hiya!
if you're going to be keeping both PCs, and managing the ipod from both of them, these resources might be helpful:

how to put songs in ipod shuffle

This document describes the ways to put music on a shuffle (and also shows the four shuffle models)
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1719
If the shuffle is the current 4th gen (or 3rd gen), here is one convenient way to do it.
Create a new playlist in your iTunes library, and put all of the songs you want on the shuffle on that playlist.  (Or you can use an existing playlist.)  Back on the shuffle's Music screen in iTunes, check the checkbox forSync Music.  Choose the option to sync Selected playlists, artists, albums, and genres.  Below that, find that playlist under Playlists and select (checkmark) it.  You can select other items on those lists if desired, including other playlists.
When you click Apply, the songs in your selection(s) sync to the shuffle.  Going forward, to update the shuffle's songs, just update that playlist in your iTunes library (add/remove songs).  The shuffle does not need to be connected.  The next time you connect the shuffle (or click Sync if already connected), iTunes automatically updates the shuffle with the same changes.

  • Cannot download songs to ipod from my itunes library

I am new to this! After purchasing my shiny new ipod nano 4 days ago I successfully installed itunes and ipod on my windows XP. I purchased 26 songs and successfully updated ipod. Last night I purchased 10 more songs, updated and attempted to back up the library on a CD. Here is where I really screwed up...I did not disconnect ipod from my computer. I was told I was not authorized to burn a CD. I then went to a program on the computer that was already present (I think it is called realplay) and attempted to transfer my files in to that library and burn a CD with that program. Well, this seemed to occur but still I could not burn a CD. I think this did somthing to my itunes library. Why? Well, the computer completely froze. After about 45 minutes of attempting to restart my computer etc, I shut down the computer completely and then disconnected ipod. I rebooted and the computer was running fine but all of my music was erased from ipod. However, my itunes library seems intact. I attempted to update the ipod again starting over and nothing will transfer to ipod. I did the "R"s and it still not updating.
I thought perhaps the "other" program was blocking the process so I want back and follwed directions to have "realplayer" recognize ipod and transfer songs from there...no go.
I don't know if I have changed the file formats and ipod doesn't recognize them or if everything is corrupted. As you can probably tell I am fairly computer illiterate...all I want to do is work out to my playlist.
Any ideas about what is going on?

  • Unable to put songs on Ipod

    Hello,
I have a Ipod Nano I think its the 5th generation. Anyways, I originally set it up with my laptop but since my laptop got stolen I got a new laptop and it wont let me put songs on my ipod. I clicked to "authorize computer" but that doesnt work. I get a black circle with a line across not allowing me to put songs on there. I have songs in my Itunes but it wont put them on my ipod...please help!!!

As to how to get rid of the exclamation marks, I would locate all of the music into one or tow easy to find files. In iTunes go to File...Inport. Then, browse for your folders and open them. iTunes should put them back into the iTunes Library folder. You should be able to relocate this folder on your ext. drive. It should be located in a folder called "My music" with a subfolder called "iTunes Music".
As to how to delete all of the duplicate music. I think (but not sure) that iTunes will only load one copy into the music folder.
    Hope this helps.

  • Can i turn off the computer which songs are transferring from

i am currently transeffering songs, via homesharing, from an old computer to a new one, i have selected all the songs i want to be importe ad and theyre currently being imported, but there are many more songs whic remain to be imported. My question is can the old computer now be turned off or can it only be turned off once all the songs have been imported?

This can easily be done using a Hot Corner. Bt for this to work, you should set the computer to Never Sleep.
To Setup a Hot Corner to put the screen to sleep:
    1. Open your System Preferences.
    2. Click on Desktop and Screen Saver
    3. On the top you will see 2 tabs Click on the one that says Screen Saver.
    4. On the bottom of the Screen Saver Window click on Hot Corners.
    5. Hold down the Control Key and click on one of the 4 screen corners
    6. Continue holding down the Control Key and then select Put Display To Sleep.
You shoudl see something like this.
Click on OK and quit the System Prefs.
Now whenever you want to run a process and have the screen off, just hold down the control key and move the mouse to the corner you designated.  The screen will turn off and your process will continue.
Don't forget though that you should set your sleep prefs to Never otherwise your Mac may go to sleep before your calculations are done.

  • Still won't let me put songs on iPod because I'm "unauthorized"

I did what I was told to do; go and authorize the new computer, but it is still coming up with the error message that "items could not be copied to the iPod because you are not authorize to play them on this computer."

If you right-click on one of the files that don't play and choose 'Get Info', it should show somewhere in the list what account the song was purchased from. If it is a different ID/email address, try authorizing that address too.

