New Asa 5505... Anyway to set up behind home router with no internal DNS?
Since the home router is the DNS server, the Asa has no internal DNS which is probably the cause of no internet. Is there any way around this?
Can you not simply use the ASA as the DHCP server and include the DNS server in your DHCP configuration ?

RA VPN into ASA5505 behind C871 Router with one public IP address
Hello,
I have a network like below for testing remote access VPN to ASA5505 behind C871 router with one public IP address.
PC1 (with VPN client)----Internet-----Modem----C871------ASA5505------PC2
The public IP address is assigned to the outside interface of the C871. The C871 forwards incoming traffic UDP 500, 4500, and esp to the outside interface of the ASA that has a private IP address. The PC1 can establish a secure tunnel to the ASA. However, it is not able to ping or access PC2. PC2 is also not able to ping PC1. The PC1 encrypts packets to PC2 but the ASA does not to PC1. Maybe a NAT problem? I understand removing C871 and just use ASA makes VPN much simpler and easier, but I like to understand why it is not working with the current setup and learn how to troubleshoot and fix it. Here's the running config for the C871 and ASA. Thanks in advance for your help!C871:

I think, that you want control all outbound traffic from the LAN to the outside by ASA.
I suggest some modifications as shown below.

Cisco ASA 5505 VPN connection issue ("Unable to add route")
I'm trying to get IPSec VPN working onto a new Cisco ASA5505. Pretty standard configuration.
Setup:
* Cisco VPN client on Windows 7 (v5.0.07.0290 x64 on Laptop1 and v5.0.07.0440 x64 on Laptop2)
* PPPoE/NAT and internal DHCP on the ASA were configured with the Startup Wizard in ASDM
NATting is working fine - internal PCs get an IP address in the 192.168.2.0/24 range and can all access the Internet.
I wanted to be able to connect from anywhere to the ASA in order to reach one of the internal servers. Should be pretty basic.
First I tried with the built-in ASDM IPSec Wizard, instructions found here.
VPN clients can connect to the ASA, are connected (until they're manually disconnected), but cannot reach the internal network nor the Internet. Note VPN client can connect fine to a different VPN site (not administered by myself).
Client logs show following error messages:

I've already tried the suggestions from this link, although the problem is different there (as the user can still access the internet, even without split tunneling, which I cannot).
A show run shows the following output (note in the below I have tried a different VPN network: 192.168.3.0/24 instead of 172.16.1.0/24 seen in the Client log)
Result of the command: "sh run"

Unfortunately I'm getting the same "AddRoute failed to add a route with metric of 0: code 160" error message.
I'm very confused as this should be a pretty standard setup. I tried to follow the instructions on the Cisco site to the letter...
The only "differences" in my setup are an internal network of 192.168.2.0 (with ASA IP address 192.168.2.254) and PPPoE with DHCP instead of no PPPoE at all.
Does anyone know what's going on?Yes, I have tried from a different laptop - same results. Using that laptop I can connect to a different IPSec site without issues.

Help setting up small home network with PC and an imac!!!?
I have an imac in my room, and my mother has a JP PC in her room across the house. We have a router and modem on her computer(I connect to the internet through the router signal)
I just recently bought a new printer. It is a wifi printer. I was told by a friend that I need to setup a small netowrk so all the computers/printers in the house can talk to one another. Because right now my printer is installed and connected to the router signal (but my computer does not reconize it to print....)
I started a small network on my moms PC...but when I can't make a network CD like it tells me to because my computer is a Mac....how do I continue to setup this network?Can I set it up first on my mac as well???PLEASE HELP! I want to use my printer!You can just connect the WRT54G wireless router’s LAN port to BEFSR41 router’s LAN port by using a network cable as specified in this configuring wireless router as access point article, after that can connect other computers to that wireless router with or without cable. Finally do more test to check the performance. Hope it helps.

