New in OWB 10.2

Hi,
Can anyone tell me what is new in OWB 10.2?
Regards
Stefan,

The rumor is that there is a new release of OWB in the first half of 2006.
I wanted to know what is new in this version.
If it has a lot of new things like templates, automatic SCD, ...
We can migrate to this version.
We are currently working with OWB version 10.1.0.3.0
But it can be in respect to any version starting from 9.2.
Best regards,
Stefan.

  • Any news on OWB 10g Release 2

    Nov has come. Does any one has any news on OWB 10g Release 2 availability?

    Hi,
    Just to start with the Experts capabilities, they can be used for designing schema objects.......I tried with an expert for sampling the source files, creating External Tables on top of it....validating and deploying..........itz very interesting to work with.........I am unable to see the practical use of this for end users.....
    where as we all know, the PF can only be for executing the deployed objects.....

  • New to OWB

    I have some questions regarding OWB. Let me explain what I did.
    I created an Oracle database & then installed OWB on the same machine. This is for practice.
    First I created Repository User (rep_user) and Repository Owner(rep_owner)
    Next I logged in as rep_owner and created staging_user (target) schema.
    Then I logged in as rep_user and imported tables metadata of HR schema and created a HR module(source)
    Then I logged in as staging_user and created STAGING_AREA module. Created load_country mapping and finally created STG_COUNTRY staging table. And then validated the mapping.
    Now I have 2 separate locations STAGING_AREA_LOCATION and STAGING_USER_LOCATION.
    Now to deploy and execute the mapping, which location should i register? My mapping is in STAGING_AREA_LOCATION location, and STAGING_USER_LOCATION does not have anything. Also what STAGING_AREA_LOCATION & STAGING_USER_LOCATION mean ? STAGING_AREA is within STAGING_USER schema.
    Also after this how do i deploy and execute the mapping.
    Thanks in advance

    Hi,
    Please refer to the answers
    1. do we have to create one warehouse database before we create a OWB repository? or it is automatically create one warehouse database when we create a OWB repository?
    Answers: Yes, you need to install database first Then you need to install OWB and connect it with the database. Then create OWB repository which will create a user in the database.
    2. is it possible to have 2 oracle database in one computer, one for target database and the other for the source database in OWB environment? if it is possible, do i have to differentiate the port number or listener for each database?
    Answer: Yes, its possible to create two database istances on one machine but you can only run one database instance at a time.
    I hope this will help.

  • How to create a new user in OWB that can only view other user's mappings

    Hello Everyone,
    I am new to OWB and want to know if possible to create different users that can only view other user's mappings without making any changes. Do you know if possible each user can have his own password?
    Thank you for your help!
    Jennifer

    A good starting point would be this blog posting:
    https://blogs.oracle.com/warehousebuilder/entry/build_up_multi-role_development_environment_in_owb
    I seem to recall as well from the OWB Admin class that existing objects in the repository would need to have the security updated if the additional restricted roles are created after tables/mappings/etc. so that they reflect the new security model.
    Also, for individual logins to OWB, each developer would require a separate database login.

  • Getting an error while viewing a data in owb

    Hi,
    I created an External table based on a flat file. But I am not able to view the data in the external table while the flat file has the data.
    I am using this external table as a source in my mapping but no data is getting loaded even after the successful execution of the mapping.I am getting the following error while viewing the data
    ORA-29913: error in executing ODCIEXTTABLEFETCH callout
    ORA-29400: data cartridge error
    KUP-04040: file ATLAS in ATLAS_LOCATION1 not found
    Please help me regarding this. I am new to the owb 11g.

    Thanks for you reply. Still I can't view the data. Actually what i did is imported a .csv file using files then created a external table configured , validated and deployed.In next step created a mapping with this excel this using table operator validated and genrated code. In next step using the control center manager i deployed it. But i can't view the data still in the external table.
    Is this procedure is correct for loading the excel sheet in to databse. My client environment is on windows xp and database is on linux environment.
    Please help me regarding this.I am new to owb.

