New Epson 1280 driver with Tiger?

Hi All,
I just installed Tiger and when I print from classic applications, (Illustrator, Photoshop) I now have a new print window that opens. I no longer have the ability to choose borderless printing for example. There seem to be fewer printing options overall. Am I just missing something obvious? How can get the old options back? My printer is an Epson Stylus Photo 1280. I think If I boot into the old OS (10.2.8 on another volume) everything is fine like before I installed Tiger. Before Tiger, I was using 10.2.8 and I did download and install the driver from Epson...

This file contains the Epson Stylus Photo 1280 Printer Driver (Printer Driver v7.1bA, Core Driver Disk v7.15A). This driver includes a new user interface and optimizes printer output resolution.
This installer places a folder on your desktop labeled "epson11268".
1. Open the epson11268 folder.
2. Double-click the installer icon.
3. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.
This file is for use with Macintosh OS 8.51 - 9.2.2
Thanks, Jim

Jim,
There is indeed something new in Tiger. The default way to print is through the OS X printers. This was previously not available in previous versions of OS X.
You can do one of two things. First, you can still use the OS 9.x printer. You will need to go to the Chooser and select it. You should then get the normal OS 9.x Epson dialog box.
The second way to do it is to use the OS X printers. It is most likely that you have not added all the options in OS X for the Epson 1280. Epson adds a printer in OS X for each of its printer options. In other words, there will be a separate printer for minimum margins and yet another printer for borderless printing. You need to add these extra printers in OS X. Here's how to do it:
1. Open the Printer Setup Utility (/Applications/Utilities).
2. At the top of the window there should be an icon to Add printers. Click on the Add icon. You could also choose Add from the Printers menu.
3. In the Printer Browser window that opens, highlight your printer.
4. Let the system search for drivers. You will know when it is done. Items that were initially grayed out will now be active.
5. Click on More Printers button at the bottom. (Tiger only)
6. In the resulting pane, select Epson USB or Epson FireWire depending on you connection. The system will again search for new drivers.
7. Highlight you printer in the window. You should now see a new pop up menu available at the bottom of the pane called "Page Setup".
8. Use the Page Setup menu to add the printer configurations that you want. You can either add them all in one step or add one at a time choosing only those you want to use.
NOTE: If you select the All option, Printer Setup Utility will take its own sweet time about adding all the printers. Be patient.
Hope this helps.

  • Create a new bootable hard drive with XP - without CD reader

    All,
Since couple of years my Satellite CD reader is dead. Most probably an hardware failure, the CDs are spinning but that's all ... unbale to read them at all.
As the PC is getting slower and slower, I decided to refomat and re_image it.
As I can't use the CD reader, I have to create the bootable hard drive (with the XP-Home edition provided when I bought the laptop)  using another machine (A DELL or a Toshiba Portege I have also at home).
For that I remove the hard drive fro, the satellite and put it in the other machine, and then reinstall windows ont it.
Everything went fine,  untilI plug back the satellite hard drive to its original host (Satellite machine.
It refuse to boot and stop just after loading the MUP.Sys drivers  (classique as the hardware is diffrent)
       My questions are :
       1. Any way I can create a proper bootable drive for Satellite 5105-S501 in such conditions (any place I can download  an image for it)
       2. I can' enter the BIOS (ESC key do not let me in, F1 and F12 same ...). Any way to force to enter in the BIOS
ESC key just show me the message : Type F1 for default :_°
    Thanks

Thanks so much for replying to my question! I am new to MAC and have Tiger and Windows XP on separate drives. I will be removing the drive with Tiger and putting in a new drive to load Leopard and I wondered how that would effect accessing Windows XP since the Windows drive will remain in the system. Is there anything I need to do with bootcamp, since Windows was loaded using the Beta version of bootcamp, and bootcamp icon currently shows in the Windows XP taskbar. Tiger was pre-loaded when the computer was purchased. In fact I had to backdate the beta bootcamp version in order to get it to work. I hope this is not asking too much, but I wondered if there would any problem with Windows after the Leopard load.

  • Can Leopard partition a backup drive with Tiger on it?

I am going to be upgrading tp 10.5.4 on my main HD. I've cloned my whole 10.4.9 system to a 2nd internal drive a while back, but did not create a small partition for a SuperDuper Sandbox at that time. To save myself the time it will take to format the backup drive, partition it, then reclone my Tiger system can I...once I successfully upgrade to Leopard, use Leo to put a small partition on my backup HD, with Tiger on it, WITHOUT erasing the backup drive?