  • Putting songs on ipod back to itunes program

I am trying to get the songs from my ipod playlists back onto itunes. can someone please help me with this as I can't get it to work.
    Many thanks

As Juan-Carlos has already said there are some there are a number of third party utilities you can use to retrieve the files from your iPod. This is just a further selection.
    YamiPod
    PodPlayer
    iPodAgent
    iPodCopy
There is also a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive posted in this thread: iPod to iTunes
You may already be using the iPod in manual update mode but just for anyone who may be starting with one set to automatically update:
If your iPod was set for automatic update change it to manual update. While connecting the iPod to the computer, hold down the Shift + Ctrl keys (For anyone on a Mac, hold down Option and Command ⌥ and ⌘). This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes and the iPod will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. This may take between 3 and 30 seconds depending on your computer. Then go to Preferences>iPod and check the "Manually manage songs and playlists" box.
Keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync again.
Another way is to connect your iPod and before it starts to sync, click the little X on the right hand side of the display beside the "Do Not Disconnect" message. The display is the little window to the right of the iTunes control buttons: iPod Interface
Or you could look at the method described in this link: How to keep iTunes from automatically updating your iPod
Go with whichever method you feel most comfortable. If at any point you are asked if you want to link your iPod to a new library, click No.

  • Cannot transfer songs to iPod from iTunes.

Please help. I can download songs to my iTunes but the iPod will not update when plugged in. It tells me that it has but when I go to my iPod the songs are not there. I have 3 cds that I have recently downloaded that will not upload to my iPod. Everytime I plug my pod into the computer it tells me that it is updating these 3 albums onto the pod but it doesn't. I tried several times and I got the same thing everytime. Looking at my songs on my iPod from my iTunes it shows these albums are there and play from iTunes but when I try searching from the actual iPod they are not. Oh and everything is updated and I have "Automatically update all songs and playlists" button selected in my ipod options!

I have the SAME problem. "Updates successful" message followed by missing songs on the iPod and next update attempting to transfer these songs all over again. Tried everything, including "strange iPod behavior" suggestions to no avail. This has started since the January installation of the new iPod Updater.
    Please help.....

  • How do I find an audio file that I put on an iPod from a non-iTunes software?

I'm talking about on the iPod itself, not looking at the folders when it is connected to the computer.
I've put some audio files, podcasts and songs, that transfered from a non-iTunes podcast aggregator and songs that weren't in my iTunes library, but could not find them on the actual iPod device.  This, despite the files showing up on the device when looking at a list of files on computer screen once I connect to a computer.
Asked this a few times now, and never got an answer.  Does anyone know what I am doing wrong here?

    - Only iTunes purchases will copy from iPod to computer.
    - If you sync manually and do not specify those modified songs to sync they will not sync to the iPod nor will the original version be deleted from the iPod
    - If you sync automatically and include those songs or select the modified songs to sync manually, the songs in the iPod should be replaced with the modified songs. However sometimes that does not happen

  • ITunes detects iPod...but doesn't put songs on iPod??

The songs won't update on my iPod...I googled and it said theres somewhere in iTunes where I can check "Automatically update songs on my iPod"....but I can't find it? Help?

Yes, I meant to post back earlier. Here's something else that we can try:
Under "Music" deselect the "Sync" option so as to manually manage your iPod's content, then click on the "Apply" button in the right-corner of the iTunes screen to save your changes.
Now, eject/disconnect your iPod from your computer.
Connect it again, and check to make sure that your changes were saved, then select the "Sync" option again (and deselect "Manually manage songs and videos" under the "Summary" tab), and click Apply.
Click on "Sync iPod" from the File menu if iTunes doesn't begin to start automatically syncing with your iPod.
After iTunes has auto synced all of the content to your iPod, be sure to eject your iPod from your computer if the iPod still says "Do Not Disconnect" after it has completed with syncing (that's usually because Disk Use is enabled). Then, disconnect it, and see if the music has sucessfully synced to the iPod or not.

  • Unable to load songs onto Ipod from Intel Imac

I am unable to unload songs onto my 5th gen ipod from my Intel Imac. No amount of troubleshooting has helped so far; SMC, restore, swapping usb ports, swapping cables, PRAM, etc.
I can, however, load songs onto the ipod from my 6 yr old Tibook. This leads me to believe my Imac has a usb port problem, unless somehow my ipod is at the root of this issue?
The tibook's usb is 1.1, not 2.0, which makes for verrry loonngg load times and I woould much rather be able to load from my Imac.
Has anybody else encountered anything like this before?
Of course my Imac and my ipod are out of warranty - if my Imac (or my Ipod) are in need of repair, can anybody recommend or anti-recommend good repair services, preferably in the Seattle area?
    please and thanks,
    dt

Yes, Itunes starts up, no dialog boxes at first but I can anticipate soon getting a whirling beachball of death oftentimes just by plugging in the ipod, definitely if and when I try to load any songs onto it.
I often eventually get a dialog box to the tune of ipod could not be loaded to for unknown reasons 1435. Thats the only one I remember right now, though it seems I have gotten slight variations on this theme.
The ipod appears both in itunes and the desktop, although if itunes freezes I cannot see the whole desktop to confirm at all times. Yes, the ipod does appear in the system profiler under usb.
Eventually the entire computer will be taken over by the wbbod, forcing a hard re-boot.
    please and thanks,
    dt

To add to Niel's comment bear in mind that if you have a backup copy on an external HD and later delete the orignals on your Mac HD you will then only have one copy - so no backup.
If the pictures are precious you should have at least two copies, and ideally another copy kept off site,
