New file or folder appears way, way, way down

When I save a new file or make a folder from within an application and then go to the file in the finder, I find it has been created way way way down at the bottom of the enclosing folder which has been made really huge, as if its about 1 meter long. I have to scroll all the way to the bottom of this "1 meter long" otherwise empty folder to find the file.
If I make another file in the same folder it's created "1 meter" below the first one. If an app automatically makes a few files in a folder then the folder gets to biblical proportions.
Sorry it's a bit difficult to explain; I'm talking purely about how all this appears on screen, not data sizes.
Its quite annoying. Can any one suggest a reason and/or fix? I have fixed privileges and I have used Onyx to delete OS X cache files as far as I dare.

Log back into your normal user account:
Here's the whole litany for thoroughly checking your home folder. It's not as daunting as it looks.
1. Navigate to ~(YourHome/Library/Fonts - drag this folder to the desktop.
• Restart and test your applications.
• If they work start adding the fonts back few at a time.
( Likely suspects are Times RO & Helvetica Fractions, also if you do not use Classic you can trash the classic fonts.)
2. Check Preferences Thoroughly;
• Navigate to ~(YourHome/Library/Preferences drag this folder to the desktop.
• Restart and test your applications.
• If this works, save the old preferences folder somewhere else or on disk, name it "old prefs" .
** Note: A very important file is the "com.apple.Mail.plist" preference file located in the Preferences folder which contains all email account settings and general mail preferences (hold this one and replace if your problem is not with Mail).
You'll have to go through some of your System Preferences and apps to set the preferences back to how you like them. (Or if you have the time and inclination, "cherry pick" through until you find the problem one or two.)
3. Check Permissions Inside Home Folder
• Navigate to YourHome/Library.
• Get Info (Command - i) on folders for apps you are having problems with.
• Open the "Ownership & permissions" disclosure triangle.
• Make sure you are the owner, with "read and write" access.
• Click on "apply to all"
• If this is correct, open the "Applications Support" folder and do the same procedure (Command+I) for the folders with the names of the applications you are having trouble with.
Note:
The reason to check this is because repairing permissions with Disk Utility doesn't touch permissions inside your home folder.
4. Navigate to YourHome/Library/Caches and drag this folder to the trash, then log out and back or restart. There is no need to replace this folder.

How do I change the default save location for new files in Pages back from iCloud to my Documents folder?

I just upgraded OSX to Mountain Lion and Pages to 4.2, and because OSX is syncing with my iCloud account, when I go to save a new file in Pages it defaults to try to save to my iCloud account rather than giving me the folder structure on my hard-drive that I prefer. It requires two extra steps to save to the proper place in my Documents folder on my hard drive.
Is there a way to reset the default so that when I go to save a new file, the folder structure opens to the last saved folder (like it does in other non-iCloud applications) rather than defaulting to my iCloud, and to do it without just removing documents from my iCloud account entirely?
I checked the Preferences for both Pages and iCloud and found nothing about this.

What I meant is turn off Documents and Data in iCloud in OS X. Keep it on on your iOS devices. iCloud will sync documents between the iOS devices and make them available on the iCloud web site, but it won't mess up iWorks' open and save dialog boxes. It also won't assume that you want all your documents in iCloud, which I think is undesirable anyway.
Keep iOS and OS X separate, and use the web site to move files between the two as necessary.
iOS iWork is different from OS X iWork. There are fewer fonts on an iOS device. iOS iWork programs have slightly different feature sets than OS X iWork programs, and the file formats are different. iCloud automatically converts the file format when necessary, but if you make a habit of saving things directly to iCloud, you are limited to the lowest common denominator between the two versions of iWorks. So why would anyone want iWork on the Mac to open and save documents on iCloud by default?
If you want to store files in the cloud and sync them on your Macs, SugarSync is a much better solution. It lets you choose your sync folders, it doesn't make you reorganize your files, it lets you sync all file types, it doesn't convert files to a different format and back, and it stores everything in the cloud, too. Just the simle act of saving a file backs it up and syncs it. I wouldn't live without it. iCloud is best with iTunes purchases and synchronizing Mac settings and iOS files; I woudln't live without it. The two make an unbeatable combination.