    Karen,
First, and just to clarify things, your drive is already partitioned. It just has a single partition. In the "Partition" tab of Leopard's Disk Utility, you'll see a graphical representation of that partition (just as you would in earlier versions of Disk Utility). The difference is that there will appear a re-sizing "grab tab" at the bottom-right of the icon that represents your current partition (it looks just like the "grab tab" at bottom-right of any application window).
If we are simply re-partitioning a drive, we can choose a new partition scheme using the appropriate pull-down menu, and that scheme will be reflected in the graphical representation (showing however many volumes, aka "partitions" we choose), and they can be adjusted for size. At some point, we would click "Apply" to begin re-partitioning according to our settings. In this scenario, any and all data on the drive would be destroyed.
In your case, however, you'll be dynamically adding a partition to a "live" drive. You'll start by using the "grab tab" to make the one existing volume smaller, by however much space you want to allocate to the volume you'll add. Next, you'll use another new feature in Leopard's "partition" pane, the "+" button below the representation. This adds a new volume in the unallocated space you will have provided by making the first volume smaller. Click the "Apply" button, and your changes will be written to the drive (cross your fingers). Provided all works as intended, whatever data exists on the first volume will not be affected.
With 121 GBs free, you can theoretically create a second volume of 121 GBs. However, I wouldn't expect this to happen in practice. Some of that 121 GBs of free space will actually exist "in the spaces" between the data/files already written to the drive. How much of your free space exists in this state depends entirely on how you have been using the drive, for how long, and the file sizes involved. If, for example, you have ever filled the current single volume entirely, it is likely that some files reside near the end of the drive, with almost all of your free space "in the middle." In this case, Disk Utility will balk at allowing you to make that volume smaller.
Since you have recently "cloned" Tiger to this drive, it is reasonable to assume this won't be the case for you (the drive was probably erased at the time, right?). So, I think you have a good chance of success. And, since you have everything backed up on optical media, convenience will be the issue, not data security.

  • Using Epson Perfection 2480 with Tiger and USB 2.0 Macs

Actually I couldn't reply to an older post, since it was archived:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=959762
So I tought to simply drop some info here about a few findings I had in the last few minutes.
Downloading and installing driver version 2.65 cured this (avoid the newer 2.77 driver; Epson says 2.65 is for OS9, but I have it here running on a Intel Mac). This will install the Epson Monitor software. Now that's a first trick: make sure all accounts in the computer have that on the login items for that account, that has to start as soon as the computer starts. Install the older Epson software even if you plan to use your scanner with Vuescan or Image Capture, for example.
After that, I still had the same problem here, but it was only on the machine with USB 2.0.
Switching the scanner to the keyboard USB plug (1.1) solved the problem. Maybe an older hub could do the trick if you have, let's say, a wireless keyboard.
    Good luck,
    Gui

  • Can I reformat and partition a new internal hard drive with the Snow Leopard disk?

I'm planning on installing a new internal hard drive in my 15'' Macbook Pro. Can I format and partition the new drive with the Snow Leopard disk or is it just an upgrade from Leopard? Thanks much.

You should be able to do that.

  • Can I replace my new hard disk drive with my old one???

I recently bought a new Macbook Pro 13' (mid 2012) and I wonder if I can put inside the hard disk (SSD) from my old Macbook Pro 13' (mid 2010)

The hard drive itself should work. The only thing to be aware of is the operating system on the previous MacBook Pro. If it's older than the version your new MacBook Pro came with it may not run.

  • Brand New Internal Hard Drive with "disk0s2: I/O error" (iMac 2007/10.6.8)

    Hello,
I have a 2007 iMac 21" Aluminum running 10.6.8 with 4GB RAM. Two years ago I had a 2TB Western Digital drive installed, which ran fine until about two weeks ago. The performance of my iMac went down hill fast. At first I didn't suspect the drive but, finally, Disk Utility did start showing errors (including the disk0s2: I/O error).
Today I had an authorized Apple service center remove the drive and replace it with a brand new 2TB drive (a Toshiba, if you're curious). Tonight I booted up and noticed some sluggishness. So I rebooted in safe-mode (holding down the shift key), disabled a few auto-start apps I had, and rebooted. Problem solved.
Now, the computer is performing fine it seems, but I have a (free) menu bar app installed called SMARTreporter version 2.7.3. Since booting it has thrown several disk0s2: I/O errors. Excerpt:
    Aug  2 21:45:17 localhost kernel[0]: disk0s2: I/O error.
    Aug  2 21:45:47 localhost kernel[0]: disk0s2: I/O error.
    Aug  2 21:46:25 localhost kernel[0]: disk0s2: I/O error.
    Aug  2 21:49:45 localhost kernel[0]: disk0s2: I/O error.
    Aug  2 21:50:51 localhost kernel[0]: disk0s2: I/O error.
    Aug  2 21:52:27 localhost kernel[0]: disk0s2: I/O error.
    Aug  2 21:53:52 localhost kernel[0]: disk0s2: I/O error.
    Aug  2 21:54:45 localhost kernel[0]: disk0s2: I/O error.
    Aug  2 21:57:41 localhost kernel[0]: disk0s2: I/O error.
    Aug  2 22:00:14 localhost kernel[0]: disk0s2: I/O error.
    Aug  2 22:13:05 localhost kernel[0]: disk0s2: I/O error.
    Aug  2 22:14:28 localhost kernel[0]: disk0s2: I/O error.
    Aug  2 22:15:56 localhost kernel[0]: disk0s2: I/O error.
    Aug  2 22:17:16 localhost kernel[0]: disk0s2: I/O error.
    Aug  2 22:20:06 localhost kernel[0]: disk0s2: I/O error.
    Aug  2 22:22:38 localhost kernel[0]: disk0s2: I/O error.
I will add that I noticed these errors after I work the iMac from sleep and got one or two more after I work it from sleep. But it's been several minutes since I got another notice from SMARTreporter (which uses growl notices, which is nice). The last line shown above is the last diskOs2 error I've seen in the past 45 min. or so.
I know it's possible to get a bad drive, so I haven't ruled that out. I'm just surprised if that's indeed the case. But I want to make sure I know what's going on, and any help would be appreciated.
    Thank you.