Problems setting up a WRT54G router with Vista
My husband upgraded to Windows Vista Home Basic over the weekend (we don't have the newest version! omg!angst!woe!). Today, I got a call that our DSL was turned on, I set up the modem, got the internet working, and attempted to set up the wireless router.
I have used the setup cd, the EasyLink program, and the directions to manually set up the router. I can get the router linked up properly, I can even log into the DSL modem through the router. The problem is that I can't get any of these setup programs to recognize the router. Even putting in http://192.168.1.1 brings up a "page cannot be loaded" error in both Firefox 2.0 and IE (however, when I remove the router, I can see the DSL modem fine with it). Is there some other way to get the wireless router set up, or do I need to wait for one of the two computers with XP to arrive (yay for moving with the military) to set up the router?Hi,
I too am having problems connecting the WRT54GS to my vista enabled pc. I have installed the software but since connecting everything my internet access is now diabolically slow. This is on the main wired machine, not wirelessly. The router is obvioulsy doing something inbetween (possibly the firewall) but this has made the speeds almost unbearable, negating the object of the new pc !!
Is there some settings I should eb checking ?
Many Thanks -
Controlling multiple Macs remotely behind a router with ARD
Greetings! My problem is that I cannot access more that one computer in ARD. I have ARD installed on my Macbook and the computers I want to control are at my parents house. Remote management and login are enabled of course but the router needs to be configured to forward ports 3283 and 5900. But as far as I know these ports can be forwarded for one local ip only meaning that I have to somehow change the default 3283 and 5900 to some other ports in order to access them.
So the question is, how can I change the default ports for remote management on os x snow leopard? Other than that, does ARD offer any other way to access multiple computers behind a router?
Many many thanks!In regards VPN, take a look at VPN-X from Birdssoft which is an easy to install and low-cost solution perfect for this purpose (among others).
Basically speaking, after having installed and configured VPN-X on your Mac and ONE remote Mac and opened the ports in the firewall you establish a connection between your and the remote network and gain complete access to the remote network.
Alternatively, you can use Teamviewer for giving support. -
How to set up a mail server with a private DNS and relay over a public mail
How to set up the mail server that we can send and pick up emails inside and outside?
Our private network has the DNS name dnsname1.private.
We have our privat DNS Server and he can forward requests to outside over our router.
Our public emails are hosted by an internet provider. This dns name is dnsname2.com and dnsname2.org.
How we have to set up our mail server that we can pick up our emails from our public dnsname2.com?
And when we write an email how we have to set up it that the dnsname is dansname2.com and not dnsname1.private?If you want to move your mailservice to your own (internal) server, start by making sure you can recieve traffic on port TCP 25 (SMTP). Some ISPs blocks this port, especially on "non business" connections.
Can you send mail from your LAN directly to where your mail is hosted using port 25 TCP or do you have to relay via your ISP?
You have a static public IP? -
I have an iMac and a macbook pro that I used to be able to share files between but ever since I moved 3 months ago I can't get it to work. Also, now my phone and my wife's phone are inseparably connected. She seems to be getting all of my text messages but I don't get hers. We also bought new computers right before we moved so that might have something to do with it. Both computers are on my account and have my name. Thanks in advance, it would be nice to get this working again - tired of walking ten feet with a flash drive to share files : )
The following may help with the file sharing issues: OS X Mavericks: Share your files

Setting Priority Of A Thread With An Internal Runnable
Im creating a few thread using the technique of embedding the actual runnable within the Threads constructor like below:
new Thread(new Runnable()
public void run()
long start_t1 = System.currentTimeMillis();
bruteforce();
long finished_t1 = System.currentTimeMillis();
timetaken_t1 = (finished_t1 - start_t1);
t1_finished = true;
if(finished())scoreBoard();
).start();the problem im having is that I want to assign priorities to these threads. The two usual techniques:
Threadname.MIN_PRIORITY
or
Threadname.setPriority(5);
Won't work because in this technique you cannot assign the thread a name like
Thread t = new Thread(new Runnable() ....Should I not be able to use this.setPriority(5) or this.MIN_PRIORITY? They don't seem to be working for me, however maybe im placing them in the wrong place.
Any help would be great, Im really stuck for time on this one!Above should work, or if you want you could just assign a variable to the thread.
final Thread t = {...}And use t call the thread methods. -

WRT600N problems setting up a home net with PDAs
Good afternoon,
I've just bought a WRT600N and I'm having problems to configure.
Network configuration: 4 computer wire connected;1 laptop and 2 PDAs (Ipaq hx47000 & Ipaq hx2490b);
OS: Windows XP Proffesional and PDAs Windows Mobile 5.
Internet cable connection.
Security at 2.4Ghz. WPA-personal + TKIP and MAC filter enabled.
No activity expected at 5 Ghz.
Problems:
- I can't connect PDAs to Internet. Only able to connect but with some difficulties (sometimes loose connection) and always have NO Internet access.
- I can't see network places from laptop or PDAs.
- I can't access to web based utility from computers only from laptop.
Steps alrady done:
- IP reserved for each PDA' MAC address..
- QoS disabled.
- Beacon interval increased to 800.
Could anyone help me to fix it?. Thanks in advance.I looked through the User Guide for both of your PDA's. There is no mention that they support WPA encryption. They User Guide says that they only support WEP encryption.
Unless HP (or Microsoft Windows Mobile) has released some new wireless drivers for your PDA's, it looks like they won't do WPA.
If you believe that you have the WPA drivers, then I would suggest that you first connect your PDAs using no encryption and no MAC address filtering. If this works, then turn on only the WPA encryption. If this works, try the MAC address filtering.