File Sharing Permissions Problem When NEW Files Created

My wife & I have a home office network setup for our business, and are having trouble with shared files over the network. We're both on Macs, and all of our client files reside on an internal hard drive in my Mac Pro. I've set her up as a "Sharing Only" user on my computer (which matches the username & password of her account on her iMac), and have properly setup file sharing in both the System Preferences, and in the directory itself that we want shared. I've also applied the permissions to all files & folders below the main folder, and she can view, open and save whatever she needs and it works great.
*Here's where the problem comes in...* If either of us create a NEW file or folder, the other person doesn't have WRITE access to it (we can browse and open it fine). The second I go to update a file she created, it won't let me over-write it, and I have to go into the permissions for that specific file and give myself Read/Write access. I've experimented with "Groups", and assigned both of us a special group, and applied that group access to that directory, but it doesn't make any difference when a NEW file or folder is created - it doesn't copy the parent directory permissions to itself, it makes one of us the owner, and nobody else has access.
Is there any way around this? We're both constantly creating new files, and it really hampers our workflow to have to keep re-applying file permissions every time one of us creates something new. Ideally, any new files created within that main client folder would automatically have the same permissions as the parent directory. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!!

Here's how to do this with Access Control Lists.
1) Go to System Preferences -> Accounts. Unlock the padlock. Click the + button. Make a new group. Call this group "sharing" for the purposes of this exercise. Add the users you want to the group.
2) Make a new empty folder in /Users/Shared. Call it "sharefolder".
3) Log in to an admin account and paste all three of these lines at once into Terminal:
sudo chmod +a "sharing allow delete,chown,list,search,add_file,\
addsubdirectory,delete_child,file_inherit,directoryinherit" \
/Users/Shared/sharefolder
4) From now on, any files you create or copy to the sharefolder or to any of its subfolders will inherit read+write permission for all users in the group. If you have any existing files that you want to move into the sharefolder, a simple move by drag & drop won't cause the permissions to propagate. you need to hold down the option key while dragging them in. This will copy them over, ensuring that the ACL permission is properly inherited.
One other caveat: Files created by a small number of OS X apps won't inherit the permissions properly if saved directly into the ACL folder hierarchy. TextEdit is one such app. Save TextEdit files in a temporary location first, and then copy them in. Then they will have the correct permissions.

Having no hands-off (or even cursorless) solution is a real problem. You might export just the music-laden presentation as a high-res full-screen QT movie, and embed that as a full-slide video on the first slide of the "second" presentation. Or, if the presentation will loop continuously, a better solution might be to export both the Keynote presentation and the soundtrack into iMovie, edit the video to the audio, and create a Quicktime movie.
You might also be able to cobble something together in Applescript that automatically runs the second presentation when the first finishes, and keeps looping until stopped.
As for the black between presentations, I'm not sure there's a good answer for that within Keynote, at least not one that isn't terribly cumbersome (such as running two copies of Keynote and switching between them again using Applescript). Again, exporting one of the presentations as a movie that runs on a single slide of the other would solve this.

File Name not set when creating new file in EP 6.0 SPS20

Hi,
We recently upgraded from EP6 SP15 to SP20. Now when I create a new file or folder in a KM folder, the name that I give for the resource is not taken into account. The display name of the newly created resource will be New Text or New HTML Document or New Folder, etc. Even if I open the Properties and change it there, it is not getting reflected. But if I select Rename from the Context menu and give a new name, it gets set. What could be the problem?

the PDF referred to mainly explains how to configure commands (within layout sets etc), but as far as I understand your question, you want to develop your own screenflows / command. First, I definitely would disadvise a beginner in the EP/KM area to start with such a task...