    UPDATE...
I took it into a different authorized Apple reseller/tech (Mac Authority Nashville) and they did a diagnostic on the spot, indicating that the drive was OK. They suggested it was probably a loose cable.
I took it back to the other place and they took time to disassemble it again and check the cables. The cables were fine (they showed me pics on their iPad - nice touch since I couldn't go back in the back). They suspected it could be corrupted data and that I should eliminate that possibility before dropping another $100 on it to find out what the issue is -- especially since it's six years old (this weekend, in fact. I chuckled when Apple said that it's now classified as a "vintage" machine).
Now I have re-installed Snow Leopard and have run all the updates. (Before installing the OS from DVD I ran Disk Utility and everything checked out fine.)
I also ran an app called EtreCheck and it identified some launch agents for apps I deleted long ago. I cleaned up some old files (verrrrrry judiciously) there and restarted.
So far my iMac has been running 3+ hours without a hint of problems or performance issues, so I'm encouraged that the problem is apparently fixed (if I have more trouble, I'll come back to this thread with another update). Appaently I just spent money on a hard drive I apparently didn't need. (Time for a SATA case so I can have a new external back-up...)
    LESSON:
It doesn't hurt, usually, to start with reinstalling the OS when serious performance issues arise.

I can't seem to reproduce the issue. It's working fine atm. Is the drive a dud? Are there some tools I can use to check this drive? Is there a better (more reliable) file system configuration?

I would have done all write+verify passes of badblocks and check the smart status before putting the drive to use. That said, it might be that the drive might needs some quirks to work without problems. On another note, so far my experience with Samsung disks (rotational media) has been bad, personally if I can avoid their drives I will.
Also make sure that nothing is trying to get the smart status of the drive while you are actively reading or writing, I have found that to be a sure recipe for data loss with the Samsung drives I have dealt with so far. Things may be different now, but I have been burned enough before.

I have a new Epson CV16DTNF printer (with Multipurpose Tray 1 and additional bulk feed Tray2).
I have set up presets in the normal way for A4 printing from bulk Tray 2 and DL envelope printing from Tray 1.
Each works OK individually but if I try to print A4 straight after an envelope, the Tray 2 paper feed setting is lost (reverts to Autoselect -Tray 1) and the printer starts printing A4 on envelopes!

  • Epson Printer Driver v8.31 not showing up on my OSX 10.4.11

When installing a new Epson Printer Driver v8.31 for my Workforce 630 all-in-one printer on my G5 OSX 10.4.11 Power MAC, along with Epson support on the phone, it is not showing up in my Utilities folder. Epson said I needed to contact MAC about changing some settings. The printer was working fine yesterday but not printing today .... like it wasn't there. After trying several things with Epson Support they said I should download the new driver and, as I said, with their guidance it wasn't showing up in my Utilities Folder. When I called MAC Support they referred me here to avoid paying $50 for their support. Any ideas?

Whew, Could be many things, we should start with this...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair Disk, (not Repair Permissions). Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
If perchance you can't find your install Disc, at least try it from the Safe Boot part onward.
Then remove the instance of the old one & try adding again.

  • MBP HD Loaded with Tiger work in MB?

I am about to upgrade the HD in my MBP, and have a friend who needs a new drive for his MB. Does anyone know if I was to format my old drive and re-install Tiger on my MPB, if that drive with Tiger would work in a MB, or would there be issues due to hardware differences in the two systems?

I would suggest formatting the drive that you take out to put in the MacBook. The friend/MacBook owner should then install his Tiger and files onto it.
A method: 1. Clone MacBook current drive to an external drive.
    2. Install and format new drive (that is actually your old one).
    3. Move cloned drive info from external to the new/used internal.