  • OWB Error while generating Code for a mapping

    I have a simple mapping loading from a source to a flat file. When I try to generate code it gives me the following Error
    VLD-2357: Target Data File name not specified for file <target Flat file name>.
    I am new to OWB so any help on the same will be greatly appreciated. How can I specify target Data File name in the mapping configuration under Flat file operators
    Thanks
    Anish

    If you configure the mapping in the UI from the main design tree and select the name of your file operator under the tree node 'Flat File Operators' on the right hand side panel the properties should be displayed - one of these properties is 'Target Data File Name', enter the name of your target data file name.
    Cheers

  • Error VLD-1108 while validating the mapping in owb 11g

    Hi All,
    I am using owb 11.1.0.7.0. I am new to owb 11g. I am getting the following error while validating the mapping
    error: VLD-1108 . Operator requires more input or output connections in order to generate mapping code.
    I am using a function as operator and mapping it with the table.
    Please tell me the solution for this. Its urgent
    Thanks in advance,
    Siva

    Hi,
    u must be using a procedure or table function that is called in the mapping for execution. When writing the function u would have specified 3 inputs but in the mapping u would have given only 2. check the number of inputs and make sure they match.

    You need to make sure that OWB control center service is running . You can check this by show_service.sql (OWB_HOMW\owb\rtp\sql)
    Then logon to OWB designer --- > goto control center ----> select the mapping you want to run .
    Verify that it is deployed successfully . If yes the click on start , your mapping execution will start .
    See the result .
    Thanks,

  • OWB REPOSITORY BROWSER PROBLEM

    I am new with owb and have a problem with that Warehouse Builder Browser.
    At the first I start the OWB Browser Listener. That's ok.
    Afterwards I start the Repository Browser AND login as repository owner. That's ok.
    Now the problem: after I click any link, I come back again on the login PAGE. With the others links the same happens (such as Object Summary Report)
    What is the problem??
    I use Oracle 10gR1 and Warehouse Builder 10gR2
    Please help me.
    Thank you for answers

    Hello,
    I was also hit by the same and raised a SR. Here is the follow up --
    Symptoms
    ========
    One can log in OWB browser but after any navigation move, Browser returns to login page.
    Cause
    =====
    According to development this is OC4J security bug which is specific to the OC4J version of I.E. on Windows 2000. This should work if with Netscape or with I.E. on Windows platforms after Windows 2000.
    ANSWER
    =======
    - close the oc4j session (ctrl/c);
    - in owb_home/owb/j2ee/config/owbb-web-site.xml
    replace the line
    <web-site port="8999" secure="true" display-name="OWB Browser Wed Site">
    with
    <web-site port="8999" display-name="OWB Browser Wed Site">
    (removed secure = "true")
    - save it;
    - run the oc4j session again, make sure in the oc4j outputs you cannot see
    "....unpacking owbb.war", just "initialized"
    - do not use any command from the owb installations; open Netscape or IE and put
    the URL with http not https, e.g.
    http://127.0.0.1:8999/owbb/RABLogin.uix?mode=design
    This had actually solved my problem.
    Cheers,

  • Importing XML using OWB

    We are developing a new application using Oracle 10g R2. This is a hybrid warehouse/on-line system. Some users will need access to current information (less than 24 hours old) while others will need to access data up to 12 months old.
    The system will receive data from another system via advanced queues (AQ), the data being pushed by the source system in small batches. The data will be in XML format and needs to be loaded into several tables. We also need to do some complex transformations on some of the data (e.g. concatenating child records into a summary text field in the poarent record) and populate a couple of summary type tables.
    I have been asked to look at implementing this using PL/SQL stored procedures.
    I am currently investigating the use of OWB to generate the PL/SQL.
    Is this a viable approach? Are there any good examples of how to do this kind of thing?
    Although I have been developing with PL/SQL for many years, I am new to OWB and AQ and my XML experience is limited.
    Thanks in advance.

    Nevermind - here's the code for anyone interested:
    Normally with URLLoader you'd do this:
    // new instance of URLLoader class
    var myXMLloader:URLLoader = new URLLoader();
    myXMLloader.load( new URLRequest( 'common_upload_files/XML_files/120_display_list.xml' ));  ...wherever the XML file is relative to the project swf
    // add event listener to instance to issue event when finished loading xml
    myXMLloader.addEventListener( Event.COMPLETE, onXMLLoaded_120 );
    ...where onXMLLoaded_120 would deal with parsing the xml data.
    To do the same in AIR:
    var loadXMLfile:File = File.documentsDirectory.resolvePath("PlugTV Media Files/120_display_list.xml");   ...the XML file is in the user's 'Documents' directory (works on Win, Mac, Linux)
    // Pass the file.url property to the URLRequest constructor
    var myXMLloader:URLLoader = new URLLoader(new URLRequest(loadXMLfile.url));
    myXMLloader.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, onXMLLoaded_120)
    ...where onXMLLoaded_120 would deal with parsing the xml data.