For more steps, you could start decompiling a command class of a command which is more or less similar to your needs (and the underlying classes) to get further insight.
If you really should get that far and have implemented your own command, you just can switch the implementation class if you want to change the logic for an existing command under System Admin - System Config - KM - CM - UI - Commands - UI Commands - <command in question> Java Class setting.

Choose File OR Folder Dialog?

Is it possible to get an Open/Choose Dialog (via button) that will allow the user to select EITHER a folder or multi-select files?
I've tried using File.openDlg(), File.openDialog(), Folder.selectDlg() and Folder.selectDlg(), but these methods seem only to allow the user to select the type of object that is related to the method (i.e. File.openDlg() only allows opening a File, and Folder.selectDialog() only allows selection of a Folder)
The documentation states that the Folder.selectDialog():
Opens the built-in platform-specific file-browsing dialog, and creates a new File or Folder object
for the selected file or folder. Differs from the object method selectDlg() in that it does not
preselect a folder.
If the user clicks OK, returns a File or Folder object for the selected file or folder. If the user cancels,
returns null.
However using the following code, I get the dialog, but individual files are dimmed:
Choose_btn.onClick = function(){
Folder.selectDialog();

var fileOrFolders = File.openDialog(undefined,undefined,true)
That will let the user select multiple folders or files and return an array of folder or file objects. Your code will have to will have to check each element to see if it's a folder or if it's a file, that it is a valid image file.

New camera profile not "appearing" in ACR, but does in Lightroom

I recently created a camera profile for a Nikon D200, using an X-Rite Colorchecker chart photo and the Chart feature in the DNG Editor. I exported the camera profile. When I go to the Calibration tab in ACR 5.5, the new profile does not appear in the drop down list with the other camera profiles. However, when I go to the Develop module in Lightroom 2.5, the new profile does appear in the drop down list there.
I am running Windows 7. Snooping around my root drive I find that if I look within the Users\User Name\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\CameraRaw\CameraProfiles directory (referenced in the Fraser and Schewe CS4 Camera Raw book as the Vista location for the profiles) I can find no camera profiles and when I place the new profile there it still does not appear in ACR. When I look in ProgramData\Adobe\CameraRaw\CameraProfiles\Camera\Nikon D200 directory I can see the regular set of camera profiles for the camera, as well as the one I created, but as I previously stated, the newly created profile does not appear in the ACR list.
A side note - I did some experimentation with camera profile names. I added "XX" to the end of the Nikon Vivid profile name (not the extension), and then that profile no longer appears in the ACR list of profiles. I removed the extra letters and then the profile reappears in the ACR list of profiles. Seemed odd behavior to me. I also noticed that the profile I created with DNG Editor is noticeably smaller than the others provided by Adobe (28K compared to 110k).
Hope someone has a suggestion for me.

Your reminder about both Photoshop (main) and Bridge needing to be shut down for changes to take effect reminded me that I had Bridge set to "auto-start at log-in". So I checked and it was still running (shown with the other hidden icons). When I "shut it down" from the UI I had thought it was fully terminated. So I completely shut Bridge down, restarted, and the new profile now appears.

File and folder permissions for Adobe Photoshop CS5

I am an IT specialist and I work for a Canadian governement agency and we are having an issue with Photoshop CS5. After successfully installing Photoshop CS5 from the Adobe Creative Suite 5 Design Premium set(using a local machine administrator account), Photoshop crashes immidiatly after launching it(even with the local administrator account). The exact error message is as follows:
The instruction at "0x230dad8dc" referenced memory at "0x00000000". The memory could not be "read".
Click on OK to terminate the program
Click on CANCEL to debug the program
I know this is an environement issue and not an application or hardware issue since I was able to successfully install and run Adobe Photoshop CS5 on a plain vanilla install of Windows SP3 XP on the same model of workstation(HP DC7800). This later also confirms it is not a RAM or video adapter issue either. My experience tells me it would be more related to file/folder permissions on the workstation(although I'm open to other suggestions). Because we are a governement agency, our workstations have machine and user policies and desktop configurations that get applied to the workstations automatically upon joining our domain via GPOs and SMS. Certain system files and folder permissions may be locked down for security reasons therefor I was wondering is someone has a list of files and folders that Adobe CS5 needs access to upon startup in order to properly function?
If anyone would like more details or information please let me know and I'll try to be more specific.

