Copy Cloner to make a bootable backup, when that is done you can start from the external bootable backup and erase the disk and then the above.
If you want to copy the Recovery Disk as well you need the newer version of CCC or do it manually, CCC if free up until 3.6.7 (But does not have the Recovery clone build in)
Unfortunately that didn't make any difference either..