Setting up bt home hub with airport extreme and timecapsule
Hi I am running BT Broadband direct into a BT Home Hub (Black version) then ethernet into an airport extreme.
Timecapsule then extending the apple network and an iMac ethernet into the timecapsule
Various other macbooks, iPhones,iPads, iPods and apple tv wirelessly linked in. (and an hp multifunction printer)
The network seems very slow and unstable - any suggestions on how to tune it?
Thanks
NigelIntroducing wireless repeater or bridge causes double hopping wireless. It greatly reduces speed and efficiency of wireless. I am not 100% sure I understand your arrangement. But there are limited wireless channels and the result of many wireless devices fighting each other is bad.
1. Do you have wireless turned off in the Home Hub? Please do unless it is providing important connections.
2. What mode is the AEBS running in? Because with BT you must use the home hub as a router, you should have the AEBS bridged. Is that the case?
3. Wireless extending networking adds issues as stated. Get rid of this. The best method is to link the TC and AEBS by alternative.. ie ethernet is the best by huge margin. If you cannot do this in your house then use EOP adapters. They are not foolproof but if they work, they keep working with reliability and stabilty and speed that wireless cannot match. You can then run the AEBS and TC as roaming WAP, by using different channels but same SSID (wireless name), and security settings and passwords. -

: endHello Wayne,
Can you use a different subnet range than the internal interface, this could cause you a LOT of issues and hours on troubleshooting, so use a dedicated different Ip address range...
I can see that the local Pool range is included into the inside interface Ip address subnet range, change that and the related config ( NAT,etc, ) and let us know what happens,
Regards,
Julio

DNS Server problems with ASA 5505
Hi guys,
we setup a new ASA 5505 which is mainly used as our VPN gateway. The ASA is configured and controlled by our ISP (and this is where the problem starts )) and they somehow cannot manage to get the VPN settings really working.
So, here is our problem.
our machines(Windows 7) are configured to get the network settings through DHCP (Windows 2012 Server).
Before I connect with AnyConnect to our VPN gateway, the DNS Server setting in the network settings for the adapters(IPv4) are set to 'dynamic'
When I now connect, this setting is changes to a statc entry (which is our DNS server).
When disconnecting, it is not reverted back, which means I have to do this always manually.
What I do not understand is the fact, that the DNS server is set for all the adapters, shouldtn't it be only set to the anyconnect adapter?.
The interesting thing is, that when I connect to a different ASA, this does not happen. The ISP is now saying, that the machines are configured exactly the same and that they cannot reproduce, but I can't believe this.
This issue shows up at every machine which connects to our vpn, so it is not only a single machine which might be misconfigured.
Do you have any idea what might cause this issue?
btw, the second ASA (which works) is from our partner company, so we cannot simply copy the config
THanks in advance
PatrickNice to see someone from BT has addressed your issue
I have this exact same problem, seems completely bizarre, I'm pretty sure I had the same problem with the original home hub (i have the latest one now). Can you confirm whether the problem does affect anyone with a bt home hub and not just the one that the dyndns is pointing at? I'll try and confirm by hitting your domain from my home connection. -
Problems with basic config ASA 5505
new ASA 5505, tying to configure it, inside LAN is 192.168.2.x/23 (255.255.254.0). I connect to ASA5505 using ASDM ok when it is on the default 192.168.1.1. I change the ip on 'inside' vlan, and of course lose connection to it. It apparently doesn't totally save the info, though, because I can't connect to it using the new info. So, I made a vlan3, using port 0/2, using ip of 192.168.2.x/23 while connected to 192.168.1.1. Then I changed ip of my computer from 192.168.1.x to 192.168.2.x/23 but cannot even ping that port/ip on the ASA while connected to port 0/2. I switched computer back, and connected again to 192.168.1.1 and it does appear that my new settings for 0/2 are still there, so I'm not sure how to proceed? Thanks.
Sorry, had family emergency and was off for 2 weeks, then when came back had other work to catch up on.
Thanks for the reply. It would appear that the command you provided sets it back to default settings. I was able to set it back to default settings, but am now unsure as how to proceed to get the "inside" set to 192.168.2.0/23 and still be able to access it.
If I go back in, I can change "inside" to 192.168.2.1/23, but lose connection, so it "sort of" gets saved, in the respect that sometimes I can ping it, sometimes not. But can never connect to it.
Thanks, and sorry again about the delay.