I appreciate that you're trying to surmise what's different, and it's good that you have had success with similar/identical hardware. At least you know it can work.
However, I wouldn't bet just yet that it's a permissions issue. I'd think you should get a specific error if a locked-down file needed to be accessed, not a null pointer crash. The Photoshop installer should be setting up the proper permissions on its own files for it to run.
Is it exactly the same video card as the other computer, on which Photoshop works?
Are you sure the video drivers are up to date with the same version as on the other computer?
At exactly what point during startup does the failure occur (i.e., is the splash screen showing, and what does the status line in the splash screen say it's doing)?

When I double-click the gold star to bookmark a site and click "Choose", none of my current folders appear in the drop-down under Bookmarks Menu.

Running 3.6.12 on Windows XP in my brand-new HP 6000 Pro, and when I double-click the gold star to bookmark a site, 5 of my 80-odd folders appear in the drop-down under Bookmarks Menu. But then, when I click "Choose", no list of current bookmarks appears, so I have to bookmark every time under "Unsorted", then drag each bookmark to its correct folder. What am I doing wrong? I use Firefox on my other 2 systems, and every folder appears on the drop-down, just like it should.

I don't use Xmarks, so I don't know whether that is a factor here...
If you use Ctrl+d on a bookmarked page, does the Edit Bookmark dialog appear?
Firefox doesn't have a convenient way to determine the location of a bookmark. One workaround is to use the extension [https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/show-parent-folder/ Show Parent Folder] to add a column in the Library dialog showing the location of a bookmark. Then when you use the search function or Recently Bookmarked query, you should be able to discover the location.
The extension shows just the folder name by default. If that isn't unique enough, you can change a setting for the extension so it shows the full path down to that folder. To set this, open the Add-ons page, Extensions category, and use the Options button for Show Parent Folder.

Change the default way a new file opens

I'm working on Mac OS 10.7.5 and DW2014.1
One of the most irritating things about up grades is when you discover the nice cosy way you've done things for years gets trampled all over for no apparent benefit- the only solace is that I guess the new way of working MUST please more people than it annoys - otherwise Adobe wouldn't have done it - right?
ANYHOW - when I used to open a new file in DW it opened in split code / design view with the design view on the right. This is not just habit - it's actually how i want to work. The default is now suddenly the opposite and I'm darned if I can change the default. (I can of course change it EVERY time I open a file which is about 12 times an hour). I have tried changing it and then saving the current workspace - doesn't work. I have tried changing it and saving a new workspace. This doesn't work either. Feels like a preference but I can't find one.
Any ideas anyone?

If I'm allowed a supplementary - a couple of other bits of bit of really useful functionality seem to have disappeared -
1. When you clicked on the opening tag of an element a little line used to show up above the properties window showing the CSS stack and highlighting the current tag in a nice bright blue - it's gone. I can select the 'show parent div' icon in the tool bar but it's way clumsier.
2. In the tool bar there used to be a fabulously useful icon that let you backwards select a tag - i.e. to click on the closing tag and it would show you the matching closing tag - this seems to have gone too.
Sorry about the War and Peace questions - any answers hugely appreciated.

For your other questions, I'm a little unsure about what you are describing:
1. Do you mean the Tag selector listing that would appear immediately below the document window?
2. Do you mean the "balance braces" icon on the Code view toolbar?