  • OWB 11.2  :using mysql in a mapping

    Hello all,
    I am new to OWB (but not to oracle ) and I am currently trying to use a mysql database as source for some staging tables.
    I installed and configured the jdbc drivers in order to be able to connect to the mysql database, so far so good.
    the source mysql database is on a different server that the oracle target
    I used David Allans script to create the different attribute mappings in ombplus and now the meta data of the mysql database is correctly imported.
    however when I try to use the mysql database as source in the target database (oracle) it returns
    VLD-1151: Operator ADDRESS is bound to an object contained in native heterogeneous module SRC_DEV_MYSQL
    A mapping residing in an Oracle module or an execution unit with Oracle Target code template assigned cannot directly access objects residing in native heterogeneous modules. To access those objects, create a mapping in a template mapping module, or assign a loading or integration code template to the execution unit.
    I am sorry but I am a bit overwhelmed by the documentation ... could someone point me in the right direction

    please help me in loading above xml file using owb.

    You can leverage the XML SQL functions to extract from XML using the database, see the blog post below;
    https://blogs.oracle.com/warehousebuilder/entry/leveraging_xdb
    For example to extract information from your XML document the following SQL can be generated from OWB;
    select extractValue(value(s), '/book/author'),
    extractValue(value(s), '/book/year'),
    extractValue(value(s), '/book/price') from
    ( select XMLType('<bookstore>

  • Exception handling in OWB

    Hi Everyone,
    I'm new to OWB and have encountered a road block. I'm trying to get OWB to generate code similar to that of what is below. I've worked with the Error Table, Shadow Table and Data Rules to no avail. The process works great when the target table (t2) has a primary key, the record is simply rejected with an ORA error but I would like to log the record to a auxiliary table. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
    begin
    for i in (select i from t1)
    loop
    begin
    insert into t2 values (...);
    exception
    when dup_val_on_index
    insert into t3 values (...);
    end;
    end loop;
    end;

    Hi,
    Jeane has answered your query. Such vague questions dont have any specific answer. Identify your rules that should raise an exception. On satisfying such conditions, route this record to the error table instead of the target table. your exception is raised and it also has been handled as you have managed to load into a error table upon which you can report.

  • Issue using a distant client to set a project on owb server

    Hi,
    I'm new to OWB, and I'm facing a problem using a client - server installation.
    I've designed a project on a computer (win2k), tested it and so on, following the online course to help me. Once the test phase succesfull, I wanted to deploy the project to the prod server (Linux), based in an other town. I've exported the project, logged to the distant OWB server with the client installed on my machine, imported the project and set the locations to the prod's database. Here's my problem. All my sources are flat files, and when I try to edit the flat file location into the project imported on the distant sevrer, I can only choose a path on the win2k machine (where the client is installed), whereas my flat files will be put on the linux server.
    I think the solution is to use the owb client installed on the linux server, but the vpn's rate doesn't allow me to use an X11 client ..
    Is there a way to avoid the trip to the server's location ?
    (sry for spelling / grammar errors, english isn't my mother language).
    Thanks,
    shz

    Hi
    There is a metadata location and a data location. The data location will be used at runtime for actual data movement. The metadata location is the location which is used during the design phase - flat file sampling, metadata import from db etc.. So for a location that is going to be used for a data location you can just type the expected remote path name. I take it you hit the browse button or something and seen the location directory system, if so just type the path to the remote system.

  • How to run OWB mappings from SQL*Plus

    Hi:
    I used to run OWB mappings using the sample code RUN_MY_OWB_STUFF in a customized PL/SQL procedure. This works for OWB 10g release 1 but not for OWB Paris (10g Release 2) because the execution always returns FAILURE.
    Is there something new in OWB Paris that RUN_MY_OWB_STUFF doesn't work anymore?
